My first visit and I went to the Geer St location. The building itself is very cool and the outside seating area was nice. The brass tacks:
- Coffee: 4 stars; Delicious and the price was comparable for similar coffee shops and specialty drinks.
- Service: 1 star; Ever go to a place and wonder how the people working there ended up in a service-based industry? Like, if you are so bad at dealing with people, why did you pick that particular line of employment? This is that type of experience.
The woman at the counter was in the process of making beverages, so we waited until she seemed to be at a stopping point. ...Only that point never came. I wondered if we were in the wrong spot, it being our first time in the place, so I moved a little further towards the counter opening. Still nothing. Despite facing us, she never looked up or acknowledged us in any way. There were indications of other employees in the back, but they never came out. Finally I made a casual remark about what she was doing, directly to her. She barely glanced up at me, back to her work. Finally I asked if we were in the right place for ordering and she finally stopped to assist us. I completely understand if you are in the middle of something, but at least tell me you will be right with me or call someone else. You know, acknowledge my existence, perhaps when I speak directly to you the first time. We asked a few questions and got lukewarm responses, no personal engagement in any way and the overall attitude was that she couldn't be bothered. I went ahead and tipped over 20% on the purchase, thinking perhaps she was having a bad day and my gratuity might pep her up a bit. Unfortunately it only proved to be a waste of my money. She began working on the coffee and as we were unsure of the layout and functioning of the service, I asked how we would know when it was ready. She was mid-conversation with a coworker who finally wandered out and was all smiles with her (interesting attitude change for people who aren't customers), and told me that it would be called over the microphone so we could hear it outside. So we go out and wait...and wait...and wait... I finally go back in and see our cups sitting on the counter and ask if they are ours, as I had not heard anything called. Same employee, same attitude: "Yeah, it doesn't always work." Are you (*&^%&^ kidding me? I'm on a timed break. I don't have time to wait while my coffee gets cold and I have to gulp it to make it back to work on time because in a relatively dead point of the day, none of the multiple employees could be bothered with making sure I got it. God forbid anyone does more than the bare minimum. Never tip first -- if you experience good service, be sure to reward it on your way out. The icing on the cake? When we were putting our cups away, she was eating behind the counter as she worked. The cardinal sin of food service...eating...on the line. Nice!
Bottom line, I really want to give fewer than 3 total stars because the overall experience was so sour, but I can't fault the product itself. I'm willing to try it again on the coffee alone, but if this employee is any indication of the philosophical approach to service here, the second time could be my last. read more
