    Aztec Tortilla Soup
    jon k.

Best Tortilla Soup and Chorizo and Potato Tacos! The soup has shredded chicken, avocado and an additive broth. The tacos were made of delicate, handmade tortillas and were beyond delicious. Even the handmade chips and salsas were outstanding. This restaurant right next to Lake Merritt is outstanding!

My gf brought home a burrito marked "veggie" and its was a bean n cheese STUFFED with zucchini. The zucchini was very slimy and there was waaaay too much. This is the first time in decades I couldn't finish a meal. I hate wasting food but this was disgusting and made my stomach hurt. This is the second time I've had this burrito (my gf buys them) and we usually go to burrito express on telegraph. Both times is was nasty but I was able to stomach it the first time. For the record I would not have ordered from here but my gf asked me if I want a burrito from ole ole and she switched to this place because they also have bogo bean n cheese burritos. I would pay twice as much to not eat this. It tastes like uncooked nopales.

I like we have this option literally 15min walk from our apartment in Adam's point. It's a cute place right on grand ave although these days sitting out it can get noisy especially on weekends with the big bikers rolling up and down the street:( I have eaten here twice. Tried some tacos and burrito the first time with some other items and we all agreed the burrito was worth coming back for. Solid pork al pastor. Quite tasty and different since they put pineapple in it. The salsas are quite different also and they r yummy. Chips are freshly made so very delicious. One of the things I wish they worked on is serving some salsas and guacamole in plastic containers even for those eating there. I get it, it's probably convenient and easy but in our world today there is so much plastic already that this gives me a big headache. We typically choose to dine in to avoid plastic containers to go and yet again here we are. I hope the owner tried to serve in small steel or wood containers for those dining in. Thank you!

Came on a Sunday around 30min after they opened. Was very quiet inside but the restaurant has a lot of seating inside and out front and cleanly decorated. The restaurant is counter service and then they bring the food to you. The food was very good and huge portion sizes! We should have split one dish between the two of us. Also got the hibiscus lemonade which was delicious.

    MORE RAW CHICKEN

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. So first of all guys the chicken was RAW like no chicken should be raw (see pictures down below. Then when asked about it they claimed it was SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT !?!?! Like what chicken is supposed to be raw guys its supposed to be cooked to like 165 degrees actually if you're eating raw chicken I hope you stop. ANYWAYS I ordered yk a simple elote w the cheese powder yk sum light BUT NOT EVEN THAT APPARENTLY. The elote was brought out first and like 5 minutes later the cheese came out but by that time the elote was devoured like hello now some of yall might say im big for this action but hello an elote should come TOGETHER with the cheese like at the SAME time. So anyways now we shall get started on the customer service when I asked if I could get just a bit of lettuce bro seemed like annoyed that I asked that like damn and anyways he said yea but like when I aksed for some refried beans because yk a little bean never hurt anyone except in ths situation ig. When I asked for the beans the worker was like "ill ask they might get MAD" like do yall abuse your workers guys and so he came back and said no because its "too much work" like what ??? hello like no shade but the whole like place is making food like i know someones bout to order them beans like eventually youll have to so why not now ??? because its TOO MUCH WORK like. And the damn place was lwk empty too like yall are doing too much atp.

Veggie bowl + chicken for be $5 extra

Comal Next Door is pretty damn delicious. I normally order through DoorDash and almost always order a chicken burrito with no crema. Honestly, the area around the lake is blessed with a lot of great Mexican food. Last night I ordered a vegan burrito bowl and added chicken for $5. Unfortunately for my protein lacking self, the bowl had all of the labels on what should have been inside but they missed adding in the chicken. My heart was instantly struck with grief. Anyway, I reported it to DoorDash and it was taken care of with a credit. I do like that they encourage you to order from them directly on their ad they included in my bag. I may just do that to make sure my food is right next time.

    Roach in the bathroom

Friends and I ordered chicken burritos today and they were so good!!! My one star review is due to the cockroach we saw in the bathroom. Call an exterminator! If there is one then that means there are a WHOLE LOT MORE!

Drink menu, cocktails only available after 5p.

3.25 stars. Could be a 4, but they're not trying that hard. Lots of pluses and minuses. I like the burritos well enough. They're slightly above average. The fried chicken torta was disappointing though. A good number of beers on tap. But the wines aren't so good. Even being across from the lake, the place is not especially inviting. There's some seats indoors but there's no atmosphere. Yes, it has four tables out front with a view. Not the worst place you can end up in a warm summer day. Especially if there's a long line at Grand Lake Kitchen. I am ambivalent. Don't be surprised to find me here on a warm day having a burrito con cerveza if I don't have time to go someplace else. Frankly, I mostly order delivery from here.

Came for brunch. No line, not crowded at all so I was skeptical and worried about how the food might taste. Lots of space and clean tables with outdoor and indoor options. You order up front, take a number, and then sit down. We ordered the chilaquiles and the huevos con chorizo. Huevos con chorizo was like a Mexican scramble with meat, peppers, potatoes, and eggs. Pretty good flavor. It came with rice and your choice of beans. The chilaquiles you can choose roja or verde. I got roja with 2 eggs and it was flavorful. Not the most amazing chilaquiles I've ever had but pretty good. We also had two house spicy sauces they served to us. One was a mango habanero, super tasty and the other was super spicy (too spicy for me but I'd you like spicy go for it)! Overall, good experience and good service. We would come back. However, when you compare to other Mexican spots in the Bay, it's probably somewhere in the middle. Id give a 3.5 stars but it doesn't allow that option on yelp. And, there are other options in the bay that are tastier.

The staff has always been friendly, and the food has been consistently enjoyable. One suggestion I'd offer is to consider adding a happy hour or Taco Tuesday special. There are several Mexican restaurants nearby that offer deals like those, and I think it could help bring in more customers during slower times. The food is definitely good enough to attract people--I just think a few specials would give more people a reason to stop in and give the restaurant a try. The menudo was completely bland and tasted like it came straight out of a can definitely not fresh and absolutely not worth ordering. The chips and guacamole were just "okay," but even that's being generous since the chips were clearly old and stale. The steak nachos were the final straw. They were straight-up gross. I ordered steak nachos and somehow got nachos covered in rice, barely any meat (if any at all), and a laughably small portion for the price. On top of that, they were made with the same stale chips. For what they charge, this level of food quality is unacceptable. I won't be coming back. The server was rude and short didn't care to answer any questions. Sinceramente me molesta haber gastado dinero aquí. No regresaré.

All of the food is delicious and amazing. But what takes the restaurant over the top is that the food is comforting and familiar in equal measure to its inventiveness and flawless execution. This is not just food for the tongue and stomach but food for the soul.

Arrived to no host so another worker had to assist and kept looking around for the hostess. We made…read morea reservation a month prior, the table wasn't ready, but we managed to get seated at a table with other diners. The woman who brought water was very welcoming. The prices on the menu are $5-10 more than the menu on their website. It's a nice dining room, but very loud and the piped-in music makes it worse: I couldn't hear what my date was saying across the table. We started with the smoked trout tostadas. This is kind of ceviche style, and they were delicious. These are "street taco" sized tostadas by the way. The portion was OK but for $20 it could've been a bit more substantial. The duck mole: the duck was nicely unctuous and cooked amazingly, but very salty. The mole had the consistency and taste of hummus. Needless to say it was thick, gloopy and tasted only of cumin. The little salad on the plate was plastered in it. The grilled swordfish Valencia style was just an overly sour salsa verde with a couple chopped green olives with the fish sitting in the watery liquid. The salsa had a kick, but tasted mostly of lime, it was also cold. The swordfish however was grilled perfectly and the portion was great--for $35 I'm glad it was. Beans and rice seemed an overly salty afterthought, and if you don't want beans, too bad, it's served in the same bowl as the rice. The service was almost non-existent--no one checked in on us or asked how things were; there seemed to be only one person taking orders in the dining room and three-four people running around. Our appetizer plates sat in front of us for 15 mins, so when the entrees arrived the runner had a hard time clearing the table and simultaneously putting down the entrees. We didn't see our server again until the end when she gave us the check. Suddenly the charm came on when the tip came up. I appreciate what they're doing, but for that price point there are far better options.
