We had lice years ago and did the whole at home remedies and it didn't work. We then ended up going to some place near us in Berkeley that has since closed down and it got rid of the lice real quick. Cut to a month ago and we had lice, the whole fam... FUN! We called around and Lice Free was able to get us in the next morning and rid us of our lice in about an hour (and I have some thick, long hair). They start by combing out the nits and lice. They then put in this spray, they put ya under a heat lamp, and then they comb it out once more. Boom. They sold us what is some probably over-priced oil that we did a few times over the next few weeks. My head was itching abbot 3 weeks later and they told me that if I don't see a live bug, I'm good. However, I went in for the check-up regardless, and sure enough no lice. Apparently there is only a guarantee if a follow up appointment is booked the day of the original appointment. 1) I wish I knew this little caveat to the guarantee, and 2) why in the world would I book a follow up appointment on the day of my original appointment? I expected the problem to be solved right then and there. Ava was helpful, and thorough in here explanation of her service, and what I should expect. She was able to schedule my nephew for the very next morning at 8am. The treatment went well, and my nephew loved Ava. She had us laughing, and learning about lice. She provided proof of treatment letter so I was able to give it to my nephew's day camp that very morning. At least I didn't have to worry about being treated -- being bald has it's benefits. Though Ava educated me on the importance of delousing the house, so after sending my nephew off to day camp, I had Ava stay for a head lice cleaning of my house. The removal process involved saturating hair, dividing in sections and meticulously combing through to get nits and lice. And paid $200 a head to get the treatment. But the lice came back (or never left) and when we went in for the follow up treatment, because my bald husband hadn't also been treated, the guarantee wasn't honored. So we paid again. And the lice remained or came back. By month 3, when we found lice AGAIN, I was despondent. How much time can a person spend on laundry, on driving, on waiting, on dealing with this pest? I was amazed to find Christina. For $150/hr she comes to your house (at 8 pm!) and can check every person and comb out the nits. This ended up being way more time and cost efficient. Plus she is interesting, professional and capable. I had one treatment at LCA with a tech who seemed very disinterested, who didn't believe me when I brought in a louse in scotch tape and said he didn't see any on my head so it was probably just a one-off. Christina comes with a completely different air. She even comes with a microscope that examines the louse so you can see what stage it is in. The treatment involves a follow up comb out 4-6 days later. So glad we did this as well because she found the microscopic nits that weren't large enough to comb out the first time (and which is probably why at LCA we kept having the lice come back).
