I love chicken tenders and Comet Chicken might be my new favorite spot! I got the churro and chicken combo, 2 chicken tenders, 2 churros and fries with two sauces. I got the buffalo and ranch. The chicken is so juicy and decent sized tenders. The sauces.. so good! THe ranch is delicious and the buffalo was the perfect mild buffalo sauce, tangy and a little kick. The churros were good too. The fries!! Yum!! Has a good sweet hint to them in the seasoning, think similar to a popular chicken wing place .. but better! Will definitely be back. They may have been under staffed (is what it seemed like with one guy running from the register to the back) but they handled it well and food came out timely and perfect. read more

Chicken, my favorite! Comet Chicken is hard to spot when driving by, but once you spot it you're on your way. Fast and easy service where you order at the front and they bring it out to your table. The staff were all courteous, kind and helpful. The interior is gorgeous and very well spaced out and designed. Table, booth, high top and patio seating, yeah, they have it all. We opted for the tender meals and weren't wowed, but it's good food. The sauces are odd in flavor and the coleslaw could have tasted better, but the chicken and fries were on point. If I'm ever back I think I'd try one of the sandwiches or tasty looking bowls. read more

I stopped in at Comet Chicken during the fall Downtown Restaurant Week -- the one that coincided with lighting of holiday lights -- because I noticed that they had a banh mi "birddog" as one of their special offerings and it sounded like it would hit the spot for lunch. I was thinking that the birddog was a slider of some sort, but it is actually a chicken tender sandwich served in a hot dog bun ... kinda clever, if you ask me. The chicken tender fits perfectly in the hot dog bun so is probably a little easier to deal with than the regular sandwiches where a couple of tenders slide around in a hamburger bun. The best part of the birddog is indeed the chicken tender -- as so many have noted, it is large, has a super crisp coating, and is perfectly-cooked, juicy chicken breast meat. I'd say that it was banh mi-inspired, with sriracha mayo and some pickled vegetables and jalapenos ... I would have liked a bigger hit of the pickled vegetables and maybe a few sprigs of cilantro to brighten up every fried chicken bite. I made it a meal by adding space fries and a drink. I'm not sure that I would spring for the space fries again as I didn't find anything particularly special about the spice blend that distinguishes them from regular fries, but the fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I also like that they have Boylan's sodas -- if I'm gonna have a soda it might as well be sweetened with cane sugar (I mean really, are diet sodas really all that good for you?) I took my order to go since (a) I was just passing through downtown on my way somewhere else and (b) I'm not super jazzed about eating indoors with yet another COVID surge happening in FoCo, but when things get back to semi-normal I can see this being a place I'd be happy to hang out. The dining area is bright and open with high ceilings and just enough chicken & space decor to be charmingly quirky. I'm looking forward to trying a few more things off of their menu -- I mean, how did I not notice that they have churros until after I placed my order? I always have a hard time finding a place with gluten free food and this place is amazing their buns taste like actual bread and for a decent price every time I go it's no more the 16 and you don't have to pay extra for the gluten free. Also the soda there is really good I looove the black cherry soda is now my favorite drink and the service is really great. Stopped at Comet Chicken for a late lunch and weren't disappointed. Their menu is limited but it does the job well. We ordered the 4 piece, which comes with fries and two sauces and is enough for two people to share. The sodas are off brand, but we thought the ginger ale and the cream soda were really good. I've now ordered chicken from Comet Chicken twice - once for delivery, once for takeout, and I am in love (as you can tell by the different angles of the same sandwich, just so you can appreciate each side of goodness)! I walked in most recently in the middle of the week, and strolled right up to the counter. A bubbly young woman bounced up from the kitchen and asked what we were looking for, suggesting the Nashville hot if we liked spice. Yes, yes, I do like spice! I ordered the Nashville hot sandwich, opting out of the combo she offered, since I knew I'd be more than full after seeing the size of another sandwich heading out the door. When I unwrapped this massive beauty, I knew I was in for some delicious pain. The crust of the chicken glistened with fiery sauce, the fluffy bun soaked up the drippings from the fresh slaw and piping hot oil from frying the chicken. The first bite was perfect - sweet crisp followed by a wave of spicy heat, which was tempered by the creamy slaw. I devoured the entire thing and wasn't mad about it. Since it's walking distance from work now, I foresee a few very unhealthy, but oh-so-delicious, options to many upcoming meals! read more

The only thing that kind of bothers me here is that they use an alternative brand for their fountain drinks. I mean, it's great to see something that is not the usual beverage giants but personally I am not a fan of the diet cola by this brand, it has a very distinct flavor that I found that people either like or can't stand - it's absolutely NOT one of those cases where if you're blindfolded you wouldn't be able to tell the difference! Other than that everything is super and fresh. I would still recommend to improve the coleslaw a little bit but the 'meat' here is the chicken and fries and they really make those to perfection. Also, I find that this place being maybe a block away from College Ave (the main street) is a little less crowded, or maybe this was just a coincidence in the 2-3 times I was here. Now with COVID restrictions still in place there is less seating space though. read more

Forget chick fil a! This is your chicken spot! The chicken has such a fresh flavor to it. It's perfectly crispy, tender, and flavorful. Their fries are as perfect as fries can get. I love their original chicken sandwich. It's mouthwatering. I would suggest topping it with coleslaw and buffalo sauce! If you're a pickle lover, don't even worry about asking for extra! They do not skimp. They do not have coke or Pepsi products which is a bit of a let down because it's all cane sugar sodas.. Comet Chicken was an awesome experience all around. First, there was ample seating, which is always nice to have in a fast casual restaurant. The menu had awesome options at affordable prices. Sandwiches were $6 and baskets started at $7. There were also great gluten free options. I got the two tender basket and it came with fries and slaw. All 3 were top notch. The tenders were crisp but not over battered. The fries were great, packed with flavor, but not over salted. The slaw had awesome flavor. My only gripe was I only got one sauce and the second was 30 cents. Would be nice to have gotten a second sauce for free. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Holy smokes, Comet Chicken is THE BEST. We came here on a whim while walking around Old Town and it exceeded expectations. I got the Bhan Mi chicken sandwich with grilled chicken and a gluten free bun, and it was out of this world good. The service was amazing. When I was ordering they were able to tell me all the ingredients to make sure it was actually GF and warned me about the 1 Tbs of soy sauce that was in their sauce batch mix. The GF bun was the best I ever had, and the grilled chicken had incredible flavor. It was moist and delicious. Excited to come back here one day when I'm in town! Pretty good chicken place. I really love the interior design, the buffalo chicken sammy was delicous and no peanuts used there which is great. The beers and drinks were a bit over priced and not quite advertised as is on menu price but still a great experience none the less. I do have to say it's semi hard to eat the sandwhiches with 2 wings in them instead of 1 patty (they slide out either side) but the chicken was so good I didn't even care. Luckily they provided tons of napkins ;) I'm sure 2 pieces of chicken is much less artificial than a patty anyways! Yummy!!! Would come back for more. read more

Still love Comet Chicken. Have visited 3x since my original review because I found myself craving that delicious burn. Comet continues to deliver a quality product that draws me in. Tonight's batch of Nashville hot didn't burn as much as the last but the slaw is a great cooling agent. My only desire would be a storefront across from my office! Loved, loved, loved their Nashville tenders! Whole family loved them, in fact. They've got a nice kick and they're not greasy. Comet is a bit stingy with their pickles, though. I'm finicky when it comes to chicken; I actively avoid the pressed and glued stuff. Comet's chicken definitely passed the test. My only other complaint is that I paid for a few extra tenders (sans Nashville sauce) for my son, but the restaurant forgot to include them in my order. We ordered the family meal, which is a definite value. Coleslaw and blue cheese were average. Brownies too; they're big so that was a nice surprise. Overall, we'll be visiting Comet again. Finally got around to trying Comet Chicken and I was really impressed. I got the three piece chicken tender basket with crispy chicken and it comes with fries, a small side of coleslaw, and I chose the House Sauce, which the cashier explained as a mayo and ketchup base finished with garlic and pepper. Everything was delicious! I typically tell people that I "hate" coleslaw, but it looked good at Comet Chicken so I tried it and surprisingly, I ate all of it - so good! The House Sauce and ranch were perfect for the chicken and fries. The chicken to breading ratio was perfect and the chicken was tender and hot. There was a tad too much seasoning on the fries, but not a big deal, they were still great. The price for what you get definitely seems fair. We got a 3-piece chicken tender basket, a 4-piece chicken tender basket, and two drinks for a little over $20, not too bad. I want to go back and try the 2-piece chicken basket with churros...YUM! Finally a young kid, (I see all the staff were young ) but this kid came out and I had to flag him down before he even acknowledged me. I told him I had been standing there 10 minutes.
