Dry cleaning and wash service review. I was told my items would be ready for pickup on Tuesday after 5:30pm. I went at that time and my shirt and jacket weren't ready. I went the following day in the afternoon. It wasn't ready. I went Thursday morning, jacket ready for pickup but not my shirt. I spoke to the attendant and he said the shirt would be ready by 4pm. Very inconvenient. Luckily I live nearby but will not be using this service here again. read more

I have used them many times over the years. I have lived in Cole Valley since 1992. They are the nicest people, they take great care with all of my clothes from laundry to dry cleaning. They are honest hard working and have always done a great job ! read more

This is a review for their alterations, not their dry cleaning which by our experience over the past five years is fine. I took a cotton dress here for a simple alteration. Unhem the top from the skirt and bring up the skirt 3 inches. Reason -- the top is too long on my torso. So, instead, they just went to the skirt and cut the bottom 4 inches. This was after we pinned the top exactly to where it needed to be with safety pins and everything when I tried it on there. They didn't even listen to their own safety pin marks. read more

Went in on Tuesday morning around 8:00 am. Waited until 8:15 am until I was helped. I was told to put on the dress I needed alterations for, so I put it on so he could measure how much to take off. After putting on the dress, he told me that I should measure it since his assistant wasn't there and he didn't know what to do. A typical service would charge $50 for the amount I want taken off, but they wanted to charge me $100. I wish I had a better experience here since they have a great location- but terrible customer service. I would not recommend going here. read more

Wait, I can get friendly counter service AND my clothes will get cleaned? Ooo, this is too good. Others have complained about the prices, but I'm just happy to have my clothes be well-taken care of. (Since I don't enjoy shopping all that much, anything to reduce trips to the stores - e.g. not ruining my clothes - is a marvelous thing.) In fact, Cole Cleaners has removed stains that another cleaner allegedly attempted & failed. This place consistently cleans & presses my clothes well, & with smile. I guess this sounds pretty basic - and it is. But my experiences at other dry cleaners in this city just haven't been able to live up to the basic promise of this business! Cole Cleaners, on the other hand, does a great job simply doing what they're being paid to do: cleaning, pressing, and mending with a professional attention to detail. Minus 1 star for the sometimes slow turn-around. Can be up to 4 days sometimes. read more

I am very disappointed in this place. It is the only cleaners/tailor in my neighborhood (literally 2 blocks from my home) so it is obviously so convenient, but I am not going there any more. As a cleaners it is OK, but as a tailor they always make my pants too short, and I always get into an argument with the woman who does the tailoring about my pants length. Most recently I was in there with 2 pair of pants to be shortened. Every time she shortens them, I ask her to add 1/4-1/2 inch b/c in the past she has made them too short. Again I did it this time. She was clearly irritated with me, and when I changed into my other pair of pants, she disappeared and had her partner (?husband) do my other pair. I was very clear with my instructions and the pants were pinned to be just as I liked them. HOWEVER, I brought them home, and yet again - too short. Maybe I am paranoid, but I believe that she purposely made them too short. Regardless I shouldn't be bullied into making my pants length what THEY want, they are my clothes and I should be able to wear them long if I want to. I wouldn't recommend going back if you want to go to a tailor who actually LISTENS to their customers. Never again. read more

I want to like this place. It's only a hop, skip, and a tiny jump from my apartment so I really, really would have liked this place to be good. But I just can't give them a decent review. Maybe I've been extremely unlucky (and it seems so from all the positive reviews) but I find them to be very disorganized and mediocre at best. First complaint: I brought in some jeans to be hemmed when I first moved into the neighborhood. Hemming pants has got to be the simplest tailoring job ever-- how can one go wrong with a sewing machine. It's a straight line! But when I got the jeans back, one side was slightly shorter than the other and it looked liked someone had nudged the alteration lady's elbow at the sewing machine or perhaps she got distracted by someone waving hello to her at the window as she sewed away ..I am not sure but you can visibly see where she went "off track" with her off white thread. Second complaint: A few months later with the hemming incident no longer fresh in my mind, I brought in my most favorite purple wool coat whose snap had come off at the waist. I brought in the snap and asked her if she could please clean the coat and then sew the snap (which is a weird size and shape so impossible to find) back on. When I picked up the coat, the snap was missing... and they charged me as if they had made the repair! I went home and only later discovered the mistake a week later. When I went back, the alteration lady very cheerily said she had no recollection of any snap. Oh so sorry! They would look for it but doubt it will be found! Was I sure I left it? Yes I was! So sorry!! she very cheerily said. Well, color me screwed I guess. On the positive side, their cleaning is OK... but beware the alteration lady; I think she has a snap loose. read more

I use Cole Cleaners for my dry cleaning needs on a regular basis. They tend to be a little more expensive than their competition, but I'm willing to spend a few extra dollars to save 20 minutes in my day. I have also never been unsatisfied with the work they've done, which is why I bring all of my dry cleaning to them. While reading through the reviews, I noticed that the reviews were stacked in a manner that all but the top review of the top 10 reviews were extremely negative. This looks like one of Yelp's ploys to bring in more business. I completely disagree with this practice. I think Yelp should be impartial when displaying reviews. However, that's just my opinion. Anyways, there are really nice folks working this shop and they do a great job cleaning clothes. read more

Why didn't I read Julia Y.'s review!Took my denim to get hemmed, BEWARE, they want to make them real short here. Suggested that they make it longer. Got them back, the hem is MUCH shorter than what I wanted - AND the line isn't straight. I'm so irritated that I may just buy another pair of denim to replace this pair. The next time I'm spending $10 on hemming denim, I'm just going to Bloomingdales. Honestly, they have the best tailors there. AND they listen to what you want. Damn, now I have to get another pair of denim. read more

Not a fan. I used to live right by this place and actually specifically went back after moving to another part of the city to get a pair of jeans patched up because it was always bustling when I passed by. No niceties were to boot. In a rush, I was expecting to pick up my jeans and go on my merry way. However, the woman couldn't find my jeans. Then, she called her son on the telephone (which she held upside down) who remembered taking the jeans from me, but couldn't remember where he put them. After a whirlwind of running around, she finally found them. Needless to say, my jeans looked exactly like they looked when I brought them in. Ten minutes later, no "sorry for the wait" or anything, just a "okay, $7." All I wanted was to replace the metal button on my jeans. Maybe it was just a one time bad experience, but I think I might shop around a bit and try out some other cleaners. read more

Maggie and the Cole Cleaners folks are quick, do a good job, and are always super pleasant.

I've been coming here for years to get my clothes dry cleaned. Other dry cleaners I've used have not even come close to what Cole Cleaners delivers. I've chatted with the son about how they take care of their equipment, that's why the clothes come back so sparkling and why the prices are set where they are. You get what you pay for and this place is worth it! It's nice to see a local business take such pride in what they do. Alterations can be hit or miss but if you need something simple Maggie will take care of you. Great local business and great customer service! read more

I tore one of my favourite silk tops and debated long and hard with myself to bring it to Cole Cleaners, which is near my home, or the dry cleaning place closer to my work. I decided to bring the top to Cole Cleaners, and they did not disappoint. The owners ere are very friendly and the jobs have always completed on time. Maybe I've been extremely fortunate with their services... amongst all kinds of dry cleaning, the fact that i gave them a very delicate mending job and they handled it well, that's a great sign in my book. read more

I love the couple who runs this joint! They are nothing short of awesome. Most recently, I was on my way to paris for a wedding and then realized AFTER they closed that I forgot to pickup the very fabulous dress I was going to wear TO the wedding. I called them, explained my dilemma and they said no problem - see you in 10 mins. LOVE 'em! And my clothes turned out great! I think I will still go there even if I move out of Cole Valley because customer service this good is very rare these days. read more

Very rude, never own up to their mistakes and deliver mediocre results every time. Never going back!

Been going here for over twelve years. (The past ten years have driven 20 minutes just to go here!) Best cleaners in SF. I love that they put a sturdy piece of paper between sweaters, and that they are wrapped in paper. I even brought in a dress from the 1950s and they did a perfect job. read more

It's a twenty minute walk from my house to this dry cleaners, and it's totally worth it! I appreciate their professional services and friendly demeanor. Once I needed something cleaned in a short amount of time and they were able to accommodate me. I've never had any problems with this cleaners. Top notch service! read more

I don't think it's the cheapest place around, but then again it is SF. It's around the corner from my house, so I guess I pay for convenience. They will also rush things for regulars, and not charge extra. I also like the family element. The mom is always there working... even late at night. What I can't stand is people who set off the buzzer while they're waiting in line. There is a sensor on the outside of the door that alerts them when a customer walks in. If you're just standing, waiting to get inside the door, the buzzer just keeps going off. It's really annoying. read more

I so wish I could write a positive review of this place. The people who own it are super nice and friendly, and it's very close to where we live. Alas, after years of trying to work with them, we finally had to switch. One problem was the cleaning. I got clothes back on more than one occasion that had been pressed, but certainly didn't smell clean. Pressed is nice, but when I bring in clothes to be cleaned, I have this expectation that it will happen. I know, call me unreasonable. The second problem is the damage. They almost always - no, I'm not exaggerating - broke at least one button per bundle of cleaning/shirts we brought in. For laundered shirts with standard buttons this was annoying but manageable. But when the clothes had unusual buttons we often ended up having to replace all of the buttons because we couldn't find new ones to match the old ones.So a trip to the dry cleaner usually ended up resulting in an additional trip to buy buttons, and an evening spent replacing them. Eventually it got to be too expensive - and annoying. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I stored some sweaters in a container with mothballs over the summer, and brought them to the dry cleaners to be cleaned. I've stored them this way for years and drycleaning always makes them like new again. When I brought them to cole cleaners, she accepted them, but then called me 10 minutes later and decided she didn't want to clean them. I walked back to pick them up, and she yelled at me that I had to wash them before she'd clean them. I told her they said "dry clean only," but she didn't seem to care. She said she didn't want the smell of my sweater rubbing off on others in the machine..... she must not have a very good machine. I ended up taking my sweaters to Wash Club (on Stanyan and Waller), who gave dry cleaned them and returned them to me in 2 days in perfect condition! They looked and smelled beautiful. AVOID "COLE CLEANERS" - HEAD TO THE "WASH CLUB"!!!! read more

Just about everything you could ever ask for form a cleaner. Everything was simple and I got my clothes one time!

I went in Monday to inquire about prices and drop off some cleaning. The lady at the front desk was extremely rude when I asked about prices and how long it would take to get my clothes back. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother going there and giving them your business! read more

Would give zero stars if I could. I've been to Cole Cleaners four times and the fourth will be my last. I dropped off a shirt to be pressed only and when I took it out of the plastic two days later to put it on, I noticed that there were three white chemical stains that looked to be splattered on the right sleeve. I took it back to show them the stain (that wasn't there when I took it in). They blamed me and said I must have hand washed the $70 shirt that was dry clean only. I informed them that the shirt had only been worn twice and that I never wash dry-clean-only shirts at home. The old lady started yelling and actually physically bumped my wife out of the way to get behind the counter. She was mean and was quick to blame me, the customer, for their shortcomings as a dry cleaner. I also told her that $4.80 was too much for a press-only job. She said, "I don't know where you're from, but that is cheap." I said, "I'm from New York City and I pay $1.50 for press only." And she mumbled... as I left. I would never go here if I were you. read more

They do an amazing job and are SO nice. I am so glad they are in my neighborhood! Could not ask for a better business.

I won't be returning here. Over my last few visits, I have had 2 articles of clothing come back with blemishes. Recently I had some brand new pants hemmed there. They came back with a big stain at the hemline. I thought it was bleach damage. The manager took a combative stance, and said it was paint. I realized upon returning home that the stain is most likely bird droppings from the cockatiel that roams freely around the work station where my pants were hemmed. Shoddy work and unprofessional customer service. read more

I am going to keep this review simple. If you need your jackets, pants or dresses cleaned come here. For alterations please go elsewhere I just received some hemmed place from this moms and pops and it was a horrible job. I am astounded by the lack of unprofessionalism the hem job displayed. So, that's all I can say! read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I've always had a perfectly pleasant experience getting my clothes dry cleaned by them. But I just had the most bizarre experience with them which will lead me to taking ALL my business elsewhere. Just called to see if they dry clean/service leather bags. The lady who answered the phone told me that they send them out to another vendor. I asked for the name of the other vendor (so I could look them up and do a quick quality check to make sure they're legitimate since I would be sending out an expensive leather bag). The following took place: - The woman insisted she did not know who this vendor was, despite sending leather goods out to them - She did not know where they were located. She did not know their phone number. She did not know their name - but was being extremely cagey/vague about it - She said 'someone else' at Cole Cleaners dealt with the leather goods place, and I asked when I could call back/who I should get in touch with, I was told that the mysterious person was 'never there'. I was not given any answers and was subjected to a barrage of questions below: - I was subjected to a barrage of questions around if I was an existing client and what my name was, how long I had been coming to Cole Cleaners (which I happily provided, but how is that relevant?) - I was yelled at at the end of the phone conversation This was one of the more bizarre conversations I have ever had with anyone. Shocked that this is how they treat existing customers with questions. Lack of transparency and extreme rudeness. read more

MY SHIRT CAME BACK SPARKLING CLEAN. Ok, so I am absolutely not exaggerating when I say I ruined my shirt. I have a white chiffon blouse that I put through the wringer. I'm talking soy sauce, lipstick, makeup, and lord knows what else. I brought my shirt in and they were honest that they might not be able to get everything out. I wasn't expecting miracles BUT when I came to pick it up my blouse was as white as could be. They got EVERYTHING out. So obviously I was so impressed I HAD to write a review.... If you're like me and manage to spill everything on your favorite white shirt, bring it here! read more

DO NOT HAVE ANY ALTERATIONS DONE HERE! That is, of course unless you're mending your favorite halloween clown suit and absolutely NEED a new stripe of flourescent white thread to spiff them up at the hem. I am hella mad. Not only are the seams unveven but the day glo thread makes them look like a home-ec. project gone bad. I don't get it. How hard is it to sew a seam with neutral colored thread? Do they not actually look at the garment before threading their machine? I would take them back and have them correct it if I had any confidence that they could do a good job. Very frustrating. I will not go back. read more

I inherited what us in the industry call thunder thighs from my father. I'm not complaining, they're all muscle and came with a rump that puts j-ho to shame. Anyway, the only problem with my he-man thighs is that I get chub rub and in short order ruin the crotch of every pair of jeans I own. After happily using Cole Cleaners for all of my dry cleaning and shirt laundry needs for the past year I brought in a pair of chub rubbed jeans for repair. I couldn't let this pair go. They fit my body like second skin. After a few days of anticipation I went to collect my jeans. I wasn't so sure that they would come out okay, but upon inspection I was amazed by the job done. A second life for my most cherished pair of pants! Wahoo!!!!! read more

Really nice and honest people -- would have a hard time trusting my shirts elsewhere.

I started going to Cole Cleaners, not for the cleaning, but for the tailoring service they offer. They are fantastic. They altered stuff for me when I was pregnant, hem things, sew on difficult buttons, move around buttons when I can't find a lost button, take in other things just to make them look a bit better. Every single time, my clothes come back looking and fitting better than when I brought them in. I've also used their dry cleaning because it's been easy, one-stop drop off. I will be honest though: the reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because they are a bit pricey. Maybe take your not-so-special things elsewhere-- however, I will say they are worth it for your special items and tailoring. They are very good. read more

These guys are great. The attention to detail, the fact that they seem to remember all their customer's names, the quality and reliability of the cleaning, and even the price - they get five five stars. I have never had any alterations made here so i'm not sure how that goes, but the dry cleaning and customer service was awesome! I had a wedding in a couple of days and the dress I was planning on wearing had alcohol stains all over it from Vegas...I had no back up plan and was a little worried about whether or not the stains would come out. Well, when I went to pick it up a couple of days later the dress looked absolutely beautiful! The man who worked there said that he had to go over it three different times until he was finally able to get it clean. I will definitely go back here, I really appreciated that he took extra time out of his day to work so hard on getting those damn stains out. With all that being said, I would recommend this place to anyone who lives in the Cole Valley area! read more
