Super terrific service and workmanship. We, my wife (Shirley) and I (Richard) brought our son (Joshua) to Cohen optical on 138 east Fordham road to see how the service and glasses would be. Let's just say, they gave him all the tests and examinations necessary. Then they helped us choose what we needed with a full understanding of our options. And completed his glasses within a weeks time. Then, I (Richard) went to them, now that I was satisfied; and received Excellent service as well. What happened next was an extremely wonderful experience. My son came home from school on a Friday; someone had broken his glasses. I contacted Cohens; and they said to come into the store. We went in and were greeted by all the employees. Isabel (Cohens representative) helped us by replacing the frames for us in only 5 minutes of being there. This is what I call a Wonderful service. This may not happen all the time. But I (Richard) have to say, this is where I want to stay with my family and friends. Cohen staff steal in front of me. This is the worse optical place ever. I brought a branded frame, this People used my insurance that covers eye prescription and glasses more than 250.00 and charged me $700.00, on top of all this when they noticed the frame I brought was branded they changed for a fake frame. ​I spent more than $1,100 and they stolen my new branded original frame. When I claim that this is not my frame, they said yes this is the one you brought. I told Cohen staff my branded frame doesn't said "made in china", my frame is from Europe and this company will not sell fake frames. Anyone can go to this store and all their frames are fake frames nothing original. At the end, lesson learned, I will never will use Cohen Optical, no only expensive but they steal in so many ways including a branded new expensive frame. I went to this store and was given the run around about ordering contacts. My prescription is almost expired and I was told they would have to ask the doctor if its ok to order. She said yes, its fine. She was letting me order a 3 months supply. When I was paying out of pocket they were fine to order the contacts. One box for each eye. I told them I would be paying with my insurance and all of a sudden I needed to order a years supply. 450 dollars. My insurance would've only covered 130 dollars of that. I call my insurance and they said no they will cover the 2 boxes. There is no need to buy a years supply. The employee gets on the phone with my insurance asking about copays for eye exams. She gets off the phone and says I need an eye exam which should be free with my insurance, but they charge a 75 dollar fee. My prescription wasn't expired, the eye doctor said I can order and my insurance said they would cover my contacts, but the employee decided she wouldn't place the order. This is my 3rd time coming here and each time its rude employees, a long wait or now trying to charge me extra when she could've just placed the order and let me go. read more

The last time I gave this place a review I gave them four to five stars and that was based off of customer service and hospitality but this time around they are receiving two stars because I don't understand how I paid $400 to have my son's lenses replaced when initially the fine staff at Cohen Fashion Optical told me that they could not repair the scratches on my son's glasses lenses so I would have to get a new pair of lenses and being that I paid for anti glare reflection lenses as well as transition the sum would come to $400 the the same amount it was when I first purchased the lenses as well as the frames which was an additional $200 for the frames which came up to $600 altogether. So I dropped my son's glasses off a little over a week ago hoping that it will be ready in time for Christmas and according to the staff that I spoke to over the phone today I was told that Kathy the manager will not be back until this upcoming Monday and that she was in charge of the repair orders and that she had sent them out... problem is my son "did not" get new lenses on his glasses which I paid another $400 for what the staff here tried to do was Rob me of my $400 by telling me it was all new and replaced and somehow managed to remove some of the scratches but not all of the scratches which was proof right there that I did not receive a new pair of lenses and that these guys tried to remove scratches on the old lenses which they did not do a good job on but I was initially told when I asked if that could be done first they said no and that's why I ordered new lenses.... don't try to rip me off I hate when people do that s*** cuz then they bring out the hood in me and when I go back I'm not going to be as receptive and don't tell me I cannot get my money back if anybody knows how much Opticians charge to remove scratches on lenses please let me know because from what it seems I paid these guys and additional $400 for them to try to remove some of the scratches on my son's lenses so Cathy when you do come back from your Christmas vacation on Monday I will be back in touch with you this is unacceptable and I'm rather pissed the f*** off happy holidays everyone. read more

There is a latin (dominican) lady in the front who is the most obnoxious and unlikable person EVER! She is outspokenly rude and loud, not allowing the person who was actually helping me do her job by continuously interrupting what the young lady and I were discussing with irrelevant remarks and zero knowledge of what was being said. Additionally I have no insurance, I pay out of pocket and spent close to a thousand dollars in this store. She actually tried telling me that Cohens optical Corporate rules are not to give out out pupilary distance measurements which is false. I will never go there again, Cohens on Third Avenue always treats you like a human being and grant every rational request (Pupilary distance measurements and your Rx). I also waited 2 hours to be seen, while there was just one person when I arrived. In addition both my mom and I paid $190 each for transitions but all we have is a light tint. I have called and left two messages, have called 4 times since 9 a.m. There is no answer on the phone and no one has bothered to return my call. Horrible service, very unprofessional and no communication. I came in for an scheduled exam and the wait was 30 mins and the actual optometrist was very nice and professional. She gave me all of my information and told me my contacts were discontinued. I went to the staff and they recieved the information and said they put my order for contacts in and it will be in a few weeks. I get a phone call a few days later saying my contacts were discontinued and I said I know you were supposed to order a different brand. They said please come in to be fitted for a different brand. Obviously I was pissed off but I went in for another visit only to walt an hour and they had a nerve to say ok you're all set. The trials have been ordered. I was like wtf! 2 weeks later I call because I haven't heard anything and they were yes your contacts are here, again I'm like wtf. I have no complaints insofar as the eye doctor that examined me at this new site on Grand Concourse by Fordham Road. I am not accustomed to patronizing terms of endearment ("honey," "sweetheart," etc.). Worse, the SUPPOSED "office manager" is a disrespectful, rude, vitriolic virago with absolutely no understanding of customer service skills or common communication skills or common courtesy; she affirmed, confirmed, demonstrated, proved, substantiated and verified she lacks manners and respect, too. I have no idea how she maintains employment anywhere with her belligerent, cantankerous and uncouth demeanor trying to bully others around her with her big mouth; was she recruited from the Social Services' Work Incentive Program? I'm inclined to believe that the "positive" reviews that appear here were written by the staff members themselves, or their family and friends. Imagine, this female barged into the examination room and yelled at the young Optical Technician, "What the hell is taking you so damned long?!!!" and I told her, "It's not her fault; it's my fault," and she glared at me and said, "I'm the office manager...!" I stared at her and asked, "Who do you think you're talking to, little girl? I don't tolerate your kind of nonsense..." She raised her voice and said, "Sit down!" I responded, "YOU don't give me orders, so how do you pretend to make me?" That's when the doctor appeared and told her to go back to the counter. The doctor closed the door and apologized for the clerk's rude behavior; he examined me; upon looking into my eyes he realized what the problem was and referred me for surgery. Trying to call the corporate headquarters via telephone (516-395-9825) (516-900-3703) is just as futile and useless. I've called upward of 12 times this afternoon and no one answers the telephone, and I do not speak to answering machines. IF they're not interested in hearing from patients, then they're not worth speaking to, even if they are a multi-million a year company. I'd rather go elsewhere and recommend others to other optical clinics/office. I recall going to Cohen's Optical on the corner of 106th Street and Madison Avenue (Manhattan) back in the mid-'50s. Lost my chart twice! I had to get examined over three times within one year because they never updated my files and if they did they lost it, therefore my prescription for contact lenses looked as if it were expired when I know I was there 6 months prior with the same exact problem! They are horrible and I'm beginning to think scam artist. The people at the headquarters of this horrible establishment should realize that when you hire inutile people to work you lose customers. I'm convinced this place would do so much better (in regards to customer satisfaction) if competent people were hired. It's apparent the hiring process is not of importance to this company. So this was the first place I ever bought glasses or contacts at. Imagine little 12 year old me having to sit in the front of the class until having the gift of sight bestowed upon me. Now imagine what it would take for me to give a place that has been essential to my eyesight and overall well being for over a decade a one star rating. I used to love this place! I was so excited to get a new pair of glasses, a new look, and when I turned 15 a glasses free Rob (when the mood struck of course). For as far back as I can remember, even when I was wowing my family with how far I could see (for a quick comparison I can't even see this screen without my contacts now, and super cheesy dad used to call me "eagle eyes", umm lame), I have been visiting this place. My mother's mole comparable eyesight demanded it. If you popped in once or twice you might be thinking what could be wrong with a place that sells designer glasses at a pretty affordable price? And I would say everything but that. The last time, and I mean that in every sense, I went there the staff was incredibly rude, the service took forever, and even the glasses were crap. To understand this there are a few things you'll have to know. First, since I've been going to this place I have purchased what they called "insurance", but was really much more of a membership plan for discounts. Second, I had been away for college for a few years and when I finally decided I had waited too long for a new pair of glasses and a new supply of contacts my mother thought she'd tag along to pay, and I'm no fool. Now when I get there the place has maybe two other people in it, and it takes forever for this woman, who is practically on top of these other customers who clearly want a few minutes to look around, to come our way. After basically expressing that I'd like to see something that wasn't the overly thick, super flashy/gaudy, giant logos on the side moron look that seemed to have devoured the city at the time (circa 2009) she tries and fails to meet my request several times, until we get to possibly the only two pairs that match my criteria. I was found to be "very conservative" because I didn't need giant rhinestone emblems on the sides of my face to inform the public that I bought a decent pair of glasses. While I'm deciding we come to the issue of cost and payment. My mother correctly tells her that we have the insurance. "What insurance?" she says. "The Cohen's insurance." my mother replies. "I'm sorry miss, but I have never heard of any such thing as a Cohen's insurance." she says in that rude tone that everyone in the Bronx is far too familiar with. First of all, don't ever talk to my mother like she is a moron. She has a Master's which is leaps and bounds beyond the GED you had to get in order to work in this place next to the only person at the store who has a degree and his job is to sit in the back and ask: "Is this one better? Or this?". Effectively a glorified sample clerk at Home Depot. Sorry if that offended anyone, I do understand that working on the lenses can actually be a lot of work, but she disrespected my mom and that would piss off anyone. And when she finally realized that we were talking about "that discount thing", the real fun began. She couldn't find any of our family records which were apparently supposed to all be under the same address. If that's the case then there has been a file on at least one member of my family in there since before this woman was born with new information and purchases every few months, whats the freakin' problem? Then after my little adventure with the new creepy backroom doc, I come back out and find that my new prescription for contacts (which they told me was the most common prescription) wasn't in and I'd have to wait a while, and my glasses wouldn't be ready until the end of the week. Ever since my first pair of glasses I had basically same day availability if I can show up just before closing, but whatever they'll call when it's done. After not hearing back for a full week I call them myself, but they aren't ready. I wait a few more days until I show up in person and they find my glasses at the bottom of a very large pile of more recent orders that they had been working on. Because you know, that makes sense. I can't imagine that it's very complicated to devise a system which allows you to fill the orders that come in first. But lucky me, they will be ready tomorrow and I can have my contacts. As far as luck goes in this story I suppose I had it because the next day my glasses were ready, only they didn't have the case. Shouldn't those come with the glasses when they are delivered at the store? Are they selling the boxes on the side for knock-offs? Was I getting knock-offs? Maybe because not 6 months later one of the small non-rhinestone logos fell off, and I've had to repair the nose pieces several times. Never again. Thank God for 1-800 Contacts. Worst experience ever! Avoid at all costs! Firstly I was asked what I do for work? Why do you need to know this? Oh...probably to judge what I can afford or guess what I'm going to spend. I waited around forever until the staff was done arguing. Two people were services who came in after me. Then I was rushed through making a decision. The attendants "recommendation" was clearly the most expensive option (to be fair, all retailers do that). So I made my choice. This is where it leaves the realm of unprofessional and enter into manipulation. I made my choice based on the promise that they would order a frame slightly large then the Versace pair I tried on. I waited over a week, thinking I was waiting for the new pair to arrive. They were the same size as the pair I tried on (clearly they were in house). When I brought this to the manager attention, she asked me to sign the paper work and she would look into it. It was clear she was going to do nothing and was trying to get ride of me. I was told she would look into it and take care of it. I realized it was a futile pursuit at a ghetto,dirty ratchet place. Avoid at all cost! Recently moved to the area. I had an awesome eye doctor back home, and I have never experienced a bad time while at a eye doctor. I was disappointed with the service that was provided and the overall quality of this place. The wait was exceptionally long. The women behind the counter were unprofessional. It was nice that they speak English and Spanish, however I would prefer not to be called "Mami." When I finally was able to meet with the optometrist, she wrote a quick prescription for pink eye, but failed to explain that the redness in my eye was in fact "acute conjunctivitis." Also since I was a new patient, she explained she could not prescribe contact lenses. I understood my eyes needed to be rid of pink eye, but her explanation was plain stupid. She said "since you don't seem to know what your prescription is..." I had given her my glasses, however I guess that was not enough? My new glasses she issued were not the correct prescription. They look nice, but. As for after that encounter, the woman who helped me choose my frames, told me since I was not ordering contact lenses at that moment (even after being told I couldn't wear them) she informed me that she would be "ripping up my eye exam." It was apparently void since I did want to make a purchase. (My insurance covered my frames) I won't be back. I hope they don't mess up someone's eyes. read more

Terrible service. I spent nearly 30 minutes browsing without a single employee asking me if I needed help. A male associate with a Superman tattoo on his right wrist was standing right in front of me, and I sought out his attention for assistance and was RUDELY IGNORED. I called out to him multiple times, loud enough, and he was a complete jerk. He then walked away seconds later. Extremely unprofessional. After I was IGNORED, an employee took notice that I was being IGNORED by her coworker. It took for that to happen for her offering to help me. A very very unpleasant experience. I have been going to this Cohen's for years. They always have great designer frames that are $$$$ . Recently Ashley and Isabel helped me with my purchase. My frames broke in half at nose section. If you arrive to this Cohen's 12 noon is not so busy. But getting back to Ashley and Isabel they helped me pick out my new Gucci frames and I received my Fabulous glasses within a week. Miquel who does the measurements and other technical stuff was able to fit my other lenses with a new frame and Ashley gave me a good $ price . This place is full of scammers. My glasses snapped at the screw and they told me they couldn't fix them and that I would have to buy a new pair. I was skeptical, because how my glasses broke, only the screw needs to be replaced, but I said okay. I have a pair of Gotham frames. They wanted to charge me $150 for them, but that they would give me it to me for $100. They didn't have the color I wanted in stock so they would have to order them and they would be in the store in about 3 weeks. They also wanted me to leave a $50 deposit. I promptly went to the eyeglass store across the street and paid $25 for the exact same brand and color of glasses that Cohen wanted to charge me $150 for. read more

I'll be honest, I agree with many of the reviews stating that some employees can be very unprofessional and give you the run around- a customer service issue that can be fixed with the proper training and a change in behavior on behalf of the employees when confronted with difficult/non-difficult customers. HOWEVER, I will say that the saving grace of this store is Cathy (the store manager). I have been coming here for years and I always have a great experience with her. When I placed an order for my eyeglasses and 3 month supply of contacts, she was very patient with me in helping me choose the frames and was very helpful when I had to return the first set due to the weight of the frames causing me headaches. This Cohen's fashion optical deserves a rating of 1 out of 5. The employees are a bad representation of the business. They are unprofessional in the manner that they speak and handle complicated situations. The store manager is the only one that carries herself in a professional manner. The only male that works in the store I believe with the tattoo on his hand is just a bad employee. He speaks in a very deragotory manner, and isn't helpful. This store also doesn't have a very handful of options for glasses it's very limited. Looking around a couple may be a better option than coming to this location. read more

Saved yourself the mental headache and time and skip this place. They are a hot mess. My eye exam itself was great. The optometrist is friendly, professional and very helpful. That is where the positive notes end. The staff is horrible. They spent half the time gossiping loudly about their personal lives which I didn't mind so long as the actual service was good. Unfortunately it was not; after my exam they refused to give me my prescription which by law they're supposed to offer, not only did they not offer but they refused to give it to me even when I asked. Instead, one of the sales clerks "told me" what my rx was and claimed that it was pretty strong and that I'd needed to wear glasses all day(which contradicted what the optometrist said) so I "might as well buy an expensive pair". Luckily I sensed she was on some nonsense and ignored her suggestion. I picked out a diff pair of glasses. When I came back a few weeks later to pick them up I had to again ask for my rx and it's only at that point I was given my rx which I then saw was literally the lowest possible rx possible. Not the 1.25 the sales lady had told me, not even half that. The complaints go further but this is enough to convey the ungood-ness of this store. Do your research and skip. read more

It's the worst. I went here for a groupon. But before I bought the groupon, I wanted to see what they had. I walked into the store, there we're two customers ahead of me and one lady behind the counter. It took about ten minutes for her to even acknowledge me. After about fifteen minutes she showed me What glasses I could get with the groupon which was for $200 toward frames. She showed me the cheapest ugliest frames. Worst Optical I ever been to. Terrible customer service, Rude employees, and Extremely unorganized. I ordered a pair of $500+ glasses and I didn't even receive the case for them up until 6 months later. I ekpt being told that they would call me when the case arrived but never did. I had to walk in every so often to question them and even then they gave me the run-around. the case given to me wasn't even for my reading glasses but for sunglasses. Cohens optical in the Bronx was my fathers number one choice for many years as well as mine for about as long as I can remember. Not every one there is friendly, Many people have worked here, come and gone But Isabel is a keeper! She's always very kind and Helpful, if it wasn't for her prestige accommodations I don't know how I would feel about cohens. Isabel is really helpful. She is great at helping you get the products you want at price that you need. She works with you until you leave this Cohen's happy and with glasses and/or contacts.
