I went yesterday with my wife, I stated in the reservation site that she is allergic to cinnamon. When we arrived the server asked about food allergies and she said again cinnamon. When we asked the staff to recommend us a dish, they gave us a plate with cinnamon and she had a bad reaction, rash in all over her body. The server was not sure about the condiments/ingredients. They gave us a expired medicine (from 2023) so we had to leave. They don't have emergency plan for this type of situation. Very disappointed with the experience. read more

Como Taperia - Tapas Bars Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Nice enough place for drinks and tapas - don't come too hungry. Easy to spend quite a few $$ here. I like their unique menu of tinned items from Spain that come with potato chips! We ordered the squid and it was nice and meaty and potent when it came to its flavour. The cheese with honey was delicious and the dried fish with almond and kiwi stood out! To echo other reviews ambiance-wise the place feels busy and loud. Service was good. Three stars because while quite the unique experience in Vancouver, it's a niche one. Nice to experience once, but not something am rushing back to try again. read more

#700 goes out to one of my favourite spots in Vancity. And the newly crowned 2nd best restaurant in Canada according to Air Canada - wooohooo! I love tapas and cocktails and that is exactly what Como is well known for. I've come here twice now - once with a large group of 10 and the other time with a smalll group of 3. Both times were fabulous and the service was fantastic. I've tried a few different things from their menu and have loved all of them: + Anchovy stuffed olives + Marcona Almonds + Goats Cheese Stuffed Peppers + Croquetas de Bacalao + Iberico Chorizo Fritos + Patatas Bravas + Garlic Shrimp + Charred Octopus, White Bean, Chicharron Since it's tapas style, the dishes are quite small and made to share, which I love. My favourites have to be the anchovy stuffed olives (which, I never thought I would ever say because anchovies and olives are two of my least favourite foods), croquetas de bacalao, the patatas bravas (my #1 fave!), and the charred octopus w/ chicharron. Cocktail wise, I really, really, really love their Mule de la Rosa which is has rose infused vodka, moscatel, grapefruit, lime, and ginger beer. I also love that they have a variety of gin and tonics, my favourite being the naranja. Also, their bathrooms are really cool and the walls are covered in vintage baseball/sports cards. Muchos gracias, Como, for the delicious tapas and yummy cocktails. I'll be back again very soon! read more

Man, this place is still super busy. We came here around 8pm and didn't get a table for 2 until after 9pm - and we had to share a table for 4 with 2 other people. It was frustrating because we noticed another table for 2 available the entire time. We also noticed a group who arrived after us get a table before us. We tried the following dishes: 1. Patatas Bravas ($9) - THREE STARS Good serving of potatoes with a nice crisp on the outside. 2. Pork Belly & White Bean Stew ($16) - FOUR STARS This was our favourite dish of the night. The pork belly was super tender with a crispy skin and the beans had great flavour. 3. Meatballs ($12) - THREE STARS Meatballs were a bit overcooked, otherwise pretty good flavour. I especially liked the pine nuts. 4. Squid in Squid Ink Tin w/ Chips ($24) - TWO STARS Overpriced can of preserved squid served with chips. Overall, the experience was only average. The portions are small and the prices are high - but I guess this is the norm for tapas. The service was hit or miss - it took some time before our server remembered to take our drink orders. read more

One of the few times I've spent more than $40 on a nice dinner and felt it was truly worth it. Went with a few friends and ordered a bunch of things for the table as well as drinks. For the variety you get, the quality of the food, and the atmosphere, it's been a while since I've had such a good time! read more

DO NOT book this restaurant! I booked this restaurant through Google map then realized couldn't make it, called immediately to cancel it. The owner refused to refund me $100 says it's just how it works. He says there is a 24 hours policy but obviously it's not showing on the Google map when I was booking it. It's very disappointing even before the customer step into the restaurant. And even worse is the owner make it sounds like it's customer's fault. read more

Soooo delicious!! Hands down best Spanish tapas place in Vancouver. Went on a Friday night and there was a wait. Small spot and they only take reservations for groups of 6 or more. I ordered a sangria and a selection of tapas. I'd suggest 7-8 items for 2 people but 5-6 if you're ordering meat and rich items like I did. Service was odd, we had a couple of servers help us and one was really friendly and the other not so much. I was seated on a shared table so got to see all these different dishes. I didn't like how close to others I was though, felt crowded and you can hear everyone's conversations. I was told they have a good selection of wine but I stuck to a sangria which did not disappoint. For food I had to try the octopus. It was alright, but compared to the rest of the things I got i could barely taste it. The foie gras was my favourite. MUST GET. there was a pork belly on their daily special which was delicious and extremely rich. The garlic prawns were bland. I honestly think everything on their menu would be good. read more

Really small plate and expensive. The menu lack some description so we don't really what we are ordering. The place is good drinking and eating appy but if you are looking to get full, it will cost you quite a bit. We picked this restaurant because it was on the list of Air Canada best new restaurant. They play loud music in the background so it makes chatting hard as well. The staff are friendly but I really wish that their food comes in bigger size for the price they charge. read more

Fantastic! Oh I love this place. My biggest problem eating out is portion sizes - most restaurants just serve you way too much, so you end up needing to pick one or two things and missing out on most of the menu. Tapas are a great solution to this problem, and Como makes the tastiest Spanish-style tapas I've found in town! Where to start? I love chorizo, and the chorizo here was delicious, juicy and flavourful, just what you want to start off a rich meal. My favourite was the Moorish Lamb Meatballs, though - incredibly delicious and nicely spiced meatballs, probably the best meatballs I've ever had. The octopus was tasty as well, served on a delicious bean spread, and everything was at the very least good - and serving it without carbs on the side means you can really focus on the enjoyment rather than on fullness (you can buy bread on the side, for $3). And all the portions were modest - we're talking about six mouthfuls in total, more or less, so three bites a person in my case. Service is friendly and attentive too! If there's a downside, it's probably the relatively high price if you really dig into the menu, but to be frank I'd much rather pay for variety and quality than for fancy ambiance or views, cuisine prestige, or quantity. This is a wonderful place and I definitely want to come back! read more

Understanding that this place is new and popular, and doesn't take reservations, my wife and I came at 5:30 on a Friday evening. We were seated immediately at their limited bar seating, and the place filled up quickly after that. There are no tables for two with the space made up mostly of tables of four. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and we ordered a bottle of Spanish red wine which was quite good. We sipped our wine while deciding what to order. We chose the patatas bravas, a staple of any taperia, as well as the chicken livers, Galician octopus and steak with peppers. The food came out promptly, starting with the potatoes which were delicious. Perfectly fried and topped with a smoky, zesty sauce, as well as a creamy mayo-like sauce. Very yummy. The rest of the dishes came out quickly after. The steak and peppers was good - the steak had a nice flavour and was perfectly grilled, but a bit tough, probably hanger steak. The peppers were nice, I think shishito, and a nice flavour. The octopus was quite good and very tender, which is difficult, so the kitchen staff know what they're doing. My complaint would be that it tasted overwhelmingly of smoked paprika without much seasoning. A few drops of hot sauce remedied this. My least favourite dish was the chicken liver, which is more of a personal thing. It was large chunks of liver and I've just never been a fan. Wanting something else to nibble on, we ordered the anchovy stuffed olives which were actually the star of the meal. They looked like your typical green manzanilla olives yet more mellow and savoury in flavour thanks to the anchovy imparting their flavour. I could have eaten another dish of these. A setback came as I went back for more patatas bravas and encountered something hard. I pulled what looked like a staple out of my mouth and realized it must have been a bit of steel wool used by the dishwashers. An honest mistake and they were very apologetic, offering us a couple glasses of sherry to make up for it, and would take the potatoes off of the bill. Finally we asked for the bill, and when it came, they had overcharged us for the wine and the potatoes were still on the bill. Not wanting to seem like a needy customer I only pointed out the discrepancy with the wine and they quickly brought us a new bill. Overall, minus the mishap with the potatoes, it was good but pricy, even with the bottle of wine. Still, it was good enough to warrant another visit to try some more of the menu items. read more

I'm gonna say it - in my top three for best food in Vancouver right now! These chefs and owners know exactly what they're doing and they're doing it really damn well. One of the most unique dining experiences with small tapas and stand up space to watch the bartenders do their thing as they serve you delicious bites. My boyfriend and I come here a lot as we now crave their shisito peppers and the Boquerones & Olives! To die for! We always try something new when we're here and the menu is one of the most exciting ones I've seen in a long time! This place is no hidden gem as every night it's packed and bustling with people who know what good food tastes like! Lucky for us, we've always managed to squeeze in a space at the standup bar! I love how the kitchen is fairly open as well so you can watch the chefs work their magic right in front of you! Every dish that comes from the kitchen I point at and then order it myself! Their cocktails are fab too and you can see the menu was made thoughtfully. If you haven't checked this awesome establishment out yet, you gotta get in here to try this authentic Spanish tapas experience! read more

We spent New Year's Eve at Como with another couple on a double date. The atmosphere is similar to a trendy tapas bar in Barcelona. Clean, vibrant, good food with sherry and vermouth on tap. I do wish there are more bar seats or standing spots though it's modified for a more comfortable Vancouver dining experience. My favourite dishes for the night were the steak and peppers, croquettes and definitely the octopus! read more

2.5/5 We had high expectations from reading the reviews. Having been to Spain many times, we were very excited to try a new tapa restaurant in the neighbourhood. It wasn't bad--but not good. We were told the wait would be 40 minutes which is expected for a Friday evening, but we ended waiting over 1.5 hrs for a seat. It looked like there were a lot of couples sitting in four seaters. We found out from other customers waiting in line rather than the host the we could order from the bar before being seated. Tapas are meant to be shared, and definitely aren't supposed to come in big portions but there was so little of everything. We ordered 9 items between the three of us. Food tasted either too salty or bland. The hamburguesa is $12 and basically a slider split in half. We asked for more of the tiny dish of whipped butter (no one told us what it was, but thats what it tasted like) to find out when we received our bill a $3 open food charge. When we inquired what the charge was, our server scoffed and said well its foie gras. We had no problem paying for it but it would have been nice to know ahead of time it would be a $3 charge, and we would have appreciated not being scoffed at. The restaurant itself has a fun vibe but other than that.... little left to be desired. read more

In on a Friday night mostly for drinks. Not super busy, got in around 10pm. Parked right outside, it's metered but free after ten. Got seated after a few min standing at the doors and the tapas chef noticed up. Pros: - tons of variety for liquor and imported canned goodies - servers are friendly and knowledgeable - nice decor and comfortable seating Notes: - ordered the octopus and the chorizo, a bit more oil and salt than preferred. For what we paid for the octopus specifically, we were expecting a little more. Totally get that it's tapas, but the price should reflect food quality, if not quantity. Texture a little hardened and the garnish threw off the taste of the octopus a bit. read more

I've been suffering from post-Espana blues since I came back from Barcelona and San Sebastian few weeks ago, and the struggle is real - my formidable craving for anchovies and patatas bravas and the good Spanish vibes in between. Through the foodie grapevines I heard about this new Taperia that pays great homage to the pintxos culture, and I'm so pleased to have tried a few of the classic dishes here. 1. Shishito: Pan-blistered shishito peppers with sea salt is a dish that I order at almost every meal. These "fried" peppers are sweet and addicted to chew on though the variety we have in Vancouver is (obvy) different than in Spain 2. Ham Croquetas: This dish came in 3 little cute fried balls. I loved the texture juxtaposition of the crunchy shell and creamy + savory filly inside. 3. Patatas Bravas: YAAAaaaaAAAs!!! If you're drinking (which you should be anyways), you'll appreciate this dish (well even if you're not drinking you will). The cubed potatoes are fried to a golden brown exterior and served with a sweet/spicy tomato and mayo-like sauce - perfect to be picked up with the little sticks provided and pop into your mouth. MmmMmmM 4. Garlician Octopus: Sliced octopus (grilled?) on top of sliced potatoes, sprinkled with some sweet paprika + diced parsley and dolloped with aioli. I'm neutral with this dish because the octopus didn't have much flavor, and the combination of all of the above yielded an...okay experience for me 5. Chicken Livers: Okay, it tasted very liver-ish even with the accompaniment of sweet figs so I was not a huge fan 6. Foie Gras + Black Salt: I loved the melt-in-your-mouth texture of foie and its rich flavor, but the black salt was too salty for me while the cracker was too hard chew so I didn't like that combo of both texture and flavor balance 7. Anchovies on toast: This was the show-stopper of the night - I should have ordered 4 of them. The beautiful boquerones en vinagre (marinated white anchovie) served on a slice of warm and toasted baguette (almost) brought tears to my eyes. I was happily taking in everything with my glass of Spritz n Tonic and chatting up with the couple next to me, who were sipping vermouth on tap. In terms of the vibe, while I didn't feel like I walked into a "typical" Spanish tapa bar, I absolutely adored the communal table and the seats by the bar where you can tilt your head and peak into the various salty fish skewered with plump green olives. Though it would be a lovely a sight to see the anchovies and clams etc to be piled high in the tapa fridge/display - just like how it's done in Spain. Buenas noches Coma, I'll see you next time. Cheerio! read more

We enjoyed a fun meal at Como in their first night open to the public. Was busy when we arrived but we got a seat at the bar in the back and were pretty comfortable. Think: tight spaces, but lots to watch in the open kitchen while you much on some good eats and sip on excellent wine and cocktails. I went for their Tinto menu = red wine. Had 2 glasses of Telmo Rodriguez Mencia Gabo do Xil -- excellent, robust wine. $12 each Dining partner tried one each of: Malacca (Tanqueray Malacca, Pink Peppercorn, Grapefruit, Dry Tonic) and the Hugo (Botanist, Espelette Pepper, Cucumber, Cucumber Tonic) gin and tonic cocktails. These are a good size and beautiful. $12 each Food: ordered by preference: ~Bikini --$11 -- delicious. Must try. Like, grilled cheese with pancetta (?) and cut into quarters. ~ Steak and (shishito) peppers -- $17. A great option. ~ Meatballs, Apple, pinenuts -- $12. Pretty good. ~ Patatas Bravas -- $8 -- okay. Dining partner enjoyed them more than me. Note that I'm not a huge potato fan. ~ Croquetas de Jamon -- $9 -- a bit pricey for what this is. $3 per ball essentially. Not quite worth that price. Really glad to see them in the neighbourhood and hope to learn of some happy hour specials so we can visit more regularly! read more

Another new Tapas restaurant in Mount Pleasant. No line up Wednesday at 7 pm. Great place for a date or just to hang out for some cocktails. Cozy and not too bright with a stand up bar. One of my friends was a vegetarian so we limited what we ordered. There isn't too much choice for vegetarians if you are hungry as the selection and plate size is limited. Food was good and light but the flavours didn't leave a "wow" factor to me. Friendly staff. Nice strong martinis. Was told the Sangria was too sweet. I read about Como Taperia in the Air Canada magazine on my way back from Spain a few months ago. We were greeted immediately and the wait time was about 20 mins. Overall, food and service was very good. We ordered: - Seville Sling Cocktail - 5 stars - nice refreshing drink. -Anchovy Stuffed Olives - 4 Stars -Grilled Octopus - 4 Stars - Grilled Octopus was tender and tasty. I like the mash pairing and the crunchy topping. Taste is very similar to the Galician style Octopus we had back in Spain. -Moorish Lamb Meatballs - 4 Stars - we haven't tried this in Spain but this was very good. -Ink Squid Paella - 4 Stars Definitely recommend this restaurant if you crave tapas like Spain. Wow! This place is amazing! Here's a breakdown: Happy hour from 4-5pm Buy a drink and get a tapa for free. It's not any tiny or unwanted tapa! I got a seared tuna on the bread! (See photo) Service: On point. We don't understand most of the menu. The servers were really helpful. Even the guests next to us at the standing bar (during happy hour) were helpful. We were discussing what to try. Lovely feeling in the restaurant. Regular menu: The squid was impressive! Even the bikini sandwiches were so good. We couldn't leave food uneaten had to take them home! They didn't waste boxes for packing either. They used aluminum foil to wrap. A plus for the planet! The drinks were great. The olives were on point. We tried their new foie gras plate and my friend who doesn't like foie gras normally loves it! She can't stand the iron taste of foie gras at even high end French restaurants but she find she can enjoy this plate no problem! Came with some girlfriends to celebrate birthdays and as expected, people waiting out the door! Luckily for us I booked two and a half weeks in advance, especially for a Friday night! It's a tight little spot right on the corner of Main and 7th and parking in the area is challenging, so drive down one block and turn in on 8th. We chose a selection of tapas to share and our favourites are: garlic shrimp, meatballs, olives, steak and peppers, grilled octopus. If you want bread, it's $2 for six slices! They also had a selection of specialty items that are imported from Spain but at $19 and up for canned goods...??!! Well, no thanks, we'll stick to the local fresh prepped items. All the tapas were very good but you'll pay for it, average price is about $14. Drinks are unique but again, pricey! I know quality over quantity but what's wrong with both? It would be great for them to introduce some mains alongside these tapas! Then maybe the tapas wouldn't be quite so pricy. Service is great and our server was very good. Fun place to go before a night of dancing with friends and probably best tapas in town if that's what you're feeling! read more

We were looking for a place to eat and happened to walk by Como. It was quite early so there wasn't a wait to get a seat and we were offered standing or sitting options. We picked sitting so we ended up sitting at the bar. We ordered a couple small plates to share and it was enough to leave feeling satisfied. We ordered the Patatas bravas, Iberico chorizo, Garlic shrimp and mushrooms and sherry. The patatas bravas were very good and nicely fried, the sauce on top complemented it well. The chorizo I found to be a bit salty for my personal taste but my partner enjoyed them! The mushrooms were good, nothing super special. The garlic shrimp was good as well but again some bites I found a bit salty for my taste. Overall I had a good experience there and was able to try some tapas. I would return to try some of the more adventurous options but I would like it if they served the dishes together or maybe 2 at a time. We found ourselves finishing a dish before the next one came out so it got kind of boring just eating one thing at a time. read more

Como lived up to all expectations. We had seen it open and driven past many times but never got the chance to try it until now. It was the perfect opportunity for 4 of us to make a reservation and dine without kids. Our reservation was very early, 5:30pm as they are pretty specific on times and limited to 2 hours which they have nailed down to a science. By 7:20pm, we were already getting our bill and out promptly at 7:30! Did not feel rushed though. I really enjoyed the food. The menu has enough options for everyone to find a few dishes they really want to try and I love eating tapas as you get to try so many more dishes than regular dining. Stand out dishes for us were: The Eggplant with Spiced Honey and Rosemary (favourite!), Goat Cheese Stuffed Peppers, Patatas Bravas (surprised me as I'm not a potato person. Also if you want to fill up, this is prob your dish), and the Meats and Cheeses. For the meat, we had the special and I have no idea what it's called but described as a specialty cured ham that they enjoy in Spain the month of December and a family tradition of slicing a bit every day. At $28, it isn't a huge portion but with the flavour, it's just enough. The restaurant is small and has a great vibe. I like Como, and it's always bustling. A casual atmosphere with cool features like the sports card washrooms, and the split bars with standing and seating spots. Food is great, and service is too. Menu is not extensive but the items available impress. The honey fried eggplant is addictive, the sardines and chips are a great snack, and the tartare with foam is good enough to order twice. Simple yet effective drinks menu. Problems? Too busy for one (can be a long wait), and quite pricey for portion size and items (sardine can with chips is between $19-25). The bill adds up quickly. Still those aren't major problems. Overall I really like this place! It's worthy of the current hype. read more
