I'm not sure what the Compound Art & Sound Gallery is like on a regular night, but I do know it was INCREDIBLE to be there watching the greatest NBA Finals comeback in history, and a Top 2 sports moment of my entire life.
A friend invited me out to their Knicks watch party, and I had no idea what to expect. But I was more than pleasantly surprised. The space is amazing. A clean, industrial space with a giant, awesome outdoor area on the Red Hook waterfront, and one huge room laid out with couches, discreetly integrated bathrooms in the wall, a DJ booth upstairs, and bar in the back.
The screen is actually just one entire wall of the space, and with the legendary DJ Stretch Armstrong upstairs, the vibes were unmatched for the Knicks. (Side note: I love a DJ spinning my favorite songs from the golden era of hip hop every time a commercial comes on...I wish this was how it went in my house.)
As I'm sure you can expect, the mood was a bit muted as the game started very poorly for our hometown squad, but the place was bumping by the fourth quarter. When they finally pulled it out (OG!), it was wild. I've never hugged and high-fived so many strangers. What a night.
Knicks in 5.
Oh, and if you get a chance, you should check Compound out. It was perfect for a Knicks watch party, but I imagine a film screening or a album release party or just a regular night would be great too. read more
