I stopped by Subculture Coffee in Delray with pretty high expectations after hearing so many good things, and I'll say right away--the location is really nice. It's in a great spot, and the decor is fun, colorful, and inviting without feeling overdone. It definitely has that trendy, artsy coffee shop vibe that makes you want to hang out for a while. The staff were also super nice and welcoming, which always makes a big difference. That said, the actual coffee didn't live up to the hype for me. I ordered a latte, and unfortunately it was pretty disappointing. It tasted almost watered down, with barely any real coffee flavor coming through. It lacked richness and depth, which is kind of the whole point of a good latte. Because I'd heard such great things from others, I was honestly surprised. I really wanted to love it, especially given the atmosphere and friendly service, but the drink itself just didn't deliver. I might give it another try someday in case it was just an off day, but based on this visit, the coffee didn't match the experience.

This is my go to spot to get work done in the area. They have so much seating throughout. I ordered a strawberry lemonade matcha which I highly recommend! It was so refreshing. The employees were friendly and recommended their favorite drinks. I hope they never get shut down as so many people love this spot. The parking lot can be a bit tight depending on the day, but I am always able to find parking.

Cute little spot with retro vibes - good service and large location. Coffee options are endless and quick. Really loved the atmosphere and got a latte- strongly recommend, good quality

The food, the drinks, the vibe, the parking, the location, the decor, the service, the vendors, events... this place has it all figured out to be one of the best coffee shops in Delray. Kid friendly. Vegan options. Like, so good. Thank you!

This is a cool spot right off Federal Highway in Delray, close to 3rd. I was told that it is know for its breakfast and fancy coffee. The inside tributes motorcycle history, which my bike buddies love. Had an everything egg avocado toast which was delicious. The cashier was able to explain some options I asked about, and I saw staff assisting patrons with bringing food to their tables, which was nice to see. There is seating throughout, including shared round tables. Loved the vibe.

I was working around town and found this gem. There was only one barista but there weren't too many people there. The atmosphere is very edgy and several people seemed to be there relaxing and working. I tried a vanilla ice latte and Argentina beef empanada. The empanada was small but fresh, great for a little snack.

Before I ever tasted a single bean, the name stopped me cold. Calusa. A roaster bearing the name of…read morean Indigenous people -- the Calusa, the ancient shell-mound builders, the unconquered lords of South Florida's mangroves and waterways. People who never surrendered. People whose bones are folded into this very soil. As someone who walks through this world carrying Taíno blood and the memory of peoples whose names colonizers tried to erase, that word hit different. It wasn't a gimmick. It wasn't a logo. It was a declaration -- that this land has a story older than any espresso machine, and somebody here understood that. That understanding alone earned my curiosity and my respect before I'd even stepped through the door. "The name carried the weight of a people who never bent. That's the kind of legacy worth building a roastery around." Then I learned the story behind the man behind the roaster -- and it only deepened my respect. Luis Arteaga came home from serving in the United States Marine Corps and did what so many veterans do: he looked for work. No fanfare. No red carpet. Just a man with discipline in his bones and calluses on his hands, trying to find his next mission in a civilian world that doesn't always know what to do with people like that. He found his way to the original owners of Calusa Coffee Roasters. They saw in him what the Corps had always seen -- dependability, grit, and a willingness to learn. They gave him a job. A floor to stand on. And Luis did what Marines do -- he didn't just fill a position, he grew into something greater. Over time, through sweat and dedication and an unmistakable passion for the craft, he rose to become the owner of the very roastery that once took a chance on him. That's not a business story. That's an American story. A veteran's story. And it's exactly the kind of origin that makes a cup of coffee taste like something more than coffee. CALUSA COFFEE ROASTERS IS A SOUTH FLORIDA INSTITUTION Fast forward to today, and Calusa Coffee Roasters isn't just surviving -- it is a staple. Walk into the right cigar bar on a Friday evening and someone at the table will mention the name. Sit down at the right diner counter on a Tuesday morning and a regular will nod toward that familiar bag. In South Florida's rich, layered, cafecito-and-culture coffee landscape, that kind of word-of-mouth is earned over years of consistency, of showing up, of never letting the cup get small. Luis continues to build something that belongs to this community -- rooted in the terroir of a region as complex and layered as its people. The coffee is exceptional. Bold where it should be bold, nuanced where it earns it. The kind of roast that makes you sit down instead of rushing out. That's no accident. That's someone who respects the craft because he was forged in institutions that demand nothing less than your best. "When a Marine finds his mission in a roastery, every bag he puts his name on carries the same standard -- do it right or don't do it at all." Meeting Luis was one of those moments I didn't expect to move me the way it did. We are both moving through the coffee world trying to build something that means something -- something rooted in identity, in service, in the belief that what's in the cup should tell a story worth hearing. And here was a fellow Marine who had walked a road I recognize: uncertain ground, earned footing, and a refusal to quit. And finally, if you are in South Florida and you have not made the pilgrimage to Calusa Coffee Roasters on Commercial Blvd, you are overdue. Go for the coffee -- stay for the story. And if you're lucky enough to meet the man himself, shake his hand. He earned it in more ways than one. To Luis Arteaga and everyone at Calusa: thank you for carrying a name that honors this land. Thank you for honoring the service that shaped you. And thank you for a cup of coffee that carries the weight of all of it without spilling a drop. Semper Fi, brother. Keep roasting.

This is the first location of The Seed that I've been to, so I'm not sure how other locations compare, but this one was pretty small in general with limited seating inside. Luckily my fiancé and I got there while it was empty, so we were able to choose two of the four bar seats along the wall across from the counter. I had a latte with almond milk and house-made lavender syrup, and we each had a classic croissant sandwich. Latte with house-made lavender syrup: I really enjoyed this. My fiancé described this as a "mix of coffee and tea", which I think was fitting. The lavender syrup sweetened the coffee with light floral notes and the latte was a great balance between herbal, floral, and creamy overall. Classic croissant sandwich: The egg patty was pretty thick, I'd say just under a 1/2" thick. It was packed with bacon and cheese, and the sandwich was toasted the way I liked. The croissant was buttery and flakey, and overall I enjoyed the sandwich. There wasn't anything unique about the sandwich though, it was just a solid breakfast croissant sandwich that was made well. No special sauces or other ingredients. I guess that's why it's the classic. The staff was nice and pleasant, and our food and drinks were made in a reasonable amount of time. I do think the food and drink were a bit overpriced for what it was (our bill was ~$40 for two sandwiches and two drinks), but they say the ingredients are all locally sourced so I'm assuming that's why. Overall, this was a great experience and I'd certainly choose this The Seed over a larger chain coffee shop. Just know that the dollars can add up quickly here!
