However, when they arrived they brought nothing to crate our important pieces. They were not aware they needed to crate anything, including a 100 year old baby grand. So, they called in a crating company that I had to pay! In my upstairs room, which they knew about, I had 2 steps too many. Another $790. Upon delivery the driver said he could not back into my driveway. $700. Said they were not responsible for the uncrating. They laughed and threw around valuable painting as if they were playthings. After they left we went to the master closet. They had thrown all our clothes into the floor in a pile. This was our 13th move. They damaged more pieces than the other twelve moves combined. We were told our daughter's furniture might arrive by June 6, but it didn't show up until June 20 -- two full weeks late -- with almost no communication. We got only two hours' notice for pickup instead of two days, had to cancel hotel reservations, and spent over $1,000 on extra lodging while waiting. When the truck finally arrived -- at 10:30 p.m. -- we discovered three sentimental, irreplaceable photos of our daughter and her horses were missing. After getting several estimates we scheduled a move with Colonial Van Lines. However, after the initial sales call, it was extremely difficult to get clear information from them or responses to my questions. After multiple emails went unanswered, I decided to cancel the move and requested a refund of the deposit--consistent with the terms that provide for a full refund if candidates at least 5 days prior to the pack date. Three emails, two phone calls to the number on the contract that you call to cancel that went to voicemail , one phone conversation with a quality assurance person who promised to send a confirmatory email and refund the deposit, and I still do not have written confirmation of the cancellation--as we approach the 5 day deadline. I am happy that I decided to go with another mover. There is no public customer support email for colonial that I can find and they seem to do all their business through phone calls--which doesn't provide a written record. While talking to the people at Colonial Van Lines they appear to be helpful, but once you get past the quote and actually need to move the experience goes rapidly downhill. They use independent drivers and the one we got was consistently late for both the pickup and delivery time, he was always rushing to get the job done, and in the process walked through our screen door and also broke a floor outlet cover while they dropped our sofa off the hand truck. The driver showed up in a U-Haul rental truck because his equipment broke down. Our furniture was later off-loaded from that truck to another truck, which also broke down. During the delivery he was due at 8:00 am and showed up at 6:00 pm. And during the off-load process indicated we were wasting his time because he had to wait for us to go back and forth from the storage unit to the front door to open it for him. Very discourteous! The 5 stars is ONLY for Donna as she seems like the only competent employee of the company. Through the process Donna was empathetic, polite, communicative, and accountable. This is probably the worst experience with moving I've ever had. I contacted Colonial Van Lines to schedule a long distance move from Arlington, MA to San Marcos, CA. The representative was polite and sounded professional and knowledgeable. She assured me that Colonial Van Lines was NOT a broker but a legitimate moving company with their own fleet and told me to check DOT to confirm. I decided to move forward with them with as the mover and paid half of the invoice as requested. On 8/12/2024, another company named "Always Affordable Moving dba East Coast Van Lines" came to pick up my items, NOT Colonial Van Lines. You can read their reviews on Yelp and the Better Business Bureau. The next day, I noticed some surface damage done to my walls but decided to be understanding and ignore it. The real headache started on 9/3/2024 when "East Coast Van Lines" delivered my items to my new apartment in San Marcos. They charged me an extra $337 to load my items onto a smaller UHaul truck to deliver my items since they said they could not fit their primary truck into the apartment complex. This required confusing back and forth communication between the two companies and delayed the delivery by several hours. At this point, I was exhausted and wanted to get the delivery over with. During the move at the destination, I noticed the two movers were not at all professional compared the movers who loaded my items in MA. They dropped several boxes down the stairs, damaged my dining table, and scratched the wood floors in my new apartment by dragging furniture. I literally saw the mover try and carry a heavy box of clearly labeled dishware with one handle which ripped and sent the box down the stairs where you can clearly hear the sound of broken ceramic. I mentioned these issues to the driver and all he said was "file a claim". After witnessing how the mover was handling things, I told him to just leave the boxes and items at the top of the stairs so I could do the rest of the moving myself. I also decided to do the furniture assembly myself because I lost all faith in their competence. I also contacted the account manager that was assigned to my job from Colonial Van Lines to resolve these issues but she could not be reached on or after the delivery date, even after multiple phone calls. She also never returned my calls even though I left a voicemail. A week later I did a more thorough inspection of my inventory and realized that I was missing two boxes, one of which was coincidentally the most valuable box and contained my watches. I contacted customer service and they told me they could not locate the missing boxes and told me to just "file a claim". However, the claim process is laborious and the document requires the customer to agree to the following: "I understand that Colonial Van Lines, Inc. acting as my moving coordinator, bears no liability for any and all damaged/missing items sustained during the course of my relocation and agree to forever discharge said organization from responsibility for the actions of the carrier including but not limited to damaged/missing items." This appears to be a disingenuous attempt to have me formally agree to their negligence and lack of accountability. Moreover, they say they're only liable for 60 cents per pound per article which doesn't come close to covering the cost of the items that were lost. I find it absurd that you can just damage and lose a customer's items, casually tell them to file a claim, and then pretend it never happened. Please stay away from Colonial Van Lines as I feel they misrepresent their business by portraying themselves as a professional high-quality moving company but instead contracts out jobs to less reliable movers. 1 Star -- One of the worst service experiences we've ever had. Would give 0 or negative, if possible. Our cross-country move with Colonial Van Lines was a complete failure from start to finish. What we paid nearly $13,000 for was not even close to what we received. Major Problems: Wrong truck: We paid for a 75' semi. Colonial sent a 26' U-Haul that couldn't hold the weight they estimated. Huge delays: The crew arrived 10+ hours late and delivery was 4 days past the contracted window. No communication: No one answers the phone when problems happen. Emails go unanswered. Unsafe/unprofessional handling: Some of our belongings were transported in the bed of a pickup truck at delivery. Damaged & missing items: Broken lamp, torn sectional, missing ShopVac, bed hardware missing, item counts didn't match. Worst of all: Colonial's failures caused us to be in breach of contract with the buyers of our home, who were stuck waiting because Colonial couldn't meet its schedule. The crews themselves were great. The company, however, is the problem--poor planning, broken promises, zero accountability, and no meaningful customer support. Our contact person was very convincing when we spoke on the phone. He assured us that all of the movers and packers were required to attend a training program and pass each class. We were asked if our street could accommodate an 18-wheeler. We were given an estimate based on our contact's viewing of the pictures of our home on Zillow. We felt confident that we were dealing with the #1 moving company in the US as we were told and our move from Indiana to Missouri would be well-handled. In actuality, Colonial Van Lines sub-contracted our move to another mover in Ohio. Colonial gets half the price of the move up front and the sub-contractor gets the other half. There was no 18-wheeler. There were no men highly trained in packing and moving procedures. There was a box truck, two young men from Columbia, and one giant mess! We were told our moving date three days ahead. We planned our time to be ready. Our house was sold and we closed with the new owners on Monday, two days before our scheduled move. While at the closing, we received a call from a daffy male saying our move would take place a day early and they would have to make two trips. Pack one day; deliver the next. Pack the day after delivery; deliver the next. We inquired as to when they could do the move in one trip as their schedule required us to drive from Indiana to Missouri to Indiana to Missouri--a total of 860 miles. The daffy male had no idea when we could be scheduled for one trip. We were ready to move and agreed to the two-trip move. The day of our first-trip move, two nice young men from Columbia showed up in a box truck! One of the men could speak sketchy English. The other could not. All of our packing was for naught. We carefully labeled everything and where to put it. Neither of the young men could read English because our boxes ended up in all the wrong places with the labels facing in and unable to be seen. After the first load was unloaded, the man who spoke broken English told us their boss told them they had to get our second load that night and deliver it the next day. This was about 1 or 2 P.M. and they left to get the second load. Of course, we had to lock up and drive back to Indiana to unlock for them to work loading until around 11 P.M. We had to be back in Missouri by 10 A.M. to unload. We were informed the they had to be back in Ohio that evening to load another move. You can imagine how our stuff was hauled in and unloaded anywhere it could be dropped so they could get from Missouri to Ohio to pick up another load. lf you read this far, you know what I am about to say. I will begin with the positives - the driver and his team - were fine. They were polite and helpful; both at pick up and delivery. However, my experience with the Customer Service team was was anything but helpful. After I provided them with negative feedback, a Customer Service Supervisor called to discuss. I welcomed this, but it was at an inconvenient time. I asked if she could call me back in 30 minutes and she agreed. I hurried home to prepare for the call but was left hanging as I didn't hear back from her for two days - this was typical of the lack of responsiveness I came to expect from Colonial Van Lines. My primary complaint was that my "personal account manager" (as promised by the sales resprentative) was never accessible. The voice mails I left were not returned and I when I did speak to her, she was neither courteous nor pleasant. Some Reps I spoke with were nice, others not - it was hit or miss. Overall, the customer service - the lifeline of someone who is moving a full household of goods across the country - was dismal. To top everything off, both pickup dates and delivery dates changed unexpectedly. The dates of pickup where set on either Friday or Saturday, but the driver came on Sunday. The delivery date window I was to 'hold' was seven days, and the delivery was finally confirmed for the last day of this window; a Wednesday. But the driver called me the NIGHT before to inform me he couldn't make it and instead was arriving on Friday! This was two days beyond the "hold date range." With little choice and at great inconvenience, I had to rearrange my schedule and pray that it would not change again. I asked him if he was aware that he couldn't bring the tracker trailer into the gated community for the delivery - he claimed he WAS NOT TOLD even though I had made arrangements for this with Customer Service the week prior and paid the extra fees! Not trusting that anything was being communicated to anyone within this company, I called Customer Service first thing in the morning to confirm the new delivery date of Friday. The response I received from your Customer Rep was "the delivery is supposed to be today!" WTF? Any move is stressful, and a cross-country move even more so. I could go on and on about lack of responsiveness, courtesy, communication and the resultant stress (I have been made sick from this experience). I paid for my move six weeks in advance only to learn 48 hours before my move that Colonial had no carrier scheduled and had handed my move over to a completely different company, Fathers and Sons -- the exact situation they promised would never happen. When booking, I spoke extensively with Drexel Benson (ext. 146) who went out of his way to convince me that Colonial was NOT a broker, warning me against "companies who take your money and then hand you off to someone else." He swore up and down that my belongings would never be transferred to a third party, that payment terms were clear, and that my items would be transported directly and securely. All of that turned out to be a flat-out lie. On moving day, an unmarked truck with movers in street clothes showed up at my home demanding additional payment immediately -- again, the exact scam Drexel told me I wouldn't face. My so-called "account manager," Tiffany Harris (ext. 104), acted shocked and promised to call me back with answers. She never did. Not once, but multiple times she failed to return calls. I was then passed to Donnisha Gabbidion (ext. 106), who was not only useless but downright condescending. When I demanded to speak to a manager, it took three days before someone finally left me a voicemail -- without a name, without contact info, and only "available for 15 minutes." When I called back within 5 minutes, I was told she had already "left for the day" and, of course, never heard from her again. Even their so-called "Escalation Manager," Aaron Seusarran (ext. 167), played phone tag until he just stopped responding altogether, despite my requests for a scheduled time to discuss my case. This company is nothing but a dishonest broker operation. They: Lie to secure your money. Outsource your move to third parties without your knowledge. Fail to communicate unless you chase them relentlessly. Change their promises as soon as moving day arrives. Leave you with damaged belongings, surprise charges, and zero accountability. I would not recommend this moving company. I contracted with them to move items from Virginia Beach to Chicago and was assured multiple times by their representative, Carlston Brown, that my belongings would be delivered on August 30th, even though the contract listed August 30-September 8. Based on his promises, I paid a $1,600 deposit, booked flights, reserved my apartment elevator, and planned to receive my items on 8/30. The problems started right away. Pickup was scheduled for 8/29 between 1-5pm, but I got a call just hours before saying they couldn't come. Only after complaining did they show up around 4:30pm. At pickup, I learned my items would first go to Maryland to switch drivers -- something I was never told in advance. Once they had my belongings, everything went downhill. They kept giving excuses like "no movers available," "drivers need to rest," and even "weather conditions" -- despite clear, sunny skies. I was told I would know the delivery date on 9/2, then pushed off again to 9/3. Meanwhile, I was stranded in Chicago during a busy holiday weekend with no belongings and no clear answers. To make things worse, when I tried calling Carlston Brown directly -- the same person who promised me 8/30 delivery -- he never returned my calls. Large Move Unprofessional, Incomplete, and Misleading Moving Experience I hired Colonial Van Lines for a large move under two contracts, and the service fell far below what was promised. Misrepresentation of Expertise: Colonial promotes its "Colonial Van Lines University" as providing expert-trained staff. In reality, the coordinators did not offer the guidance or professionalism advertised. Poor Coordination: The contracts promised a personal moving coordinator. On Saturday, I raised multiple concerns, but by Sunday, no one was available to assist. Logistical Failures: Two trucks were scheduled to arrive simultaneously. Only one arrived. The Claims Director only acknowledged the second truck issue on March 11, 2026, with no prior communication. Improper Handling and Damage: Several valuable items were seriously damaged due to poor handling and inadequate packing. Furniture was not consistently blanket-wrapped, and items were not properly reassembled. Incomplete Packing: Nine drawers from the oversized kitchen island, built-in cabinets, the outdoor kitchen, and other critical areas were left unpacked. Stolen/Missing Items Investigation: Promised investigations for missing items were never completed. Improper Use of Materials: Charges applied for unused packing materials; boxes were reused and mislabelled, and inventory stickers were inaccurate, making it impossible to track items. Failure to Meet Contractual Obligations: Loading, unloading, disassembly, reassembly, and $20,000 coverage were not properly delivered. Overall, Colonial misrepresented staff expertise and failed to provide promised coordination, communication, and professional handling. The lack of timely information, damaged valuables, incomplete packing, missing items, and mismanaged inventory caused significant stress, delays, and loss. Ignoring all of the fluff and misinformation, Colonial Van Lines disingenuous operation seems clear: advertise an attractive fee and dates as a mover (not a broker), collect the 50 percent "deposit," wait until customers cannot make other arrangements, sell the move to a poorly-rated move company, tell the customer they had to work with "agents" when they are vulnerable, pretend that the "agents" are affiliated with Colonial with a logo on paperwork but customers pay the other company, and then claim that they have a $30 per diem maximum liability when things go horribly wrong. After speaking with the sales agent Lauren, my husband and I agreed to use Colonial Van Lines for a pick up. I selected this company after Lauren verbally told me that they were not a moving broker but a moving company. We paid 50 percent of the move upfront as a "deposit" directly to Colonial. Thursday, 6/24/2024 After following up with Colonial, I was informed that I would no longer be working with Lauren, but Davonya, and that we would have JR Moving Corp. as our "service provider." They used Colonial paperwork but the trucks, supplies, and workers were from JR Moving. We were told our pickup was between 10am-2pm on 6/29. Davonya told us our items would likely arrive Saturday, 6/29 (great). Friday, 6/28 The two movers arrived at approximately 3:30pm, but after the initial meeting one disappeared. After four hours, I spoke to Davonya and expressed frustration with the length of time it was taking for our small amount of things. Over six hours for less than 4,000lb (the one mover estimated 2,000lb but said the "scale was closed"), designated elevator, and no stairs. We canceled our initial hotel reservation, drove for four hours until 2am to another hotel and then started driving again at 7:00am with five hours of sleep. It had not yet been confirmed our items would not arrive Saturday. Saturday, 6/29 As soon as Colonial opened, my husband and I spoke to Davonya from Colonial the next day. We didn't want to miss the movers after all. She said we should expect our belongings on Monday, 7/1, and that our items were "in transit." Monday, 7/1 I called and left a voicemail at 4pm, Monday (7/1) because at that point I realized that the movers were likely not coming. We were told that our belongings wouldn't come until after the holiday - outside of the 7/2 latest date. Tuesday, 7/2 My husband spoke to manager Erick, a representative from Colonial, because the information kept changing. Davonya called later to tell us that our items were in Maryland (which is the location of JR Moving Corp). Wednesday, 7/3 On July 3, a representative of JR Moving called us to ask if we were ready to accept our belongings on July 4th. Davonya from Colonial called us two hours later and said that our items were expected to be the 5th or the 6th. Thursday, 7/4 The two movers arrived at 8pm on the holiday (Happy Fourth!) and completed the move at 10:30pm in about two hours - one third the time of pickup, even though there were two flights of stairs at the deliver -- which we paid extra for the extra nine stairs. Weeks after Erick said he would try to go out of the $30 per diem maximum out of delivery date. He kept asking for more time for about a full month, and it appears to be a smoke screen because then after a month he did not give a reasonable offer. The Colonial Van Lines Bill of Lading, Section (B) in the contract confuses me because it states that Colonial may use "agents/independent sub-contractors," a reasonable interpretation of this is contract workers -- not that a completely brokered out move to a different company with different trucks that we paid separately. Given that I was sold that Colonial wasn't a broker, this further supports that interpretation. Erick told me Colonial does about 90 percent of its own moves and that we were in the unlucky minority that had other movers complete it, but I can't verify that information and the company is still responsible for our experience. Once the movers began contacting us, we realized that Colonial was not actually moving our stuff but a 3rd party they had contracted (Posh Movers). Three issues occurred: 1) Upon arriving and unloading the truck, the movers realized they had left multiple boxes and items in their warehouse in Las Vegas accidentally. This delayed some much needed items by about a week while they arranged for another delivery. 2) Once everything was delivered, we realized about 13 items never made it. 3) Multiple items were damaged, scratched, and packed horribly. Large boxes had items literally dumped in with no care. Items were smashed. My baseball card collection from 30 years ago was dumped into the box with no care, etc. Upon filing a claim for reimbursement for lost and damaged goods, we found out that the agreement offered reimbursement based solely on weight. So if your item was worth $300 but only weighed 2 lbs., you would receive only $1.20 for it because of its low weight. For all of our lost and damaged goods, we received a check for $21. I should have read the agreement more carefully. Super disappointing and would never recommend this company again. I would have been better off moving the items cross country myself. read more

We had only packed meds and materials for about 3 days, which was extra based on the timeline they provided. We had to go to the doctor, we had to go to the vet, and we had to eat out. We were left with nothing for school, nothing for work. etc. Their compensation? $30 per day... Do NOT sign that part of the contract without bumping it up if you choose to subject yourself to a disaster. The first crew showed up, two men argued in front of my son because one would not pay another, one walked off the job. My experience with Colonial Van Lines was so terrible, I feel compelled to warn others. When I first spoke to a representative, I was very clear: if they couldn't commit to a specific pick-up window, I would find another company as I had a very restricted timeline to move for my new job. I was reassured multiple times that my request for a 1-2 day pickup window could be honored. Based on that, I moved forward and scheduled my flights to Arizona (from New York) so I could be present for the move as my stuff was in storage there. I was planning the move from Arizona to the midwest. I gave them Wednesday and Thursday (not posting specific dates on here) as the pickup options and was told they would "make a note" that Wednesday was preferable. As soon as I received the written quote, it said a three-day pickup window -- not the two days we had discussed. I flagged this immediately and was told, "That's just how the paperwork is written," but not to worry -- the internal notes still listed Wednesday as the target date. I also noticed a company named Purple Van Lines listed on the paperwork -- wasn't I working with Colonial? Turns out, Colonial outsources moves to third-party companies (a critical detail they never disclosed). Same story with my car transport -- also subcontracted to a different company. This bait-and-switch was never made clear upfront. Then things started to unravel. On Monday of the moving week -- just a day before my flight -- they finally called to say the pickup would be Friday that week, not the agreed-upon Wednesday. I had a non-refundable flight back Thursday. After much back-and-forth and pressure, they changed the moving crew to another third-party (Brothers & Son), who agreed to show up Thursday morning. To be clear: my original plan was fly in Tuesday, move Wednesday, fly out Thursday afternoon. Instead, I spent two days in limbo, completely uncertain when (or if) my things would be picked up. Worse, on Wednesday morning, I got a call saying the movers would be there in an hour. I waited -- for two hours. No one came. When I called back, I was told it was a mistake. Finally, Thursday morning, the movers arrived. But here's the kicker: after a little talking, a couple of the movers admitted they weren't professional -- they were just called up last minute by someone asking if they wanted to make extra cash. These were not trained movers -- just random guys helping load a truck. My items were handled by untrained labor hired off-the-cuff. For delivery, it got worse. I had told Colonial Van Lines multiple times I had a specific window for drop-off -- no earlier than the following Tuesday. Suddenly, I was told they'd deliver on Sunday, when my apartment complex wasn't even open. Again, no warning. Again, chaos. Throughout this entire ordeal: I spoke with 8+ different Colonial Van Lines reps - no single point of contact. I had to coordinate with multiple third-party companies for both the move and the vehicle. They gave me incorrect payment instructions -- I got a cashier's check for the wrong company because Colonial sent me the wrong info. My vehicle was picked up two days earlier than scheduled, without warning -- luckily a friend was available. A few of my items were broken -- which isn't surprising considering the lack of professional handling. The "movers" who unloaded my things at the destination were polite, but again -- not pros. One even said they were just helping out and had no formal affiliation with any moving company. To top it all off, I was never dealing with one consistent person. Every step of the way, I had to start over with a new rep who had little knowledge of what had already been discussed. There was no accountability, no communication, and no professionalism. Bottom line: Colonial Van Lines misrepresented what they could deliver, subcontracted everything without informing me, gave inconsistent and incorrect information, and left me scrambling during a stressful relocation. I don't typically leave bad reviews for companies as I try my best to be empathetic to unforeseen challenges when dealing with businesses. In this case I must say that Colonial Van Lines is an absolute scam of a service. First, they claim they are NOT a broker service. My experience for moving from MD to TN was that Colonial contracted my work to another company, Re-Moving America Inc, which is a third-party partner to Colonial Van Lines that my service was brokered to. Second, even though I went through all the three floors of my house and itemized anything I saw, my actual cost was DOUBLE the estimation. I did a lot of market research and received estimates from 4 other companies. Colonial Van Lines made the lowest estimation for the same number of items and then did a bait and switch to charge me 2x in the end. What hurts me most is that the management of this company, especially the escalation department manager's Lindsey, is horrifyingly rude and confrontational with their customer. I was appalled by the treatment and insinuations during my interactions with them. In all honesty, I do not mind paying good money for good service. I take issue with the bait and switch tactics. Telling me half way into packing up my house that my cost is double the original estimation and I have 7300lbs of extra weight is completely mind boggling to me, especially when I spent a long phone call with the rep to build the estimate as accurately as possible. I saw boxes after boxes with 1-2 items in them only, a single kitchen stool and a plastic jug in a large box. Wardrobe boxes 1/3 full and packed with paper to the top (nothing that can break). This was a move from Seattle area to Vail, Colorado. THEY DON'T DESERVE EVEN 1 RATING I would never use their service again, nor recommend them to anyone else. Initial contact was great, very friendly, positive and included packing and unpacking with dismantle and reassembly of furniture. Packers arrived, difficult to communicate with as English was their second language. Almost 2 hour delay, because they said I had a lot more to move than was originally quoted !! That should have been my first red flag, but I had limited time to get the move completed. I was pretty accurate and clear with what I wanted moved. After paperwork was signed and belongings packed up, they would not give me a copy of paperwork and what they had packed. Stand was removed from TV prior to packing. Second red flag. It was then difficult to get any delivery information, despite having a " moving representative ". She often did not return calls, didn't call when she stated she would and said driver would be in touch on a certain day and I never heard from them ! When belongings finally arrived, the driver was rude, stated I had not paid for unpacking at destination and would not put the TV back together. This was a terrible move. I will not recommend them to anyone else! The end price ended up being significantly more than the original quote, took much longer than expected and their insurance protection was a joke. So I needed to move from Nevada to Arizona and I picked these guys because they were not the cheapest nor the most expensive and i dropped the ball a bit on my timeline so I needed them to come abs move in a short time frame. Other movers turned me down while they said sure. They are nice to work with, very responsive in the beginning and they walk you through everything. I paid them to pack up my whole house and then move it to my new place and they have me a number of just below $10,000 to do it which was cheaper than most other companies so I did it. I asked them one question that was important to me, are you guys a broker? Or will Colonial Van Line be the one moving my stuff. The girl on the phone assured me that Colonial themselves would be moving me. That turned out to be a lie The mover was on time and very professional on the day of the move. I can't say more nice things about the guy who showed up, but he was the only one. Was he suppose to pack up my 4 bedroom house and move it? No Colonial hired local help....from what I found out later, it was through Craigslist. These guys showed up and you could tell they were hungover, strung out, and drug users. I had one "mover" throwing up in my driveway ( better than in the house). I had them also tell me the other two workers were drug users and thrives in the local area. Hell one of them drank all my beer that I had in the fridge by the time the day was done, eh moving always drives me to drink as well I guess also, BUT, our trusty mover that showed Up that morning was again awesome and seemed more annoyed by his help than I was. I could tell that these guys were loading stuff on the truck and Wasn't suppose to get loaded and the stuff that needed to get loaded didn't. It was a huge cluster but behold most of my stuff got loaded and the other stuff that didn't get on that was suppose To? Well I had to rent a uhaul trailer on my own dime and pack the other stuff and drive it down. Our driver told me that it was time to pay 50% of the total invoice, I knew that and so I got my credit Card out and he had me fill out. Form to allow credit card authorization. The company on the form was called Mile High Movers out of Denver. This caught my attention as I didn't hire them I hired Colonial to move. I asked and the driver told me that Colonial hires other companies to help out. This was news to me. I would call that a broker, Colonial calls them "Agents". I would say same thing. Mile High Movers moved my house to Arizona in record time, beat me down there, because remember I had to pack another trailer with stuff that the local help didn't put on the truck. Then drive it down. Colonial VanLines called with a resolution expert named Donna. She is nice but you can tell she is or was in sales. She is a slick talker. They offered me $300 but said they would have to get it from the other company. There is a lot of back and forth and finally I'm hearing nothing. Why doesn't Colonial VanLines pay and go after the other company? Who knows. But I'm not impressed with how they handled anything. Colonial Van Lines is a SCAM BROKER, they are not a moving company, they are a broker. Go look at their DOT page, max of 4 trucks. IF that's even up to date. They will tell you the lowest price you will hear and then hound you non-stop with promises they will not keep, telling you answers you want to hear but that are just lies. It's too good to be true, stop and find someone else. Don't want to? Okay, keep reading: We started this nightmare with Anthony D. from CVL, he was great on the phone, assured me they use their own trucks (they don't), assured me the moving timeline would be correct (it wasn't) and assured me my BINDING quote would not change (it doubled, and only at the time of pick up was this told to us, and what are we going to do, cancel everything and NOT move?). We also requested auto transport for one of our cars, and was given a discount since we were also using them to move. Guess what? They never found a driver in the full MONTH and a half since placing a deposit for the auto transport, so last minute we had to cancel and drive the car 18 hrs, wear and tear plus cost of gas and hotels because in a month this broker could not do the one thing meant to do: FIND A DRIVER. Also want to add it took them 2 months to process this deposit refund. After securing and paying a deposit on the -BINDING QUOTE- (it's not binding because they lie lie lie and opps, now your rate has doubled and its moving day so you're screwed!) We had maybe one or two emails sent reminding us of what to pack, not pack, moving FYI's, etc, but never any contact about the move itself. Anthony lied about the car transport, lied about CVL using their own fleet- a main reason we chose them, we would have run if we knew they were a crappy broker that cares ONLY about the money. The DOT site lists them as having 4 trucks. About a week out from the move, we suddenly have a new account manager, zero info on why the change, no info that anything said or communicated with Anthony was transferred to this Ebonie person. We are told and sent in writing on the contract the packers would be there to pack AND load on the same day, the 18th of April. Well, the singular old mover gets there, tells us its just packing today, pick up is the next day..... No, that is not what our contract says- just the start of all the contract breaching this company does. We are then surprised with what is DOUBLE our BINDING QUOTE ( see how not binding their binding bs is?), but what are we to do, we already were at the last day in our place, couldn't say no and scramble last minute for another company in what, 24 hours? Even the driver knew this company was shady as he broke down every line item and the why. The driver was the only good thing about this entire experience, thank you Dave. He used more boxes than what was quoted, so more money there. This was on me, I should have been watching like a hawk, but he packed like one or two items in a large box and sealed it, while at least two more boxes worth of stuff could fit in there. While our driver was great, he stayed in communication. The one frustrating thing was they sent one man, one old man to pack an entire 2 bedroom house by himself. Do you know how long that takes? Ill tell you: 10 hours. 10 hours of standing around while a single person packs a whole house, yet STILL manages to pack literal trash and things I said and marked to leave.. Save money and just pack yourself if you're dumb/unlucky enough to hire this company. Thankfully, when pick up came, he had a helper so things were loaded in about 4 hours. We were told the 21st-30th for a delivery window, but was promised it would be closer to the 21st- you guessed right, it was not. Our second account manager Ebonie J. called once to inform us when our driver would be there to pick up (she was wrong and not for the first time), and then went radio silent for the following 4 days. Our emails went unanswered, we had no help or contact from CVL during our move. When we FINALLY heard from her, it was to tell us our stuff was being loaded onto a second truck and she will reach out when they have a second driver.... Panic time, but we have Dave the Drivers number, his response? "Those sales reps don't know anything, I still have your stuff and will be there on the 26th". Again I cannot stress how much of a blessing this driver was, he told us on pick up when he expected to be in Vermont, told us he had two stops prior, and kept in communication when he was a day out. The time he said he would arrive was on point. Seriously, just stop reading and go phone Quality Relocation inc, I bet the experience would be much better, more honest. We were charged $812 for a shuttle on pickup and delivery since the complexes both could not accommodate a full size tractor trailer, however I still have NO idea what this "shuttle" even was as my stuff never left the van it was loaded on... I had to facilitate the move over the phone as I had already moved by this point - therefore I was unable to monitor the packing - everything was packed like crap, no boxes we labeled, and just a total disaster. Want to talk to a manager? Good luck - they refuse to put you in touch with anyone to help and refuse to give any contact information for management. Worst movers period! Stay away from them if you value your time and property. They work as the middleman for smaller movers (like Posh movers). They will deliver your stuff partially and will not communicate with you. My stuff arrived nearly 3 months late, almost lost my job due to them holding my work equipment hostage for months. To Whom It May Concern, My wife, Linda, and I recently moved from New Mexico to Florida to be closer to our children and grandchildren. This move was not a matter of convenience but a necessity for my wife's health and well-being, as she has recently endured two strokes and heart surgery. We entrusted Colonial Van Lines with this critical cross-country move, paying a deposit of $2,221.40 toward a "locked-in price" of $6,066.62. Unfortunately, this decision has resulted in one of the most appalling, unprofessional, and stress-inducing experiences we have ever endured. When the truck driver arrived on Monday, November 11, it quickly became evident that Colonial Van Lines operates in an unreliable, haphazard, and entirely unprofessional manner. The situation spiraled downhill with baffling miscommunication, unethical practices, and outright incompetence. First, the lack of coordination between Colonial Van Lines and the driver was glaring. The driver seemed entirely uninformed about what he was supposed to load. This led to a last-minute bait-and-switch price hike that left us with no choice but to pay more or have our move completely derailed. Additionally, the driver arrived without any support or crew--an unacceptable oversight for a cross-country move. Eventually, two individuals, questionably hired via Craigslist, arrived with no knowledge of the situation or connection to the driver. This is far from the professional service your company claims to offer. As the chaotic loading process concluded, my wife and I were left deeply uneasy about whether our belongings would ever make it to Florida. Unfortunately, our worst fears began to materialize upon our arrival. On Saturday, November 16, we were contacted by a representative named "Mansour," who asked about our availability for delivery. Despite assurances that we would hear directly from the delivery driver, we waited for days without any clear communication. Finally, we received a "confirmed" delivery window for today, November 21, between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM ET. A subsequent confirmation from the driver narrowed this to 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM ET. Yet, just hours later, we were informed that no delivery would take place today and that we would need to wait another three days--until Sunday, November 24. This is an outrageous and entirely unacceptable situation. Since November 13, we have been without a bed to sleep on, chairs to sit on, clean clothes, furniture, or basic necessities. Linda's health conditions make sleeping on the floor not just uncomfortable but potentially harmful. Asking us to endure additional delays after such an egregiously mishandled move is beyond comprehension. Colonial Van Lines has not just failed to meet its obligations--it has inflicted unnecessary stress, inconvenience, and potential harm to my wife's health. Therefore, we demand the following: 1. Immediate delivery of our belongings--today, not tomorrow, not in three days. 2. Reimbursement of our $2,221.40 deposit due to the unacceptable breach of your contractual and professional obligations. 3. Waiver of the remaining $4,608.31 balance and the additional last-minute shuttle fee of $750 as compensation for the extensive physical, emotional, and financial toll this ordeal has caused. As consumers who purchased a service, we should be able to have a reasonable expectation that the services will be rendered as advertised on the company's website. Their website states that they provide "highly accurate, transparent quotes with no surprises". This whole experience has been disgraceful and entirely unforgivable. You don't text the client and state "We will be there between 1:30 and 2:30 pm today and then at 2:15 call the client to say they won't be arriving because of traffic and a weight ticket, but we will be there on Sunday. If this matter is not resolved immediately, Colonial Van Lines will face legal action, including but not limited to a medical lawsuit for the harm caused by your company's negligence and failures. NIGHTMARE; impossible to get ahold of my account reps, both the sales team and the account management team. I was told on Friday that I would be contacted that day to confirm pickup time for Monday. After calling over 5 times, without a callback from my sales rep, I finally got thru to the customer service line, who confirmed that my pick up day would be the next day, Tuesday from 10-1; 1:00 being the absolute latest they would be there. It's currently 3:30. I've tried getting thru to the customer care team multiple times, 50/50 answer rate. The company they used also scheduled a move before mine, meaning the packers are going to be exhausted, while I've been waiting around the past 2 days, trying to get information. Do not contract with this company. There are many reviews along the same lines so Ill keep this short. Daughter quotes $3800 to move from Bellevue Wa to Austin. Truck left two weeks ago and wont arrive until tomorrow. Final bill 6k! She paid roughly $1400 upfront. Originally they told her last week delivery then, for the entirety of last week they couldnt tell her where the truck was or when it would show. Finally, yesterday, they gave status with projected delivery Sunday. Best I can tell Colonial is a broker. They collect the deposit which likely goes to them. They then contract with another company who earns the balance. Their upfront hook is to suck the customer in on a low bid and then stick it to them once the local company picks up your stuff. I would avoid at all cost. Its a scam and yet due to the low relative cost and the expense to pursue them legally I think most people just pay the bill and move on. We will be pursuing with the state of Florida as this is where they base out of but again, Id just avoid them at all cost. Hoping this keeps some other trusting family or individual from experiencing what my daughter did. Follow up posting: Colonial immediately contacted my daughter and adjusted the bill to make this right. They were consistent in communication and made things right. The movers were very careful and efficiently packed our belongings. They communicated with us very well and made sure we understood what they were doing and what their schedule was and what to expect. read more

Colonial Van Lines has failed in multiple areas of performance regarding my contracted move from Florida to Texas. Their repeated breaches, misrepresentations, and negligence caused me severe financial harm, and inflicted medical trauma upon the 77 rescue animals also being transported in this move. At contract signing, I was expressly told by Diana Morillo that delivery would occur in two to five days of pickup. At no point was I advised of any potential delays or staffing issues. Only after I was already under contract, and on day twenty eight waiting for delivery did Colonial's representative, Hope, admit "I will tell you honestly, we have a driver shortage ," which ultimately resulted in a 37-day delay before final delivery. Had I been informed of this reality I would never hired Colonial. Colonial was provided with an accurate room-by-room inventory list on two separate occasions. A professional moving company is expected to calculate square footage and truckload requirements accurately. Had Colonial disclosed that my goods would require two separate trips, and would have to abandon my belongings outside an empty residence. I would have sought another carrier. I emphasized, in three separate conversations with Diana Morillo, and Supervisor Dev, that I bore responsibility for 77 rescue animals being transported 1200 miles. I spent months preparing-purchasing and outfitting a cargo van with cages and supplies to ensure their health and safety in the max planned transportation of 30 hours. I made adjustments to meet Colonial's request for an earlier departure. Loading of the animals began at 3:00 a.m., and all were secured in the van by 7:30 a.m. for Colonial's promised arrival between 8:00 - 12:00. Colonial canceled my pickup without notification. I discovered this only after calling at 1:30 to inquire about the truck's absence. Supervisor Dev returned my call two hours later. He acknowledged the urgency of the situation and promised compensation, later specifying $100 per day. In reliance upon that representation, I attempted to mitigate damages. In reality, Colonial paid only $30 per day. Because the house and rescue facility were already 100% packed and cleaned for my departure that day, and in order to reduce the compounded stress of repeated loading and unloading on the feline nature, I had no choice but to keep them secured in their cages inside the van. Due to Colonial's repeated failures to reschedule my pickup in a timely manner, the animals remained confined in a running vehicle under rising Florida heat for 96 continuous hours. When the crew eventually arrived six hours late, did not finish loading until after 9:00 p.m, and then informing me 200 items would have to remain due to the first load being packed inefficiently, further adding to my stress and delaying my departure. As a result, I was then forced to drive 23 hours straight to Texas, immediately set up the new rescue facility, and complete the five-hour unloading process without rest. In total, the cats endured 121 hours of traumatic confinement directly caused by Colonial's negligence and failure to perform under contract. When this was reported to Colonial's representative Hope she stated "nowhere in the notes could she find the fact I was transporting livestock." This confinement caused observable physical distress in the cats from the stress, trauma, and heat. Upon arrival it was necessary to rehydrate multiple cats with sub-q fluids to reduce symptoms of dehydration, and a week later, the emergency critical care and surgery to implant a feeding tube into an adult to reverse the life-threatening Feline Hepatic Lipidosis triggered by this period of not eating from the stress. In addition three senior cats have not been able to recover, and have steadily declined. I have successfully completed multiple long-distance moves from Missouri to Montana to Florida without any harm for hundreds of felines. The harm caused here is directly attributable to Colonial's failures. In addition, the moving crew damaged my residence, including the entry door, banister, door casings, baseboards, and drywall. When I protested, crew members laughed, and dismissed my concerns stating "A scratch is better than a hole." Such conduct is unprofessional. As of now 7 calls. to Colonial requesting management contact me have been ignored. The documented damages include $2,025 replacement cost for damaged items. Replacement costs of missing items $3,500.
