This motel is inexpensive and the rooms are ok but guy at the front desk was rude to me. When he ran my company card it asked for a pin. I never set one up, so I asked if he could run it as credit and he got a little snippy with me. He held onto my card and told me i need to provide another form of payment. I asked for the card back so I could call the company and he just looked at me until I demanded it back. I finally got it sorted out, got my pin and paid but the whole transaction left a bad taste in my mouth. The room was ok. The bed wasn't super comfortable but it was fine for the night. If you're looking for a cheap place to crash during the summer, it's good for that. I heard, from a few patrons, the Thai restaurant attached to the motel is pretty good. My wife and I stayed at the Colonial Inn in Ellsworth while visiting Acadia National Park. The price was decent, the pool was great, and the staff was super excellent. Friendly, polite, helpful, and all native English speakers. The hotel is old and not fancy, but they keep it nice and clean so I did not mind one bit. My only complaint was that the bed was a little lumpy. read more

DONT STAY HERE......I'm staying with a group of friends and they put me in the small building in the back separate from the main building with the pool and breakfast. Also away from my group ...... I asked the front desk to move me to the main building. He said because I booked through Booking.com he couldn't...... then I get to the room and there is no coffee maker..... call the front desk and guess what he says...... sorry we don't supply coffee makers in the back building..... you'll need to come to the main building in the morning......... again DONT STAY HERE read more

In a word..AVOID. This is a dump. Filthy. The young man working the desk was very kind but the man in 'charge' was very rude. We were on a road trip and originally had booked two nights. After placing our luggage on the nasty carpet, we looked around the room and cringed. Even after pointing out how unacceptable the room was, they refused to refund my money in full. The Colonial Inn at Ellsworth, Maine offered just what we needed for our stay. We wanted a place to stay for a couple of nights with our pup! The bed was comfortable, bathroom was very clean, and the motel offered us quietness at night. It is an older place, and in need, of an update. We looked past this, and, loved the close proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Breakfast was pastries and fruit, plus coffee. Again nothing fancy, but there are restaurants nearby for a full breakfast, if so desired. Staff were very kind, and accommodating, especially, Irving. WiFi was more than adequate, and the tv offered many channel choices. read more

Bait and switch. Not "pet friendly" only "dog friendly". They finally updated their info on Google in the last few days. I have a screen shot from the day they totally screwed us out of our confirmed reservations. Front desk staff (ralph) was unnecessarily rude about a difficult situation, claiming that no hotels on the island take cats, which is a blatant lie. His customer service skills were atrocious to say the least. He could have easily offered to find us another room for the night at the very least. Ended up staying @ 3 different hotels over the course of a week, having to deal with driving a stressed-out kitty between check-in & check-out times. It actually did work out better for us in the end though because I've since come to understand they frequently run out of hot water, and the beds are not comfortable. read more

A descent motel for a short stay, we stayed 2 nights during our visit to Acadia. Overall it is good, friendly front desk person, hot coffee available at the front desk. The room that we stayed was okay, carpet had stain and sticky. During second night stay we had some disturbances due to other guests yelling at the middle of night around 1AM and also room had many spiders, one was about to enter my ear while sleeping on bed however, my spouse saw and alerted me. I think for the price that you pay here, cannot expect the luxury but, yes at least cleanliness and guest comfort is must. I will recommend this place only if it's the last option for your stay while visiting Acadia or near by places. read more

Hello, My husband and I stayed here about two weeks ago, and in the middle of the night, a frame hanging above the bed fell onto us hitting his head. The frame seemed to be stuck to the wall with some sort of weak glue or putty. He had a bump on his head, and it startled us, so I made note of the incident at checkout. All that happenened was a housekeeper coming to apologize for not nailing the frame into the wall. I have pictures of the frame. It was quite heavy, and he has been having migraines since then. I would just like to make you aware because it is not fair that we had to pay to be woken up to literal headaches in the middle of the night. I can send the pictures if needed. When planning our trip to Maine I wanted a hotel/motel that was close to Bar Harbor & Acadia, pet friendly (very fair $10 per night pet fee) and wouldn't break the bank and Colonial Inn checked all the boxes. We checked in last Sunday and were greeted by a very friendly woman at the front desk, within minutes of arriving she had me checked in and handed me a map showing our room location on the side of the building by the Elks Lodge, explaining we were in one of the "budget" rooms. I was initially a bit concerned but as we pulled up in front of our room I could see that they opened up onto a communal porch and was close by the wooded area (great for puppy potty breaks) and bonus points for not having to worry about having "heavy steppers" above us. The room was small but clean and seemed to have been updated recently and the mini fridge was one of the nicer ones that has a separate door for the freezer. The only faults I found with the room were that other than several coat hooks, there is nowhere to hang your clothes and the toilet seat kept coming loose. Although we never needed housekeeping she did check in to see if we needed anything and someone was always available in the building. Ice machines were just off of the main lobby but not terribly far from our room, #144, plus the freezer had it's own mini ice tray and a microwave in the room allowed us to enjoy our many leftovers. The beds were a tiny bit too firm for me but hubby loved them and it was nice to have a storm door to allow in light and fresh air, especially considering how nice the weather was and it was so quiet, never even heard other guests even though they were on both sides of us. Never got a chance to get in the pool but I did check it out and it was really big and the perfect temperature for a quick dip. The main building even had a vending machine filled with heat/eat & go foods in addition to snack and soda machines and there is a restaurant attached to the hotel that seemed quite popular. About 20 minutes from Bar Harbor and lots of restaurant options within a mile made this a perfect fit for us and fine for short stays but when we return next fall for a week we'll opt for a larger room. read more

I stayed here for two nights and I liked it a lot. This place is about 60 years old, and has a pleasant old-time feel. The rooms are kept clean. My room included a TV, refrigerator, microwave and more. The hotel has a small indoor swimming pool. The staff is quite friendly (and knows a lot about what's in the area - they can offer good recommendations). Based on my experience here, I would guess that the negative reviews are from rich people who wanted unnecessary fancy treatment. But I was just looking for a clean & comfortable place to sleep at a reasonable price, and this place delivered. read more

This place puts the "B" in budget...the decor is early 1970's...BUT, it is clean and freshly painted. My room was a suite and honestly is larger than my first apartment...it even had a toilet in the kitchen. If your going to stay here, bring good your own everything. including pots and pans, eating utensils, cups and coffee filters for this micro coffee maker... It is a solid half hour drive from Arcadia, however it is very near everything - Walmart and Home Depot, Walgreens and about anything else you may want. I saved a lot of money staying get here and the added convince of being near the park and the cost makes this a place I'd go back to read more

The room is clean although a little old fashion. But after all it's nice to stay. The staff is nice, friendly and helpful. There is an indoor pool open 9am- 9pm. We checked in about 9pm but the staff said they can open for another 1.5 hour for us. Overall, it's a good experience to stay here. read more

There are very few times in my life that I have dealt with such horrible customer service. Being in the customer service field myself I understand the stresses it brings. I was treated HORRIBLY, in front of other waiting customers. I was charged a ridiculous rate of almost $200 for one night for a room that I considered to be extremely below par. I do not recommend this place to anyone. For the price you can go to the Ramada inn, Vomfort in, Eagles nest or one of the many others Ellsworth has to offer! read more

Booker beware - the front desk does not know what they're doing and they are not clear with their own protocol. They seem disorganized and unsure of what the left hand is doing apart from the right. Make sure you double check your credit card statement after staying there (if you dare to do) to ensure that they don't double charge you. We booked through orbitz, and paid through them, but when we went to check out, we were given two reciepts to sign charging us another $440 dollars. After watching another poor couple struggle with trying to communicate with the front desk for 40 minutes, we were finally able to speak with the front desk. First, they tried to tell us that orbitz did not charge us, but when we showed them our credit card statement showing orbitz's charge and the other pending charge, their tune changed indicating that the charge was a deposit that will not go through. This was a nice sentiment, but our credit card statement showed the second charge was "pending" and waiting for the cc company's approval. The front desk then tried to assure us that they would cancel the charges. When we asked for copies of paperwork to reassure this, at first they refused to do so. After asking for paperwork for a third time, they reluctantly gave us photocopies of the paperwork. Also, beware that their disorganization extends into their inability to know which rooms are occupied and which rooms are vacant. My parents had the unfortunate experience of someone entering their room at 2AM without explanation. No one said anything, opened the door and closed the door. Later we found out that it was the manager checking to see if the room was occupied. No knock or anything. The rooms were mediocre, nothing special, std motel room. read more

Started off with a reservation issue. Got to our "non-smoking" room. However it Was a smoking room for the past 40 years...roughly the same time the carpet was installed. It stunk of old cigarette smoke and cheap air freshener spray. And no windows to vent. My back hurts from the bed and my lungs hurt. I had to cancel my hiking portion of Acadia because I'm wheezing. read more

This place is a dump. As you drive up the business appears to be near full as the parking lot is full of nice looking red cars that appear to not have license plates. The entry and lobby look fairly clean but the rooms are bad. Toe nail clippings on the floor, outdated & stained furnishings, no towels in our room & our neighbors had wet dirty towels on the floor at check-in. If we could have found rooms elsewhere we would have been out of here. read more

I gave this two stars versus 1 because they allowed pets (I have a pit mix which is not always the easiest to find accommodations for) and because the checkin girl was nice. $50 deposit for pets but you do get it back. That's where the good ends. This hotel was gross. Dated- fine whatever I don't care. But this was just plain dirty. Spot on the carpet was inexplicably sticky. Stunk so bad like old building and pee we got a plug in air freshener to try to mitigate the smell. Tub and kitchenette was dirty as well. Bathroom Sink drawers looked like they had someone's beard hairs all over the inside. Long curly black hair in the sink. Dirty towel on the kitchenette counter. And there looked to be some sort of Orkin pest trap under the bathroom sink. Let's pray it was a preventative measure..... I also would like to mention that the owners car collection is out front. All like 15 cars in a parking lot that already doesn't have enough parking. Ok cool show off your car collection... But don't do it at the expense of your customers! We had to walk from the back of the lot to the front in inadequate lighting. In addition to that- if you have enough $$$ to have a giant car collection, maybe you should put it back into your business- like fix up broken cabinets, throw out old stained (and exposed... No bed skirt) box springs. Repaint damaged walls. Again- I have stayed in dated rooms before and they can be cute. This was not cute. At all. The only reason we stayed as long as we did (5 nights) was because there weren't any other vacant rooms in the area close to Acadia. Thankfully we had come for the hiking and not the accommodations. read more

This place is excellent! The room is just your typical hotel room, nothing fancy or over the top, but the accommodation of the staff was incredible! In my lack of sleep from traveling, I booked our last minute hotel room for the wrong date months from the night I needed it. Upon arrival (and realization) the front desk man immediately accommodated me with a cheaper walk in rate than the booking.com rate we had originally booked, and then referred the issue to his manager who gave me a free cancellation the next morning! Extremely helpful staff and accommodating resources, very thankful for kind people like this! read more

If I could give them negative Stars I would we usually stay here at least one or two months every year with our family and this year was by far the worst year we've ever had we got the worst attitude from the front desk manager and all the maids we found toenail clippings on the floor the toilets and nasty the doors are broken you can't take a shower unless tub clogs up to your shins they had the worst attitude I've seen in all my years staying here they're so rotten the other owners and managers were way better this place has really gone downhill since the last time we've been here and that was back in last year of March we've caught them in lies we tried reserving a room for a week but they said it wasn't available so they were going to move us into a different room because that room was taken that we were in and after we packed up all we our stuff we were getting ready to move into our other room and behold we were given the same room key back so they lied when they said it was unavailable tried to get change to do laundry but Dad didn't even want to go get change so I can do my laundry so we couldn't do laundry unless we got traded from the store another vending machine work half the washers and dryers are broke and they don't take $1 bills or coins this place is definitely not worth $120 and night go elsewhere this place is a dump compared to what it used to be I don't think I'll be returning here next year and if I doubt that'll be my first year and almost 10 years that I haven't stayed here sad and sickening there was a manager my name is Tanya and that's when she made you feel like you are wanted it made you feel right at home these people make you feel like you're not welcome here go elsewhere until they get a new staff or people that actually like to do their job and want to do the job instead of these lazy assholes that are here right now read more

Very accommodating and great price for what we got. Living area large but bathrooms very small although we did have 1 1/2 bath which was great because we had a large group. Hotel room door didn't lock, fire alarm wasn't on the wall, phone didn't work, the room reeked of cigarettes, the beds were about 20 years old and felt like sleeping on a box spring. We found a bunch of bugs in our room and the staff simply said "there's nothing we can do about it". The only thing good about this hotel is the pool. We will NEVER be staying here again. read more

I have not stayed here for a couple of years, but when I just recently stay here I enjoyed it immensely. There is now a new owner who was very pleasant and welcoming upon our arrival. As we arrived, we were very surprised at all of the new upgrades that the new owner had done to the place. There were new hardwood floors, new couches in the lobby, and was told that the rooms now had flat screens TV's put into them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool and hot tub was well maintained and enjoyable. The owner is going to be putting a fire place in the lobby which I though would look good. They have a nice pool. The room was large, 2 beds, fridge, free wifi (with no password) and microwave. There's free coffee at the front desk. The bathroom area is too small. The service staff is friendly and helpful. There's no one available at the front desk from 11pm - 5am. There are not enough places to hang towels and clothes. There is peeling wallpaper on the wall of the room. They should always have staff for the front desk. They should enlarge the bathroom area and add hooks on the bathroom door. They should have a coffee pot in the rooms or some sort of microwave coffee. All in all a nice place to stay, but pricy. read more

One word, Dump! As a retired Marine I have been to and slept in poor places but never had I paid for it. A group of 6 made reservations for 2 days while on vacation but checked right back out. The rooms are filthy and smell, the bathrooms are worse and cause concerns of health due to lack of cleanliness. We are not too picky but this place needs to be shut down. One positive; they have great water pressure. My advice is find another place to stay. read more

Room was nice but I had a pet with me. I checked out early and they told me I would get my pet deposit back and they never refunded it. I kept getting lied to and told to wait. Nice location to go to Acadia National State Park. When we entered the room, it smelled. The fan wasn't running, let alone the A/C. We weren't even provided shampoo/conditioner like other hotels that we have stayed at. You get free wifi and coffee. read more

This place was an overall pleasant experience. Very clean, pleasant staff, great price , and clean pool and hot tub. I have hear about some upgrades being done and I must say they did a wonderful job from what it use to be before. They had a wonderful Thai restaurant next door and their fried rice was amazing. They didn't skimp out on their food quantity. I liked the new sign they had outside, and this is what had attracted me to come here as well as other reviews that out weighed the bad ones. I had no problem with the rooms, the place is looking great and I will be coming back with my family during the summer. read more

During an unexpected stay in Ellsworth for a few days, I was told by a local that this motel was under new management and undergoing some cosmetic changes. I took this as a positive sign that it would be an okay place to stay, and the price was right, so I checked in. Big mistake. The front desk clerk was a nice enough guy, although it did seem to take a long time to finally get my room key. Due to the placement of a big honkin' sectional directly across from the front desk, I had to move out of the way of people trying to get from the hall to the front door. On the way to my room I noticed two different carpeting patterns and three mismatched wall coverings...which would have been understandable, due to renovations, except that the very ugliest walls turned out to be the "new" decor. Yep, the hallways are a depressing shade of gray, with hunter green carpeting and horrible fluorescent overhead lighting. Kind of like a prison, I would think. Aside from bad DIY decorating choices, there's the matter of inconsistent internet connectivity. Not exactly a good thing for business travelers. Also there seem to be some unsavory characters staying there, possibly long-term. Overall it just wasn't a comfortable experience. read more
