My daughter and I had a blast painting ceramics at Color Me Mine yesterday. This was something I used to do ALL the time when I was younger so it brought me back! This was our first time here, and my daughter's first time painting ceramics and she really enjoyed it! When we first entered we were greeted by a young woman at the front. She asked if we had reservations (which we did not), but that did not seem to matter. She told us what we had to do in regards to picking out the ceramics. There is also an $8.00 studio fee per artist. She gave us a paper to fill out with our info and we went to pick out our ceramics. My daughter chose a cute giraffe piggy bank, and I chose a cupcake box. Once we picked out what we wanted, we told the woman at the front and she got us the materials we needed. We sat down at a table and got to painting. We filled up our palettes with the many different colors of paint they had available. It was so easy to get right into painting. I overheard someone say you should do multiple layers of paint so it will look nice when they glaze it, but my daughter does not have that kind of patience. I tried my best with mine, so we will see how they come out. It took us a little over an hour from start to finish. When you are done you leave your ceramics at the table and go up to the register to pay. It certainly is pricey! They even had a discount on the day we went (Wednesday) for anyone five and under, the studio fee is $1.00. Even with the discount the total amount was $56.00. Yes, obviously the ceramics you pick will affect the price, so just be aware of that. My daughter did have a bit of a meltdown once she realized she had to leave her giraffe there to get the glaze. The woman said we can pick up our ceramics in about two weeks. That seems a bit long, but I assume they are pretty busy. I saw them packing away a bunch of ceramics that had been glazed and there were A LOT. Overall, I had a fun, bonding experience with my daughter at Color Me Mine. It's obviously not something I would do every day, but it was so fun to do something different for once! read more

I recently came to this establishment and had mixed feelings about it! The staff are somewhat friendly and don't really assistant you if you need help, at least with me they didn't not. The girl just pointed to the table and said the instructions are on the table. There are many different assortments of pottery to choose from (which is fabulous). The prices range from inexpensive to pretty expensive, depending on size. You are welcome to any colors you may like! The paint is all washable so don't worry if you get any on your clothes - it comes right off! This is definitely a kid friendly place! However, I think bringing little ones up to the age of 3 is tough because a minimum of two coats of paint need to be on the pottery and from experience, that age group are very impatient and lose interest quickly! Don't think you will be taking your pottery home the same day either! You need to leave it in their facility for a week to dry and be glazed before picking it up! The location in itself is not ideal. It is located in the center of Summit and depending on the time of day it extremely hard to find parking on the street (which is meter parking). There is a public parking lot about two blocks away that you pay per hour if you cannot find parking on the street! read more

She just didn't seem super helpful, warm or friendly, and I was a little disappointed. The second was led by a cheery, friendly, happier young lady who was GREAT with the kids. A friend had her birthday party here recently. It's a bit of a trek out to Morris County, but anything for our friend, so my boyfriend and I drove out to Summit. We parked the car in a lot a block or so away since the studio is on a busy main street and there isn't much in terms of street parking. When you step into the Color Me Mine studio, all the ceramic pieces from which you can choose are found on the wall to the right. There are tables throughout the space and a high table in the back. We had made a reservation for studio time and were seated at the high table towards the back, which is a good spot as it's close to the brushes and different colored glazes. There is a wide selection of glazes - all different types of colors and effects (like sparkles and whatnot). If you haven't been to a place like this, you are charged for the ceramic pieces that you chose to glaze and studio time. That night it was a flat fee (some places charge by the hour). The prices were what I expected them to be in terms of ceramics. I ended up spending $40 that night. [Hey, this kind of stuff is my jam. Don't judge me.] You're given a plastic easel and go up to the glazes and squirt whatever colors you want. Grab a brush and cup of water to clean your brush, then you go to town on your ceramic. Once finished, you hand it over to the staff and they'll let you know when you can pick it up after they've fired it in the kiln. The wait was a week or so. It's great for kids and crafter-y people. I liked this location and thought that they had a diverse selection of ceramics. I made a guitar shaped spoon dish for the kitchen and Nintendo controller jewel box for a friend. My boyfriend made a plant pot for our herb garden. I went very utilitarian (made only things I can actually use), but you can also make gnomes and stuff like that if that's your thing, too. I love love love this place. My son and I come here about two times a year or whenever we have a day off from school . We come here and spend some time together painting. Anytime we go we don't have a wait, they set us all up with the item of our choice and off we go. Parking can be a bit of a hassle if you're trying to find parking right in the front. But there is a parking lot around the corner not too far. Overall this is a really cute place to come with kids. read more

I re-visited this shop more recently (post lockdown). The staff was more helpful than they used to be. All paints and ceramics were available. For two little girls (ages 6 and 11)the entire price was $51 and this was on the day of discounted pricing on Tuesdays (two seatings for price of one). A lot depends on the ceramic items you select since this will increase your price. It is pricey, but for the right child it is a very nice activity/gift. read more

This place is very cute i will say that it is target mostly for little children;however, I went with my husband and a friend and we had a blast. We were in our little world painting our little ceramics. They got children ceramics but they also have kitchenware , vases, room decor and other things for adults. I wouldn't go back. I brought in my three young nieces. I had never done this before and I got very little guidance. When I had a question several times I had to go to the back of the shop to try and find someone to help. The sitting fee plus the pottery was an expensive outing. When I got home I looked at my receipt and I had been charged the adult sitting fee for my 3 nieces. I called to question the charge and I was referred to the manager. She questioned exactly how old my my 9, 7, and 4 year old nieces were. Then she me told she couldn't give me credit over the phone I would have to come to the shop, and she was the only one that could give me credit. So, in order to undo their careless (maybe) mistake, I had to come when she was there. Parking was difficult, I had a hard time getting a spot (paid parking, again) just to come back for the refund. It was processed and there wasn't so much as an apology for my inconvenience. read more

If you have kids and it's raining or cold out your options seem to be limited on what you can do. This is a fun alternative to a movie or playing video games. The premise is simple. You walk into the place, talk to the woman at the register and while she is organizing a table for your needs, you can look across the wall to pick out the item you want to paint. Be sure not to grab it as they make it clear that the staff will bring the item to your table once you let them know what you want. So now the kids can get messy and creative and paint ceramic items as a door, angel, plate...etc. It keeps them occupied and becomes a great opportunity for some funny pictures. Bring your own smock if you have them as the paint (although washable) does get on their clothes. PROS: A good way to keep kids entertained. Fun for adults too. CONS: Average item is about $15 to paint plus you pay a studio fee ($6-$9 depending on age) per child which can add up. Once your item is done, you can pick it up in a week after which they fired it up and made it perm. read more

Had a great time with my husband painting our daughters' keepsake boxes (without them!) Love arts and crafts but as a mom never get to enjoy arts and crafts without the little ones. We brought a nice bottle of wine and enjoyed a childish but child-free activity and spent 3 hours painting our pieces. The employees were extremely helpful! The staff wasn't friendly. I came with three well behaved kids (8, 13,14) and the staff didn't explain things or even say if you need anything let us know. They were in the back area almost the entire time and seemed more annoyed that we were there then happy to have the business. Even the order sheet I was confused about and they didn't help to explain further or really be nice and welcoming to questions. I tried to purchase a gift card for my boyfriend to come here for his birthday. The asst manager of the store Amber was extremely rude and unhelpful and asked me to call several incorrect numbers when I was not emailed the voucher I had paid for. When I finally got in touch with someone on the phone they basically cancelled the order for no reason. I spent over an hour trying to throw my money at this company and because of their lack of competence I was unable to obtain a simple gift card. Really? This place is expensive so not having key colors is pretty bad. I brought my toddler here to paint her handprint on some items for gifts. Before we started, I told the staff that I didn't know what I was doing, and would love any/all of the help they could give us...I was given quick instructions, and no additional assistance. I asked 4 or 5 times for extra help, and was either ignored, or given the absolute bare amount of instruction/assistance. The two women working seemed pretty annoyed by my questions and requests for help. There was only one other person there painting, so we weren't there at a time when the staff was overwhelmed. 3.5 stars they have the basic plates/mugs and also a wide array of seasonal and silly things that you can decorate. i found the final product samples to be pretty inspirational. some were flat out masterpieces on plates, others did a greeting card kind of remembrance plates, then there were mosaics, etc. it's hard to describe, but worth checking out. i would have given it 4 stars, but there's a $9 sitting fee/person on top of the actual price of the item that you'd decorate, which could range from $12-100+. then it takes a week before you can pick up the final product. read more

Went here with a group of 6 for a Friday girls nite out -- well organized, staff really nice and very helpful. Didn't rush us even though we stayed a few minutes after closing time. This place was a good alternative for a rainy activity. My daughter loved picking out a project and colors to make it just her own. There were a ton of things to choose from to make - banks, plates, statues, bowls, vases, figurines. You name it, it was probably there. They have a handful of colors to choose from and the ability to use them were unlimited. You pay a price for paint and the item you pick out. You have to wait a full week until they fire your item and it's ready, so make sure you're aware that you're not walking out with the item you make that day. It's a little pricey in my opinion, but this is something that you do just every now and then. The staff is OK - nothing good or bad to say either way. The shop is cute and clean. They hold parties and girls nights and events of the like, which is again, a nice alternative for children and adults. I was unimpressed from the beginning. They had a party in the back which meant the staff was focused on that and not the front room full of customers. They say items will be ready in a week. A week later we went and our items were not ready for pick up as they hadn't been fired yet. I went back two weeks later and was given what I thought was our three items. When I got home I realized they mixed up one of our items. I called immediately. They said they had the correct item, would put my name on it, and save it for us. When I went back to pick it up, I was told they couldn't find it and we could paint another one. We didn't have the time for another one. Plus, we wanted the one we had painted. After expressing my disappointment (and my son breaking down in tears because his piece was missing), they looked again. This time they returned rather quickly with the correct item. Overall, it was not a positive experience. We will not return to this location. read more

We went here to have some family time as my youngest daughter was going away to school. I really love the concept of choosing and creating your own masterpieces and making it your own. It also was quite therapeutic. The family really enjoyed themselves and now have items that we can look at and have fond family memories. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I do not feel that we were given adequate information. My husband really struggled to write a message to our daughter on his project, he is not artistically inclined. The next day when we returned for my daughter to complete her project we overheard another customer asking for paint markers and stencils. Had we known that this existed it would have made my husband so much more proud of his piece. The other issue was about 30 minutes before closing a staff member came to us while we were finishing up our painting and explained that if we needed more time that we had the option to return tomorrow. This was not a problem. The problem was when I was asked to pay now so she can close out her register. Me with paint on hands, paint brush in hands had to fish out my wallet and pay. I'm no.t sure why I needed to pay in the mist of painting, I would have preferred to pay up front. All in all it was a nice event for the family. read more
