Comic Store West - Comics and magazines back stock

Comic Store West

In the York, PA area visiting family and noticed this comic shop that was open on a Monday. Decided…read moreto stop by and check it out. Wow! This is one of the nicest comic/action figure/misc stores I have ever seen. Layouts were clear and grouped by interest. Displays were carefully designed with the collector in mind. The amount of stock is great, especially back issues. I saw something I've never seen before - ECs from the 50s!! One area that I am still collecting. Most stores only carry the later reprints. Nice, but none that I need at the time. There are separate displays for comics, magazines, action figures, sals items, suggested reading, and a nice area just for kids with a great selection. The manager was helpful, and very knowledgeable, and we had great conversations. There are multiple areas marked for sales prices, including several boxes of low priced comics and magazines. And especially of note: I read recently of the difficulty of finding new packs of Pokemon cards. Some dealers were charging $9 to $13 for the new packs, due to shortages. Comic Store West has them for $6, with a limited amount you can buy. That alone tells me a lot about caring and watching out for the consumer. If you are in the York area looking for comics, this should definitely be your first stop! Highly recommended.

After trying nearly a dozen comic/game shops in the York-Lancaster-Harrisburg area, I can tell you…read morethat Comic Store West is my favorite. It has a bit of everything and the staff is always pleasant. Prices are reasonable compared to other local shops and they gladly order an extra copy of something just for you if you let them know in advance.

Stellar Collectibles

Stellar Collectibles

Stellar Collectibles is one of the worst collectibles shops I have ever visited. It's not hard to…read morefind being off of U.S. 30 with a digital sign out front, but you have to enter directly from the highway and not from Emigs Mill Rd as that entrance is blocked. There is some parking in front of the shop, and it has extremely limited hours, being open only two days a week. When you walk in, as my friends and I did, this place looks like it has promise as there's a little bit of everything, everywhere. There were some rare collectables that caught our attention. Where everything goes downhill is somewhere between 65-75 percent of the shop is not actually for sale. Only items clearly marked and in the counters are for sale. If it's in a box on the actual floor, it's not for sale. If it's on the counter...it's not for sale. If it's over on this side of the shop...not for sale. If it's in a comics longbox that has a clearly marked price of $1, sitting on the counter...that's 100% not for sale, because they bought it for shop to sell but didn't take the price out of the box. For a shop like this work, of which I've been to several, you need either a clerk who is prepared to give a price on the spot or have all items priced as marked. The items just can't be lying around. Almost every word out of the clerk's mouth during our visit was "That's not for sale." To be blunt, I feel the young man who was the clerk didn't want to be there that day. He had an attitude wrong for this type of work and needs to be retrained or replaced. After the comic longbox situation above, I had to with a mildly frustrated tone in my voice ask "What's actually for sale?" We left shortly after because this place was a waste of our time. How does Stellar Collectibles fix their shop? 1. Close for a month and totally reorganize the shop. 2. Take all unpriced items off the sales floor and either put them in the backroom or in a sectioned off part of the shop. Get pipe and drape if necessary. This will also help anyone with mobility issues because currently, the shop is probably not handicap accessible. 3. Retrain or replace the clerk with someone who wants to be there. Stellar Collectibles is one of the worst collectibles shops I've ever visited and one of my most frustrating experiences in a long time. What a disappointment.
