I'm disabled, trying to launch a home business, and therefore could not bring my computer in, plus, I had multiple challenges with not only my printer, but many viruses as well. I say this because they have parts, and supplies for many different computers, laptops to desktops, to tablets. If they have a product that can fix the problem without you actually having to 'leave' your computer there, and it will cost you less money, they will tell you on the phone, I'm not sure if my 5 stars are for integrity, passion for their business, or because they just plain old out save me every-time, I cannot figure out 'what is it this time!?" I have gone to, price matched, and compared other services before I became disabled, and The Computer guys, have always been the best service, followup, and price for repair and troubleshooting. As a matter of fact, they don't even know, until now, (I suspect) that I "HAD" to make a house call, because of both my disability, and my devices both needing attention. In closing, if you cannot afford, or do not see a need of a recommended product that was introduced to you for your computer, or home office, and it's on special, they will honor the special price if you need it later, as long as it's still in stock. Several weeks ago, while in the midst of working on a fairly important project, my computer crashed. Needless to say, I was devastated. Not only was I fearful of losing everything stored on my hard drive (which I had failed to back up to an external hard drive), but the thought of trying to recreate my current project from scratch was daunting. I live in OB and try to patronize local businesses when I can, so I was both pleased and excited when I found that OB was home to a full service computer repair and consultation business. I contacted the guys (Don and Barry) at CGS in a panic and explained my dilemma. I dropped off the computer the next day and was told they could complete the diagnostics in seven to eleven business days, which they did. In the mean time, I was offered free use of their in-shop computers while mine was out of commission. Upon completion of the diagnostics, I was informed the hard drive was indeed history, but that they could replace it with a new one and, most importantly, recover my data and transfer it both to the new hard drive and to an external hard drive, as an additional option if I so desired, which I did. They quoted me an extremely fair price and had the computer fixed and back in my hands within the next few days. In fact, they even called me when it was ready late in the afternoon and offered to stay late to allow me time to come down to the shop to pick it up. In addition, they cleaned up the computer and added new and/or updated much of my software at no cost to me. My computer has never worked better. I have more storage space and the computer functions at a much faster pace. It's like I have a brand new computer for a fraction of the price. Plus, all of my former data, including my important project, has been completely recovered! I know next to nothing about the workings of computers and appreciated not only Don and Barrys' competence and expertise, but also their patience in explaining myriad issues to me. The folks at Computer Guy Services are very knowledgeable and down to earth. They have compassion and were always willing to work with me. I didn't know how to get my computers/printer functioning properly, and they helped me debug a laptop, unlock another, transfer/save pictures, install and get my printer to work, save voicemails, and fix one of my very old laptops that I had bought over 10 years ago. They were also willing to work with me by finding older cables I could buy for cheaper or other workarounds during the difficult times. The Apple Store at Fashion Valley were nice and tried to save photos off of my Iphone when it was starting to fail, but weren't able to figure it out. Luckily I knew I could go to CGS for them to save my photos, which they did. They know what they are talking about and are able to explain things in a simple way that even I can understand. They also gave me really good tips on how to save files on multiple sources so that I wouldn't have to freak out if one of the files got corrupted to ensure I still have photos saved that are irreplaceable. Don and Barry mainly worked with me through my problems and I am very thankful for their kindness, generosity, and great computer skills that saved me a lot of headaches. Wow. Computer Guy Services is the perfect example of why I love locally owned, independent businesses. Having been through a couple of costly and frustrating experiences with the likes of Geek Squad before finding Computer Guy Services, I'm a total convert. From now on, these are my go-to computer repair people. To update you on my latest computer conundrum, I had been having one heck of a time getting the Internet to work in my new apartment. Geek Squad, in the condescending way that they speak to all people who are not computer savvy, like myself, told me it was an issue with my firewall settings, it was my internet provider's fault, it was my power cable, it was my laptop in general. You name it, they tried to use it as an excuse to sell me on more repair services and upgrades. Fed up and near broke, I took my friend's advice and went to see Computer Guy Services where they sat with me to diagnose the issue, had it sorted out and fixed in 3 hours. If Geek Squad had been more focused and took the time to actually consider the possibilities and not in a hurry to get on to the next client, then maybe they would have fixed the problem. I love Computer Guy Services! Their price for a diagnostic is reasonable and is applied toward any services you opt to have them do. I found them on yelp and when I called and then visited in person, they were so friendly and easy-going, they completely put me at ease about my tech disaster. I trusted their evaluation of my laptop and whether it was worth saving. They upgraded my hard drive and overhauled my entire system. They also did me a favor and reinstalled almost all of my programs. It did take from Thursday to Tuesday for the repair, but they offer expedited service for an additional charge. Fortunately, when Barry found out I needed a single file in order to meet a deadline, he offered to try to locate that one...and did! Saving me a big headache and $. They also have a great internet "cafe" and let me use their computers and the web for FREE while my computer was being repaired. They sell single serving coffees, have an impressive and eclectic magazine offering and offer a really pleasant environment to do work for an afternoon or several days. I had walked past this shop a few times, and since I like supporting local, family-owned businesses, I decided to take my dead laptop to them instead of that pretentious Geek Squad. Not only did they revive what had become just an expensive door stop, but my laptop came out of there working BETTER than the day I bought it. I went into CGS feeling like I needed to hunt for change in couch cushions to start saving up for a new computer. I left CGS feeling like I was leaving with a completely new machine. And their prices literally can't be beat. The three brothers who run the shop, and seem to be working around the clock, are incredibly friendly, obscenely knowledgeable, and they aren't in the habit of using confusing techy jargon. It just doesn't get better. Cheap. Fast. And better than anyone else in town. In my opinion, CGS is a genuine hidden gem in Ocean Beach. This place is awesome! They did the job right the first time after I had a poor experience somewhere else. My computer was running slowly and acting up - and the first place I took it to said it "just needed a tune-up", but after I got it back, the computer was still not working right. It was still slow, and seemed worse than ever. Then Computer Guy Services was recommended to me by a friend, and they figured out the real problem! They did diagnostics, and it turned out that my hard drive was failing! I knew there was something the other place missed! I had them upgrade me to a bigger 500GB hard drive and completely restore my system. They even saved all my pictures and files off my old hard drive! Awesome service I had a computer a while back that wouldn't even turn on anymore from my deployment to Iraq and had over a thousand photos on it and they recovered everything from that computer. When other places around the area wouldn't even look at trying since my computer was beat up from deployment. I recently just came in and had a ton of viruses on my computer that I needed for school in order to take my exam. I had explained the situation to them and they told me they would do their best to be quick with it and said at the earliest 3 hours maybe longer. They gave me a call two hours later and my computer was all updated and clear of viruses and they also cleaned up unwanted and unused programs from it as well. Refreshing in the age of giant electronic super stores...What a great alternative to the now commercialized Apple store. Extremely fair in prices, quotes, and services. Don disappeared in the back of his store (as Barry conversed about technology) and within minutes was able to find a power supply for an older Mac mini that one of many of the "Genius" staff at the Apple store had no idea what we were talking about. This place is the best! I live in Ocean Beach and they're only a few blocks away. I came in because a friend told me they did a great job on her computer, and my laptop had been acting up. Honestly, I thought it was toast - the thing wouldn't even start up when I pressed the power button! After their diagnostic they told me exactly what was wrong and that all I needed was a new hard drive and it would be good as new. They were right! Hello, All: I'm not a Mac/Apple user, and just wanted to state that as a PC-MSDOS-Windows-laptop user since 1988, and having gone through Microsoft Windows problems, Computer Guy Services handled my pretty powerful Dell laptop, (bought for SolidWorks solid-modeling projects,) OS and virus problems outstandingly, putting more time/effort into resolution than they needed to, and having a great amount of preventative how-to advice and hints afterward as well. Barbara Y I have called CGS twice in the last two years, both times because I had to have the computer reset to connect to my router; very frustrating! I went out of town and tried to connect, thinking I could change my settings to connect, WRONG! Don came by, reset my router, checked for any viruses, did a diagnostic, and took extra minutes to clean up my computer, without charging me over the hourly rate! Computer guy services are fantastic!!!!! All the computer guys took care of everything I needed to fix on TWO computers for a very reasonable price. Also, they give discounts for recycled parts and coupons can be found online for other discounts!! Everyone is super super nice and helpful and I had no problems or worries about what was being done. These guys are amazing. They really know what they are doing and they get the work done fast. I saw a couple bad reviews and it was clear that the reviewers had no clue about computers or the cost of repairs in general. I have had these guys do simple to very complex work for me. They do a perfect job and are dedicated to the details. You might be able to save $30 at Geek Squad, but they will keep your machine for a month just to tell you to buy a new one. They installed Norton Antivirus for free, cleaned my computer and took the time to give quality, relevant advice. The service was professional and courteous.
