We started coming…read morewhen our youngest was an infant, she had some delays due to being cord wrapped in utero, and Karen has been wonderful with her, dealing with the eventual emotional delays and really teaching us how to help her regulate. Karen has given us a lot of support with parent calls, articles and tips for us to help her. We eventually needed to bring our oldest because she was having difficulties with her emotions and being able to regulate. We work with Katie, who has also been wonderful and the key to our child's progress has been regular parent meetings with Katie. I found I had to work just as hard on myself and understanding my reactions. This was fundamental to helping my child progress. Katie has really pushed me in a good way and has also been supportive with podcasts, articles and goals. If you are looking for some place to be passive and hope your child improves, this is not the place for you. If you are willing to get in there and play with your kid and get a deeper understanding of his/her struggles to boost yours and your kids emotional intelligence - this is the place. They are really good about helping you with insurance as much as they can. The physical environment is like no other clinic, it is much more like a home and less like a clinical space.

Three years later, our kids - almost 8 and 4.5-year-old- are so much better off with AZ&A than without. AZ&A has helped us get to know our kids and ourselves as parents as well as it has been one of the most impactful support systems in our family life. The leaders and the counselors are beyond amazing and feel a part of our family. I am forever grateful to the wonderful spirit who introduce me to AZ&A and said, "there is a better way", try AZA - the hidden gem of Lincoln Park for kids and parents. Suncloud not only provided me with that space but pushed me further to want more than just stability but to flourish. A big part of a successful treatment is the "want" you bring in to make a change. If you keep an open mind and have trust in the program, you will grow to find trust in yourself again and find yourself adopting skills like they are second nature. Suncloud also provides a community-like experience that builds in the support and relationships we may be lacking or have lost due to our circumstances. I am so grateful for the people I met and the friends I made in the program. These people allowed me to practice my skills and readapt to life outside of program support. Suncloud pushed me to look deeper and attack the root of my issues. It is not easy, it is not always comfortable, but it is worth it a million times over. *I want to also note that there is room to grow in the program. There were concerns about the functioning of policies regarding race and equity work, safety regarding other patients, and smaller requests on program functioning and such. I am not in the position, as a white patient, to comment on the success of efforts made to prioritize race and equity work. However, I can say that I was pleased to see that the staff had a positive response to patients' feedback and appeared to work to attend to a majority of these concerns. I feel that this valuing of patient input in the program helps to make it possible for us to take the most we can from treatment.

Bathrooms are always locked and require staff to open. There are prison style beds and prison style toilets. Patients are required to eat in the same spot for each meal. There is no access to the outside unless on a patient "walk" accompanied by staff. Everything is closely monitored including conversations with other patients. This is not a facility for individuals with addiction or alcoholism. This is a psychiatric facility for people that have bi-polar, suicidal ideations, etc. Go elsewhere.

He views these kind ladies as his friends and will ask me to text them or send them videos when he jumps extra high one day or is able to hop on one leg. Moreover, they go above and beyond advocating for him- providing me resources, doctors to consult for any concerns that I have. They are a wealth of information! My family members have commented, multiple times, how much more naturally my son moves and his physical progress. They helped me get him to eat vegetables on his own, where before he'd literally have a nervous breakdown at the mere thought of touching a piece of broccoli because of his fear of unpleasant textures. He's finally able to start keeping up with other kids on a playground, and can finally jump on a trampoline after years of being unable to. They're helping him live moments of childhood that should be happy for him and not stressful- and for that, I'm beyond thankful. I can confidently say that at Little Steps I know that my son is not just a number in their list of patients- they truly care about him and will advocate for his absolute best interests.

They want to have one on one sessions with your children without any parental oversight. Why? So they can bully your kid behind closed doors. Nice to your face, another thing behind closed doors.

A couple of phone calls later, I finally received an explanation of cost. From an ethical standpoint, it is very concerning how they charge. In my experience they showed me that they had a "don't ask, don't tell, just send the bill" attitude. If you go here, make sure you get a breakdown, IN WRITING, BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!
