A tech left our home at 6:30pm in January without us having any heat after installing a water heater. We didn't figure out why our furnace wasn't working until after 8:00. He had turned the gas off to our home and then left without telling us or making sure our pilot was back on. We also didn't have hot water for another 2 days until another tech came out because the first tech never turned on one of our pumps. This was a $3,000 job and we were left with our house smelling like cigarettes and no heat in the middle of winter (not from Jeff who was great, it was the first tech). We went without hot water for over 3 weeks to do business with this company because of their ratings but we didn't have a good experience at all. read more

This is going to be a long review, just a heads up. First off we decided to go with Comfort First because the pricing was competitive, this has been about the only good experience we've had so far from this company. After having the home energy audit we decided to go with a new hvac system, and water heater due to it had to be power vented for the air tightness of the house (unexpected expense as our water heater was only a few years old at the time) but we replaced it to accommodate the new hvac as well as an extensive amount of attic work was requested done. This included the entire circumference of the home and especially our bonus addition that had not been properly insulated when it was built. As new home owners this was our first experience with real "contractors" and it has left a sour taste in our mouths about giving anyone else a fair chance because of the horrible experience we had with Comfort First. They came out and rushed the work in 2 days with 2 guys and it was poorly done. So of course we had to have them come back out.. Then when they came back out "Brad" joined them and I asked him to take pictures of our attic for our records because I personally cannot get up there only to find out that the baffles we requested were not put in the bonus room nor the insulation, it had not been touched at all... mind you we've already paid them over 12,000 dollars cash money up front. And had I not requested those pictures the job may have never gotten finished (at least until we noticed how cold the room still was after all this insulation work was done). After this visit there were multiple other visits to correct mistakes... Permits were not pulled when adding a gas line for our house we had to investigate and tell the company it needed to be done... On another visit they hit our light pole which slammed into our mail box... The driver of the box truck left the light in the middle of the road my husband had to remove the light pole from the road, contact our local company to have it repaired... the company basically shrugged their shoulders about this but it has also cost us additional money (repairing the lawn that was damaged with new grass seed, having our lawn that we pay lots of money each year be torn up by their company)... This is Michigan and yes we have bad weather so driveways may be a little icy.. so you should probably be considerably careful when you are driving a box truck up our driveway. Just saying.. The owner expressed very little sympathy to us for all the trouble we've had, multiple visits out here to correct mistakes, installing lower grade items than we purchased and blaming it on an ordering mistake (this felt shady to me after all the other issues we've had as if my husband hadn't of investigated we'd of had a fan installed in our bathroom that was half of the price than the one we paid for..) Not to mention they kept sending the same person that was making all the mistakes by himself! He didn't have any extra help it was just the same guy over and over, and 90% of the visits were by himself. The first time my husband turned on our new hvac on he had to have it serviced immediately because something was not properly installed (imagine that). Luckily it was late October so we did not freeze to death but had this of been in mid January ... that would of been a whole other issue. And it was honestly all down hill from there. It is now 7 months later and our mail carrier has informed us that the mailbox that the driver of the box truck slammed into needs to be fixed as it does not meet the code for height purposes with mail delivery. I've had to make several calls to Comfort First to have this corrected. We have been extremely relaxed with this occurrence as accidents do happen but fix your mistakes, please. Ashley (the receptionist) has been very kind and helpful during this horrendous experience. Brad (the owners son?) has shown little care about our issues... An apology for the mistakes goes a long way! Literary nothing that was quoted was done properly the first time. Hopefully nobody else has as awful of an experience as we have had. I don't usually write reviews, especially negative reviews but the lack of knowledge and understanding of such a high priced piece of equipment from a company who sells and installs it is beyond frustrating! I purchased a geothermal unit from Comfort First because they had been decent in the past with service on my previous unit (before it was damaged by a basement flood) I was sold a unit that was too small for the size of my home, but didn't know this until a few years later after many, many service calls by techs that knew very little if anything about the operation of the unit, including one service tech that overfilled the refrigerant and had it splattered all over the unit. After my heating bills over doubled in price (twice after "service") I had finally had enough and called over and over to talk to an owner/manager. He was never available and no one would call me back. I finally had to call someone else that could help me. He told me that the unit I was sold was for an apartment size home, not a farm house. Also, his research calling the manufacturer revealed that the unit had not been programed correctly. All of the money spent on the unit, over $11,000.00, service calls that didn't fix anything, and my electric bill from running in auxiliary mode to try and keep up with the demand for the size of my house vs the furnace and the lack of decency to respond to me is not professional at all. I'm not sure if the business was sold to new owners or if they just don't care but I will never use them again and I definitely will not recommend Comfort First Heating and Cooling. read more

I'm surprised to see negative reviews for Comfort First! We used them twice and couldn't be more pleased. They installed a Fujitsu wall mounted air conditioner for us in 6/2013 and replaced our ancient boiler furnace in 1/2016.They were fabulous both times! Air Conditioner: We don't have duct work needed for traditional air conditioning. They identified the perfect location for a wall mounted air conditioner which makes our entire first floor livable on hot days at far less expense installing duct work! Furnace: Our old furnace started leaking Carbon Monoxide on one of the coldest nights in January 2016. Consumer's Power came out, red-tagged and shut it down saying that we would have to replace it. We called Comfort First and they quickly removed the enormous old boiler furnace and installed the new streamlined one. Our house was built around the turn of the century which often make repairs, replacements and installations more difficult. They ran into some snags which they were able to overcome while still keeping us in heat. Brad and his team are very responsive, respectful, knowledgeable and professional plus they do a great job cleaning up when they finished. I highly recommend this company! read more

We called Comfort First to have our furnace looked at because the igniter was not firing causing no heat in the house. The tech came in and immediately started looking at the entire furnace and not directly the issue. Then the up sale started and before he even got to the part in question, he was suggesting a new unit. Then I was charged $236 for an igniter that on the Honeywell website says $30, plus a furnace control board that I was charged $602 that normally runs $107. Not so sure how they sleep at night, but I will never call them back to my house and would never recommend them to anyone. I get that they have a rate that goes with installing components but that is quite the mark up. read more

( Lansing, MI) Terrible Experience! We began the process of purchasing an AC unit in May of 2018. Our Sales rep was Kevin and he was extremely kind and patient with us during this process. The unit was installed in mid-June, (we scheduled it in early June, however, one day before the scheduled installation, Dean (the installation supervisor) called me to inform me that they did not have they unit and would need to push the installation day out for a week. When the unit was installed, I noticed that it was not cooling the 2nd floor of my home, the actual machine was turning off and on, and the "new" thermostat was not securely fastened to the wall. We contacted Kevin, he came out and suggested that we purchase a second thermostat even though the installation included they current thermostat. Needless to say he was no help at all. I called the company to inform them that the AC unit was not working properly and shared the thermostat issues. A technician came to my home the next day, informed us that they unit was installed improperly and that we would need to rewire everything. After a few hours, he 'fixed" the unit, and finally we were able to enjoy the cool air throughout the house. The tech requested that I sign the order sheet and stated that I owed nothing because was under warranty. Within less than a week, I woke up to a loud rumbling noise coming from the basement. I ran downstairs to find the furnace vibrating loudly! We turned off the AC and the noise stopped! We called Comfort First, again! The same tech came out. He turned the AC back on heard the noise and immediately ordered me to turn it back off as he went downstairs to investigate. After about 2 hours, he noticed that one of the panels/doors were bent, he used two strips of silver tape to secure the panels. He turned back on the AC and all was well. They then showed me a worked ordered and requested that I pay $190. I reminded him that the company had installed the unit less than 2 weeks prior and that would shouldn't owe anything. He called his manager, Dean. My mother spoke with Dean, explain the situation, and Dean indicated that he would "take care of it." The tech left and we've had no issues with the AC/furnace since. Today (3 months later), I received an extremely rude call from Dean, who demanded that I pay them by Friday! I reminded him of the situation and he began to yell at me. I have never been talked to like that before! My colleges could him yelling at me and suggested that I just hang up. I, politely, told Dean to have the nice day and ended the call. I am embarrassed and I wish that I never dealt with this company. After all of the hassle the unit works properly but the disrespect that I received from Dean negates anything positive about this experience. read more

Just a quick note. Recently, I had a a service call to evaluate a problem with my a/c system. The technician was on time, courteous, and mindful of keeping my carpet clean from tracked in dirt. He did his evaluation quickly and was knowledgeable of my system. He gave me a complete and accurate report of the necessary repairs needed to get my system back in operation. I spoke with Ashley on the phone to set the appointment. She had a sweet smile in her voice, rare these days, and made a wonderful first impression for the company. We didn't have a great experience with this company and never will call them for anything else. For starters, their website says that they offer 24 hour emergency service. If I call at 5:00am because I've had no heat all night in freezing temps and you can't arrive to my location until 11:00am. ( that's not 24 hour emergency service) Secondly, they send a service tech. out to fix my problem but he walks in looking like he has no clue how to get to the furnace. ( smh) It honestly took this guy 4 hours to complete a 10-15 min job. He practically took up my whole afternoon. First he walks in with the wrong part, he then leaves back out for about 20 mins to go pick up another part, just to come back to tell us that he broke that one and needed to leave out again? ( like really??) & to top it off, try to charge us a ridiculous price for service. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Their customer service is lacking terribly. read more

Comfort first came out, did the assessment ,understood our needs ( the cooler air needed more on second story of my two story home...The cost seemed fair so we arranged for the installment of air conditioner unit plus thermostat....Installation day the unit was installed and connected to my new furnace....air condition unit not working or connecting...finally Kevin came out ( our sales person ) to assess the problem telling us we would recieve a thermostat for free and this should correct the disconnect problem , a thermostat that was discussed as part of our original deal...once again cool air not reaching second story....first floor freezing ,second floor warm...Kevin comes back and closes off basement vents to no avail..and advised us to call if further problems occur..Lastly loud noises sounded from basement within one week of installation...since air conditioner connected to finance we did as Kevin suggested...call Comfort First..Kevin never said that call would be a charge...The person who came out said it was a loose door on the furnace which caused the loud noises and not the ad unit therefore $ 99.50 was due.....Comfort first was the only ones messing with the furnace so if a door was left ajar or loosened there workers had to have been the culprits..otherwise the doors would have made loud noises all winter when the heat on...The nerve that they feel compelled to charge for the negligence of they're worker is astonishing...Sounds like small court issue...I 'll never recommend... read more
