A beautiful park in the heart of downtown - beautiful views, places to splash around for kids, public art, super walkable, outdoor recreation...and a LOT more. Hard to ask what more you could want out of an outdoor green space. We had a great time taking this longer walk through the park. We didn't get to explore quite as many of the trails as we would have liked as we were on a time crunch before dinner, but we had a lovely time relaxing and taking in the views. A must do if you're nearby!

Gorgeous park that's very well maintained even it is very crowded. By it are also a skate park and dog park. I walked over to platte street to enjoy breakfast. It was a nice morning to enjoy the park and neighborhood like that.

Gotta love Colorado and its outdoor space. There's literally a bazillion parks in this state, it's amazing. Common park is an urban park located near union station. It has jogging trails, benches and a riverfront trail. Common park is near confluence park so be sure to check that one out!

This is definitely one of my favorite places in Denver. I'm not talking about "Commons Park West Apartments" this place is actually a park, you know, with grass and junk. There is a big open area for people to play football, or have picnics with their kids, or soak up some rays. There is a huge hill that people like to lounge on with seating on top-- my fiance and I like to call it "The Volcano". But be careful when exploring it at night... I definitely stumbled upon a couple doing it up there one summer evening... Down the stairs, there is a small area called "The Grove" and it has walking paths and benches in a (slightly) shaded area. I have seen foxes and snakes in this area which I thought was cool considering we're in the middle of the city. My favorite part about this whole park is that it runs along the Platte river with walking/biking paths to Confluence Park and Cherry Creek. As everyone knows, places with water are at a premium in Denver, so this is a nice little urban oasis. The B-Cycle station near Zengo comes in handy when you want to cruise around the park for awhile. Just an FYI to doggie parents: There are poop bag stations all around, but sometimes they will go unfilled for months, usually in the winter, so it's best to make sure you have your own. Also, the park/dog police are a little psychotic around this area and patrol it frequently. I saw some poor guy get slapped with $170 ticket for letting his dog in the river without a leash. So let your pooches have fun, but be careful!

Beginning a city here proved to be a poor choice as the waterways were prone to periodic flooding. The City shifted to the northeast and this area was ignored and filled up with heavy industrial users. A huge flood in 1965 destroyed much of that infrastructure and provided an opportunity for redevelopment. The Greenway Foundation was a prime mover in the 1970s to create a park highlighting this area. A major update in the 1990s focused on floodplain management and further enhanced the park as a hub for the regional trail system. Today this is a highlight of Lower Downtown. Shoemaker Plaza begins at the REI building and extends down to the north edge of the South Platte River. The main park area begins at the south edge of the River and covers both sides of Cherry Creek. The trail system runs through this and continues north, south, and east. This is a beautiful space and exists in its own world, apart from the bustle of Lower Downtown. It is well worth a visit.

The park is closed off for safety reasons but we take a picnic and camp out on the lawn at the neighboring Staybridge Suites to watch the action up close. It's a super fun way to kick off your Fourth of July festivities (for whatever reason, Glendale's fireworks always happen a day or two before July 4th). Earlier this week it was announced that the highly anticipated Glendale Riverwalk Project will be put on hold http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/blog/real_deals/2015/04/175-million-development-planned-for-glendale.html?surround=etf&ana=e_article. Instead, a new retail and entertainment district called Glendale 180 will be developed on a 22 acre parcel between Colorado Boulevard and Cherry Street, and Virginia Avenue and Cherry Creek. The city plans to break ground in the Fall of 2015 and officials hope to open for business in 2017. And this will mean that Creekside Park is going away. I'm torn. It's truly a shame to lose a nice, big park. But Glendale and its neighbors will be gaining job opportunities and new fun recreational activities. As it stands now, the design is thoughtfully planned with lots of open space, year-round landscaping, and meandering pathways that will create an inviting community gathering place. No office or residential space will be included in the new development, just shops, restaurants, and a cinema. And lots of parking. And relaxed open container laws! Apparently, Glendale used to be quite the hot spot back in the day so it's planning to get back to its partytime roots. Glendale 180 - see what they did there? The final fireworks display in Creekside Park is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, 2015. I, for one, will be there to help send Creekside Park out with a bang. Yelp Review #400

I forgot about the joy of watching fireworks, it was like I was five years old all over again with a permanent grin plastered on my face. I hope Glendale decides to keep the Annual firework show going even after the new Glendale development goes up. I was impressed and awed by the whole evening. Thank you Vicki P. for showing me some of the best fireworks in Denver. Pro Tips for the optimal Firework experience: *Bring chairs (cup holders are a plus) *Bring a jacket or a blanket (it gets chilly in the evening) *Food + Libation = Fun times *Parking is a hot mess, I recommend parking at least a half mile away and walking so you don't get stuck in traffic when leaving with all the closed/blocked streets surrounding the area

Atmosphere and Scenery The atmosphere at City Park is very…read moreromantic and calm. It is a nice place to walk around with family and friends. Or to just play at the park, and a lot of people go there for running, biking, or playing soccer. One of the best things about this park is that it did not smell bad. I noticed because I know some parks have a stinky smell, but this one did not. Even though we went during the summer, it wasn't super hot and there were not a bunch of bugs for that time of year. Crowd The crowd depends on when you go and if there is an event happening. It was not crowded at all on the day we went because we went during the week. However, I know during certain times of the year they have jazz in the park and it gets super packed. Most of the time, everybody pretty much minds their own business or they are friendly, but if you go for an event, you should plan ahead accordingly. Price: This location is completely free to go to since there is no park entrance fee or anything. Even the jazz in the park events are free and really neat, which makes it a great spot if you are looking for a nice place that is laid-back and free to enjoy. Parking and Transportation: There are plenty of places to park during a normal day, but when we went to jazz in the park during the summer, it did take some time to find a spot. You should make sure to show up early so that you can find parking. If you live a little bit away, you might want to take an Uber, or you can just walk or ride your bike if you live close enough. Overall Experience: My husband and I went right before sundown to do a picnic and painting date that also served as a photo shoot. We had someone set this up for us and we paid for it, so it was very convenient because we just showed up and followed their instructions. It was a great time to go because it wasn't very busy and the lighting was perfect. I think it is a good spot to have a photo shoot or a cute picnic date because it has such a romantic feel to it. We had a really fun time and I highly recommend this place.

Very open, clean, and spacious park. I love the dead and barren trees in November, we don't get that in California and paired with the cold, it feels weirdly nostalgic of something I've never had and warming on the inside (yes, I'm insane). I also passed by a lot of joggers and dog walkers in the mid morning. Very safe. I passed by 2 small lakes with some water fowl nearby, standard mallard ducks and Canadian geese. Very calming. Saw a couple squirrels too. Not a bad medium sized city park.
