Ryn in particular went above and beyond. She had already worked a 13-hour day treating every child at my daughter's school to ensure they were completely lice-free. And after all that, she still came to our home with the same level of patience, professionalism, and care to treat my daughter, my husband, and me. I never had the opportunity to have lice during my childhood so when I got it and I went to my…read moredermatologist, he completely missed the fact and diagnosed me with some sort of eczema. The medicine he gave me wasn't working . It wasn't until I took my daughter for the same scalp itching to her doctor that her doctor diagnosed it immediately and looked at my scalp and told me I had lice. So I realize that kids being kids, especially girls, having sleepovers using the same pillows, hugging each other and rubbing their hair together, often sharing the same brush, and I'm assuming one of these things brought the lice to us. And now we try to be very careful about these things. Her doctor recommended Nitpixies and I have to say they are very good. I met the owner of Nitpixies, Kniji, and was very impressed by the business. She got rid of the lice and then we also bought the lice shampoo and conditioner and detangler just to use to try and avoid getting it again. Again, kids being kids, it's hard to stop them from being so close to each other. I really like the shampoo and conditioner smell. I would definitely go back if we got lice again. My hair is so long and thick that I can't comb it out myself. It isn't cheap, but it was definitely necessary. So once we found out that we had lice, we called all of our friends to let them know so that they could also get checked, and several of them also had lice so who knows who gave who the lice. But everyone got checked and cleaned. If you've never had lice before, it is really important to make sure you wash all your bedding in very hot water and take away all the things that lice can travel on. That was kind of stressful but again necessary.

The treatment went well, and my nephew loved Ava. She had us laughing, and learning about lice. She provided proof of treatment letter so I was able to give it to my nephew's day camp that very morning. At least I didn't have to worry about being treated -- being bald has it's benefits. Though Ava educated me on the importance of delousing the house, so after sending my nephew off to day camp, I had Ava stay for a head lice cleaning of my house. Nit Nurses was responsive, effective, and entertaining; I'd recommend.

We live in Albany, and in the Albany school district kids aren't sent home for nits, just live lice. I've been doing preventative shampoos and sprays daily, but today my daughter's teacher thought she saw a nit in her hair. I checked her head thoroughly, but couldn't find anything. I'm still super paranoid, because lice are gross. I should also mention that I have dreadlocks so if I get lice it's gonna be (a plethora of sweat words) to get them out. I called Ava just to ask some questions and she was so incredibly helpful, even though I wasn't necessarily calling to set up an appointment. She told me what to look for on my daughter's head, explained how lice function, and she hooked me up with a ton of recourses for what to do if I do end up getting them. If my daughter ends up getting lice I will be booking an appointment with Ava for their removal.

The air dry treatment was easy, the comb out was thorough (and hard to endure, very glad I wasn't trying to do it myself at home), the leave in oil treatment was unexpected. After we arrived I saw the advice to wear an old shirt - that is true! Anyone getting treated will get oil on their shirt and it will leave a grease stain. Grabbed her first appointment and was able to find out pricing & treatment options all over our text exchange. They require a $25 deposit for the appointment which they then apply to any service and/or purchase. Rachel started with a lice check, followed by a heat treatment, then treated and combed each section of our heads, and concluded with an essential oil treatment. My son and I opted for the full treatment because I was tired of the OTC stuff being ineffective and/or me not being as thorough with the at-home treatment. We even had my husband do an oil treatment even though he was lice-free to be overly cautious. Rachel was thorough, informative, understanding, and destigmatized what having lice meant using wording like "love bugs" and "hitchhikers" when explaining the process to my son. The place was clean and she sanitized every step of the way! While the treatments for the both of us were pricey, it was definitely worth the peace of mind that it was done well and done expertly.

We had lice years ago and did the whole at home remedies and it didn't work. We then ended up going to some place near us in Berkeley that has since closed down and it got rid of the lice real quick. Cut to a month ago and we had lice, the whole fam... FUN! We called around and Lice Free was able to get us in the next morning and rid us of our lice in about an hour (and I have some thick, long hair). They start by combing out the nits and lice. They then put in this spray, they put ya under a heat lamp, and then they comb it out once more. Boom. They sold us what is some probably over-priced oil that we did a few times over the next few weeks. My head was itching abbot 3 weeks later and they told me that if I don't see a live bug, I'm good. However, I went in for the check-up regardless, and sure enough no lice. The check-up did cost $20, but is not charged if you indeed have lice, in which they give you a free treatment. *Within 30 days, I believe.

Upon being notified by a third party, we booked a same day appointment for a 1 hour lice removal treatment that is listed clearly on their website as costing $135. See link and I have taken a screenshot. As soon as my daughter and I walked through the door, the assigned technician Jen, began aggressively pressuring me to screen myself and book screenings for my husband and second child, at $60 each. She outlined their policy of free repeat treatments if every family member is screened and a re-infestation occurs. I thanked her for the info and let her know we'd decide and may choose to conduct our own screens, but she would not relent. I finally asked her to please focus on my child and get started and that I would decide later. Jen asked if I had any questions and was talkative and opinionated. She said OTC treatments like Nix are toxic and that Hair Fairies only use a gentle leave in conditioner that loosens the glue of the lice / eggs followed my manual lice combing to remove lice/eggs. She also claimed that lice have become resistant to the active ingredient in Nix. In the first 30 minutes, Jen found 3 "eggs" that looked like specks of dandruff, no lice. She commented that it was a "very early and mild infestation" and then handed over to another technician. This new technician over the course of 45 minutes, found a grand total of .......zero eggs and zero lice. As 45m had passed with this new tech, I asked if treatment was complete, and she didn't have a clue. I then spoke to her colleague who informed me that due to my daughter's hair length, our treatment would be 3 hours!! I was shocked and went to the front desk to let them know only 3 eggs had been found in the first 30m, and that continuing to comb my poor daughter's hair for another 110 minutes seemed beyond unnecessary. I also noted that I had originally booked for 1 hour and $135, as listed on their website of services. The response I received was an aggressive "but you didnt book through the website did you?? You booked on the phone" -- to which I responded "yes and I clearly referenced the 1 hour, $135 treatment when I called". As it turns out, we were being charged by the HOUR, only no one could tell me what the hourly rate was. They kept referring to my daughter as a "moderate" infestation and when I repeated that it was THREE "eggs" and no lice, which seemed minor / mild if anything, esp in comparison to the children seated alongside us with 30 eggs and as many as 40 lice detected. For 75m of "treatment" aka combing with a lice comb and abundant conditioner, we were charged a mind boggling $202. Had we done 3 hours of treatment (which isn't even listed on their website), I estimate it would be an ADDITIONAL $296 (this is based on the following math 110m/75m x $202 since no one could give me an actual answer in store). They wrote me a card saying my child is 100% clear of head lice, noting only 3 eggs, no bugs were found and that our treatment was incomplete because I chose to conclude it at 75m not 3 hours. I am shocked and disappointed at the flat out dishonesty on pricing, duration and process, and the mischaracterization of 3 eggs / no lice as a "moderate infestation". I am really saddened that a local vendor would prey on families in this manner. Even if someone has $678 to spend on screening three family members and treating one family member ($60x3 for screenings and $202 + $296 for treatment) -- then there needs to be clear and proactive communication. That way, one can make an informed decision, esp vis-a-vis the many other options that exist including a $10 lice comb and an $18 OTC treatment. This is beyond predatory, it is false price listing and illegal under the FTC.
