I absolutely loved this track. Best course in Denver for the money you spend. Very walkable and it was in great condition when I played it. Greens were medium in terms of speed but very smooth. Fairways were great and the rough was thick. This is my favorite flat course I have played. Tom Doak is an amazing golf course architect, and this is by far the cheapest course designed by him you'll find. Greens are wild. So many reveals when you get closer or go over a ridge. Number 3 is a great par 5 with a center line bunker that messes with your layup choices, and the punchbowl green is sweet. A couple of people I played with pulled their shots left and had some really tough chips coming in. Number 10 is a short par 4 that I would play differently next time. Very wide open on the left, more that you would think. Better angle into that green where trees guards the right side. I would not hit driver and go left, leaving a flip wedge in. Hole 11, a par 5, is my favorite. Didn't hit it well off the tee and ended up in that big cross bunker. Big mound short right of the green both kicks golf balls towards the middle of the green or propels balls over the right side of the green. Water is all up the left side is the hole. Great design. Absolute brutes from hole 14 to the finish. Fun track I'll try and play every time I'm in town. Very hard to get tee times, even during the week as a single. Driving range is huge and off grass. I think I saw three chipping greens and a big putting green. Plenty of areas to practice. Great course for a push cart. read more

Great golf course, always enjoy the track even though the maintenance has slipped over the past couple of years. My biggest frustration is the "pay in advance" tee times. No one else does this, and there is no reason for it. I always end up having to go to the shop to get a refund for a Jr or Sr in my group. Lots of fair criticism in these other reviews, but I would note the "crappy double wide" that was used as a club house was a temporary thing that was done while they remodeled the main club house. Slow play is also a fair call out, but guys it is a busy muni, of course it's slow. Some new changes for this year that will probably annoy someone are online only reservations, and hitting mats on the range on Mondays. Now on to the good stuff, this course was redone about 15 years ago by Tom Doak it is wide open and approachable for weaker players but also has a more challenging scoring line on every hole. The course is kept in good shape and if you'd like is very walkable. A few things I'd like to see improved as someone who has played here for years: 1.) replace the trees that die, some of the ones we have lost have really changed the character of certain holes. 2.) invest more in F&B, if there is a full tee sheet there should be one cart parked out by 12 at that large intersection and one lapping. read more

As an annual member I'm disappointed. I was promised priority over the public for tee times and that's not the case. First, the extra time for members to book isn't even working and they say it's that way for all members. Second, they have an option for the public to pay an extra $20 to book before the members so all the tee times are taken by the time I can get to them. This is so dishonest towards their members and goes against what I'd call good business ethics. I brought this to their attention and they said "pay the extra $20 for each tee times". This is a hidden fee. I paid the $3500 up front for priority booking and unlimited golf, that's how they advertise it, but it's not the case. I find this greedy and disrespectful to the annual members. Their attitude towards this is on par with dealing with an airline. read more

Honestly a hidden gem golf course. I've had friends say they've had poor customer experience here but I didn't encounter that when I came. Driving range was on grass but was mostly dirt by my 2pm tee time. Food was pricey and meh, and takeout service was incredibly slow. Nice starter and no pace of play issues. It is obvious the CGA makes money off this course. Coffee and gator aide are $5. Really, is this the Broadmoor? Nice course, not Bandon Dunes, reasonably maintained. There is standing water from time to time and spots that need repair and should be marked. This could be better in the times I played. If you want to play a reasonable course, this is a good one. However, club house and bar have no ambiance, so count on going off site for a 19th hole experience. And, the change from number 9 to 10 means you have to trek all the way to the small clubhouse for food/drink. I will bring my own next time. read more

Definitely getting worse under the new management. The course has always been the selling point. Tom Doak! But fairways have many bare patches and greens are spotty. Still a good test of golf but now much more expensive. The new manager has no people skills and was hired to increase revenue so pass holders, Ladies' League, and general public tee times are severely limited because booking events is the new goal. The "clubhouse" is a dump. It's an old double-wide. Cramped check-in area; nothing close to a pro shop; facilities not maintained (see photo); no grill room for after golf...every city public course provides a far better before and after golf experience (Fox Hollow, City Park, Aurora Hills), and don't even think of comparing CG to privately owned public courses (Heritage Eagle Bend, Fossil Trace). This place is great! A really nice and well run course with a friendly staff. The practice facility is top notch. Putting surface is smooth and fast. And there's two... The chipping area is really nice. The only downside side is the ball machine. I'm just not a fan of a small bucket for the price. It would be nice to have limitless balls for a fee. The course is great and I think it's one of the better in the area. Fun to play. Fair and challenging. Fast greens. I really like using the practice area and find it to be the most convenient in the general area. So I keep coming back for more. This was a real surprise for me, even though I heard the review from my Dad for quite some time. CommonGround is a Great Course, In fact, it is another Top-15 Public Course in Colorado, per Golf Magazine. This is where the old Mira Vista course used to be, which was the Lowry Air Force Base course, back before that became a new semi-urban development. They did well with the make over. All I can say is that it's hole after hole of good holes. Admittedly, I played on a perfect Autumn Afternoon and the course was in primo condition. Being out East a bit from Denver, you get the great views looking towards Downtown and then to the Rockies. Makes me twinge a bit to think of the beauty of that day. The course is fair but challenging. There aren't a lot of elevation changes, but yet it doesn't feel flat. If you play from the tips you are going to have some real work. You can also bring it up and keep it playable. It also doesn't force a lot of overly burdensome carries, particularly from the tees up front if someone in your group wants that experience. I can't quite tell you why this course is as good as it is, but it is consistently better than it seems like it should be - despite having no frills. Well worth it. Interesting, especially on a nice day. read more

Was in town and decided to enjoy the nice weather and play a round. After some searching came across this course and headed on over. We didn't have clubs so we had to get some rentals, I was expecting old beat up clubs but to my surprise they were a decent set. The course itself was beautiful and very well kept. Greens are super tough but it's challenging and fun. The roughs are rough rough so if you hit a ball too far to the sides you should probably start reaching for another ball. The only reason this course does not get 5 stars is the pace of play. We were behind a group of 5 and it took almost 4 hours to play 9 holes. read more

Update: I finally got a chance to play the 18 hole course today. I played at the twilight rate of $40 and was able to complete the course before dark. Overall, I enjoyed the challenges this course provides, particularly the deep, strategically-placed bunkers. The greens are huge, undulating, and very challenging. The tee boxes are a bit odd, as they often look like the continuation of the fairway that connect to other holes. There are many tee boxes to choose from which offers a challenge for any handicap. Regarding the driving range, I was somewhat surprised they allow hitting off the grass this late in the season. I would actually say that after spending more time in the practice areas I feel they are sufficiently large enough to accommodate everyone. I will certainly be back next year, especially when I can play for $40. I would be interested in playing the course when it's in summer shape, but I think $60 is a bit high. I would still probably prefer to play cheaper courses such as Murphy Creek, Riverdale Dunes, and Green Valley Ranch (similar price point), but this place isn't too shabby at all. I will add that unlike most nice courses, there are no homes surrounding the area, so there is no need to worry about your hooks and slices breaking windows. Happy golfing! read more

This course is pretty nice. But...I came to play on a Tuesday, course is nearly empty. I think I know why. $52 to WALK on a Tuesday?! Really?!?! When I asked why the price is so high for a weekday, they said some guys name that I have never heard of. Maybe you should charge a little better price, maybe you could fill the course then. Obviously, neither of the two previous posters know anything about golf, golf course design, or spelling......It is not Common Grounds Golf Course....it is CommonGround Golf Course. Tom Doak and his crew did a spectacular redesign of what used to be Mira Vista. They built a true Championship public golf course that is affordable.....especially their twilight rate at $30.00. Anyone that knows anything about golf realizes you can't play a Tom Doak design for under $100.00 a round. The course is always in outstanding condition, and the greens, in my opinion, are the best in the state. Obviously the USGA thinks it is a special golf course since they are planning on using the course during the stroke play portion of the US Amateur with Cherry Hills in 2012. For the $30-$50 they are asking in green fees, I'm sure you'll find this course to be a fantastic bang for the buck. read more

This is a fine golf course. It's usually in good shape and is forgiving but challenging. They are very proud of the course as a round with cart is usually around 85, 30 more than city Park, Kennedy and Welshire, 3 near by courses. It's not an 85 dollar course, but it's got a good location, close to the city. I'd give it 3 stars, but their twilight rates are usually an hour before sunset, making them pretty useless. 2 stars simply because it's so consistently overpriced. read more

If you like 5 hour rounds of golf and an unreasonably rude staff this is the place for you. Scheduled 2 tee times today (Sunday September 9th) and am a repeat customer at the golf course. Was really excited to take some folks from out of town to play. Only had 5 golfers so we were a 3 and a 2 teeing off at 10:30 and 10:40. Pace of play was brutal!!! Every time I saw a Marshall they were hovering over the stationary cart girl in the middle of the course. 2 hours and 50 minutes to finish the front nine. On # 15 we decided to play as a five-some because the wait times on the Tee box were painful. played a whopping four holes as a five-some and were assaulted by the staff when we finished. Keep in mind even as a five-some we waited almost 5 minutes on every tee-box to tee off. The girl in the club house absolutely berated us! (for playing 4 holes as a five-some mind you) She was physically shaking when she spoke to us. Probably not the best person to be greeting and meeting the public. One of the marshals, after we finished, also had some choice words about our five-some specifically highlighting the five hour round. I walked up to the two-some in front of us (the 10:20) and asked how long there round was and they said 5 hours... Hum... Ovoid this golf course like the plague. I hate to say it but this was my 5th round at common grounds and will never play there again. There are considerably better courses, that have hosted USGA tournaments in Denver where myself and my numerous Avid golfers will be spending our discretionary golf dollars in the future. If you are looking for an eye candy golf course CommonGround is probably not for you. But, if you are looking for an extremely well designed, excellent test of golf CommonGround is what your looking for. It is a golfer's golf course. This course, set on a pretty flat piece of land on a former Air Force base, somehow manages to find a few significant elevation changes, and channels classic design elements of the very best golf courses in the world. But for the majestic mountains always in the background, I would have sworn I was on one of the great courses on the east end of Long Island on a couple of holes. The only criticism I could find is that there is a considerable amount of poa annua creep in the greens, which makes for some bumpy greens late in the afternoon. Nevertheless CommonGround is an amazing value for the quality of design. read more

I agree. It is beyond overpriced. Used to be a crappy $20 course called Mira Vista, before they redid the greens, grew more grass and more than doubled the price. I couldn't comprehend how they turned a $20 course into a $50 course so I finally played it despite the price. It's a nice course, don't get me wrong, but $30-35 is a more accurate price for this offering. Not only that, but it's really short, and fairly easy. Even with the harder greens - which are nice - the par 4's are short and not much of a challenge. Hard to justify spending that much money when you can get green fee and cart specials at courses like Murphy Creek and Saddle Rock for $40 total. Can even play The Heritage with a coupon for $40. The price point really sucks, because I live nearby and would play often if the price justified the offering... but it simply doesn't. read more

I am afraid to review this so highly to avoid having more people play here as it is already super busy. For the price this is the best track in Denver, and maybe Colorado. This course is so well designed, you will use every club in your bag. It will also require you to use driver on almost every hole, but will give you a large, fair landing area and it won't penalize you if bomb a drive. No stupid bunkers placed at 300 yards at this course! This is true golfers course, and the cheapest Tom Doak designed course you will find in the nation. CommonGround is definitely one of the top public courses in CO. I would definitely recommend playing a round if you've never been. The point of the course is to appeal to all level players and it definitely does so. The pace of play is standard and the staff are all very friendly. The cart barn staff was also super helpful and took care of me when I left my towel in the cart! read more

The course is nice, and if you are a CGA member the price is fine ($42), same goes for twilight (about $30). They have a program where you can get a free caddie (you just have to tip), and even though the caddie I had was not as good as I would have liked or expected, it was still pretty awesome to have someone else lugging my bag around all afternoon. Is it overpriced? A little - should probably be $5 or so cheaper, but they clearly don't have any trouble filling the tee sheet so why charge less? Does it have goose shit? Yes. It has geese too, especially in winter. Anyway, have to wonder if the first reviewer has ever actually played the course. I play off 5 and hit my driver 300 yards, I don't find it particularly short or easy. It's a fun track. Always in excellent condition, a good mix of holes and a set up that will work every aspect of your game. If you find it too short, move back a tee box. If you find it short from the tips, you should be playing for money. The fairways are generous, but the bunkers are well placed and the rough is thick. If you are really wild there's brutal junk awaiting, but the greens are really the course's primary defense - massive, undulating, but always run true. Pins can be tucked in some very awkward spots. I never played it as Mira Vista, but I saw the construction and I'm told by people who played it regularly there's really only one hole that gives you any sense of what was there before. Have to wonder if that first reviewer played it in it's previous state either. Personally I've never been treated with anything less than friendly professional courtesy. I've never had an issue with pace of play there either (actually played this morning and got around in a 4-some in 4.5 hours on the nose, and we were waiting on almost every shot). Ultimately, I'll mark it down one star for the price, but otherwise it's a good test and one of the more enjoyable tracks in the metro area. Play well and you'll score well, but if you're off your game be prepared for some big numbers. read more

This is a classic course that with the Avid Golfer Fee of $40 with a cart is a decent deal. Our round was about 4 1/2 hours which is a little slow but, not too bad. The big bonus here is the little Par3 that is free for Juniors and easy to get on and play almost anytime. Why pay for Putt Putt when you can have real gold with the kids for free read more

The golf course is great. The staff on the other hand? Some of the staff are awesome. All of the people at the front desk and snack bar rock. The actual managers, though? Nope! The managers at this course sure do their job, but they can be pretty rude about it! Apparently it's okay in these manager's minds to interrupt someone in the middle of a golf shot to ask "why the hell are you parked thirty yards or closer to the green?" I understand if you don't want carts on your green, but you're really going to interrupt me in the middle of a golf shot thirty yards away from the green to make me move my cart to the path? Despite this, the course is pretty good, and it's in a convenient location, so we'll probably be back. read more
