I had lunch here last Saturday while in town. It was cold and rainy and this place was packed. Commerce Country is on the end cap of a strip center very close to the interstate with plenty of parking spaces available. It's only open for breakfast and lunch and after eating here I understand why it's so popular. If fact while waiting in the short line at the counter a couple of ladies next to me asked if this was my first visit here and after I said yes they told me that I was going to enjoy it. They weren't kidding. I went through the line at the counter selecting my meat and veggies served from a steam table. This is a meat and two restaurant and from the selection on the menu, I chose roast beef with mashed potatoes and black eye peas. I asked for gravy on the spuds and they put some white gravy on them. The food on my plate was delicious. The roast beef even had some sliced carrots added in and was tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes with cream gravy was obviously homemade and made me happy. Finally the black eye peas were very good too. This meal was of a "home cooking" level of quality and made me wish I had added a dessert because I knew it would have been excellent too. This meal was easily a 4 star experience but what pushed it over the top to a 5 for me was the price. My meat and two was $8.49! No wonder this place is so popular. In 2023, how can they serve food this good at that price point? Incredible!

asked about any breakfast specials and decided to go with eggs, bacon and grits with a biscuit plus coffee (which I love they included to coffee with breakfast! Happy be didn't get charged another 3 bucks for it). But that was just about $10 per person. Friendly staff, they were coming around often to refill coffee etc. food was plentiful and really good. If you're in a hurry and need a quick bite to eat, this is your place. If you want to get a few breakfast sandwiches to go, this is your place. Lots of seating and friendly environment. There is also plenty of parking.

Meat and two sides for under $10? And it was absolutely delicious. The fried chicken was piping hot and perfectly cooked, the cabbage was delicious and buttery, and the greens were excellent. The place was crowded and we could see why!

Line out the door but moved fast and worth it. Much better lunch than all the same old fast food nearby.

Good ol ham steak, smothered cabbage, black eyed peas and a sweet tea!

Commerce by 85 is over run with fast food joints. Commerce cafe is a blessing for those who seek real food !! Staff are super friendly and my late lunch was the best!! Going back for breakfast before we hit the road and continue our travels.

It was good. I cleaned my plate.

We were driving down 441 last week and remembered the sign at 59 pointing toward Smitty's. We said,…read morewe should go. in my email box this week is my weekly Yelp suggestions and what is at the top? Smitty's! It is a "plate of shrimp" moment of off we go. Smitty's is about a mile up 51 from the biggest truck stop interchange on 85. The building complex is a very cool set of older buildings that look like a barbecue restaurant. There is a giant stack of wood outside so this looks promising. When you go in, seats yourself and someone will be there to serve you right away. The menu is typical barbecue fare with a couple other items too. I ordered the brisket plate, Megan had a chicken fried steak. The brisket was tender and smokey with a little salt and pepper in the seasoning. It was good and meaty. The fries were good as was the okra. The stew was flavorful with tomato and corn. Megan's chicken fried steak was very good. It was beefy and tender and cooked just right. Her potato came with big cups of butter, cheese, and sour cream. And she ate her whole salad. This was a special road trip for use because of the Yelp suggestion. But if we are back in the area again we will defiantly hit them up again.

Just a post (3/12/26) if you are looking for pulled pork or anything like that, call ahead. They only had hamburgers, fried fish type bbq joint food. They were out of anything smoked for a bit of time.

We have driven past this place many times but usually we wait until Athens for lunch. Today we…read morenoticed that they were open so we gave it a try. I was curious because Yelp reviews are a mixed bag and I think that is right. We went in and found that all the cops in the area were eating lunch, like more than six tables worth. They looked like they were enjoying lunch so that's awesome. The place is a big open room, as dining rooms are, and seemed noisy. It really quieted down when the table of three next to us left. I guess they were really loud. We ordered some fried pickles to start. They were fine with the ranch, just seemed like standard frozen. I had the brisket plate which comes with three sides. I chose fries, beans, and stew. First thing I noticed was it came with two slices of white bread which is old school legit. The brisket was a good sized portion which was tender and tasty. It had au jus on it which is unusual for BBQ but it was good. Fries were standard with a light batter and delivered crispy. The beans seemed plain out of a can with some onions and were bland. I know that there are a billion kinds of stew and stew is a religion but this one is not for me. I did not like the spice blend, but you know at least it had spices and was not bland. Just not for me. Megan had the pork sandwich. The pork was good. the also had roasted potatoes which were the kind in the can (which I love) roasted in some spices. Megan did not care for the beans. The summary here is we liked the meats, the sides not so much. I would like to try this place on a Sunday when they have fried chicken.

So this is an overall review, and more so for people who have never had Bojangles. If you've had…read moreBojangles before, and if you're eating here and reading this review, you're a victim of your own circumstance. This is my very first time ever eating at this place, and unless there is absolutely no other food options available wherever I am, and I am on the very Verge of utter starvation, it could quite possibly be the last. First off, I did a mobile order, and by the time I walked across the street, the nice girl was already boxing and bagging it. I only interacted with that one employee, but she was super nice. The restaurant was really clean, but I only spent about 2 minutes in it. As far as fast food chicken goes, in my opinion, Popeyes is the Pinnacle of fried chicken. And their sides are superior to that of other places. I sort of think that this place is trying to emulate popeyes, by their choice of sides, (similar to how that DUMP and joke of a burger place called five guys, which I have no idea how they're still in business because their food straight out sucks and it's overpriced) tries to emulate in and out. (but on side note, both places lack flavor and seasoning). I ordered a three piece, 2 thigh and one drumstick meal, with dirty rice and coleslaw as my sides. The dirty rice, especially compared to popeyes, just sucks straight ass. Super bland and unflavorful. The coleslaw, is typical slaw you get at a fast food joint. Reasonably priced at around $11, because if you paid any more, and you were like me, you would be very disappointed. The chicken, was cooked well, but just lacks flavor. I even used some Louisiana hot sauce on it per the norm, and I had a few packets of Cajun sparkle from Popeyes with me, that I put on the rice, along with my hot sauce, and it was mediocre at best. I can't blame the employees for the food quality and taste, because that's a corporate thing, but I will say hands down Popeyes destroys this place. And even KFC in my opinion is a lot better than this place. No complaints about service, just not my thing. At least I can say I tried it, and they tried, but it's just mind blowing how all these franchises are able to thrive with a lackluster product, especially in a very competitive market surrounded by multiple restaurants in the immediate area. Hopefully their loyal customer base never tries a different fried chicken joint. If the service and employees weren't so good, this would be more of a 1 1/2 star review. The food just really isn't all that great.
