This is a place for regulars that work around this downtown area in Seattle. If you're a regular here I'm sure you love this place as the atmosphere is comfortable and I really like that this place because it's owner managed. The burgers and reuben is really good along seasonal risotto that changes all the time depending on the season. The beer selection is always good where you don't have a problem finding a beer that suits your palate. They also have vegan selections where if there's someone in the group that's a vegetarian; they will be happy too. I've only been here a few times when I come to the court house. So, I'm not a regular and wouldn't fight the downtown parking to come here. But, if your in the area, this is where I'd go. read more

Let's think about that word "gastropub" for a minute. It's one of those trendy catchphrases that wants to convey more meaningful awesomeness than other words do. Like when people at the office never say "use"--they say "utilize" instead (unless they're headed for the restroom). Pubs with great beer and great kitchens that choose NOT to call themselves "gastropubs" seem more content to let their chefs and bartenders do the talking, and rely less on catchy phrasing on their signage and menus. Collins is definitely in the category of places that build a name rather than trading on one. First, and perhaps most interestingly, of all, this place is located in the Smith Tower. Or jungled in on the same block of buildings, anyway. That immediately gives it a relative urbanity that is in scarce supply in the Emerald City. You just feel like you're going to a downtown spot, and most of the downtown spots worth the name cost a small fortune. Collins is not the cheapest beer bar in town, but it's not the spendiest, either, and when you're downtown, it's nowhere near the spendiest place to eat well. And that's one serious advantage to this place--you really can eat well if you come in for the food. You don't get the sense of it having a dining room at first; it looks like it's all barstools and side tables inside the door. But past the bar there's a sit-down dining area, and there's dark wood everywhere, going all the way back to the restrooms, when it comes time for you to utilize those. It feels nice without insisting that you notice right away that it feels nice. The menu is pretty much soups and salads and sandwiches and burgers and the like, with a few good entrees thrown in. But they're all made well, generally from high-quality, local, fresh ingredients, as far as I can tell. More importantly, the beer list is serious. There are a couple dozen faucets, and they are always pouring good stuff, often good stuff that's hard to get, sometimes great stuff, sometimes stuff you might never see again in your life. The staff is really nice, really chipper and friendly, and they know their stuff well. Seth has done a great job with this place, as he has with Hudson (the food there is slightly more ambitious). I have brought friends, family, professional contacts, beer geeks, dates, and groups of people in here, and everyone has always enjoyed themselves. I hope Seth keeps opening more places. read more

After arriving in Seattle and checking in to our hotel room, the wife and I were so hungry we could have eaten the a$$ end out of a skunk!!! We asked the guy at the front desk "where is a good place to grab a bite and a couple beers". He, without hesitation said "Collins Pub". He gave us directions and we meandered our way up Yesler Street a couple blocks and there it was. Now even though the place is attractively decorated, with a huge window serving as the storefront, my first impression wasn't the best as there was only one other patron in at the time. But it was early on a Sunday afternoon. My wife and I decided to sit at the bar. Our bartender aka, "Joe" was a very pleasant fellow and actually quite funny. After perusing the menu for a bit and after our first drink, we placed our order. I ordered the burger and my wife had a steak salad. Both were absolutely delicious. I have no idea what they did with that burger but it rivals the very best I've ever had, up to and including Umami Burger in the Los Feliz area of L.A. Hit up Collins to have some drinks with friends. When I showed up, my friends had already been there for a while - they were looking at the menu and I know that the waitress/bartender had seen me sit down. It took her like five minutes to come and ask me if I wanted anything. She came back and took my friend's orders, but didn't offer me a menu OR ask if I was getting anything to eat... Okay, cool. 4 stars for the new (and improved) risotto! Give that chef a raise! It's phenomenal! Fresh asparagus, zucchini and peas and micro greens on top and that sauce (that sauce!!!) I wanna lick right off my plate and anything else that's dripping in it! Oh oh oh and the crispy outside of the risotto puck is YUMx10! Don't change it! I'm in love!!! We start here before EVERY Sounders match and the risotto is going to be ordered by me and at least 2-3 others dining with me each time I guarantee! Yep, you got us all hooked! We also noticed that your calamari may have changed too, it's great! But for the LOVE OF BEER please post your beer line up on a chalk board in the back of the restaurant! Really? This pub was on our hit-list for our beer adventure through Seattle. Went in on a weekday for lunch and sat at the bar. We were quite impressed with their taps available (Deschutes, Green Flash, Russian River, etc) and their bottle list. 5 stars for the beers! For food, I ordered the Reuben sandwich which was the best Reuben I have had EVER. The rye bread was toasted and buttery and the pastrami and sauerkraut were just so juicy and melt in your mouth good. My boyfriend ordered the seasme crusted ahi sandwhich which was also good, but not as good as my Reuben :) 5 stars for the food! Service, we sat at the bar and the bartender was pretty slow to take our order and close out. He seemed a little busy but hey, I am on a major beer-hunt in Seattle and my beer taste buds get a bit impatient. 4 stars for the service. And the fruit flies, jeez you pests were everywhere. Serves good alcohol with great bar/pub food. Went with a group of coworkers for a team outing, I ordered the salmon that came on top of mash potatoes. The salmon was good and portioned just right! I have been to Collins Pub a few times, and it's never been much to be too excited about, although everything is decent and reasonably priced, as far as I've experienced. The cheese board, obviously a little difficult to get wrong if Brie is involved, is my favorite. It's $12, nothing fancy, cheap crackers on the side, but on the generous side when it comes to the cheeses, which is important. The artichoke crab dip is a big serving, too, but it was a little too salty for me. Chicken wings are average. Collins Pub. The go to spot before any sporting event. Sure, I could head down to the stadiums and follow the heard of Seahawks or Sounders or Mariners fans into one of those cheap ass disgusting hell holes that has some Bud lite, Natty lite, Gross lite specials. What, you want me to pay you two dollars to funnel 16 ounces of marinated corn and piss water down my throat? No thanks, you'll find me at Collins! An awesome array of great beers on tap from the NW, PLUS a full bar. Sometimes I don't feel like a beer snob (I know folks, its a rare occurance). But if I just want a whiskey or some shots...its nice to go to a place where both are an option. Happy hour food menu is decent. Due to working on third and second avenues for the past couple years, Collins Pub has become a favorite of mine when I have time for a longer lunch with colleagues or friends. It's a great spot if you're looking for a sit-down, casual option for a tasty lunch and/or drinks. During my most recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised to find a robust lineup of local breweries, including Cloudburst--a favorite of mine for hazy IPAs. The waitress was knowledgeable about hazy beers and recommended her favorite, which I ordered and loved. In the past, I've ordered their hot toddy, which is delicious too (and strong!) on chilly days. Sometimes I don't know whether to give Collins 3 or 4 stars, but I lean to 4 because of the beer selection and food. My only complaint here is that sometimes service can be slow. The first time I came we had to wait a while to order and we got our meals before our beer. Almost every time since then I have been alone so I sit at the bar. Generally, the service there is pretty good. I've also come before a Sounders game, which, obviously, is a lot more crowded than your normal afternoon at the bar. Of course, the beer selection here is really good and fairly priced at $5 per pint (depending on the beer, sometimes it's a little more). I also enjoy the food quite a bit. My favorites are the steak salad and burger (both beef and veggie). On the TVs they usually show sports (mostly soccer) and I was able to watch the Olympics while they were on. Collins is definitely one of my go-to lunch spots downtown. Just be aware they get crowded pretty quickly. Right now they have a huge patio set up out front. Good beers, mediocre foods, bad services. It was non-game Monday and the place was sparsely populated, we sat at the outside patio. The server came out with foods for the other table and I signaled her. She mumbled something and essentially ignored me. The other server (clearly the bartender) came to deliver the drink for my companion, and I ordered my drink. He threw the menu on the table and told us to go inside to order. So we did. I tried several beers and they are all very good. Then we both order burgers -- went for the safe choice. I had the side of onion ring and the other sweet potato fries. The burger (medium) was mushy and not really flavorful. It was an average burger. The fries and onion rings were pretty good. I've only been here for lunch, and as lunch goes, it's a little extravagant compared to what we normally do for lunch if we head out as a group of coworkers, but this makes it a great "Friday lunch" after a busy week--it's good enough to look forward to in this manner. The place has a rich feel to it, decorated in dark woods, with a long bar that occupies the front space of the restaurant. The service we've received has always been professional and friendly, and I enjoy their beer selection, which changes frequently. Now this is a Bar/Pub/Place that serves alcohol. The bartender is classic. Nice tap list and cocktail list. Great vibe and friendly patrons as well. Lots of seating but I recommend sitting at the bar. 1st round I ordered an Alamosa plum sour beer and a fried chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken sandwich was so damn tasty and piping hot and seasoned perfectly. The bun was great and didn't fall apart. The first time I went to Collin's Pub, my experience was lovely. It was about a year and a half ago. Six of us headed in there one day and sat at one of the tables. We had a great waiter who provided us with good food, great beer, and awesome service. I had fond memories of this spot... Until last night. After checking out the new art installation at Some Space Gallery, we were in the mood for a beer. We thought Collins would be good since they've got some good beers on tap and a semi laid back atmosphere. As we walked up, we noticed it was pretty packed. We did see a few spots at the end of the bar, so we wandered over to have a seat. We sat down and patiently waited for a 'hello' and/ or a menu.. or just an acknowledgment. Nothing. We sat at the bar for about 5 minutes with not so much a smile. This would have been okay if the bartenders weren't standing right in front of us at the register, running cards, etc. They were working, but I at least expect a 'one sec' or 'I'll be with you in a few.' Okay, fine.. I thought. We'll just wait for a few more until she's not serving anyone and she'll come over. Again, I was wrong. We had more than a few glances from the bartenders working that night.. and we were never offered a menu, a water.. a smile. We ended up walking out, which I never do. I don't need amazing rock star service everywhere I go, I just wanted a beer. Hell, a glass of water would have probably earned them another star. Not the best burger I have had, but pretty damn good. We came here after my friends wedding and my friend said that I needed to try the burger or else he would divorce his wife. I hate to see people break up over stupid crap so I tried the burger. For $10 you get a good sized burger and fries. One of my friends ordered some salmon dish and when it came out it looked different than she remembered. When she asked the waitress about this, she confirmed that they did change it and if she doesnt like it they could return it. Fortunately, she liked it. Very solid beer list with many local drafts. I struggled to pick just one and settled on the Naked City Bing. I had a bowl of the Smoked Salmon chowder and it was excellent. Hearty, flavorful, plenty of smoked salmon. $8 for a big bowl. The service was a bit on the slow side and our soups took quite a while to come out. I always find slow-to-arrive soup puzzling because it's not like they're making the soups to order. They're heating up soups that have been previously made. Service was kind and friendly, however, so no complaints. I would definitely return when in the area. We were here pre-show and it was just right for our needs. Solid neighborhood joint. The dinner menu has many options ranging from seafood, steak, and burgers. Prices are fairly reasonable but could get spendy depending on what you order. I would return if in the area. read more

A nice choice if you're looking for a meat and beer heavy lunch out with your co-workers. I work about 10 minutes from here, but it's been worth the trek the few times I've gone. Service has always been pretty good (speedy, I'm not forgotten) and the dishes I've ordered have been well made. I especially enjoyed the burgers. Many people say "best burger in town" and I don't know if I'd go that far, but it is pretty good. It's 3:30pm on Day 1 of my vacation and I've been up since 4:00am due to the loving flight arrangements of my ever-lovely mother. It's sunny, it's warm, I haven't had lunch and a friend and I are on our way to Ibiza thanks to a recommendation from a local Yelper whom neither of us have met in person (love Yelp!). As we hit the corner and start considering options my friend spots a chalkboard in front of Collins Pub advertising mac-n-cheese. Clearly, Ibiza loses to the joys of gooey warm cheese and carbs! I cannot recommend a better way to start a much needed vacation than spending some time on a sunny patio, sipping a strong beverage and scarfing down the last two orders of a truly excellent comfort food. Beyond the immediate cheese gratification, Collins Pub proved to be a nice beginning for this lovely Northwest city. Attractive space, a pleasant and helpful waitress who was unfazed by us switching tables to avoid sunburn, good food and a decent-sized glass wine list. Dear GOD. I have no idea what band was playing last Saturday night, but they were so awful that my friends were chugging their beers in order to get out of here as soon as possible. Imagine, if you will, 50 sixth graders. Now imagine that they are all in the band room, warming up and goofing around on their instruments before the class officially starts. That was song #1. Beautiful, right? Song #2 featured microphone feedback mixed with gongs. I am dead serious. The two stars go 1) to the bartender who greeted us, filled our drink orders quickly, and notified us that the kitchen would be closing soon in case we wanted food (we didn't) and 2) to the decor of the place - I really liked the interior. Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that I will be back. I have no desire to play russian roulette with the music here. Getting loudly blasted with more experimental music is not a risk that I am willing to take. read more

This is a solid pub with good service and good food. That statement pretty much sums up my various experiences at Collin's. It's close to my office so I go a few times a month for lunch. It's never busy during lunchtime and the food is good. Service - 5/5 The server was eating her lunch as I walked in, she stopped pretty much mid bite to seat me and take my order. She was polite and friendly and had suggestions on what to order, there isn't anything I can complain about here. Atmosphere - 4/5 It's quite during lunch but the bar is clean and well put together. There are plenty of TV's around to watch a game or what have you. I don't have much to complain about here, it just lacks that something magical that I need to give it 5 stars. Food - 4/5 I usually get a burger or a blacked chicken sandwich. They are both solid, very tasty and come with good fries. They good but not the best I've had in the area. One of my favorite bars in Seattle. They've got a great menu *and* a great beer selection ... sweet potato fries and Deschutes Black Butte XX is pretty much my definition of heaven. Please, when you come here, don't have your standard beer fare ... try something new! I organized a geek event here on a Sunday evening where we took over the back area for six hours. The staff was awesomely accommodating and carefully navigated our jungle of power cords to deliver beer and food to 20+ people. This alone gets five stars - but the fact that the beer and food was om nom puts them over the top. read more

Well you see I tried to go to Collins pub at 9 PM on Sunday March 7 only to find the place shuttered. Visiting out of town, we were looking for a bar to grab a quick bite to eat and a couple beers. I agree with the other reviewers who said that the service quality here is totally random, and the only drawback. I've been here 10 to 15 times over the last 2-3 years, twice in the last month, and about 40% of the times the service is terrible and the rest of the time it is okay to good. Sit at the bar if you can. The owner Seth seems like a cool guy, and is friendly with customers, but his staff obviously wasn't chosen for their friendliness or attentive customer service. Once I sat at a table (Collins Pub is seat-yourself) and we waited 20 minutes without even seeing our waiter or being acknowledged. So I went to the bar to get our beers. While at the bar, our waiter finally materialized (the guy with the thick-rimmed glasses) and apparently was all irked that I had ordered beers from the bar (cuts into his tip I guess? Though I would think they would pool tips). So then for the next half hour he ignored us, and I had to call him over to order food. He was like "Oh, you wanted food? I thought you were ordering from the bar." Wow, attitude :) I'm *trying* to give you a tip here man, give me a chance. Anyway, that's the only waiter I've had actually get angry at me over his own inattentive service (where was he for 20 minutes? taking a smoke break?), the rest of the waiters are nicer but sometimes have smaller issues like disappearing for long periods of time or failing to check in on whether you need a refill on water or beer. The good stuff: Their beer selection is fantastic - they get in beers that can be pretty hard to find, and offer it at good prices. For example, Russian River's Pliney the Elder. They also had Deschutes The Abyss last year, and they have a great barleywine festival. The food is a bit pricey for a beer bar, but very good. Also worth noting is they rotate artwork from local artists on the walls, and I often like what they have. 5 stars for beer, food, and atmosphere; 1 star for service; I'll round up to 3 stars. :) read more

This is a really great spot for the after work crowd in the Pioneer Square/Sodo area. I think everyone there when we went either worked on the same block or like us traveled 10-15 min. after work to get there. The "on tap" beer selection was pretty good unfortunately a lot of them were out at the time we were there and the ones that were left, I had never heard of. Still there was a good selection. I would have loved to give this place higher marks, but I can't and here's why. #1 The service- other's commented that it takes a while for you to get served (I thought this was because they have a lot of beers and the server was giving me time to read before coming over, so that was not a big deal for me) so either call someone over to you as soon as you are ready or prepare to wait a little bit. With that, it's not even the reason I am commenting on the service. The reason this is my number 1 complaint is, the server knew NOTHING about the beers. Her response to my questions, though friendly and honest, was: I don't know.... hoppy?, malty?, sour? with some fruit flavors? Meh. #2 The drinks menu has a list of draft beers.... they USED to sell. The list of current draft beers is on the chalkboard in the least visible location in the place. Here's a thought don't print the beers on tap if you know you rotate out quickly and put the damn chalkboard where more than one table can see it! #3 There were no descriptors for the beer on the chalkboard. All I was looking for was a little direction... light, dark, lager, porter, pilsner, malty, sour....I tried asking for help, but see # 1. I would have expected to have been offered a sample or two in a pub like this. #4 No Happy hour? The food was really good, the portion size was a little on the small side for the price, but the speed of it's arrival, the taste/quality and the fact that it was piping hot made up for that. I'd still go back there, but I'll spend some time googling the beers first to decide what I want. I randomly came upon this place searching for something chill to do on a Saturday night, and this fulfilled all my dreams. Huge space? Check. Decent music? Check. Quiet enought to talk to people? Check. Full bar? Check. Huge draft selection? Indeed. What a contrast from eurotrashy Ibiza right next door. The prices are reasonable and the staff is wonderful. Came in here to get out of the rain on a recent night and was pleasantly surprised. The lighting was cool, the bartender was friendly, the menu looked good and the tap list was extensive!! I was really excited to order a limited edition beer from Silver City that I had only seen in bottles. The Mariner's game was on TV and there were some people scattered around watching it. There was a guy sitting in one of the large booths in the back doing something with a stack of CDs and his laptop. Obviously this is a chill place to hang out in. But, I had to update this - I haven't been since they got a new chef and the most recent reviews haven't said a lot of good things about the food - and I don't want my review to be misleading. I did want to note that I was dating the old head chef here and even when I went in to visit him for lunch the servers were STILL rude to me. (They didn't even comp by beer either! I feel almost guilty giving this place such a low rating. It just goes to show you how important consistency is. If every time I stopped by I had great service this is definitely a 4-5 star place. The food is nearly always excellent and they have a wonderful selection of our regions best beer. Sadly it seems that no matter how busy they are service is a crap shoot. I've had both rotten and excellent service here. Sometimes I almost get the feeling the staff can resent the fact they even HAVE customers. They get the two stars for their beer menu. It's very impressive. But, on a sunny day... you should staff your bar better. Service was slow, the hummus we ordered came with 5 slices of pita... it didn't even cover the entire plate. Really sad. It took forever to just get our check and it wasn't even that busy! We had a waitress that knew very little about the beers that they sell. OK, I'm not a beer snob.. but when I'm paying 7 dollars for a bottle of beer... I expect a bit more. Belgium beer has a sense of pride - you have to have the glass that matches the beer. It's part of the experience. Not only did she call out the beer she was serving each of us incorrectly, but she gave the wrong glasses to everyone. I came to Collins around 9 on a weeknight last week with some friends and was very, very disappointed in the service. The bartender was for some reason serving the entire restaurant, ducking out every couple of minutes from behind the bar, even with another server there. We were finally able to flag him down and said that we were ready to order drinks and dinner. After ordering drinks, he walked away mid-sentence as my friend tried to order dinner, started pouring our beers from the tap, and stopped halfway, leaving them there at the tap, as another customer loudly ordered three shots of gin. We had to wait another couple of minutes for him to get back on track. Terrible. It took another few minutes for him to remember that we wanted to order food. The very worst part of being there was overhearing the server swear audibly at the bartender, I assume for not giving the tables outside of the bar area over to her. I won't repeat what she called him here, but it made me blush. The food was thankfully much better than the service- I do like how this place is committed to using local ingredients whenever possible. Don't hurry here for it, though. read more

I have been here on several occasions for its convenient happy hour which features a slight discount from the regular fare. Food is okay, nothing to necessarily write home about but I enjoy the charcuterie plate featuring selections from Salumi just down the street ($10 HH price). The Pioneer Square location does bring some interesting people watching opportunities and recommend the outdoor seating weather permitting. Service has always been very good despite our bumbling attempts at trying to pay the bill with multiple forms of legal tender! Check them out! read more
