We've visited this park a few times and unfortunately this most recent experience was less than ideal. We brought our kids who are young but capable at throwing discs. They are learning the rules of disc golf and getting quite good. We typically skip hole 5 due to the extreme blind throw over the creek and the kids just can't quite throw that hard yet. This particular day was quite busy and we were doing our best to ensure we weren't holding up the people behind us. We skipped hole 5 again and waited behind a couple of people at hole 6. A group came up after us and when it was our turn, they stepped up in front of us as if take their turn. I was confused but tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and said it's ok if you go ahead of us. The man immediately and argumentatively harassed us for having cut the line. My husband stepped in and tried to diffuse the situation, while trying to understand how he came to accuse us of cutting when that was precisely what he'd just done. Apparently he saw us skip hole 5 and didn't understand why and thought we just didn't want to wait. I completely under this point of view but unfortunately he wouldn't let us explain and essentially screamed at us until we decided to walk away. It was a truly unpleasant experience and I feel as though we could have discussed it more civilly but were never given the chance. I haven't ever encountered anyone that passionate about playing every hole, but with kids that's just not possible. I hope we are able to visit again and put this behind us but I suppose I just want others to be aware that there are players who feel strongly about certain aspects of this course. Overall it's a decent course with lots walking which is the part we previously enjoyed. read more

This place is beautiful. The creek runs through the park and it is a great place to walk with family. There are always folks playing disc golf. There is a nice playground for the littles. We enjoy coming here for family walks. read more

This park is amazing! I came here recently to play disc golf with my friend and we had a blast. The weather was wonderful and we had a really good time. The park itself is really well looked after, and the grass is always cut to perfection. There's plenty of parking too, so no need to worry about finding a space. The disc golf course here is really fun, on one of the shots you have to launch your frisbee across the river. It's quite funny because when I launched my disc it whacked a tree and fell right into the river (yes I need more practice). Overall this disc golf course here is fantastic, one of the best I've been to in the Denver area. Come and check this place out. read more

This disc golf course is AWESOME... both for flingers (my husband) and casual observers (myself). I've now walked-- not played-- two of the Metro Area's Disc Golf courses, and there's a huge disparity between them. Here's how Johnny Roberts stacks up against Paco Sanchez: Where Paco Sanchez-- my husband's usual course-- is ghetto (see my review), Johnny Roberts is gorgeous. Where Paco Sanchez is a 3+ hour commitment and a 5 mile walk, Johnny Roberts can be played in under 2 hours and won't leave your tired feet aching. Where Paco Sanchez is a place where dogs get hurt and dead bodies get dumped, Johnny Roberts boasts a safe, paved, well-trafficked and city-maintained space. Where Paco Sanchez makes you empty your bladder behind a friendly bush, Johnny Roberts has Port-o-Potties. Where Paco Sanchez will nearly rip your rotator cuff out of its socket because EVERY throw is a "driver" (yeah, that means long), Johnny Roberts has you weaving between old-growth trees and across babbling brooks to hone your short game and technical skills. Where Paco Sanchez isn't well-suited for wheelchairs and strollers, Johnny Roberts makes things easy with wide, smooth, paved walkways (for most of the course, anyhow) and manicured lawns. Where Paco Sanchez is home to gang-bangers and drug-dealers, Johnny Roberts has little kiddies testing out their training wheels, mamas pushing strollers, Baby Boomers on bikes, teens on skateboards (there's a cool skate park right on the premises too), and other such non-threatening locals. Fun 18-hole disc golf course that you can get through in under an hour. Most holes are 200 feet or less, and pretty much all are straight on throws. Nothing too hard and all par 3. It's a good place for learning to play disc golf and practicing your midrange and putts. The river is in play on a couple holes, I almost overthrew into it a couple times. Not much more to say other than that...if you love disc golf or haven't played yet, go do a quick round here! read more

On the particular day we visited absolutely ridiculous that this was even open with the amount of mud, water, and snow melt. Disappointing at best. Also awkward location with all the paths, inlcuding dogs, passers-by, and babies in strollers, children getting out of school. Made it very difficult to keep concentration. This should definitely have the option of closure during bad weather and snow melt... the grass has just been repeatedly beaten down and destroyed. read more

Though this is a park, with many facets of enjoyment, many (including all reviewers so far) come to this fine campus for disc or frisbee golfing. I have been playing for about 7 years now and have a niche for this game. Johnny Roberts Memorial Park Disc Golf Course is definitely a staple. Though the course is rather short ( in distances from tee pads to holes, not in overall length or number of holes) it offers great enjoyment and skill building for the beginner through professional. The winding creek and numerous trees and other obstacles offer prime challenge to the player. Accuracy, consistency and pure invention are all tested on numerous attempts for the clanging of the disc catching chains. The traffic is often very high as far as disc courses goes, but time spent here can be swift due to the relatively short drives from tees to holes. Enjoy! read more

This is an awesome disc golf course. The only con is that you really have to watch out for pedestrians before you throw, because it is in a public park and there are a lot of people walking their dogs/ running/ biking. There is a creek next to the majority of the holes, so if you're not an expert at the game, bring shoes you can get wet! I have gone fishin' for my disc more times than i would like to admit. Also, I've heard from friends that there is a guy who roams around looking for lost discs to sell to players, so keep a close eye on where your disc falls. Happy playing! read more

I have been playing disc golf on and off for sometime now. I was first introduced to this park by a friend about 10 years ago. Loved it then and even more now. I have played many of the other courses in the Denver metro area and not even one comes close to Johnny Roberts. This course is very challenging with many opportunities to find yourself in the water. Course layout plays along both sides a creek and criss crosses over a couple times depending on pin placement that day. Lots of tree cover as well as open space. Make sure you bring shoes you don't mind getting wet and sunblock for the sunny times. Just wish I lived closer I would play this course a lot more often than once a week. read more

Playground Review Only If you love giant playground slides, this is the place. Lots of older (tween age) kids have hogged the upper levels of the slide every time we've gone, but if you go up, it'll usually clear the clot so that younger kids have a chance to go down the slides, too. There are so many things your kids can do here, it's a great place to blow off some of that energy. read more

The park has recently seen a remodel. The pavilion appears to be the same, but there was an addition to the playground and the whole disc golf course has seen a major facelift. With the new design, I believe the disc golf course is less difficult in my opinion. It is probably more mainstream in look and appeal, but I actually liked the way it was before, and closer to the water, making it a 'water hazard' for players. One had to be more careful with their throws. One of my major hold backs is that the flat field is now gone. A lot of the landscape has been messed with, from what I can see mainly for the new frisbee golf course. It looks very neat with the way the landscape appears, but I would rather have the field (the space) to play catch (be it a regular frisbee, a football, baseball, etc.). It is a neat park, nevertheless. 5-star before the remodel. It is what is lost that makes it what it is now. read more

I think this is probably my favorite frolf course in all of Denver. Solid baskets and concrete tee boxes. The course is laid out very nicely across the park. There a few longish holes and quite a few short ones. There is a creek that snakes through the park so there is potential for some disc fishing. Overall the course is great for all types of players. It can often be very busy here. read more

Just for DG. Amazing that you can fit 18 baskets in such small area. Even though you go over water once or twice it is not the scary type of water. One noticeable difference here is that almost all the baskets are about 100-200 ft with maybe only two that get to 300. read more

If I could give this park 6 stars I would. Beautiful creek, large grass area for throwing the pigskin around, a full fleged frisbee golf course, and 2 half pipes in the skate park area. I had no idea the parks in Denver could be this awesome. read more

Great course, all 18 are par 3 but the trees and terrain make it a fun challenge. Not too busy either. Everyone is wicked nice!

Huge slide! Lots to do (frisbee golf, walking paths, great playground), pretty isolated, very well maintained. We felt very safe.

I like this park. Unfortunately I went on a day that Phenix Disc Sports was sponsoring a frisbee tournament. At least they had volunteers making sure pedestrians on the path didn't get hit but we couldn't sit in the shade on the grass. Almost every inch of the park was being used by frisbee golfers. All the players were very polite. They thanked us for moving and my kids shared high fives with the players. Went June 25th 2011 around 2:00 PM and the playground toys were super hot. We found a place by the creek that was out of the way of golfers so we waded and threw rocks. I'd like to take my 5 year old daughter and twin 3 year old boys back to this park earlier in the day and try a little frisbee golf during the week. It looks like a hard course for adults but were going to relax some of the rules and stand closer to the Disc Pole. read more

this is a great frisbee golf course.. if you have really good aim! i'm still a beginner, so i'm pretty timid around all their water hazards, but it's a great, challenging course for frolfers of any level. it's best to try getting there during the day on weekdays because the after-work and weekend crowd can make the course a little packed, but you still have to look out for the regular park-goers since the course is built into a city park. read more

They have a great disc golf course for beginners or if you want to feel good about yourself. If I can land a basket in two throws, anyone can. The course can be a little challenging (over water), so bring a disc retriever or just avoid the water. The course gets packed around 9:30/10am, so show up early to play. read more

Miss the old layout for JR pre-flood days. Short holes that are good for practicing approach, less throwing across sidewalks which is a benefit of the new layout. read more
