I pay a ton of money to comcast and my cable tv goes out every 5 minutes. I am so sick of it. I have to find a better cable company.

So I was intrigued by an article in my August 2017 Consumer Reports magazine. The front cover…read morefeatured cutting the cord. I was interested since my bill for satellite was now double from when I subscribed to it exactly four years ago. The providers entice you with introductory offers that only last for a year or so. I read the several page article which was very compelling. It even estimated what you would pay depending on different options. A gal in my book club just cut the cord and suggested I look into doing the same. My daugher was in town for the weekend and I discussed my thoughts on cutting the cord and getting an over the air (OTA) antenna. I already have wifi together with HULU, Netflix, Amazon etc. She told me that she only uses an antenna together with her streaming apps. Therefore I started investigating what my options were. I wanted to replace my satellite DVR with another that would that would record at least 4 stations at a time and had enough memory to handle my recordings. I wanted the DVR accessible to my other televisions and wanted a mobile app to set and view my recordings from anywhere. I wanted the ability to stream Netflix Hulu Amazon etc. and I wanted an OTA antenna that would provide me with all the local stations and then some and would not be obtrusive. I almost purchased an amplified indoor antenna but then decided to look into an outdoor antenna that would mount on the satellite mount. I researched an April 1, 2017 article in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune which also discussed the benefits of cutting the cord. The article featured an antenna distributor. I then went to Yelp to see if I could find reviews for antenna installers. There were at least two and I talked to both companies. After discussing my needs with John I decided to go with Cable Alternatives. John was extremely knowledgeable and could provide not only the antenna but the equipment and set it up for no additional charge and no additional cost to me as long as he provided the equipment. John was also very courteous and answered all my questions and concerns. He would make this very easy for me! He knew exactly what I wanted to accomplish and how to implement it. He thought the Tivo Bolt and Mini's were a great choice. I called my satellite TV provider and canceled the service a week out and scheduled John for the day that my service was terminated. John's installer Andrew is absolutely fabulous! He was at my house promptly at 9 o'clock in the morning on the day of termination. He installed all of the equipment helped me register for the Tivo service and equipment online and installed the antenna, TiVo Bolt DVR and my TiVo mini's for the additional televisions in the house. Everything was hooked up to my existing cable and linked to the wifi router. He got all the equipment working and showed me how to navigate the system. What a great guy! He is extremely personable and extremely knowledgeable! He indicated that he has done hundreds of these installations and he was very diligent in his endeavor. I have now enjoyed my first couple of days after cutting the cord and I love the equipment I love the installation I get great reception. I may miss a few cable channels but not the cost. I would highly recommend Cable Alternatives if you're thinking about cutting the cord with cable or satellite. Trust me since I have had one or the other for over thirty years and finally am not paying to watch my favorite shows on local TV.

This was a fiber-to-the-home connection, complete with a fiber optic cable I could actually look at in the closet. When I activated the service, which was really quick and easy, I got about 50 Megabits per second over the modem's built in wi-fi router. When I wired my laptop directly to the switch, however, I easily got the rated 500 Mbps I was paying for in an online speedtest. Don't use the built-in wifi router. I purchased high quality Unifi equipment, and I easily get 4x faster speeds than I did when I only had the built-in wifi access point.

I called to cancel my service when I finally had another option and it is nearly impossible to get a human on the phone. After hours of arguing with their chat bot I finally got a human who promised me they would stop further bills. A week later I got an email saying they were charging my account. I went through the drama of getting customer service again and they assured me I would not be billed. The next day I had $83.43 removed from my bank account for a service I no longer have access to as I long ago returned the modem. Now they are saying I can't cancel "mid billing cycle" and they won't refund the mon of service I don't even have access to. Bunch of liars.

Once again, I had service that well exceeded my expectations when having a problem with both my internet and phone service. On the recent occasion, I sent an email to the customer care team about my internet outage, and almost immediately got a cell phone call from a representative. He said he saw the email, and wondered, maybe we could work more efficiently together if I was available by phone. He worked with me patiently to explore and fix my internet problem and then took even more time to work on a problem with my phone service that we identified while talking. Throughout the process he was professional, efficient, courteous, and extremely patient. This exceptional service is consistent with every interaction I have had with this company, and I plan to find other opportunities to amplify my continued confidence in this company and appreciation for its customer service. Before switching from Comcast for internet service, I asked friends, colleagues and neighbors about was the customer service the company provided and I can honestly say that I have never, ever experienced the level of prompt, professional and courteous service I have received from this company. 1-Star Review I'm…read moreextremely disappointed with DirecTV's cancellation policy. I called to cancel my service, but because I did so after the new billing cycle started, I was charged for an entire month that I won't even be using. They do not prorate or offer any kind of refund, even if you cancel just one day into the new cycle. This feels like an unfair and outdated business practice that punishes loyal customers who are simply trying to end their service responsibly. Most modern companies offer more flexible and customer-friendly policies. Unfortunately, DirecTV does not seem interested in supporting its customers once they decide to leave. I would strongly caution anyone considering DirecTV to read the fine print and be very careful with their billing cycles. I won't be returning as a customer, and I will be sharing this experience with others.

I asked how I could do that as the billing cycle started a week ago and I didn't received the bill until yesterday. I told them they were forcing me to watch there service. I was told I should have canceled sooner. I was told where I could file a formal complaint, but was unable to find it. When I went into my account, it shows that I can use Directv until 9/26/25. Now I lost 10 days of service but expect me to pay the full amount.
