Having visited this place twice for both the Winter and Autumn Tippler 2020, I've realized that this place has some great drinks. The first time I came to this establishment I came with my cousin and we had a great time. My most recent visit was a solo trip and the first time I tried food off of the menu. The food was good as well, however, the highlight was the drinks. The bartenders are skilled at creating delicious drinks. Definitely on my bar hopping list. read more

Love this spot! Where do I start? They throw a great party Thursday-Saturday with great music, great vibes, bottle service, sparklers, confetti... the whole nine yards. What can I say about this wonderful place. I'm from Los Angeles and was in New York for work. I was strolling around Meat Packing district and I wanted to watch some of the games for March Madness. I saw this place walking the streets and I thought the energy was amazing here. The host sat my group down and it was an absolute blast people Watching and also watching the games. Danny took care of me and my firmed s the whole night and was absolutely incredible. We quickly became a friends. I love him to be honest. The staff at common ground is super friendly. The security guards have so much patience as well. There was an absolute drunk idiot acting up outside and the security were straight professional. When the games were done, we ended the night dancing inside end the beautiful night. Wish I could give this place more stars. For now, 5out of 5. I'll be back when I'm in town. read more

I've never had a worse experience with a bar scene. The bouncers tried to negotiate a deal with my friends and brought a new "deal" minutes later to see if we would take the bait. There was clearly an ideal body type for this bar. I heard a bouncer call over the radio, "no fat chicks". Don't even attempt to walk up to this bar if you aren't white, skinny, and rich. I went to common ground last night for one of my friends birthdays and had one of the worst experiences ever at a bar. It was mostly due to the extremely disrespectful bar manager and his staff. There were multiple occasions where they made us feel extremely uncomfortable including grabbing my friends arm aggressively causing her to feel very violated. It is very unfortunate as Common Ground was one of my favorite bars but I do not see myself or any of my friends going back there while that staff is still in place. If you're coming here for brunch or food in general, don't bother. My friend and I were looking for a new place to try outside of our usual LES East Village stomping grounds. I figured the West Village would be a nice change of page. Yelp recommended Common Ground as it's first result and I thought it looked marvelous. Space looks awesome and it seemed as though it was still young, so off we went. We get there and the entire place is empty. That's not totally unexpected or a bad thing. I figured, it's already 4pm so the brunch crowd is out of here and folks are probably at home getting ready for Monday or if they are out, they're likely holiday shopping. The place is as nice as the pictures make it look. The staff is friendly, though I think it's easier to be friendly and accommodating when you're literally the only non-employees in the place. I order a BLT and my friend orders an appetizer and two entrees off the brunch menu. I'm surprised they're still serving brunch at 4pm, but they were and it was the only thing you could order. I had a very nice rum drink and my friend had a bloody mary. Both were good. Fast forward a bit and we realize, it's been a while--a long while and we haven't gotten our food. We were hoping that perhaps in the absence of much to do (the three primary staff members were socializing behind the bar) that they forgot to grab our food. We mention it to the staff and one gentlemen looks at the screen, gives a small muffled gasp, while the another staff member says, "I'll take care of it" then runs to the kitchen. Is it possible they just forgot to put in our food? Honestly don't know, but that's our hunch. After waiting a while to get an update on the food, we decide to cut our losses and leave. We never got an update on the food so we weren't exactly hopeful the food itself would ever come. I really really wanted to like this place so I ask the guy, "What happened just now?" hoping he could at least give me an excuse for what got us to this point. He couldn't. He said they were a busy club and were trying to get folks in for food service and they were still slow. But I don't really care about when they're busy or what their business plan is, what I care about is why we never got food or even an update on the food when we're literally the only folks in there. It's odd, it's bizarre. Our bartender charged us for everything besides the food we didn't get and seemed satisfied to see us leave. One would think if you're trying to improve your business to stretch beyond what it already does, you'd do some things to incentivize people to come, to stay, to come back. One would have been to provide an adequate, or even any reason for the lack of food we received. Another would have been to provide some incentive for a latter visit. Literally anything would have been better than what was the conclusion of our time at Common ground, which was nothing. The reason being because my husband and our friend are black. He said there was only reservations sorry guys after letting in groups of white people in before and after us. After he walked away he said to his bouncer "this is my house I can let whoever I want in and not people like that". I would reconsider if you ever decide that you'd like to take a trip here... if you're white you are probably fine but come on guys do yourself a favor and stand up for shit like this. This is a review of Kendall and the management team. I left my ID and credit card at Common Ground the evening before I had a flight. As I was in a rush to the airport the next day, I asked if I could have an Uber retrieve my ID from the bar. I was told "no" and that it would be "illegal" to release my ID without obtaining my signature on the bar tab receipt. The rationale was that I might dispute the bill. To them, the risk of a $200 chargeback was worth letting me fly without an ID; a thorough TSA pat down I did receive. Since I live in SF, I requested that they mail my ID to the address on the card. Again, they refused. They would only give it to me in person, if and when I returned to New York and signed the bill. Today I retrieved my ID and received an entirely new story from management -- that they were being careful stewards of my ID and it would have been irresponsible to release it into some "random Uber" without confirmation of my identity. If that had been the case, we could have FaceTimed (allowing them to compare my face to the license photo), or I could have shared other identifying information. And it certainly doesn't explain why they wouldn't return my ID by mail to the address on the card. Throughout our communication, they were unempathetic and uncooperative, and took multiple opportunities to blame me for my forgetfulness. If you're a small business owner interested in implementing your own draconian, customer-unfriendly policies, I highly recommend reaching out to the Common Ground management team for guidance. read more

Went in on a Thursday for the Question Party - a quiz that was a hell of a lot of fun. The quizmasters were hilarious and our team loved getting involved with the impromptu limbo dances amongst other things. Foodwise - relatively simple, tasty and good value for money menu. Drinks - hit a sour note. The evening was being sponsored by a green tea alcohol company. After a round of free shots by the company owner, the waiter swiftly came in and sneakily upsold us to their own, much more expensive, green tea shot. (without making us aware these weren't on the discounted price) Realizing the error in the bill the next day - I emailed in to allow Lauren and Kendall to write the wrongdoing - which after a back and forth of emails - they were uninterested in doing. I ordered an old fashioned on their menu which is 14 dollars. When I got the bill the old fashioned was 23 dollars. I asked why and the bartender said that they were out of the standard alcohol and gave me premium. No one ever told me this and I only knew after I drank it and got the bill. If I was notified of the lack of alcohol, I would have easily changed my drink order. I would also have a much easier time accepting the 23 dollars if I was just notified ahead of time! This is such bad practice for any bartender. She did not notify me that they were out of the standard alcohol and proceeded to give me a drink that was almost a 65% increase in price. Went there for my job's Christmas party. Had loads of fun. Really cool interior set up with a lot of space. There was about 80-100 of us at any given point. It was very dark in there with most of the lighting coming from the central bar but no one minded since that was the right kind of ambiance for the event ;) It was a private event so we had an open bar and the drinks were still strong.
