EDIT 7/26/2017: CC has responded to our concerns by updating their policy and plans to install signage requiring dogs to be leashed. Thanks Cocoa Cinnamon!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yelp reviews don't allow the less-than sign or I would put a bunch of hearts.
This review is, for some reason, "not recommended," but it should be known that this place does not seem to have a policy that dogs must be leashed/under physical control, and they do not respond to concerns about off-leash or loose-leash dogs.
"Today, there was an adult white man with two dogs off-leash at Cocoa Cinnamon outdoors. One dog he said he only had for a week and appeared to be a Pit. I love pits and think they are sweet dogs, but he had just adopted this dog and had not had time to train it. He had a leash on the dog but routinely dropped it and let the dog wander around, sniffing people and wandering around. A woman of color grabbed the dogs leash and had to hold it for approx. 20 mins. while they talked before he offered to take it back. His second dog was completely off leash and sat under other folks tables and wandered around, causing confusion as to whose dog it was. There were other POC outside who seemed visibly uncomfortable and left and I was visibly uncomfortable and having a meeting with a co-worker. I went inside and explained to the Barista who knows my name the situation with dogs off-leash and he said he could not do anything until they were bothering people, which was confusing because they were clearly bothering me or I wouldn't have said anything. I went outside to try and complete my meeting. The off-leash dogs continued to come to my table and sniff my and my things. I turned to the owner, asked if they were his dogs, and requested he put them on leash. I explained that they were wandering around and coming into peoples space, additionally I explained that many people have trauma around dogs and he doesn't know how uncomfortable he is making folks with off-leash large dogs, especially ones he has only had for one week. He refused to put his dogs on leash, and told me we would have to agree to disagree. I said "word" and turned back around to continue my meeting.
Clearly upset, I wrapped up my work, which I had planned to continue, and left. On the way out I saw another white adult man take his mid-size dog off leash and I warned him that two other off-leash dogs were around the corner and the owner refused to put them on leash and they had been walking around. He said his dog could "handle its own". I said it would be really cool if neither of their dogs could cause issues and be on leash and walked away.
At this point, I went inside and informed the same barista that I was now leaving because I had spoken to the man and he refused to leash his dogs. The barista then said he would talk to the man and I said "it's fine, I'm leaving, I just don't know what else to do.", on the verge of tears.
They need a clear on-leash policy." read more
