Having taken tours with Tianbao/Compass Holidays （天宝旅游）before and having received positive experience I decided to go with them to the Guizhou No Shopping Tour （贵州纯玩团）. After taking this tour, I am traumatized to the point that I will no longer attend any tours containing Overseas Chinese as some members cannot keep their hands to themselves while out of North America. If it were possible for me to give 0 stars, I can assure you that it would be given. On the first day when we arrived at the airport we were picked up by a driver with another group of 8 based out of Vancouver. The driver did not know who to pick up and dropped us off at the hotel while giving us all a sheet of paper left on the front desk by our tour guide with the hotel staff. We had to check in by ourselves. On the second day, we were taken to our optional programs. In the contract, it specifies that each person would have a choice of options to attend up to 4 programs. In reality, we did not get to pick and it was based on a majority vote. As the group from Vancouver had a group of 8, out of 15 people they obviously had an upper hand and won so we were taken to the paper factory. As we were driving to the paper factory, there was a landslide. Given the concerns I had with safety, I voiced them to the tour guide but he did not care and forced us out of the tour bus when we arrived on site. During this trip, we were taken to shopping stops although in the contract it clearly specifies it was a no shopping tour. We stayed at each stop for between 40-50 minutes. Throughout the tour I was repetitively molested (though not sexually) by another member in our tour group. The member would caress my face and attempt to run her hands down my body. As she reached my neck, I would shove her hands off and scream for help. She was with the Vancouver group of 8. It got to the point where another member had to step in to assist me as we were close to calling the police (or dialing 110). We were not able to do so as we were taken to tour areas where there was no phone or internet signal. We had informed the tour guide of what was happening, but he just told us that "Over here, people touch each other all the time". What creeped me out the most about this tour was that a few members and myself became prey and targets to the molester and her friend. I was stalked, harassed, threatened and molested. On the second last day, her friend who was clearly drunk picked up a bottle and attempted to threaten and beat up a few members in our tour including myself all while the tour guide stood there and did nothing. The tour guide himself was uncaring, lazy, always late, and rude. We had requested the company 3 days in advance to provide us with a driver that would take us from the hotel on the day of our flight departure at 5:30 AM. Yet, the tour guide denied our request and also humiliated us in public. Instead, he requested us to pay $70 USD for a pickup service that would not leave until at least 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM, When I told him that I would instead take the taxi he warned me and another member that "We may not be able to catch our flight in time or make it out safely if we did not use their company's service". After the program had ended and our tour guide said he was no longer responsible for us anymore a member and myself decided to call a taxi to take us to the airport. While in our room, we were blocked by a hotel staff from leaving. Luckily, another member in our tour group was available and helped us call the taxi that would take us to the airport. The tour group member and I ended up staying in a hotel next to the airport in order to catch our early morning flight. I am lucky to have made it out safe and very much alive back home. After arriving home safely, a complaint was filed. Their response to this complaint was that it was cultural difference or misunderstanding. I am appalled as threats, harassment, and molestation are a pretty universal language to me. I also have doubts as to whether those two perpetrators from Vancouver were ever contacted in the first place. I will never be using their service ever again if this is their response to safety matters. P.S. I have included pictures of the lady that molested me. I did a 7 day Eastern Canada bus tour with this company. Before I go into great detail, here is a general observation of my week on a bus tour: Most of the tourists were of Asian descent whether directly from the continent, from Ontario or British Columbia. Out of 56 passengers, there were 7 non-asians (including the driver). When travelling to the Maritimes, its important to dress for warm and cool climate This trip is child friendly although I personally would not bring a child younger than 7 years old due to the length of time on the bus. With that being said, there were children on the bus as young as 1 years old with no inconvenience to the other tourists traveling. People on the bus can be very pushy (I.e. coming off the bus). We all come from different walks of life so not everyone is as mannerable or courteous. It is a guided tour but not a very rigid tour. There are some moments where you can do your own thing even if it's for a bit. Wifi on the bus and in hotels are not that great. Although attractions are optional, the tour is surrounded by them so there may be nothing to do/see if you opt out of it. If you opt out of the meal plan, the lunch/dinner time is 1 hour so stay within the area when getting food. Whether you purchase the meal plan or not, most of the food stops are Chinese buffets. To keep the seating plan fair, rotational seating is done daily so everyone sits in the front, middle and back of the bus by the end of the week. Go on this trip with an open mind because bus trips are not for everyone. I was satisfied and pleased with hotel selections For a family of 3 we paid $1599 (not including the attractions and/or meal plan). This is roughly what we would pay if going to Cuba. This is a fast paced tour that does give you the opportunity to visit many interesting places, with some others that are not worth stopping at all. The driver and tour guide were great and respectful. However, the worst part of this trip was the hotel choices. I can not decide what was worse, the location of hotels or the quality. It was a great dissapointment to find out every night that eventhough the day would end in a great city, we would have to drive far away from the city, in the middle of nowhere to stay for the night. Six nights wasted. Some of these hotels were worse than a motel, very poor quality. Out of the six nights, only one hotel was good, the rest were just plain run down places, especially the hotels ouside of Quebec and outside of Montreal. These two cities are beautiful and offer a great variety of places to stay in, but this tour had to pick the worst places and far away from the cities. Also, the price they advertise has so many hidden fees, we ended up paying double price on the first day of tour. I have been to Tai Pan tours before and have been very satisfied with their choices, which is why we decided to visit eastern Canada with such a tour. This was not the first time I went with Tianbao Travel/Compass Holidays. The previous tours I went to with Tianbao/Compass Holidays were excellent. However, for their tour in Guizhou, if there were a way to give it negative stars, I would. My tour in Guizhou did not match with what was specified on the contract. The tour guide had an uncaring attitude, was lazy, and always late. I was harassed and threatened by a member in the tour group but the tour guide did nothing about it. 6 of us from the USA took the 3- day East Canada Tour Oct 10-12, from Take Tours, but handled by Compass Holidays. Our tour guide/driver were Benjamin & Randy. I'll make a separate review on that. On our return trip, our drop off was to be at 477 Dundass W in China town, where we were picked up. BUT a new tour guide came aboard & replaced Ben (he had to get off at the Richmond HIll drop off. His name, we were told, is "Young." Well, on his own, without consideration for the remaining passengers, he decided to tell the driver to drop us off in Spidina, infront of Motel 8 & HSBC. To our protest, since we made arrangement for a van to pick us up @ Dundass, he responded it's only 5-minutes walk - dragging our suitcases, right???. UNACCEPTABLE!!! He added, if he were to drop us off @ Dundass, the driver will go over his time. Is that our problem - seriously??? What kind of customer service is that. "YOUNG" Should NOT BE ALLOWED to be EMPLOYED/work in a SERVICE-ORIENTED Business. I think he IS missing the point of who is putting "butter on his bread!" Appalling service. A cruise was booked and we were trying to arrange an early departure from the cruise due to a change in plans. It took far too many e-mails and calls back and forth with the customer service contact to get a straight answer. The customer service person was rude and snippy, has an attitude, and demonstrates no interest in helping customers. She could not care less that we were upset and stressed about the situation. I've done many bus tours with other companies, but unfortunately this is my last time traveling with Compass Holidays also known as Tian Bao travel. We booked the Toronto tour to Canada. The tour guide and driver were great, but that was it. The entire program was so rushed, we could not really enjoy ourselves. It was a fairly large group and most of the tourists did not have any manners. They were very pushy, impolite, and were constantly late getting back on the bus. Granted, this is not the fault of the tour guide or company, but the schedule is so tight that we were constantly being rushed around. We had a group of 50 passengers and only 1 tour guide! Even she was visibly frustrated. The lateness of the inconsiderate passengers made things worse. Also the bus was very run down. The USB ports did not work and the restroom was "for emergency only" meaning we had to hold our urge until the next restroom stop. I was reluctant to stay hydrated because the restroom breaks were given after 2.5 to 3 hours of driving. I can't imagine how the seniors and children must have been feeling! I even overheard some older folks say they didn't want to drink too much water for fear of not being able to wait until the next restroom break. This is totally unacceptable. Either allow your passengers to use the bus restroom or get a bus without one. The food was mediocre at best. Food choices were mostly Chinese buffet meals so you have to eat fast. Overall, I would not recommend this company. There are many tour companies that will treat their guests better. Please do your research because a seemingly good deal turned out to be a total nightmare. read more

This is not the first time I have booked a trip with Compass Holidays or their parent company, Tian Bao Travel. I travelled on a 7 days Air Inclusive to Beijing from Compass Holidays for $900 (taxes included) and a 7 days Air Inclusive to Shanghai for $300 (taxes included) from Tian Bao Travels. However, my recent experience with Compass Holidays was more than disappointing due to the error they made on their Air Inclusive 10 days to Beijing & Thailand trip. On 06DEC2016, I called Compass Holidays to book 4 tickets for this trip which was being offered at an amazing price of $300...yep...you read right, $300 plus taxes. When I tried to book this trip @ 9:39 am, the agent told me she had to call me back with details and when she called me back at 10:05 am, she told me that the trip was not $300 but "save $300" so the cost would be $300 off the $1326 plus taxes. Naturally, I declined. As the agent was speaking to me, I noticed their website was up-dated from the cost of $300 to "save $300" and when I questioned the agent about the changes, she was very reluctant to admit there was an up-date to the advertised price. Here is the most interesting part....at 1:50pm on the same day, this trip went from $300 to "save" $300 from $1326 to a Special Promo price of $1326 from $1626. If you can follow these numbers, this particular trip went from $300 to $1026 to $1326 in less than a span of five hours! Talk about sky rocketing prices...lol... I contacted their office to inquire if the original offer of $300 for this trip would be honoured since it was their mistake and not mine but of course, the offer was not honoured because of a website "glitch". Glitch or not a glitch? You guys decide and you guys be aware of raising prices. My travelling friends and I thought this trip was too good to be true and sadly, that was what it turned out to be. Keep in mind, I did travel to Shanghai for 7 days Air Inclusive for $300 out the door (yes, you read right - it was one of those Chinese shopping tours) so these amazing deals do exist. What irks me most is the fact that this Agency continued to use the website "glitch" as the problem when it is quite obvious that it was a human error. I was enticed by the amazing deal that was originally set at $300 - my friends and I had our fingers and toes crossed in hopes that it could be a true deal which of course was not. If this Agency was truthful in admitting that it was a human error, I would have just accepted this fact because we are only human and mistakes do happen. But when you try to cover up your mistakes, that's just not acceptable. I'm sure that the website "glitch didn't change the prices on it's own and I'm sure the website "glitch" didn't add an additional $300 to the original price of $1326 to $1626. Those reading this review, just beware and be cautious of the prices from this Agency because it varies from time to time. we just came back from a horrible, awful tour to beijing chengde tianjin, it turned out to be a hostage kidnapping shopping trip where supposed tour guides actually require customers to buy over priced merchandise such as tea leaves, jade, silk, etc at a minimum of 3400 rmb per day roughly 600$ can, threatening to stop hotel accomodations , bus, food service etc if we failed to comply. there were some actual tourism attractions like palaces, gardens, temples but guide failed to offer explanations, just dropped you off for an hour or two at great wall, temple of heaven, forbidden city palace,, etc and then further shopping. furthermore, there was no english, nor chinese, only mandarin spoken. the tour advertised all three languages. i am a chinese canadian who does not read chinese , speaks teochew and cantonese/standard chinese, along with english, not mandarin. others were toisan, hokkien, hokchiu hoiping, other chinese language speakers from usa, canada, australia, none of whom spoke mandarin , nor had any interest in shopping at such forced unreasonable prices. lesson learned , never trust a tourist company which advertises unrealistic prices, always catch involved. read more
