Part 3 - This is now my third review of Comfort Services, with zero follow up and commitment to make it right, besides a note from the operations manager 'firing' me as the customer, then claiming I was attempting to extort the service industry by being transparent about communicating I would be giving them a poor review. A reminder of the experience. Arrived, connected to my A/C system, identified it had a leak that would require a $1,400 leak test and Freon replacement ( that I later completed for $400) . I refused the service because of their outlandish pricing. Oh, and they also left my system inoperable as they left . This felt like a scam. I called them out to service my family's A/C unit for one more summer then get a new one. I called them because the tech that came out for the furance was great but not this time, the tech Jospeh Dewitt came out to tune it up, clean it and everything and he failed to do that and went straight to the throat selling a ac unit replacement when the one my family has still works. When I called to figure out why he didn't do the services I requested the boss in charge (Eric) defended his techs actions trying to only sell and on top of that Jospeh told my folks they don't carry the refrigerant for it anymore which is false trying to sell. That was beyond shady from the tech and for Eric defending his actions. I would shop around finding better companies this cause that is not how you handle a service call ever. read more

I had Comfort Services come out to service my 19 year old furnace. The technician Kevin arrived on time, was polite and cleaned and checked the furnace. As other online reviewers commented, I was told the capacitor had degraded (7uF vs. 10uF), and they could replace it for $250 (I found the part on ebay for $20; almost trivial to install). While I think the price was absurdly high, I know they can go bad. At some point I lost the cap to my furnace chimney, and rain corroded the furnace and hot water heater flue pipes in the basement. The technician kindly put duct tape across a 2 foot long gash in the flue pipe (as a temporary fix). He also noted that while the gash was not good, carbon monoxide came from improper combustion, and the furnace was combusting properly. I thought the technician knew his stuff, and would use him again. I asked for a cost to replace the vent/flue piping and was told the Service Manager Dan would come the next day to look. He didn't arrive, I called, and he said it would be $657 (seemed high to me). The old furnace was put in by the previous owner as a condition of a sale that fell through. It always seemed underpowered, and I've wanted to replace it for a few years. So I asked to have a "Comfort Advisor" come talk about new furnaces. Armando came, was very pleasant and answered my questions. I picked a 96% efficient two stage Amana furnace, in part because the high efficiency furnaces use PVC pipes for venting and pulling in fresh air (no chimney). I got a second quote that was a higher price for similar Goodman brand furnace (he said Amana would be $1000 more). So I felt like I was getting a good price from Comfort Services. They threw in re-piping the hot water heater flue pipe to the metal chimney and a UV light for the cold air return. Two people showed up to put in the new Amana furnace. I asked how they would get the two 3" PVC pipes run from the furnace to the outside, as it was going to be a tight fit. Armando thought they would fit. The guys doing the installation thought it would be close but they would fit. Dan the service manager showed up he said he thought they could fit the two 3" pipes. So I go upstairs and leave them to their work. I come downstairs a few hours later and see that they put in one 3" pipe and one 2" pipe. I asked why, and they said, well a second 3" pipe would not fit, and a 2" is fine. I asked why they didn't tell me this was changing since I had talked to them twice about it. No good answer. I asked, are you sure the furnace specifications allow the intake pipe to be 2"? They said, sure, the input on the furnace was 2" so it must be fine. As I pressed them, Dan told me he was not going to put in a 3" pipe and he would just cut off the pipe at the furnace since it could be "direct vented". I was concerned so I found a manual online. I read it to say you could not use a 2" pipe. So I called up the next day and talked to Dan, who said he would check with the manufacturer. Later he said he called them and they said it was fine. I was skeptical, so I asked for the phone number of manufacturer. I called and spoke to "Mike" and asked about using a 2" pipe on my unit. Mike was clear that this was in black and white in the manual and this was not supported. I asked what about just cutting off the pipe and using "direct vent". Mike asked if this was an attic, I said no, an enclosed basement. He said the furnace would consume all the oxygen in the house. [Pilot light furnaces turn off if the oxygen runs low. No pilot light on the new ones, so they have to pull in fresh air from outside]. So I call the company back. I eventually talked to owner who said I was right, they had to put in a 3" pipe, and just cutting it off (as his service manager had suggested) would be not work. So then the same installer and Dan came to replace the pipe. So the guy who apparently lied about his discussion with the manufacturer, and who was so incompetent about the product he was installing he wanted to cut off the pipe and let the furnace use up all the oxygen on my house and kill me, was back in my house. Another day off work, and I finally I had two 3" pipes as per manufacturer specifications (and they fit just fine). It should not be this hard. During the first installation, I asked how my existing whole house humidifier would be connected. They said they would only touch a humidifier if they installed it new themselves. I assumed it would work like it did before. But some days later I noticed something odd - the humidifier would run even if the furnace was NOT running. It didn't behave like that before. After many hours of research, I figured out a solution using an Ecobee3/4 thermostat which has the ability to control a humidifier that has no connection to the furnace. I should note that I did not contact Comfort Services again to sort this out; I assumed they would send (dangerous) Dan out again. read more

We hired Comfort Services to clean our air ducts. After they left, we noticed some of the vents were still dusty. My husband took off the vent cover and was shocked. Only the first foot of the duct was clean! The remainder was untouched! We called and they offered to come back to clean them again but we did not want them in our home. They refunded our money and told us that they had "talked to" the tech who was supposed to have done the work. Our concern is that the tech will do this again, and maybe to someone who won't know to check their work after they leave. I'm also concerned that we were charged for a part that we didn't need. We'll never know, but I encourage you to look elsewhere for your HVAC needs. read more

We bought our condo "as is" two years ago and knew that all the appliances were original to the 30 year old building. While the furnace & a/c did work properly we knew we couldn't wait much longer to replace them since they had not been properly maintained with the previous owner and were told by another company they were afraid to even service the furnace because they wouldn't have replacement parts if needed. Comfort services has serviced & replaced many furnace & a/c units in our building so we thought it would be a good idea to have them replace ours since they were familiar with the building. Allen came to measure, one two three, gave us an immediate quote (because again, they were familiar with the building & equipment). While deciding on which company to use and trying to get financing the manager called and was able to reduce the price for us which was a huge help since my one & only disappointment was that we weren't offered 0% financing. We were able to get financing & install quickly and feel a huge relief that a cloud hanging over our head is now gone and we should be good for at least 20 years. The new equipment is also SO MUCH QUIETER than the old one, another plus. The installers were very personable. We felt like we were talking to our sons. A big headache turned out to be a pleasant experience. read more

GET A SECOND OPINION. I had comfort services come out to my home for an AC issue. They quoted a $4000 new compressor. The guys didn't seem to bright. I had another company come out. Turns out it was a valve that was $900 to replace. Be very cautious with this company. I was also told the manager would call me. They never did. read more

I called comfort services for the first time when I first bought my house and had issues with the furnace. Dan came out and fixed everything. I also joined their comfort club to add the stuff to the a/c that makes it work (coolant? Freon? I have no idea). With the club I got a discount on that cooling stuff ... and a furnace check up in the fall. They even called me in the fall to remind me for my tune up. Simo or Dan are always helping me out! Now that I needed a new air conditioner, I called them first. Dan came out and put in my new a/c-- which works beautifully. I trust these guys. They always find time to fit me in their schedule. I called, asked if they could replace the limit switch on my 30yrd old furnace. They said YES, they have the parts in the van. The tech showed up, refused to fix the furnace because it was 30 yrs old. Called his boss to ask, his boss said no. Charged me $89 to do nothing. Found the part at Grainger, fixed it myself for $148. read more

This company has very poor customer service and did not diagnose my unit properly. I had multiple people take a look at the unit and this guy was the only one who said the gas valve was out and it was over $700 to repair. Or I needed to spend thousands to get a new unit. Not only did he inflate the price from other quotes I received he was unprofessional and kept pushing us to buy a completely new unit. He also said that a home warranty would not cover furnaces, which is FALSE! Come to find out it was the thermal coupler that is cheap and easy to fix YOURSELF! I called the owner/manager to try and resolve the issue I had and he did nothing when I voiced my concerns about the service and treatment I received. I recommend doing your research first and try and save money solving the problem yourself. These guys try and make people feel like they have no option. HVAC is not rocket science, educated yourself online with videos and articles teaching you how to save money by troubleshooting yourself. Parts are often cheap and can be fixed with a little know how. Do not be fooled by other reviews, I spoke directly to the owner (who is not worthy of that title) and he has no clue how to run a proper business when it comes to process and customer service. These guys are amazing!!!! My AC broke down and I called and they said they would come in the afternoon. When I told them I had a baby, they moved things around and managed to get me someone in 4 minutes. I cannot say thank you enough. The service guy was knowledgeable and quick in fixing the problem, suggested some things but was never pushy, which can intimidate some people at times. Very disappointed with this company. Service tech was very professional, however since the part was covered under warranty from Carrier and he heard me speak to them on the phone stating all the company had to do was file the warranty through their distributor and then pick up the replacement blower and I should only have to pay for labor. The tech had to go outside to speak with his office manager who then tried to make a deal with me saying they would only charge me $425 for the blower plus labor because they need to do some paperwork, when Carrier specifically stated I should only pay for labor. Then they offered me a $39 coupon, how dare they. Now why would I pay $425 for a part that is covered under warranty. I am out the $89 for the service call and the other company I called was more than willing to file the claim and thought it was very odd this company was not willing to do so for their customer. read more

Charged me $345 to swap out a capacitor a $20 part. That didn't fix anything. Wanted $800 for a fan motor a $200 part. Told me they would be back with that part never came back never called. $345 later I still have no ac and now that I went to change out the fan motor, the tech left 2 stripped screws. Felt like I was RIPPED OFF!! My heat went out on a weekend, or should I say it went on and off but never getting the house to over 60 degrees, I thought I better call someone. BIG MISTAKE calling these guys. As soon as the tech Josh started working on the furnace, the conversation went to, this is going bad, that is going bad, you need a new one of those, you are better off getting a new unit, I should have known at that point. Unfortunately, I have a pretty large family and it was getting colder out that day as well as the next few days so I needed the heat to work correctly. Furnace problem: Code from the furnace kept coming back to something causing the pressure switch to not work correctly. The Tech Josh kept telling me that it could be for a few reasons, of course, every reason he stated was Hundreds of dollars, the one he did not mention was the one that was the least expensive of them all (explained in next paragraph). He ended up changing the circuit board which of course was almost $500 for the part plus the labor to install it. When he left, the furnace was on but soon after, it shut off and we were in the same place as when he arrived, same code and same performance, house temp never got up past 60. I started to do research on the internet, shame on me for not doing that first but, when you call the guys that "know", you think things will be taken care of. I researched causes of why the pressure switch malfunctions and I found out that one of the causes was too much water in the drain/hose, the man on the video did say that normally when a pressure switch is not working correctly, it is due to some thing else in the unit and that too much water is relatively common. According to Josh, every motor on the unit was going bad, something wrong with the circuit board and that is what was causing the pressure switch malfunction. I followed the instructions on how to remove the water with a wet vac, I did get quite a bit of water out. Turned the unit back on and low and behold, it is now about a week and a half later and I have not had a single problem. Josh did mention to me something about water in the unit and again it came back to something is wrong and you will need to replace this, that and the other thing. Why didn't he suggest that the problem was what I found it to be and at least try and do what I did to get it going correctly, all he kept telling me was that everything is going bad and I need to think about replacing the unit. I truly believe that if we would have sucked the water out first, I do own a wet dry vac, that would have solved my problem and I would not have to have paid for a part I did not need. I would have been more than happy to pay for the service call how ever long that was. My big issue here is not that I had to pay for repairs but, the fact that I called out the so called expert and in the end I am the one that figured out what was wrong. I felt that the Techs job was not to fix my furnace but to sell me a new one. I truly feel as I was taken advantage of and that if this is how this company does business, there are going to be a lot of people taken advantage of in the future. Unfortunately, in some cases, the "experts" have the customer over a barrel because when your furnace goes out when it is cold outside, what can you do, you are at their mercy and you have to hope that you get a company that believes in doing business ethically. They state on there website that they strive for 5 stars every call, didn't make it this time. I would have given them no stars if i could have. I will NEVER use this company again. i know that referrals are important to companies and I HIGHLY recommend that you DO NOT use this company either!! read more

I am so disappointed in this company. I recently purchased my first home and bought their "Comfort Club" package because I was concerned about maintaining my furnace and A/C (of which I know nothing about). I never received any of the perks of the comfort club and was treated badly by the owner. I asked them to clean my furnace (free with the comfort club package) one last time before my membership ends this winter. They told me that they already cleaned it and left. I checked my old receipts as well as the chart that they keep taped to the furnace. It has not been cleaned at all in the last year. They also charge me bogus diagnostic fees. I am not asking them to come back and fulfill their duties because I never want to see them again. I was treated poorly and like I am stupid because I am young and a woman. Please do not use this company because you will regret it and you will feel badly that you are out so much money. You would think that with the current economy that a customer would be treated better. I was always polite to the service men that came over and never stirred the pot with complaints.
