I took my computer into Computer Revolutions to fix a problem with the MS Internet Explorer 9. After a few days, they called and requested to replace the existing Internet Explorer with Mozilla Firefox. I gave them a verbal OK for this change out, which they said was the best way to handle the problem. The next day, I picked up the computer and took it home. When I plugged it in, I discovered that they had changed out much more than just the problematic Internet Explorer 9. They had also replaced other supporting programs, including a change out from Norton Security to a security program I had never even heard of before. Big problem ... I had a paid subscription for Norton AND I had ALL of my MANY MANY passwords stored in my Norton Identity Safe. I couldn't get into dozens of password protected sites since I didn't have my passwords. I couldn't retrieve my passwords from many of these sites since I had signed up years ago under old, no longer existing email accounts. OK ... so maybe I should have backed up all this info ... my bad. But I did NOT give Computer Revolutions permission to change out anything BUT the Internet Explorer. If they were going to change out other programs, such as my Norton, they should have gotten permission. I took my computer back to them. They worked on it for several days, but they could not retrieve my Identity Safe info. I am very unsatisfied, especially since I had to PAY them to get my computer back, even though they really did a number on me. I will NOT go back to Computer Revolutions, and if you go to them (or anyone), be sure to emphasize that they are not authorized to make changes to your operating system or programs without your specific permission .... and be sure they understand that you want to give permission for each and every program they intend to change. read more
