The donuts are consistently good; dare I say, the best in the city. The staff is warm and friendly, greeting you when you enter and again when you leave; with smiles even bigger than their donuts! The inside is small, but always clean and inviting. Pulling up those large garage-style windows would make the space feel even more open. Their cold brew is flavorful, though I'd love to see them use a lighter roast to cut some of the smokier notes--but that's more personal preference than criticism. And like so many culinary lovers of ABQ, one day the place just up and closed. We lost Yay. Boo! I'm happy to report that we got our sweet treats back, with some sandwiches, coffee and frito pie, to boot. The owner of Blackbird Cafe (a wonderful cafe just a couple blocks away) brightened up the walls and put together a great little spot for a cuppa joe and a casual bite to eat, and get this: No, the froyo toppings aren't unlimited, they're... FIVE CENTS. The first topping is free, actually, but after that -- oh, please, don't fleece my wallet -- five cents each. One nickel. No no, don't worry, I've got the check. Look, toppings selection is limited, so are froyo flavors, but I'm not uppity about my cold treats. Wow, how things have changed! When you visit La Luz, be sure you walk in through the front door, it is amazing. IYKYK. The front door sets the stage for coffee and ambiance. Again IYKYK. Interior is great and was filled with a lot of folks catching up on their computers, which is cool. The patio is really what sets this apart from other true New Mexico coffee hot spots.
