Wow. Honestly one of those hidden gems you're glad you stumbled across. Coco Curry is tucked into a small Asian plaza off El Cajon Blvd, looks kind of intimidating from the outside, but the inside is clean, calming, and super welcoming. Love the music! We were helped by Leta who gave us a full rundown of the menu and even offered samples of the curries to help us decide, which you don't really see anywhere. That alone made the experience feel personal and made our pick a lot easier. Every sauce is so good and the spice is so deep. She also shared her favorite sauce and curry combos, which was nice. They have a whole sauce bar which was a cool, love the green sauce! Food was delicious, service was even better. You can tell they care about getting things right. We got to sample all of the curry flavors which I thought was pretty unique and it helped me make a choice. I also liked how Leta was very helpful in recommending protein and noodles. What an adorable Thai cafe in addition to the Little Saigon area. They've been open for around 3 weeks now and I've been eager to come! We got to sample their curry sauces before ordering. There are four steps to order: 1. Choose your protein 2. Choose a curry 3. Choose a base 4. Select your side It was a hard decision but the sampling concept helps my indecisive self to make a better decision! I chose the Fried Chicken Thigh with Khao Soi, with a side of Brown Rice and papaya salad. AMAZING combination. I would highly recommend. The fried chicken was cut into bite sized pieces and was fried to perfection. Usually Khao Soi goes great with chicken so I paired those two together. The Khao Soi comes with a garnish of mustard greens (my fave) and some red onion. The side I chose papaya salad and it was refreshing and crunchy! I added some more spicy sauce to the salad to have more flavor. Their Thai coffee is bomb! If you're looking for a mild version of Vietnamese coffee, Thai coffee is the way to go. Their Thai Tea is on the sweeter side as well as the coffee. So glad CoCoCurry has been introduced to the area. The Build Your Own Curry idea is unique and the dishes are prepared thoughtfully. CoCoCurry is a new Thai eatery located just east of a popular pho restaurant in the City Heights neighborhood. There were only a handful of parking spaces marked with pylons and signs that were shared between the businesses in the strip mall. The inside of the suite had countertop, high top, and regular table seating for two dozen customers. The lady owner who was staffing the register was warm and pleasant. She asked if I wanted to sample the different curries to which I gladly agreed. The five varieties were stored in metal containers on display at the service counter like at a gelato shop. A menu sheet described the step-by-step ordering process. The first was to choose from one of five protein categories (vegan, poultry, pork, beef, seafood). There were two to three selections within each category. Next was to pick one of the five curries. Thirdly was to select a base of rice or noodles. The last was to add one side out of seven possibilities. My order consisted of Grilled Pork Steak, Yellow Curry, Egg Noodles, and a Boiled Egg. The food was presented in a plastic takeout container even though I was dining in. The pork steak was a shoulder cut of meat divided into smaller pieces. Carrots, potatoes, and onions were blended in with the mild tasting curry. The soft-boiled egg was sliced in half and placed in a separate well within the container. My only nitpick would be the portion size of the noodles as there should have been more for the price that was discounted 10% for the soft opening promotion. Overall, I gave a rating between four and five stars for my dining experience at CoCoCurry with kudos towards the customer service. read more

This was the first time dining at this small restaurant and it was the previous great Yelp reviews that led me try Coco. This restaurant is tucked in the corner of a small building next to the 7-Eleven, it is easy to miss. Parking is crowded and awkward with only a few available spots for the restaurant and this was around 4:30 pm on a Saturday. When my husband and I walked thru the doors we were met with a welcome smile from the front counter and the aroma of wonderful Thai spices. We told the young man at the front counter that this was our first time dining here and he encouraged us to try all the curries first. All 5 of the curries were different in spice level and taste, but oh so delicious! Our palates were jumping and could hardly wait to try the curry dishes. We chose to eat in and were led to a table in the small dining area. There was a table of 6 already dining when we arrived. We started our meal with 2 appetizers: an order of Crispy Spring Rolls and Cream Cheese Wontons, both served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Both were crispy, light and delicious. Off of the entree menu we chose to "Build Your Own Curry": you pick the meat, the curry, the base and any add-ons you might want. I chose the Crispy Duck, with Yellow Curry, atop Rice Noodles and added on Mixed Vegetables. Hubby chose Grilled Chicken, Panang Curry, atop Jasmine Rice and added on Broccoli. Coco Curry offers 3 spice levels to their curry dishes, Mild, Medium and Hot, we both chose medium and it was a perfect level for the both of us - a little "kick" but not overwhelming. Both dishes had a generous portion, exceptional flavor profile, and all ingredients were fresh - a true delight to our palates. If I could have scored our entree's a "6" I definitely would have! If you don't care for curry they have many traditional thai entree options available. Our friendly server was the owner, and our dining experience was great! Not a mild curry you add pepper flakes after the fact, but a curry MADE hot where the flavors are infused in the curry itself. I thoroughly enjoyed the yellow curry over sliced chicken breast and brown rice with a side of grilled carrots, not to mention the three hot house sauces they offer. The meal cost $15.85 plus tax. There were a lot of good things going on here. First of all, the yellow curry was very well, seasoned, with a mild heat, and delicious. The yellow potatoes and carrots in the curry were tender. The chicken was tender and had that nice grilled flavor, and the brown rice underneath, was properly cooked and had very good texture. The grilled carrots, that I choose from the variety of sides, were very too. Everything was delicious! The hot sauce were great. They are all made in house from grandmother's recipes. I found this place via Grubhub. It's located in a small plaza, next to a 7-11. The decor is very cute, unlike many of other Thai places. Lita (i think that's her name) was very welcoming. She told me that it's the 10th day opening for them. She offered me some curry samples. There are five different types of curry - Khao Soi, Yellow, Penang, Green and Massaman. My favorite was Khao Soi. I ordered Chicken with Penang curry and Thai Papaya Salad and Beef with Massaman and Corn Salad. They were very tasty and salad was refreshing. Lita also offered us free Thai tea and Thai coffee. They were also really good. I really liked her customer service and I will definitely go back again. They did a great job revamping the space and made it welcoming. The service is friendly. You can taste the curry sauces before putting in your order, which was great. From start to finish our experience was well over a 5 star. We found this place by pure accident and we are beyond glad we did. This was our first time there and the level of service we received was exceptional. They have a unique way of ordering, that we have not seen done at many restaurants. The girl who greeted us gave us samples of all the curry's. The first one (don't remember the name but it starts with a p) and the green ones were our favorite ones. They honestly all tasted amazingly, each one with a different flavor profile. We opted to go with the first curry with a rice base and crispy pork belly. This completely blew our minds, each bite was beyond flavorful. Everything paired perfectly with each other. We ordered the coconut shrimp to try with this curry, which was just as amazing. They have a self serve bar with 3 different "sauces" we added the green spicy one to our shrimp and wontons. I am honestly not someone who likes wontons and I usually don't eat them, but the wontons here were delicious. I'm not sure on the filing, but it was fresh and a bit sweet which paired perfectly with the sauce they bring and the green sauce I mentioned earlier. The drunken noodles did not disappoint, I added crushed chile from the serve self bar to make it spiced ( I ordered them spicy too). I was surprised by the grilled chicken breast, it was cooked to perfection and they give you a good amount of it too. This has been one of the best drunken noodles I've had and I didn't feel sluggish after from all the grease. And my personal favorite the mango sticky rice. A great way to end our meal.
