Just actually came back from my ACLS an hour ago and here I am ready to write my review! (see, told you guys I would!) 5 Stars and you better believe it! Joe was my instructor for my ACLS course, but he also teaches the other courses as well. The staff were so friendly and helpful too! This class isn't like any ordinary certification class. Why?? Because you don't fall asleep half of the time! Minus the videos of course, which can't help but be boring. Joe keeps you awake and on your toes! He makes the course easy to understand and stresses the importance of teamwork in answering questions in class. Joe knows his stuff and helps you with any questions you might have. He's funny too, which makes the time go by faster. Their place is very clean and I like that they keep the class to a low number of students so you get that one on one help. Mine was a class of 5 people, so it created a great learning environment. To all my fellow RNs: They offer CEU credits as well! They're very welcoming and EVEN have coffee, bagels, muffins, granola bars, and candy for you to munch on during breaks as well. All complimentary of Code 3 Life Support! How great is that?! Parking was easy because it's in a little mini complex with plenty of open spaces. FYI: Google maps directions were wrong. It strayed me north of the 210 freeway when it should be SOUTH. Great place that offers a variety of hours/options, depending on what you need. I'll make it a point to only come here for all my certifications/renewals. The new location is in a perfect spot that's hard to miss (walking distance from Honda of Pasadena). Joe's (the owner) teaching methodology is not exactly orthodox, which is probably why Code 3 is so popular. I'm a firm believer (as are most people) that experience is one of, if not THE best teachers, and his class follows as such. Like the other reviewers have stated, the environment is relaxed, but very hands-on oriented. Come time to run the codes, everyone is ready and things run smooth as butter! Joe is very passionate about his work, and it comes from a good place (wanting to save lives through education). Ever since I found out I was pregnant, had I wanted to become certified in CPR & First Aid. Which parent doesn't? Well, nearly 3 years later I actually got down to signing up for a course. I was a wee bit late! =) I ultimately chose Code 3 because it was within a 5 mile radius, the pricing was reasonable, and lastly, because their website was modern and actually looked reputable (not selfmade, and actually had price & real-time schedules up). On a January Friday morning I drove to Pasadena to be greeted by the energetic and enthusiastic Gary. I believe he said he is a former firefighter, and has a wealth of knowledge. Not a dull moment went by, 9 to 2pm went extremely fast. Gary makes the course fun, and he strives to make it a relatable experience as he pulls for students to share their own experiences and questions. He exceeded my expectations for an instructor this way, as he went above and beyond his call for service (he even kept us an extra hour to show us additional first aid techniques and advice, which was a blessing)! Awesome trainer! He deserves closer to 4 stars but there aren't halves, so I gave the company a 3 star. My organization hired them to come and do FirstAid/CPR training, and they were very good. Joe, who seemed to be the owner? but also a presenter was on fire! Energetic, funny, and knowledgeable. Yeah, he was good- He handled 70 adults very well! His energy and motivation were contagious. Since I haven't experienced other CPR training companies, I wouldn't be able to gauge their approach in more detail. Also since I didn't hire them personally I am not sure how they handle the business end of it. I can assure you though that training was fun! read more

Great location to get your CPR certs done! Location is in a small dead-looking plaza next to the 210 freeway, but the inside is well kept and clean. The employees there are nice and helpful, and the chick who did my cert was definitely passionate about health/diseases (think she was going for a PhD). I have to admit, I wasn't sure how good this place would be because the "curb appeal" isn't great -- a small shop with a tiny entry way on a busy street. Boy, was I wrong. I took the four-hour CPR & First Aid class from Gary, a former firefighter. He was both funny and professional and he answered all of our questions. He was also very thorough and made sure we understood all of the material. I took the 6-10 p.m. class, so there was no time for me to grab dinner after work. Luckily, Code 3 provides coffee, water, granola bars, and chocolate for you to snack on. +1 for that. We had a nice small class -- six people. At the end of the class, we received our certification, which was great. I understand that some other places mail you the certification. Also, there is plenty of parking on the street, so you don't have to worry about that. read more

I had to take a BLS class and so I searched and decided to try this place. The class was $50 and the text book was $15. I was able to come pick up the text book few days in advance which was cool. My session was on a Friday afternoon at 3pm with 4 other students. The class started on time and it was very easy to follow. Gary was so funny and easy going that I didn't feel like I was actually sitting in a class. The best part: he skipped all the unnecessary parts....which saved about an hour. You watch clips of video, listen to Gary in between, try the technique on your own mannequin and then go to the back room to actually test out a scenario as a group...then on to the session for techniques to rescue kids and at the end, a very simple multiple choice test. * Price = average * Class = very easy and fun * Instructor = Gary is awesome! read more

I was already certified and did not need to take this class. However, I had a lot of people in my life that needed to take this class. Some of my friends and family members had no idea what to do, if god forbid, something happens to a loved one. So, I hosted a class and invited them to attend. I had a good turn out. Joe, the instructor was very engaging and informative. He was super funny, took his time to explain, and made sure we understood. My mom was worried that she would be bored in class, but after it was over, she said "I'm surprised that I understood everything and truly loved the class" (this means, Joe too!) ;) lol Everyone else that was in class also gave great positive feedback. This class will prepare you for the worse. If you have children in your life, parents, or anyone that you love (and i'm sure you have at least one person) you must take this class. Recently took a First Aid, CPR and AED certification class and it was well worth it. The class was 4 hours total. 2 hours for CPR and AED training and another 2 hours for First Aid training. It was very informative and captivating. 4 hours sounds like a long time but it seriously passed by really fast. This place is well kept and they have great CPR dummies. I never realized how much force you have to put into CPR. The dummy ACTUALLY lit up with green lights so you know you were performing CPR correctly! I feel like this is great, you know exactly if your CPR could potentially save a life. They provided coffee, tea and granola bars for the long class which was nice. We noticed there were also dog dummies and they offer a pet CPR class! After your training you are provided your certification card. Would definitely recommend coming here. It was cheaper than other CPR/AED training classes I found online and this was very informative and worth while. read more

My FIRST BLS (Basic Life Support) class, which was required for my job application, couldn't have gone any smoother! Our instructor named Kenneth Barone, he was funny and very knowledgeable! Gave us all KEY hints, that were going to be on the exam at the end of the course! The atmosphere and environment, the minute you check-in and sit down, is really stress relieving. You walk in and you're greeting promptly by the front desk, and after you sign your name, you sit down in the classroom. Being as I was the only one taking the class for the first time, while others were renewing. I felt it went a lot quicker! But just because it went quicker, doesn't mean that I didn't learn all that I needed to learn upon BLS/CPR/AED! Ken was just awesome, he cracked jokes, he sped things along, but also made sure that we didn't have any questions before we moved forward! Awesome experience! Got Certified for BLS Healthcare Provider within 3-4 hours! I'd definitely recommend, but also come back to this location, 2 years later, when I need to renew my BLS! Also, I've seen how American Red Cross, or other BLS training facilities charge upwards of $75-$100 for this class. Thanks to AHA's Training Center search, I found Code 3 Life the next city over from me, and with a reasonable price, but of course, cheaper than the other ARC or Training facilities! I came here once many years ago when I was only a nursing student. This year I was determined to acquire my PALS and ACLS again (I had let it expire) and Joe and his staff made it so smooth and easy to register and take the course. Joe (owner and teacher of most classes) is amazing at keeping everyone engaged (because I love naps) and has equipment that is relevant in the material we need to learn. He even had one of his employees go out to get raw eggs so we could practice and see what IO access was like! That was super cool. For an OR nurse like myself--we rarely get to perform IO anything, let alone see what the angiocath even looks like. That was really fun and ultimately both of my classes here for initial certification were super pleasant and worth the money. read more

I came here for the CPR/AED certification last week. There were only 5 of us in the class, and I really feel like our teacher, Joe (who is also the owner), catered the class to our specific needs. I get that he probably teaches for 15 to 20 on average, but his class was just as good with only 5. It's informative, only about 2 hours in length and gets you the paperwork you need to get on with your other certifications. It is nice to have someone teach you the basics of saving a life though! The instructor Joe is aware of how exhausted most people are after work so he make the class extremely entertaining and moves quickly, but not at the expense of being thorough. I took my first CPR class here for BLS Health Care Providers with Fred Selayandia. I had a blast taking this class! Though it was early in the morning, this instructor was very energetic and funny. Purchase of a textbook is required upon taking a class. You can buy it there for $15 or buy one ahead of time. We didnt use the textbook at all in class, but I think it's a good thing to have around the house. Adult and infant dummies are provided as well as the mouth pieces to ensure effective CPR practice. We were taught through a series of videos and Fred was always eager to answer any questions as well as constantly review so that our test taking experience will be a lot smoother. I thought it was really neat how they provide coffee, water, and snacks to keep you awake as well. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend and will be coming back here when I need a renewal! read more

I chose Code 3 based upon their excellent reviews. I am glad that I did. Everything about the experience was great. I enrolled for and paid for the course through their website, which was very convenient for me. The confirmation email contained a link to online supplementary materials that were very helpful. And I appreciated the courtesy reminder email and phone call that they made the day before the course. The course that I attended was the BLS refresher/ ACLS initial combined course. The instructor was Joe and he exceeded my expectations. He was entertaining and engaging throughout, and he went beyond the textbook to help us really understand the "why?" behind many of the things that you do during a code response. He also provided the class with a packet of several pages of material that he has put together based on years of experience. The facility was nice. They are just off the 210 and have a free parking lot. They provided coffee, water, granola bars and some candy for the students to take at any time. Hands down the best kept secret to renew your ACLS, PALS,BLS. I went here for the first time last month because my usual place didn't have a date available before my ACLS expired. I came here because of the very flexible schedule. I am an ER nurse and I work 7p-7a, so it's kind of hard to find a place that can work with my hours. After work I went to 24 hr fitness (down the street on Colorado) to take a shower and change into regular clothes (RVCA shirt and Nike's) and got here in time for class which started at 9:30am. I really thought that after a 12 hr shift I would probably fall asleep in class. I am glad that wasn't the case. Joe, the instructor, is freaking hilarious!! He made the class very interesting and upbeat. He even bought our class, of all guys, some pizza's from next door. He was very informative, explained the important parts of the American Heart videos, and really got everyone in the class involved. He was not intimidating like some places. Most important of all, he really cares about people and hearing him talk about his past experiences you can just tell he's a great guy. I'll be going here from now on for all my renewals. I did the online Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED training (through the American Heart Association) with the skills check done in-person with Raffi of Code3Life. The whole thing was less expensive than the ARC training, just as good, and very convenient for those who cannot yield 4 continuous hours for training. The skills check did not take long and Raffi did not make it tense like some other instructors do. I will see you guys again when re-certification is due! read more
