We love living near Anderson Park!…read more Right along Clear Creek Trail, this trail is super popular for bikers, runners, and dog walkers alike. Unless it's the heart of winter, you can expect to see a lot of action along the trail. My dogs love it! The park itself has a baseball field, soccer field, playground, pavilion, and community pool with a giant waterslide. Depending on the season, there's always something going on. The park is spacious with plenty of parking towards the back near the pavilion and soccer field. Our favorite annual event they host is the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival. They truly go all out with local vendors, carnival rides, bands, car show, etc. I totally recommend checking it out at least once! I should probably upload more pictures, because I come here pretty frequently with the pups. Anderson Park is a staple for Wheat Ridge residents, especially the ones who live in the surrounding neighborhoods.

I think the Clear Creek Trail is what really makes this park stand out. I am not sure just how long the trail spans, but I have biked from Golden to Westminster so it is quite long and, for the most part, well-maintained and pretty. The trail right by Anderson Park in particular is very peaceful and full of vegetation. The park also holds events every now and then such as the Carnation Festival and concerts.

So there's an awesome petting zoo and train that you can pay to enjoy but the rest of the park is just as incredible. There's a shallow creek that runs the length of the park. It's honestly one of the best places for kids to just free play safely in the summer. Lots of great trees for parents to chill under while the kids enjoy the water. It's a perfect picnic spot for sure. Go make a day of it! There's also a traditional playground near the petting zoo and train station. My kids said the water is cold but on a hot day, it's the perfect activity. There are restrooms as well. There's some covered seating with picnic tables but it's just easier to bring a nice blanket and find a tree to camp under (or bring some outdoor chairs). We did the petting zoo recently too. It's $3 per person for the petting zoo for anyone over the age of 2. Same price for the train. You can do one and not the other. Tickets can be purchased on site or online. They give you one token per ticket for each activity. So you can only go through the petting zoo once and take the train once on a paid ticket. The petting zoo has cows, pigs, a duck, goats, alpacas, chickens, etc. It's fairly small, but a good way to expose city kids to sweet tempered farm animals. My kids loved the train! It does a nice big loop around the park. And the best part is the tunnel you go through at the end. The train is also beautiful - pretty green, shiny train. I would say the only down side is parking. I've ended up parking at the Pirates Cove area both times I've gone. There's simply not enough spots. Go early in the morning if you want to enjoy otherwise you might be completely out of luck.

The fence isn't too easy to see unless you're right on top of it. Anyway, Tanglewood Park has a nice sized field and a baseball diamond next to the play area. The playground is nice. There are two sections to it. The larger one has wood chips in it, and the smaller one has sand. The larger section has a large play structure with numerous slides on it. There are two regular swings and two small swings. The smaller side has a boat, a couple of rockers and a sand tractor thingy. While we were there, a lot of kids took their socks and shoes off to play in the sand. The area looked pretty clean, so this wasn't a cause for freaking out. There were about 5-15 kids playing at any given time, with some coming and going pretty often. There were moms and grandparents there, and they all seemed friendly and approachable. There is a large shelter next to the large playground. There are numerous picnic tables underneath, as well as two or three which are not under the shelter. When we visited, there were a ton of parking spaces in the parking lot, although I can see the lot filling up when there's a baseball or football game going on. In all, this is a nice and well maintained park.

Because of it's location, it's not super kid heavy during the warm months, but there is a little playground. There's a path that makes a loop around the park. There are tennis courts, a gazebo-ish thing, numerous picnic tables, a softball field and one of those old wooden physical fitness courses the government used to put in parks. There's lots of really large, old trees in the park and in the summer, they even put a porta potty up in its only little covered area. I can't wait for the spring because I plan on coming here to eat outside with my doggy. Another thing about this park that i like is the super secret hobo hideaway in the juniper bushes. Although, now it's not going to be much of a secret. A hobo hollowed out a section of juniper bushes and was sleeping there for a while. He's abandoned it, but I can't help but think how cozy that must have been for the tuckered out hobo every time I walk past it. I just can't get enough of this park. It's clean, it's got lots of options and most importantly, it's right across the street from a hospital if you pull a groin muscle while using the physical fitness course.
