The staff and customers are friendly, and everyone kind of knows each other. They have their own date milk which is delicious. The only true artisan styled coffee around. I ordered an iced cappuccino with whole milk and honey (they only offer 2 milks - whole and a homemade cashew milk). We got our drinks and proceeded to the beach. Sip 1, I started to feel funny and thought there was no way they didn't put whole milk in my drink. 2nd sip, and my whole body began to sweat, throat started to tingle, and I began losing strength and energy. Surely enough, the barista had made my drink with the homemade cashew milk. I'll spare you the details of the proceeding traumatizing events of my anaphylactic shock, but I am thanking the lord I was with people I love, had my EpiPen, and that the ambulance EMTs, and doctors at Bethesda Memorial ER were wonderful and attentive. I would like to acknowledge who I believe was the owner. He overheard my sister run into the cafe to ask the barista what kind of milk was in the drink. After she left the barely-drank drink on the counter and ran out, he chased us down the sidewalk when we were rushing back to our hotel and offered us Benadryl he had on hand. Obviously, he did not realize how severe the situation was and the Benadryl exited my body just a few minutes later, but it was kind of him to do. I am writing this review as both a warning to patrons to verify the ingredients in their drinks before drinking them if they have life-threatening food allergies like me (I obviously wish I had heeded my own advice). I am also writing this as hopefully a wake-up call for the employees of Deke's: food safety is your #1 priority as a food and beverage establishment. You offer only TWO milks. I asked for one of the milks, and you gave me the other, which was a milk made with 1 of the country's 9 major food allergens (tree nuts). This is not a situation of me not liking my drink - this is a matter of life or death. I was lucky enough to be with people I love and have a life-saving medical device at my hotel that I was able to use when my body was being deprived of oxygen and shutting down on itself. Some people are not so lucky. While I am sure you take pride in the drinks you are making, I am urging you to take more care for the people who are drinking them.

DO NOT COME HERE…read more They banned my autistic friend for saying "racial and religious" comments but wouldn't clarify to her what she said. She is literally the nicest person I've ever met and has literally been involved in almost every single progressive cause since I met her back at Columbia. She's hosted interfaith events with Christians and Muslims and Sikhs, worked on homelessness, even was recognized by the White House 2x for her work on homeless students by both Obama's DOE and Trump's DOE, has donated multiple summers time to work with predominately POC communities in Harlem, and we've even volunteered doing hundreds of hours of pro-LGBT activism to help genderqueer and trans people get equal rights at Columbia. But why was she banned? The owner wouldn't tell her. But she did mention that she made (according to the owner) "racial and religious" remarks and said that "we don't talk about those issues here." What racial comments? She's half Latino and one of her adoptive families is Arab/Indian. Nobody in my life, past 10 years, has said she's said anything even mildly offensive. This is why I'm so confused. She also said multiple other people complained about her. What could my 29-yo autistic friend say that was SO offensive to adults in Floridda that they felt they all had to report her? I hope we will find out in the coming weeks as we work with local rabbis and other business officials with the city. Thankfully the person who overheard Esta is coming with me to meet my rabbi in Boca and a discrimination official in two days days and we are going to see what we can do with the recording we have. Sadly, this comes down the human decency. My friend is distraught and is so sad she/we can't come back to the bar. She doesn't want trouble, she just wants to know what she did wrong. As an advocate for the neurodivergent community and my friend of many years, this to me is unacceptable. Please read up on neurodivergent kids and the struggles they face making friends and not accidently being offensive. If she really said anything offensive to someone's face, why not just pull her aside and explain why? Why wait till multiple people complain and then ban her? Not everyone is neurotypical and how is she supposed to fix her alleged behavior if she doesn't know what's wrong. This is really sad because she's been through so many years of therapy since college to even be able to talk in public and now she feels like she should hide. But I will not be taking my business here anymore. And I will be telling all the Jewish and Neurodivergent groups in Boca Delray and Pompano. It sucks because your green apple kratoms are so good. And the new cake is pretty good too. I really don't know what to make of this. After knowing her for almost 10 years and seeing her struggle to make friends, it's almost unimaginable that she would ever intentionally say something negative to someone's face and mean it. She is horrified that she may have offended someone and is traumatized by the whole thing. And you can't even tell her what she did wrong?

I'm a Delray Beach local and just love this place. Luckily, there are still places like this near…read morethe Ave in DB, but they do seem to be slowly disappearing as new, high-end restaurants continue to move-in and masonry modern buildings pop-up everywhere. There's nothing wrong with this, I'm just stating a fact. Delray Beach's booming development is a good problem to have, but there has to be a balance if you want to preserve the character and the town's touted "Village by the Sea" motto. The Coffee District resides in a Florida Vernacular small building across from the Cannery Row town homes where agents and home buyers descend if there's ever a home for sale, which is rare. It serves all your favorites coffee drinks, offers sandwiches and empanadas from local restaurants, but also has a small intimate bar with beer, wine, and mixed drinks, where you can leisurely sip on a beer, chat with others, and watch sporting events on the overhead TV (mostly soccer). You can comfortably sit inside on a super hot South Florida summer day. There's also a few outside sidewalk tables with umbrellas, benches, and a mini cushioned couch with a coffee table, where you can sit and feel un-rushed. This part of NE Second Ave is not as busy as others, but you will encounter many people walking their dogs and electric carts, fancy sedans, motorcycles and mopeds and muscle cars passing by (hopefully not the ones with the obnoxious, ear-drum popping, gurgling exhausts, who likes that?). Oh, and the coffee is great, too!
