Is there such a thing as a professional contractor these days?…read moreGood: Sean replied and communicated with me about the parking pad I was wanting. The price was about what I expected. Not so good: He didn't ask what kind of vehicle I would be parking there, or if I might want a thicker slab to hold a garage etc in the future. Worse: He brought blankets to keep the concrete from freezing, but used a couple of rebar as weight. This gave up in 4 mph winds. I spent a day in the rain, missing the Superbowl trying to fix it by myself. And since the concrete was wet from rain, I doubt the blankets on top of water kept anything from freezing. Also, the first time he used my water spigot, he left it running. Luckily, I was home and caught it. The second time he used the spigot, he did turn it off, but beat the crap out of the cover and left it hanging loose. I returned in the daylight to see it, otherwise, who knows if my pipes would have burst. So, the slab is there and I REALLY hope that I didn't just flush $6k down the toilet. I have some retirement savings, but not enough to do repeat work. Fingers crossed. Sean seems to think it's nothing to worry about..... or just doesn't care since he's been paid - hard to say. Since his contract covers him from any liability for damages after he leaves.... I guess you take your chances that he'll be more careful on your project.
