We had assorted tuna/crab with homemade "chips" appie (sooo good), and then many different roles (the Big Island roll was a hit), eel/avacado/scallion, hamachi, and multiple veggie rolls for our vegetarians. The food is always fresh and so are the ideas. Like the use of lump crab, lemon, pineapple that makes it taste like summer on a plate! They elevate sushi to an art form. The place is very small and stopped taking reservations during the summer. So it's now first come first serve. They open at 4:30 for dinner. The food is the only thing keeping this place open... it's excellent. However... the lady who owns the place and stands at the front is a miserable presence. It's extremely hard to get a table and they don't take reservations. My wife walked in to check the wait and luckily, they had a table. The woman said I need your whole party to seat you. She told her they were waiting outside and she'd go get them, 60 seconds later when we walked in, she had already given away our table. No apology or anything. OMG. This is place has the most outstanding freshest delicious sushi I have ever had!!!!! We ordered dynamite roll and turtle bay roll. I was in heaven! Also had the gyoza they clearly make it from scratch! Or it is a damn good ready made one!! The seaweed salad was first rate fresh. Most seaweed salads other places are slimy weird tasting ! My wife and I just moved to the area and we were so happy we found a sushi place nearby, but we did not expect this! Sushi Is our favorite and we lived in baltimore and throughout the east for many years, this is definitely a top quality place, with small town charm and comfortability, and great prices. The food at this restaurant has always been excellent. We usually have Wesley as our server and he is top notch. Last night we were seated on the other side of the restaurant and had an idiot for a server. She served my wif'e salad and main course simultaneously and brought her appetizer 5 minutes later. This idiot is destined to be in Congress. I waited for 15 minutes for my appetizer and another 20 for my main course. Never again! read more

Even though the frontage looks a bit run down, The offerings are as good as anything you could find in Washington DC. Excellent service too. We had an assortment of sushi, the cauliflower (v good), miso soups, edamame, and dumplings. Really hit the spot and would happily return. This restaurant doesn't look too large from the outside but it has plentiful seating inside. We had a 5 minute wait before seating. The restaurant was quite full with diners. Our first visit tonight did not disappoint. Very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Having so many choices on their menu my dining companion and I over ordered for sure.we started with Hot green tea. For appys we had the tempura green beans which came with a wasabi ranch dipping sauce l. It was delicious! Also had the edamame tempura plate which included veggies , shrimp and a crab stick. This was also very tasty. For rolls I ordered the Philly(smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber), Shrimp Tempura roll, and the Kilauea roll(lump crabneat, tempura crunchies, cucumber, topped with fresh spicy tuna). This last roll was really delicious and I am happy I ordered. We finished with the banana tempura dessert which was very good . They open later in the day and are closed a few days a week. First of all, you can't call me a sushi expert by any means. I see sushi, I eat it, I like it. But that aside, even I could tell that this was some top-notch sushi. My friend and I shared four different rolls. I can't remember which ones they were and one was a daily special, but they were all delicious. Our server gave some great recommendations and he was really cool. Prices seem to be what you'd expect for a sushi place in a touristy area. The place itself is pretty small and the food took a while to get there. We weren't in any hurry so it was no big deal, but this isn't the place to go if you have somewhere to be afterwards. The atmosphere is nice for being a little place inside a strip mall. It wasn't super loud and the restaurant and bathrooms were nice and clean. If you're in the Bethany/Ocean View area and craving sushi, there's no need to fight through the Ocean City traffic to get to one of the sushi places down there. The service experience by the hostess at this restaurant was HIGHLY unprofessional. Upon arrival, I inquired about the wait time, and the hostess seemed to discourage us from dining there from the start. Despite several available tables, she informed us that the wait would exceed an hour, and that food preparation would also take an additional hour. The restaurant was set to close in an hour so this made no sense. When I offered that we would sit at any table and didn't have a preference, her response was notably rude. As we waited, more tables became available. We were the only people waiting at that point so my fiancé approached the hostess to check on the wait time. She responded curtly, reiterating that she had already told me it would be an hour. We were taken aback by her lack of professionalism and, feeling unwelcome, decided to leave. We chose to dine at Masaki in South Bethany instead, where we had an excellent experience with attentive and accommodating staff. Based on our experience at Cocolo, we will not be returning. I would advise others to consider alternative dining options as well if you don't want to encounter a rude hostess that will put an unnecessary damper on your night. read more

We went on Saturday night but turned back with an hour wait, then we went Tuesday and had much better luck. We were seated right away at the bar. We got the chicken katsu which was pretty thick for katsu, but still delicious and crispy. The Philly roll was excellent! We also got a Dynamite roll with crab on it. The crab was really good quality. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area craving sushi. You can call when the restaurant is open and try to make a reservation. If you have a larger party or want to go on the weekend, I would say get a reservation if you can. read more

Cocolo on Garfield Blvd is our go to Restaurant for sushi. We've eaten there numerous times and each meal has been wonderful but last Thursday, the Chef, Yama (?), prepared a really special dish which was served on ceramic spoons. Each spoon had a different fish and incredible sauce. I would tell the him that he should do that offering every week. It was so wonderful. We also had our normal red dragon and one other rolls which was as good. We also had the shami which are shrimp rolls that is to die for. Both Jen and Wes are the best serving staff bar none. They've changed their hours for off-season to be open on Wednesday Thursday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday no longer are Tuesday available. We love this place and we are always treated well by Miuki, who works the desk and reservations. The place to go for real Japanese food! read more

One doesn't usually think sushi when enjoying the sun and surf on the Delmarva peninsula. It is usually blue crab covered in old bay and a case of middling beer. But there is a hidden gem on RT 26 just a few blocks west of the Bethany Beach boardwalk. You have to look closely or you might blow by the entrance. As a landmark, it is the very next business past the Wawa convenience store. First impression, wow! they are so polite and friendly from the moment you open the door. You have a choice of sitting at the sushi bar or a selection of both high top and regular tables. Tables are well spaced so it is very easy to carry on conversations without shouting. Service. The place is small so i don't usually see more than 2 servers working but there is always the host popping around to make sure drinks are full and helping clear and occasionally drop off an order. This type of teamwork makes each guest feel well cared for even when they are very busy. Drink. lovely selection of warm and cold saki. Servers are knowledgeable on the entire list and have an excellent pairing sense. We did not drink from the bar cocktail list but the variety of liquor is brand name and top shelf. I saved Chef Yama for last because, lets face it, its sushi and it all about the product and the preparation. Some of the most creative unique dishes come at you in wonderful presentation, both visually and taste. Here is the key, what ever the Chef Yama is making special that night is what you should always try. Both the appetizers and the sushi will be fresh caught and treated with love and attention that is hard to match. The really cool thing about Yama is that he is mentoring another great young Chef (Lucas) each night. There seems to be a friendly competition between master and student to create the most popular special on any given evening. These are not spicy tuna hand rolls or a flourish on a California roll but rather delicate blends of fresh veggies tucked in with a wide and varied local delicacies. Deconstructed rolls served in miso soup spoon topped with quality caviar, or a giant scallop medallion "cooked" ceviche style with citrus will make your night. If it is not packed, always ask your server if Chef has anything we must try. Getting in...in season, it can be a wait, but all good sushi should be. The hours are early enough that you could sneak in before the rush. Make time for at least one visit on your trip to the shore. You will make at least 2 visits on your next trip. Enjoy read more

This place is hidden gem at DE beach. Every time we go there we are shocked that this tiny inconspicuous Japanese joint exists in countryside beach. Menus are as authentic as they can be and Everything we ordered were very fresh. Especially Mebachi Tuna was so delicious you can't go back to eat yellow fin tuna anymore.
