I visit this shop pretty regularly to deal with flats and all the guys here are super nice and quick. I visited recently because I was nervous about how rusty my chain was getting (since I didn't have enough money for a full tuneup this year) I asked one of the guys to take a quick look. Apparently, they oil up chains for free! I feel so much safer riding and love how close this place is to my apartment, read more

Love this bike shop! My husband and I have been seeing the Comrades for a year for tune ups, flats, accessories, and, most recently, a new bike. They do great work with honesty and integrity, and I really appreciate their service. When my trusty hand-me-down mountain bike had to be retired (the frame was corroded) the person who helped advised where I can take the old bike to be recycled for parts and then helped me find a new one. I haven't had a brand new bike since I was a kid and have opted for borrowing spares from family instead, so it was nice to choose a bike that was tailored to my preferences. A hybrid in my price range was suggested and I took it out for a spin. I don't usually make big purchases without researching first, but I really trusted the Comrade's experience and expertise. The size I needed wasn't available in the store but was on its way, so I was given an estimated date for pick up. They called to tell me my bike was ready several days early and I love it! I'm so happy with my new bike and will return for future services. read more

I have experienced several bike shops across the city and settled on Comrade to purchase an All-City bike. Worked with Jesse who was well-informed and patient with my numerous questions. Completely unpretentious and knowledgeable. He gave me a straightforward, honest assessment of my 30 yr old Bianchi. I was expecting a sales job but got none of that. Actually told me it was in good shape and it did not need any service. He gave me plenty of options to consider and had the new bike ready as promised. read more

These guys are killing the game. Truly a bike shop for the people. Often don't even charge for hardware or minor tweaks. Never trying to oversell and always willing to help a brother out. Thanks Fellas!!! read more

I had heard really great things about Comrade Cylces from friends and decided to take my mess of a bike there to get fixed last week. They are follow a co-op model which I think is pretty awesome. When I lived in Miami, my bike sat out on a balcony and was really damaged from the salt. I brought it in for an assessment of the damages, and Bailey was super helpful. He spent about twenty minutes checking everything on my bike and gave me an estimate. I wasn't sure if I should bother fixing it or get a new bike, and he gave me very honest advice. I requested a tune up and had both of my brakes replaced. I'm not sure about pricing because this is the first time I've gotten my bike fixed, but they seem to be pretty reasonable. They were super professional, friendly, and had my bike repaired by the time they said they would. Great work, comrades! read more

I just needed a bike lock so make of my review what you will, but the guy that helped me seriously just exuded kindness and a good soul. And so if my bike ever needs some love, I'll know who to bring it to. read more

Wow! no surprise these guys are highly rated. Since I live nearby I decided to check these guys out. Great shop. Knowledgeable staff, great prices and most importantly they don't try to up-sell you to some sort of ridiculous all encompassing service offering that typically is overkill. I will be back as a regular client again and again read more

These guys rule. They're quick, friendly and competent. I came in to get my bike assessed due to a creaky/squeeky noise. A guy (didn't catch his name) took a look at my bike, made a couple of quick adjustments, and let me know that I didn't have a big problem--all for no charge! I'll be coming here again. read more

These guys are great. Great bijes and service and they tell it to you atraight

I have not had the opportunity to buy anything from these guys, but wanted to thank them for being great members of the Chicagoland bicycling community for tracking down the original owners of stolen bikes that come into their store. read more

I have been here a couple of times. The staff is informative and not jerks, the store is in a convenient location, and they always have the stuff I need for my road bikes. They were even open during the summer holidays. No complaints here. I haven't used their repair services yet. read more

These guys are great! I live in the neighborhood and because their basic tuneup price was cheap ($80), I had to go with them. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, and it was very clear that the employees like their job (always a good sign!). My bike was tuned up and ready two days earlier than they estimated (also, always good). Post tuneup, I am really happy with how much better my bike rides! Thanks, comrades! I'll be sure to use you again and to recommend you to my friends. read more

Ran in quick for air in tires and to fix one brake. The service was quick and the employees were friendly. It's employee owned, too!

Awesome service, really cool guys. Went in for a tire change and they ended up oiling my bike up. Will definitely be back!

Very cool, unique bike shop. Lots of choices, great location. Didn't have what we needed for a tandem, but enjoyed seeing their store. Very friendly staff! read more

I tragically totalled my lovely Torker Interurban and after one day of trying to tough it out on CTA, I knew I needed to find a new ride. I was also checking out options at two other very cool local bike shops but Jesse and Steve at Comrade were top-notch, friendly dudes willing to hear me out on what I needed from my next steed. They told me they could build a bike for me for the following day, but called me later that same day to tell me they got it done sooner. When I decided to go for it, they changed my cogs even though they didn't necessarily approve for very legitimate reasons. They really made me feel good about my new ride despite feeling sensitive over having lost my trusty Torker! Thanks, Comrade! read more

What a wonderful new cycling shop! The quality of the work is fantastic, quick, and reliable. The people there are knowledgeable and very nice to talk with. I can't recommend this place any higher! read more

These guys were super helpful. On my way home from work, my derailleur broke. I checked on here for the nearest bike shop and it directed me to this place. I walked in and they were able to take care of me right away. While my bike was being fixed I started talking to one of the other guys about what they had for sale, and just might go back soon and pick one up! I highly recommend stopping in. They were all super nice. read more

I recently came in to do a custom Soma build for a new commute and couldn't have been more impressed. I had done my homework in advance, but these guys took my vision, applied their expertise and created an even better product than I imagined. Amazing service at every stop. I've been into just about every bike shop on the north side, but I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I definitely recommend these guys. Everything I come in I'm always blown away by their awesome work and their great customer service.

one of the best bike shops in the city, by far. the dudes there are really helpful and can answer almost all your questions right away. the service is really fast! the shop itself is great; you can find almost anything you need that's bike-commuter related, and almost everything they sell is high quality that's made to last through chicago commutes. i love that they love bicycles and it shows in their shop and their work. read more

Just purchased a new bike from here & the staff was amazing. Bailey helped me and he was super knowledgable, did not pressure me, and most importantly did not make me feel stupid for my questions. Needed a good bike for city riding at a decent price & I found it here! Staff took time to show me how to work the bike, adjust brakes and remove tires. Would definitely come back; the customer service is A+! read more

Went in for a front luggage rack and they had several choices, just what I needed, put another job aside and installed it immediately.

I honestly signed up for Yelp! to write a review for Comrade Cycles. I've been in twice this past week, once for air in my tires and again for a new tube. Each time everyone was friendly. I love riding my bike around but know little about the mechanics so it's great to go to a place where you don't feel embarrassed, I used to dread going to bike shops. My bike also needs some less urgent TLC that I'll definitely be going to Comrade for. They clearly care about their customers and providing a great experience. I'm also happy to support a worker-owned shop (Congrats guys). You can even tell how down to earth and solid these dudes are just from their website. Real stoked to have these guys around the corner. read more

What a stellar place! Rarely do you find a locally owned shop that is both inexpensive and free of that attitude from staff that usually says "You're not welcome here". I felt very welcome, and that my needs, however minimal, were a priority. After not biking for most of the winter, I brought my little six speed in for a basic tune-up. The guys were not only friendly, but they were not condesending when I wasn't quite sure what I needed to get my bike back on the road. 70 bucks for a basic tuneup was more than reasonable, and they threw in a coupon for my next service. Love it! read more

I had been going to another bike shop but the service has been severely slipping so after some research decided to give Comrade a shot and am glad I did. I walked in and asked if they had a handlebar stem extender. They had two in stock in two different sizes. The other shop I went to had to special order them. Comrade was also $30 cheaper and the service was beyond efficient - 15 minutes in and out. I also found out that on certain items, they may match prices, which is an even bigger incentive to shop at Comrade. I'll be bringing my other bike in for service. read more

The employees at Comrade Cycles were extremely helpful when I got into a bike accident and needed my front brake replaced last summer. They quickly assessed the problem and provided a few extra tune ups without charging me. Having them around definitely makes me feel more confident to rely on bike transportation in the city! read more

Very knowledgable staff and great service. Great to have a small local bike shop like this in the neighborhood. I will continue to shop here if I need a new bike or repair. They also have inflated the air of our jogging stroller at no cost. Thank you. read more

Great walk-in service at this local shop! Friends had recommended Comrade, and now I know why. My chain and a clip came off, and Comrade did an on the spot repair while I waited, for a really reasonable price. I asked about a tune-up, and was told I didn't need one since everything is internal. Even adjusted my kick stand. I couldn't be happier. Thanks! read more

Suh-weet!!! This great shop opened up just blocks from home, so when my bike needed repair after a pothole mishap I just walked it on over. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The damage and repairs needed were thoroughly explained & the service rates were laid out (less than $20). What a gem of a new addition to the neighborhood! read more

this place is awesome. never going back to any other bike shop. awesome employees...incredibly helpful, honest, and straightforward. had a full tune-up, chain replaced, tubes and tires replaced, brakes and lines replaced...and they explained to me exactly why (and at what cost) things were going to be fixed. i'm not going to pretend...i know nothing about bikes; they picked up on that immediately and managed to explain things to me in a sincere way. you can tell these guys are passionate about what they do (hence why they opened up their own shop...it's worker owned!) anyway, can't endorse this place enough. it's local, priced extremely well, and it's just overall a great place. shout out to bailey for doing a great job on my bike, rides better than when it was new! read more

The short of it... Good people, very fair prices and great turn-around time on repairs. Great, clean shop with super friendly staff. Very knowledgable but not snobby, quick repair turn-around even with a delay because my bike was worse than they thought but I was informed of the delay by phone. AND it was a summer weekend! In the end I paid around $100 for 4 new wheel bearings, a new break and break cable and a new chain WITH labor. Best bike shop in Chicago that I have been to, hands down. read more

Just got my first bike from this store and I am so excited! They don't have a ton of bikes on the floor, just because limited space, but they can order anything. They are so knowledgable about bikes and I did not feel presser to buy something I didn't want. The guy helping me , Jesse, was so great! He asked what I wanted and I told him and he presented me with exactly what I was looking for. I was able to test ride the bike and customize it to meet my every need. The best part is that for a year you can get free tuneups and labor for accessory changes. I could tell the place rocked because there were at least 45 people who came and went within the hour we were there. I am so glad to have an awesome bike that does it exactly what I want it to! Thank you Comrade Cycles and especially Jesse! read more

Friendly service, genuinely helpful, no pretense - you should visit Comrade Cycles. I can't recommend them enough. I moved to the city a few weeks back and needed fixing up with a bike, lights, lock, helmet, everything. The guys were incredibly helpful totally unpretentious. They were genuinely happy to help me pick out a bike and all the gear I'd need. They didn't try to sell me the most expensive equipment - they just listened to what I needed and helped me pick it out. As a novice cyclist, it was great to listen to their general advice without feeling stupid too. Unfortunately the day after buying my bike I got a flat tire but they fitted a new inner tube for no cost, putting it down to 'bad luck.' This was a real bonus and a great touch. I'll be using Comrade for all bike-related needs from now on. read more

Everybody is super friendly, non-pretentious, honest, fast and also coincidentally super good looking. They also explain the simple stuff while they're doing it so I(hopefully you after reading this yelp review) can take better care of my bike and do a lot of the simple stuff at home. A couple of times I've been hard on my luck and they've fixed my bike for free. Even when it's a more in-depth task they have suuuuper reasonable prices and are really up-front about how much everything will cost before it happens. Also, they get everything done right away. They're always well staffed and everybody is super knowledgeable. read more

My first experience at Comrade was great! I brought my bike in which was having an issue with the gears/chain that I couldn't find. Jessie helped me out, was super nice, and totally fixed the issue in about one minute. I'll definitely be making this my go-to shop. read more

When I visit Comrade, my bike always get taken care immediately. Comrade's free check-up is something I highly recommend. I thought I needed just a tune up (which I would have to wait for several days) but the mechanic said that that I needed a new chain and my biked could be fixed on the same day! Instead buying another bike, I was able to get my bike to run good as new. read more

This is, bar far, my favorite bike shop in Chicago. I bought my ride at Comrade a few years ago and have taken it in a few times for minor adjustments since then. Even though I know next to nothing about proper bicycle maintenance, the guys are always friendly and happy to explain things; they shop lacks any inkling of pretension. Beyond that, their prices are fair. Go here, or forever miss out. read more

Went biking yesterday for the 1st this year and realized my tires were flat and the guy here was so backed up but found a way to squeeze me in and get me out in the road so we could enjoy the beautiful day!!! Thanks guys read more

Comrade is fantastic. I called a few places around town and thought this one sounded like a good bet--I was right! The staff is knowledgable, helpful, and super down to earth. They're also very reasonably priced. My husband and I took our bikes in (mine was out of alignment, his had a flat) and they replaced his tire for sixteen bucks and put my wires/tire back in line for free. I will definitely come here the next time I need anything bike-related. :) read more
