a flight of beers
Keith B.

Great addition to Clintonville (but still sad to see Lineage closing). Combustion, out of Pickerington, now has an easy access taproom in Clintonville! No more planning to make the trip down to Pickerington, I can now bike and consume some delicious beer before biking on. Some notes: they will not have a kitchen. But they have a QR code on every table that helps you order from the neighborhood restaurants! So you won't get the food trucks from Pickerington, but you can get the plethora of good food in the area. Stop on by, grab a flight (Antidote, Combustion IPA, Kangaroo Hazy, and Sir Veza are a few of my current favorites).

Combustion took over the venerable Lineage Brewery in Clintonville. The bar and setup is mostly the same, though sadly Combustion doesn't offer food. Thankfully, there are ample fast-casual restaurants within walking distance and you can get takeout to eat at Combustion. Not the same, but better than nothing. Combustion does have really solid beer, and a full 20+ taps. The staff is friendly and engaging and they really know their stuff. You won't be disappointed with the beer, just eat beforehand or know it's gonna be takeout!

Great beer next to a great BbQ place . Parking can be a challenge if both places are busy . Tiny patio to the side

Very cool Outdoor space all year!…read more They have installed igloos in the winter and winter bumper cars, in the summers they host all kinds of events from fashion shows, to vintage markets, trivia, shows and much more. Ray Rays BBQ truck and 2 others are always on premise. Ly hunk it's a Hawaiian good truck and maybe pizza but they're always closed qhen I go. Ray rays wod thebest. Lots of easy parking around the place, o worries there. When you enter the brewery is on the right and the beer garden is on the left. The bar is open outdoors on busier days. Lots of picnic tables and places tosit. They have a games area with corn hole, basketball and party style seating. Walk through to the other side and there is a cool cocktail linage bar. With different specialty drinks. Dora does work here because you have to cross a street. The other side has basketball courts that convert to pickleball. Seating over here too and a stage. Juat a cool place to meet with friends, reserve cabanas for parties and r ing all your friends here. FUN spot.

It has a vibe that is conducive to conversation, and activities that are sure to keep visitors occupied and engaged. The area where it is located is reminiscent of the early days of the Short North area of Columbus before it was fully developed. I visited, for the first time with friends and was not disappointed. There are some food trucks nearby, offering a variety of items, and I would imagine most people would be able to find something that they like. There was not live entertainment present when we visited, but it appeared that The venue was laid out for such possibilities. this might be an OK place for a very casual first date depending upon the likes and personality of the person you are with. If you enjoy craft brewing, this should definitely be on your list of places to visit in Columbus. plenty of street parking is available and there are a few lots nearby. As a tip, many of the street parking areas use a system called Parkmobile, by which parking fees can be paid remotely using a smart app on a mobile phone that is so equipped.

Derive Brewing - The wings with the chili oil. Be warned that while spicy, it's not flavorful. Get a dipping sauce.

First time at Derive…read more Good amount of parking. The space is somewhat small but is done well. The bar has a good vibe and is where I sat. I got the Korean BBQ smash burger topped with Korean BBQ aioli, Cleveland Kraut Kimchi, gochugaru (korean chili flake) and scallion. I don't understand the smash burger craze since I like my burgers medium rare, but if I have to eat a smash burger to enjoy these toppings, I'm in! The heat, texture and combination of flavors were epic. The fries are well done too! They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and this was even after 30 minutes. Nothing fancy but done amazingly well and very quickly. My burger was out in a few minutes. I will say that the pizzas I saw coming out of the kitchen will have me coming back to try one of them. The beer was good, although I'll admit that the heat from the burger affected my pallet to truly enjoy the beers since I got a tasting flight. I was here on a Friday night between 5:45 and 7 and it was filling up until I was ready to head out. They do have happy hour on Friday from 2-5pm for $1 off pints.

I appreciate when walking into someplace I'm unfamiliar with, I am welcomed in graciiously, even though they don't know me at all. I ordered a flight of beer so I could try a few different beers. I also ordered a pint afterward of one of the IPAs I enjoyed. My server recommended some flavors to try while I was there and he was spot on. (I interacted with two different servers, one male, one female, both equally helpful and friendly). I would return, only in part for good beer, moreso it's the inviting feel I get from this place. This staff realizes that we have options around town and they made me feel like they wanted me there.

The focus on the beer was mostly on lagers, which I love. Only negative: the man pouring the taps there one of the nights has no clue what he was talking about. I asked him the difference between two of the bocks they had on tap (a helles bock and a maibock...debately the same style, if not very similar) and he said "how strong the Belgian yeasts are" in a very confident tone. I told him I had never heard of bocks being made with Belgian yeasts, and he said it's "a Cincinatti thing". I got a taste of the beer, and there were no phenolics (for non beer nerds: it had no Belgian flavors) so I ordered one and didn't argue.

We hit up several breweries on a recent trip to Columbus, and Hoster was my favorite beer of the trip. It was just well made, good tasting beer - nothing crazy. To top it off, there's bottomless self-serve popcorn and a vintage jukebox topped with a bowl of free quarters to play your favorite selctions from the decades. The collections of artifacts from Hoster's storied histories, make the walk to the bathroom like a visit to a mini-museum. I loved the homey decor and selection of tables, barstools, and comfy chairs. This place was somewhat family friendly, but it's not a huge space, so it's not great for tots that like to run around. I believe there might have been soooome seasonal outdoor seating, but nothing crazy. Lots of parking and easily accessible. The bartender was super welcoming, friendly, and generous! We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't super busy - that was welcomed! Hoster is worth a visit if you're ever in the area. Their brews rival the big names in the area.
