My ancient very large cedar tree at my summer home in Kingston was badly damaged during the recent blizzard. My neighbor contacted Colonial re tree damage along the waterfront and my tree. Father and Son took down this immense double tree which I learned was actually rotting from the inside to my horror. This tree was well over 70 years old. Colonial Tree just finished removing a fallen tree, a few that weren't in good condition, some pruning, and stump grinding. They left the yard in great condition, even raked down the stump grindings to grade. They worked through all the tasks efficiently and did everything on the quoted price. I am so impressed with Colonial Tree! We had them here to do some tricky canopy raising around some wires and to trim some branches from trees that were already pretty lopsided. When I tell you that this spot on my property went from pathetic and janky to something attractive, I am underplaying their skills. Everything looks tidy but NATURAL, even our sad leaning old ladies. And there was not a leaf or a twig left behind. Were it not for the drastic improvement in how everything looked, you would never know they were here. And the best part? The cost for this whole area was much less than other quotes we got for just the "leaners". We lived in the woods before this house and know how much this kind of work costs to have done right. Very impressed! Just hired Colonial tree to remove a couple of fallen trees in my yard and they did a great job. The price was fair (lowest of 3 quotes) and they scheduled it at a time so my lawn would not be ruined by their equipment due to warmer wet weather. Seems they cared about the customer! I have since found out that smoking while refueling isn't an inherent risk as the ignition point of gasoline is above that a lit cigarette can produce. Lighting a cigarette is the danger around gasoline, not smoking one. read more

This was an amazingly good experience! I was nervous thinking about getting this work done. He removed 7 trees - one of these was a really really huge spruce leaning towards our house. He trimmed and removed trees bordering on three different Neighbors and everything came out just perfect. He came when he said he was would, he cleaned up perfectly and he is a very nice man! We can't say enough about this excellent company. Today I was walking the dogs and my neighbor across the street said that they love them too and it made me remember to put a nice review in for him. Very professional and friendly. They were mindful to take care of my driveway with the large crane they brought on site. They brought plywood to put down since I asked them too. I looked at several other companies for a price but they were by far the cheapest. Owner was really friendly and I could tell he really enjoys doing this type of work. Several neighbors wanted free wood chips, and they got plenty, by the truck full for use in their gardens and yards. Best prices around. I would highly recommend this company. They are truly professional, didn't waste a second to get a difficult job done at a reasonable price even when it was busy for tree service providers because of hurricane Irene's aftermath. First, they had to cut down one tree leaning towards our house and it was blocking the access to their crane truck. One man had to climb the leaning tree and started cutting it from top down with his chainsaw. It would've been difficult just to climb and balance on the tree empty handed, let alone having to hold/operate the chainsaw on it. They all made sure there is no damage done to our property, gently dropping a cut branch. The crane truck came in, and it was all a flawless team work, they made a difficult/dangerous job look absolutely effortless. read more

So these guys have two offices and I think the main one is in Randolph (not Braintree, although they do have an office in Braintree). They do their (free) estimates on Saturday and then do the work through the rest of the week. They came out as they said they would on Saturday and took a look around and gave me what were reasonable quotes (as in, "in the ballpark of what I was thinking"). Two trees, backyard, a bunch of dead branches for $350 and we didn't need it, but we got a dead oak tree estimated -- $650. For some odd reason, we either didn't get call backs from other businesses or they didn't service Braintree. They came back as they said they would (it was about 2 weeks between estimate and service) and they were early. I forgot to leave them a check but they did the removal and I mailed in the check. Would definitely use them again. The person who owned the house before me hired them as well. They are pretty busy as they get a decent amount of business. Estimates are going to be lower for front yard / easier removals and higher for more difficult jobs (to be expected). Very professional and friendly as well. read more

I cannot even tell that the ugly tree from my backyard ever was there and my neighbors have even remarked on how fast it happened and how good it looks. As a working professional I really appreciated the staff telling me when my service would be scheduled and that it was weather dependent. We needed a tree cut up and hauled away that fell on our lawn and driveway from the last storm. During tropical storm Irene my husband and I had a huge 50 foot tree fall on our home. We called Colonial Tree at 12:00 during the thick of the storm to have the tree removed to prevent further damage to our home. We were told someone would be out that day to view the damage and remove the tree. At 3:30 I called for an update, I was assured someone would be out that day. At 9:00 no calls, no show. I left a voice mail requesting a call in the morning with an update. We received a call in the morning stating they are busy but they would make it out that day, probably later in the afternoon. We took the day off of work, and waited and waited. I received a call late that afternoon saying they were busy and could not make it out until Tuesday. Meanwhile I have a massive tree pressing my home inside of my attic. I understand in emergency situations there are many people calling that need service. However, I cannot understand why they would tell us they would provide help and keep pushing us off. They were great and friendly on the phone but their lack of followup and keeping their word could be improved. read more

One year ago I used Colonial Tree and they were great. My neighbors and my Dad had also used them in the past and were very happy with them. This year I called and while the Office staff is very pleasant, the person who apparently is the boss is rude and condescending. I was told by the girls in the office it would be 2 to 3 weeks because they are very busy due to Hurricane Irene. I called back yesterday and got a rude message from Willie saying that he told me 6-7 weeks (not true) and if the weather continues it will be longer. Also the cost is double what it was a year ago. I have been meaning to write a review for these guys for quite some time. Back in June of 2011 we decided to take out a HUGE maple tree, I called several places in the Braintree, Quincy and Weymouth area and got 3 quotes. Willy from Colonial Tree Service came out within 24 hours of the call and gave us an estimate on the spot. They were the least expensive and one of the few places I didn't have to call several times to get someone to answer the phone. We had them come out about a month later (they were very busy being summer time and all) and they did a fantastic job. When I got home from work everything was quite tidy, no mess and a huge tree was gone. During the process our neighbors gutter got damaged, and they went right over, talked to them and made it right, paying for the repair whenever my neighbor wanted to have it fixed. i had three quotes to cut two large pine trees and a limb off another tree. colonial gave me the best price. they gave me a two hour window as to when they would be here. they showed up on towards the end of the first hour. it was a pretty tough job as they had to hoist the trees over power lines. everyone knew just what had to be done. they set up, cut the trees and limb, cleaned up, and were gone in just over an hour. they were amazing. very happy with job. read more
