Great coffee and good environment. This spot has grown on me as I've become a regular. They have a menu of specialty lattes named after movie stars. Also, their menu includes most items that a coffee shop typically offers (Americano, cappuccino, iced and hot coffee, etc.). I'll order off menu all the time and they'll make what you want as long as they have the ingredients. The service I've gotten has always been friendly and quick. Also the baristas tend to be very personable, which is great. The space has a variety of types of tables, sofas, bar seating, and other places to sit. Also, the free parking is clutch! A nice place to relax and enjoy a coffee or tea. They also have other drink options available. The service was great! I have only dropped in briefly with others and seen a live band perform here. So it was nice to drop in on a regular day. However, the Sunday morning proved to be a pretty busy day. Most customers ordered to go, while a few others sat and enjoyed their orders. I noticed they have outdoor seating as well. The staff made me a tasty chai inspired tea with the option of oat or almond milk. I decided on oat milk and honey as a sweetener. It was tasty. This could be a nice place to work, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea. I'll be back to try more tea options and possibly get some work done. I've been here several times since my initial review and always received great service. Also tried a bunch of different lattes, and enjoyed most of them. Angela Bassett with oat milk is still my favorite. Today, it was a little weak, but not enough to talk to the barista over. It's a very chill spot to meet up with a couple of friends, or to sit with your laptop and get some work done. Ya know, a pretty typical coffee shop. This spot has become one of my favorite coffee joints in Greensboro. It's a different spot than the Elam location, which is nice. I love having the same company but with different vibes in town. Everyone is so nice and helpful, and the various coffee drinks are so tasty. I'm an iced coffee obsessive, and an iced Robert Downey, Jr. brings the OPPOSITE of Doom. It's a delicious mixture of sweetnesses, not unlike their perfectly blended fruit smoothies. We were walking around downtown and came across this place. My wife always loves to try local coffee shops. We stepped in here and were blown away. They offer all the usual drinks, yet they also offer lattes inspired by Hollywood stars. I got the Leonardo Dicaprio, which was a vanilla and honey infused latte. It was pretty good. But the star of the show was the abundance of great seating options. The inside offered moody comfortable lounge seating. Yet, the outside offered cozy natural seating. This coffeehouse is very unique and quaint with an eclectic variety of artwork. The atmosphere is a little dark and moody, but a few of the sitting areas include an extra lamp. While the shop seems a little small at first glance, it comfortably accommodates groups of four-six people inside and on the patio. They had a steady stream of customers during our visit. The lone barista was friendly and kept the line moving with just a brief wait time. They have a great variety of classic and specialty drinks. We tried a Dirty Chai Latte and the Wes Anderson. Both were delicious. We also tried the Apple Cookie Butter Roll deform Black Magnolia. Upon recommendation, we warmed it up and it was absolutely amazing. This is my first time at the downtown common grounds location and it's just as great if not even better than the first common grounds location! We stopped in after Oktoberfest at South End for a pick me up and I had gotten the Robert Downey Jr at the other location (chocolate, caramel, sea salt) and my husband, who is a coffee snob, absolutely loved this drink, as did I ! The coffee has a rich chocolate/caramel flavor without compromising on the bold coffee flavor. We also commented on how smooth it was. The interior has a dark, dungeony, old Hollywood vibe and I love it! They also sell cocktails and black magnolia pastries which we are a huge fan of. I swear I was like a vampy Little Miss Muffet this past weekend in Greensboro, trying to find a coffee shop that was "just right" and I found that in Common Grounds. Don't get me wrong. The other two that I tried first were perfectly nice, but perhaps a little too bright or a little too minimalist or the coffee was not to my liking because I prefer a darker roasted brew. When I finally reached Common Grounds, I knew I was in the right place, the quintessential coffee house one would find in the cool part of anytown USA in the 1990s. Always kind of dark inside, with comfy furniture perhaps bought second hand. Where they always had soy milk (not even Starbucks had it back then) and always played good music (what was called "alternative" back then, a general term but it meant anything from punk to grunge to goth to new wave to dark folk and riot grrls fabulousness). Where you'd look at flyers on a cork board to see what was up in town, especially if you were new to that town. Nostalgia aside, I love that they have an entire latte menu devoted to random movie stars. My pick: an iced Amy Adams, which contains cinnamon and hazelnut. It was made perfectly and they have a good variety of non dairy milks (oat for me, please). They have a lovely little patio in the back. Oh! And booze, too, for those evenings that you want a coffeehouse rather than bar vibe, but are sort of dying for some wine or a shot in your latte. This is another great coffee spot in downtown! I decided to try it after seeing another place closed for the day. It's a bit dimmed inside, but that's easily fixed by taking a seat near the window. Great service, and their iced lattes are delicious! They have beer and mixed drinks available as well as other food items. My friend and I usually love this place, but sadly we had a bad experience on May 23rd around 3 pm. We ordered our usuals, but they were made completely wrong. I asked the girl working if I could get more matcha flavor in my drink because it tasted like straight milk and strawberry syrup. Instead, she proceeded to dump matcha powder into my drink. As a barista myself, I know what to do in such situations. The girl's attitude was also very rude, like she didn't want to be there or take our order. Then, my friend asked her to remake her coffee, and she started slamming things around, clearly annoyed while remaking the drink. We were very nice throughout the whole interaction, and it was heartbreaking to see this happen at one of our favorite small coffee shops. read more

The ambiance is a very perfect, eclectic coffee house viLocated right at the beginning of what I consider downtown GSO. The atmosphere made me want to sit and enjoy myself but I was on the go, but will be returning soon. The gentlemen present at the counter were great and patient as it was my first time, I'm glad no one was behind me! I had the hot Jennifer Lawrence Latte (pumpkin, white chocolate, chai) and it was perfect, not too sweet with balanced flavors. My sister had an iced Angela Bassett with coconut milk and that was a very unique and delightful drink, she went back the next day to get another one. If your not a coffee drinker, they also have wine and beer on the menu! There is a DJ on Sunday for Sunday Spins that was playing nice coffeehouse-esque music. Went on opening night and again on Saturday. Somehow they've managed to capture the feeling of the original location on the corner, yet downtown! Coffee and offerings are nearly identical with a change of pastry - also local - but from Black Magnolia. Great music, seating, coffee, beer, wine, board games, and a safe space. I'm so excited I finally had an opportunity to check out Common Grounds! I LOVE it! Such a cool and cozy spot. I came in to meet a friend and get some work done on a Monday morning. Plenty of spots to sit and work, or just enjoy your coffee (or beer!). There are tons of options on the menu with cool names and concoctions. The barista was so kind and suggested the Marilyn Monroe to me, I am so glad they did! It was DELICIOUS. Perfect combo of white chocolate and raspberry with tasting artificial. Their prices are also very good. If you check in with your phone number, you receive a discount AND a free bagel till 11! I love that there's a parking lot right next to the holding reserved for CG patrons, unlike many other places downtown. A definite draw. The inside is very inviting, and the patio is also nice. I love the original CG location so I knew I had to try this one out. The food and drink options offered here were pretty similar to those of the original location, and the latte I ordered was delicious. This location is more spacious compared to the original, but quite dark inside. If you're looking for a place to study or read the lack of lighting might make that difficult, but for socializing with a group of friends this is the place to be! Vibe, as it was mid afternoon during the week, was quiet and perfect for working or school (with a few patrons intermittently on calls). Parking was easy in gravel lot behind the coffee shop. Hubby and I had a cute little Sunday morning coffee date at the new location on Elm St in downtown GBoro. The location is super cute and the atmosphere is very nice. It's a swanky sexy place and perfect for a day date, a friends meet up or just a cute place to get a little work done. All of which were happening while we were there. The coffee selection is nice and the prices aren't bad at all. We purchased a delicious cinnamon roll that was made by the Black Magnolia Company. They also offer fruit, bagels, muffins and other premade snacks to munch on with your beverage selection. I appreciated the actor/actress list of pre-concocted lattes. It's was helpful for someone like me that doesn't drink coffee in a regular basis. I had the Robert Downy Jr and it was rather tasty. I plan on getting the Angela Bassett the next time I visit. Overall it was a great visit and I would highly recommend. Came here with my girlfriend about a year ago and got the Bill Murray, we cant remember what she got last time but they were both really good. We thought we'd treat ourselves today and I tried the Bill Murray again, she got a caramel cappuccino. The girl at the register was friendly but the product was some of the worst coffee I've had in a while. Starbucks has better coffee than this. The cappuccino had maybe an inch or so of liquid with the rest of the 12oz cup being foam so thick it was gross. We dumped it out. The Bill Murray tasted watered down. Extremely disappointed in today's experience considering our last was so great. Probably wont be back. The ambiance is nice, love the rich smell of coffee when you enter the door.
