    Chicken Katsu Curry Ramen
    Varsha T.

quite literally one of the best ramen that i've ever had. cocoa ramen has such a homey, cozy feel. there are a few tables when you walk in and a short, simple menu. i tried a unique dish that they offered, chicken katsu ramen, and i'm gonna be honest, i was a bit skeptical because i like chicken katsu, but i've never tried it in ramen before. however, they really nailed the broth. it genuinely tasted like i was eating a bowl of chicken katsu with such a strong spiced broth, but in a water-like texture that paired so well with their thin, chewy noodles. they allowed me to substitute the fried chicken for grilled chicken, which was great, and honestly the meal was plenty for dinner. i had no wait on a friday evening, and i would definitely check this place out again. my food was brought out in under 15 minutes, and overall, the dish was impeccable.

Food was pretty nice, and it would not be a bad idea to go again. The service was amazing, and when I couldn't get my soda open they helped me. Place is smaller, but cute.

Overall a really great and authentic ramen spot in Newton! The restaurant was very small and gives great traditional Japanese ramen cart/shop aesthetics. The Miso ramen were quite filling. The noodles were at a good thickness which gives a great balance of starch per bite. The broth was light and heavy at the same time. The pork chashu was packed with flavor and added saltiness to the broth. A great addition! The service was quick and the workers were nice! I visited on an afternoon on a weekend. The place was not packed. Coco ramen is a great place for friends or coworkers to hangout after school/work!

Move to the neighborhood recently and been eyeing on this place for a while. The service atmosphere and the food was good. Desi people out there craving for Maggie - the alternative here is chicken katsu curry ramen.

Great ramen, fast/friendly service. Chicken karagee is also one of my favorites here. Good upbeat music.

This quaint restaurant in downtown Newton was such a surprise. On a Thursday during lunch, it was relatively empty. The service was quick and the food was delicious. This restaurant is also connected to a Thai restaurant, so you can order from both menus if you would like. The chicken Katsu ramen that I got was perfectly crispy and delicious and a great serving size. If you have a party of more than four people, it will be difficult to get seating, so make sure to call ahead. You have to pay for street parking, but there was plenty on Thursday.

Four months ago, I dropped by this ramen shop for a quick bite. For an appetizer, I got the pork cha shu buns which came in a pair. The buns had braised pork, carrots, cilantro, and drizzled with siracha and teriyaki sauce. The buns tasted good but the pork was a bit well done and it was a tad saucy. For entree, I got the tori paitan ramen which came with braised pork, bean sprouts, onsen egg cut in half, bamboo shoots, seaweed, and scallions. The broth was actually pretty good, not too salty. Again, the braised pork was a bit well done but otherwise, it was a good ramen. For dessert, I got mango sticky rice. It was so good! The mango was fresh and sweet and the sticky rice was tasty.

A small ramen restaurant that's been in Newton Centre for quite some time. I ordered on their website for takeout and the timing of my pickup was as expected. The service for pickup was straight forward and easy. I got the clear shoyu ramen, which was very light, but still had all the flavor you'd expect broth to have. The packaging was great since you could pour the entire soup container into the noodle bowl and the seaweed was packaged separately to not get soggy. The noodles were tender, nicely cooked soft boiled egg, and the bamboo shoots added a different texture to the meal. The corn got lost at the bottom of my bowl, but this meal was great for a cold winter night.

I had a great experience at Coco Ramen. I came on a weekday for lunch and it wasn't too busy. The place itself is a bit small, but they spread out the tables strategically. Great spot to grab a casual meal or takeout. The food was prepared very quickly and it was delicious! The tori paitan ramen had a salty broth and wasn't especially strong in flavor, while the spicy miso ramen had a great umami flavor. The half boiled egg was such a treat and was cooked to perfection, and the noodles had just the right amount of chewiness. All the other elements of the ramen were great, with the exception of the corn, which tasted like it might have been canned. I would definitely come back for ramen. I was pretty full after the ramen, but it looked like they had some fun appetizer and dessert options as well.

I was excited to try Coco Ramen in Newton Center based on high online ratings. We started with fried oysters and karaage chicken. The fried oysters were good, crispy outside and juicy inside. The karaage chicken was decent but had some tougher tendon parts. I'd probably order both again. I chose the dirty shoyu ramen with chicken, described as a creamier shoyu ramen. The broth was average, with a large serving of noodles and a good amount of chicken. The noodles were standard packaged yellow curly ones, and the chicken, being a chicken breast, was unfortunately tough. I also tried the chashu, thinly sliced but a bit hard. I sampled both the curry ramen and spicy miso broths, which tasted good but not exceptional. I'm unsure if I'd return, but if I did, I might opt for the shoyu ramen, although I wasn't a fan of the protein choices. They offer a nice selection of beverages, and the service is good, managing to fit a good number of tables in the small space. Overall it's a solid spot but in an area with so many great ramen options, I probably wouldn't come back.

The restaurant is located in a busy area in Newton with ample parking. The restaurant has limited seating, the chairs are on the small side. Each table has bench seating too. Service was good and the staff checked in periodically. I got the spicy miso ramen with pork. The presentation was great and the broth hit the spot on a chilly night. My only complaint is that the boiled egg was cold. There was a good amount of pork and the portion was perfect.

Solid ramen place in Newton center. I believe they share the same kitchen as the Thai restaurant Coconut. The paitan broth is delicious and the ramen noodles was cooked well. The egg was cooked to perfection. Small dining area and the chairs can be uncomfortable. Overall a solid ramen ( wish the pork was thicker and had more of a char taste)

Ramen is affordable and tasty not that salty. Mongo sweet rice is so yum! Environment is clean and staff are very friendly. I would come often!

They have the option of take out too! We got a couple appetizers to try & each got a different ramen. Here's what we ordered: APPETIZERS - chicken karaage - okonomiyaki-styled tater tots - green papaya salad RAMEN - miso ramen - spicy miso ramen - chef's ultra ramen - spicy tan tan ramen Thoughts: I thought the appetizer portions were pretty generous! A lot more than we were all expecting. I was pretty much already full before the ramens came out. Wasn't a big fan of the green papaya salad. It was missing some flavor. We all thought that it would be better if it had some tomatoes & garlic. Didn't seem like they used a mortar to ground the aromatics or anything, since the sauce just tasted like fish sauce and lime. The chicken karaage was okay. Wish there was more sauce to dip the chicken with. Chicken was also on the drier side. The tater tots were the best appetizer of the three we ordered, IMO. If you like takoyaki balls, you'll like this because it has similar sauces + bonito flakes. Ours needed some salt though. As for the ramens, I personally had the spicy miso ramen. It was missing a lot of depth in the broth that I would've liked to see (& taste). I didn't taste any miso to be honest. Salt was needed too. The highlights for the ramen were the chashu & corn. I loved that they used fresh corn! The chashu had the perfect amount of fattiness & almost melted in my mouth. The noodles were nice and chewy. The broth was just disappointing though. For the other ramens, everyone enjoyed the one they ordered. I tried a little of the chef's ultra ramen & the broth was much better than my spicy miso. Btw, the spicy miso ramen is not spicy at all for anyone who is hesitant & cannot do overly spicy foods. The food was a bit disappointing for me. I came in with high expectations with all the good reviews I read beforehand. Not terrible but not great.

What hasn't changed is the consistency. This remains one of the most reliably excellent restaurants in the Boston area, and still one of my all-time top five--while others that once held that spot haven't quite held up. One thing has changed, though: the Ghost of Mary. Scotty, the former bar manager, created what's still my favorite cocktail of all time. When he left, the drink left with him (by mutual agreement), and while he generously shared the recipe with me, I've never quite managed to recreate it at home. It was clearly meant to be made by the expert. That said, Sycamore hasn't missed a beat.
