I don't often delve into the breweries in Ohio as I usually am pulled away to other destinations and states. But I did get to try a beer from Jackie O's and I was very, very impressed with it. Steve has had their beer before and liked what he had but it was only recently for me when I got to try a beer from here. The beer I had was the Iron Furnace which was a very flavorful and fun Barleywine. A type of beer I don't get often. The ABV on this one was high. Just over 14% which makes this beer a good one to share. Flavor features in this beer are lovely and you can taste Maple, Vanilla and a nice natural sweetness. The beer is nice and smooth which makes this one a real joy to drink... but I definitely recommend sharing it! read more

This place right here is the spot!! They recently installed a burger place with a walk up window - best decision and they bumped up their outdoor space with multiple fire pits and a big projector screen. It's great in the summer to watch games on. They have the best outdoor space in the city. It has multiple levels, with indoor/outdoor bar. A walkway to get upstairs with seating along the way. Swings, benches and cozy niches to sit in. They also have an event space upstairs that's really cool with its own bar. Always have great service here. Parking can be tricky because it's downtown, close to CSCC, the convention center and a couple other breweries. Look for on-street or there is a parking lot across the street. Need to pay. Good for parties, happy hours and meetups. Locals love coming here and with food now attached it's even better read more

I don't know. This was underwhelming for me, but maybe just not my scene? I think it looked bigger and cooler in pictures. In real life, I thought the building resembled a prison cell block and the views were not as epic as expected. Anyways, on to the drinks and service. For me, those were not great either. One word - WOW - they really turned this into a super magical place. From the outrageous two story patio, art murals, and firepits to the big screen out back, the several bars scattered throughout, and just the overall vibe, Jackie O's got it going on! As an OU student, it's really cool to see what started as a small brewery in Athens turn into this gorgeous location in the heart of downtown with an epic line up of beers and cocktails. Love to see the classic Razz Wheat still on the menu. I've only been twice, but I legit went two days back to back. That's how awesome it was. I had to show my friends! Honestly, I'm not a beer drinker... but to my surprise they have some really great cocktails. I can't remember the names of the ones I tried off the top of my head but one had lavender in it - which I'm a sucker for. I've attached some photos, they might help. If you're looking for a bite to eat while sipping on your cold one, Goood Friends is in the back and they serve burgers and sandwiches. I didn't try the food but my friend did and he said it was pretty darn goood! ;) I have no doubt that I'll be back soon and I highly suggest you pay them a visit... even if beer isn't really your thing. The outside patio is on the side and hidden from the street. Plenty of tables out there - the patio very cool - with full bar at back. Plenty of lighting and very cool feel. It's a great space. There is no wait staff, so you order food online and they text you when it's ready and it's served in a big white shopping bag. The food was aaaamazing!!!! Tomato sandwich, burger with blend of mushrooms and walleye fish sandwich. We ordered wings as well - those were the special of the day. HUGE and crispy. Everything was outstanding. My wife's cousins chose this place, probably because they have little kids and the venue has a really nice space set back from everything else with a cornhole setup and other things to distract them. The vibe and layout are cool. The beers and drinks were seriously meh - I love Mystic Mama, but I keep looking for that *second* outstanding Jackie O's handle... service was ok (it was Sat afternoon and they seemed busy) but not super friendly or... well they just didn't seem to care about the paying customers that much. I've loved Jackie O's since grad school. I had visited the main location in Athens. Such a great brewery! They've taken over the former Elevator brewery space. It's so large! Tons of seating outside, inside, upstairs, downstairs. The bar area is also inside and outside on the first floor. No lines when I came. Lots of TVs for the soccer game too. I got the Ricky. A light golden ale. Refreshing! They do sell merch here. You can buy beer glasses and clothes. Not busy for a Sunday afternoon. A good number of people, but still a lot of open tables. Tons of parking around too. Mostly paid parking lots across the street. They do have a tiny parking lot but it fills up fast. When we came, their kitchen hadn't opened yet. Looking for the premiere brew party, rather it's just for fun or after work, Jackie O's got it all for you. I have seen this place get completed for a while every time I drive home from work. I absolutely love the design of this place. It has a lot of the brutalist steelwork and wood that you've seen in most of the newer, larger bars. But hear me out, the design here actually works for it. There is seating everywhere! Long-finished wood tables and fitted seat booths all along the inside of the building with the bathrooms in the back along with standing room near all the bar areas. Plenty of space for groups and doggos. Bring your pups! And there is a private space for events if needed. The Athen's brewhouse has a lot to offer. With crowds who are as diverse and LGBQIA+ friendly, no wonder why everyone comes here. And let me tell ya,... parking is no joke. Get there early or carpool if you can. I got into the wrong lot and moving to find a spot was a hassle but that is a city issue. LOL. read more

I remember seeing pictures of Jackie-O's when it first opened and thinking, holy cow that place looks sweet! Well, I've since been a handful of times and the layout definitely meets expectations. They have so many different areas to sit and hang out, both indoors and out. They have tables for small or large parties as well. Even with the variety and large, two story layout, this place gets packed! Good for business, but sometimes difficult for customers (long lines at the bars). They brew all their own beers, which I didn't realize at first. But when you walk in the main entrance, to the left you will see the large brewing tanks. I've tried a few of the different beers and found my favorite to be 'Endless Echos' which is a hazy IPA. In addition, they have roughly 25 different ones to choose from, so I'm sure there is something for every type of beer drinker. Also, they have self-serve water on both floors, so don't stand in line at the bar waiting to order a water (I made that mistake the first time). They don't have their own kitchen, but there is a bagel food truck parked outside adjacent to the first floor patio. I haven't tried the bagel sandwiches yet, but they look pretty good. I've also heard rumors that Wario's might be vying for a food truck spot at Jackie-O's which would be awesome. Overall, Jackie-O's is definitely worth checking out, but if you go on the weekend, expect it to be rather crowded. read more

There is a small lot beside Jackie O's on 4th with an outside entrance off the parking lot where you could easily roll a bicycle or stroller through the parking lot gate. There is a relaxing outdoor space, with plenty of communal seating. From swings to high or low top tables. Outside is also a dog friendly space. Upstairs is wheel chair accessible with a ramp to the top. In addition to the inside bars there are two bars outside, one lower level and one upstairs. The beers on tap and cocktails/mixed drinks differ from the inside bars and outside ones however your tab is good at all bars! Don't have enough time to stop and hang out? No worries the front is easily set up for grab and go. P.S. If you need to charge your device(es) don't fret! Even in November, the outdoor space is where it's at. From swings, to couches, to benches, to secluded booths, to open seating fire pits, to TVs, to heat lamps, to the well-placed bars, it's impossible to have a bad time. Indoors was impressive as well, especially the upstairs which was slightly more loungy and grown-up than its downstairs counterpart. There was a diverse selection of beer which one would expect. I stayed away from the ones that I knew (Mystic Mama and my favorite Who Cooks For You) to try the Thunder Island IPA (fine) and Cherry Livelihood (good). Damn. Wow. What an absolutely killer statement from Athens-based Jackie O's right here in the heart of Columbus. So as an Ohio University alumni I've got a big heart for Jackie O's. But I don't want to let that cloud my judgement too much here so I'm doing my best to review Jackie O's on 4th from a less biased point of view. And my review is Let's talk about how big this place is to start. It's huge. Is there a larger bar in Columbus? I'm not sure. Most of the venue is outdoors but there is ample seating inside as well. Certainly the outdoor space is the feature. There are two bars - one outside and one inside. As of today the inside bar serves more saisons, barrel aged stouts, and similar beers whereas the outdoor bar serves more IPAs. Both bars move pretty quickly and are well staffed so don't be deterred if you walk by and see what appears to be the most people you've ever seen at a bar. Today Bagel Street Deli (an Athens staple) has a food truck set up right near the entrance and eventually Wario's (a local favorite) will be a permanent feature too. The beers are great. Obviously. If you aren't sure just go try them. Nothing much else to say about that. They do have a bottle shop too so you can take your favorite craft barrel aged stout to go. Highly recommend. So I'm summary I'm very excited and impressed by Jackie O's on 4th. From the decor to the layout and of course the beer and expanding food options this is a legit Columbus destination you HAVE to try. Oh and you'll probably see lots of OU t-shirts. OU! 1. They ASSUME everyone who walks in there knows the setup and how everything works. We get here for Sunday brunch that they've (GoodFriends) been bombarding social media with and when we walk in the door there's about 7 Jackie O's staffers huddled around each other either having a staff meeting or shooting the shit that just stop mid sentence and just look at us. No "Hi" , "Welcome" or nothing just stares like we walked in an hour before opening but we didn't, we walked in at 11am which is the time they open. Finally one of the staffers says "Have a seat anywhere," which we do. 2. You've got to be PROACTIVE. We sit down and we're ready for brunch and to order FOOD and drinks but getting to the food is kind of confusing. The set up is like LAND GRANT in FRANKLINTON but not as obvious because at LAND GRANT the food trucks are separate from the brick and mortar business so it's kind of OBVIOUS to get your food, pay, then take it inside and sit down and eat and order drinks. HERE everything is in the same brick and mortar building yet the Jackie O's staff makes it clear these are TWO DIFFERENT businesses. So we kinda got the feeling that the Jackie O staff felt INCONVENIENCED about questions regarding who, what, when, where, and how to order FOOD from GOODFRIENDS. There are some QR code menus on the table, you do everything on your smartphone with a credit card, order, the kitchen and pickup window attached to the building but outside will text you with your order, you go back outside pick up your food and bring it in to eat. Again it's 20 degrees outside and this was our first time here so we didn't know this. If you're not PROACTIVE upon arrival then I can envision folks coming in thinking they're going to get an attentive waitress or something and putting in a food order and instead just sitting there. 3. Some of the cocktails are premixed and in a tap. What drink place you know DOES NOT make the drink to order and puts it in a tap or dispenser? If I wanted PREMIXED COCKTAILS then I'd just go to the areas adjacent to the liquor store in ANY Krogers or Giant Eagle. The glasses weren't dirty but sticky for some reason. The beers and meads were okay and maybe I picked the wrong ones. I got like a beer called the WHITE APPARITION and something else that wasn't memorable. The lady at the bar was nice enough to let me try a few samples before picking the final one that ultimately wasn't memorable after all that trial and error. 4. After getting our GoodFriends food staff was more concerned about grabbing back their beer and cocktail glasses as opposed to any used cutlery or plastic containers of food you just ate. The ONUS IS ON YOU to clean up your own mess and throw it away. This setup would seem awkward to leave a tip on the table because you do everything yourself so we didn't. We TIPPED from the open tab we had from the beers and cocktails we ordered though. 5. Nice ambiance inside with various seating including upstairs I guess but it wasn't obvious if you can go up there or not. Again it was cold outside but outside it seemed like it was plenty of benches and seating and even some of those all weather see through igloos but they didn't look like they were open and even if they were I DOUBT Jackie O's staff would've waited on you accordingly once inside. 6. Although Jackie O's staff is there to sling drinks maybe if they would put on their waiter and waitress hats more and push the GOODFRIENDS food and setup and maybe some helpful throwing away of plastic ware they'd get even LARGER TIPS and more customers. 7. We'll be back but probably only for GOODFRIENDS food and no drinks read more

We visited the Jackie Os location on a cold Sunday afternoon and brought a few of our friends with us. We all found it to be a very fun place. Lots of friendly staff and patrons. Great selection of in-house beers and lots of fun cocktails.
