Daughter had ACP, I had enchiladas and my wife had the chipotle chicken. All meals were excellent. I did have a bite of my wife's lunch and it was spot on. Great chipotle flavor and the perfect amount of heat. Additionally, their rice is very flavorful, unlike so many other Mexican restaurants. Their salsa is probably too 3 I've ever tasted. I would recommend the drinks for the fair prices , the food maybe not , well at least what I got . The carne asada is very salty. If you usually don't do too much salt I wouldn't recommend , maybe stick with the chicken or see if they could do a special request. The rice and beans were okay. The inside is cute , I like the decor but the counter is really close to the front door so if you go to tap pay you're basically crowded in with the people freshly coming in & makes hard to get out. The onions could've been sautéed better. Would probably only come back for the drink specials . Cool place. The service was really nice and checked in on us often. They also made sure we had drinks and chips really fast. The prices were good but I do wish I had more actual meat in my taco. I got the chicken tacos and they seemed so small. The marg was a small but it was a normal sized drink so that made sense why it was $8. The guava was a good one- they didn't have the frozen one, only over ice. Parking could possibly be difficult bc it's one the side of a Main Street but overall not too hard to find. read more

I came here on a Wednesday evening around 5:30pm - and it was super loud. I literally had to "yell" my order to the waitress. The waitress was really nice and prompt. I came to Congo Bongo and ordered the Burrito Gandre, expecting to enjoy a good meal. Midway through eating, we discovered a flying bug with legs and wings in the rice and beans. When we showed our server, she casually went to sit at the bar to chat with a manager who was already sitting there doing nothing. When she returned, she claimed it was just seasoning. I asked to speak with the manager. who turned out to be the same person sitting at the bar earlier. He walked to the back and returned with a cup of seasoning to prove us wrong, despite clearly seeing the bug's legs and wings. He still refused to acknowledge the issue or take responsibility. The lack of hygiene was bad enough but the complete disregard for customer concerns and the unprofessional behavior from staff made it worse. NOT TO MENTION WE FOUND HAIR IN THE BIRRIA QUESADILLAS . 2/4 meals completely ruined and disregarded. 10/10 do NOT recommend. read more

Tried Coco Bongo for the first time today. I had the special fajita burrito (with chicken) and the other person had the fish tacos. We both enjoyed our meals. We visited at lunch time and it got a little busy right after we arrived (we ended up having just enough time during our lunch break to get our order in, eat & pay thankfully - not sure if we would be as lucky once the semester starts back up). One of the things I would suggest they do is remove the flashing/strobing lights towards the back of the restaurant. That was a little much for myself and the other person I was with. read more

Food is amazing everytime. Great variety with the menu. Chips are always extremely fresh and hot. They are always making sure you are never low on drinks or chips and salsa. I do understand that things can be overlooked when you get busy as a restaurant. But when you tell a party of 5 that it will be a 40 minute wait, it is common courtesy to your customers to live up to that. Over and hour and 10 minutes later we are seated, no chips, no silverware, and we all but had to beg to get any refills (on water!). There are very few places that i frequent regularly. Coco Bongo is one of them. The food is always hot and amazing. The margs are the best in Raleigh and the atmosphere is exciting and lively. Coco Bongo is one of the best local spots for happy hours and date nights. This place is so hip and happening right in the middle of NC State. So underrated! While all the other restaurants were turning us away at 9:00 p.m. due to the Covid19 protocols, Coco's waiters welcomed us with open arms and a large mug of horchata after 9:00 pm. While enjoying a date night, we stumbled upon CoCo as we drove past NC State. This is a bustling area filled with college students. There's a nearby cannabis cafe, tattoo and piercing parlor and plenty of cool hipster vibes to sink into. This restaurant features a full bar ! A deliciously huge Menu with plenty of authentic mexican cuisine. There sooooo much to choose from. The customer service here is that of a 5 Star Resort. We were seated immediately and enjoyed some complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a Horchata and they delivered the most beautiful oversized beer mug of horchata I've ever seen in my life ! It was adorned in coconut shavings and caramel ! For those of you who don't know, horchata is a delicious rice and cinnamon beverage. For entrees we ordered the Al Pastor Taco Meal, served with rice and refried beans. My date had the chicken and shrimp Texana. A large tortilla stuffed with gooey cheese, shrimp and chicken. All our food was perfecto. Their Al pastor was sweet, tangy and the cilantro and lime was an amazing combination. I really can't wait to dine here again. Update: I have returned a handful of times and really enjoyed the experience. I was able to order veggie enchilladas with no cheese - making them vegan which is really nice. The drink specials are also worth the hype - love the sangria! I was really excited about some of the food and disappointed by other. The chips, salsa, dip, and tamale I had to start were good! But my entree was a little underwhelming. I would recommend avoiding the beans. I definitely got what I paid for. Reminded me of the Mexican restaurants from my small hometown. They had some great drink specials at the bar that I'll be back to try soon. read more

This was a decent Mexican restaurant experience. It was not the fastest, or best tasting, but still a decent once. I had the BYO combo with a tamale, burrito, and chile rellenos. A few minutes after I ordered, the server came back and said they were out of tamales, so I ordered an enchilada. I would think that if they were out of tamales, the kitchen would have told the staff sooner, like before peopled ordered it. I will say the enchilada was very good, and I would eat it again. With the burrito, I thought the meat filling would be the same as the enchilada, but it wasn't. The burrito meat filling was much saltier, almost way too salty to eat. The chili rellenos was surprisingly good, considering it is just a green pepper stuffed with cheese and cooked. I was really enjoying it until it just slid off the plate and landed on the table as I was trying to cut it. Oh well, that's life I guess. The kids mac n cheese was nothing special, as it looked like boxed Kraft. The steak was a decent size, and had a nice materialistic flavor. The hostess, nor the server asked if I wanted a high chair for my 2 year old, so I had to request one myself. I came here on tuesday for the 99 cent tacos (very good deal everyone should try). however; the tacos were bland with very little seasoning. Disappointing for a mexican restaurant. The guacamole tasted like straight avocado mashed up. No salt and pepper, missing the citrus aspect of real guacamole. Not only was the food mediocre, the service was even worse. The food was improperly made 2 times. I asked for hard shell and received soft shell. My friend received chicken instead of beef. Ordered through Door Dash last night. Got the grilled shrimp soft tacos with rice and beans, cheese dip and cheese. Everything was delicious and fresh. They make a homemade hot sauce that came with and it is HOT. The shrimps were grilled to perfection along with the grilled veggies in the filling. I will definitely order again. read more

I went to Coco Bongo a few times when I was in Raleigh! I enjoyed Coco Bongo. Every time I went to Coco Bongo, I ordered tacos. However, the other menu items looked delicious as well. Coco Bongo has a lot of discounts and special deals for the different days of the week. On Tuesdays they have $1 tacos. The chicken and beef tacos are their $1 tacos. The other tacos are regular priced. I enjoyed the tacos! I thought they were delicious. The cheese was my favorite part of the tacos. They also have $4 margaritas on Tuesdays! The margaritas are good but they taste like juice. I mean they are $4 after all. But I don't mind because I still liked them. The service was always quick each time I was there! I love coco bongo. It's a comfortable place to grab some Mexican food and never ending chips and salsa from some friendly folks. Prices are fair, food is good, service is great. I originally found this place because of their super cheap margarita specials (when they opened) -- they've since upped the prices a little, but $3.99 (I think) on certain days is still cheap. Now, I should start by saying that although I used to live in Los Angeles and have high standards for Mexican food, I did not expect this place to knock my socks off with exceptional, authentic cuisine. I went into this dining experience hoping just for a solid local Mexican joint. First and foremost, thumb UP to free chips and salsa. I am not a fan of those places that make you buy it. Come on! Coco Bongo's salsa is not spicy in any sense of the word but it's good enough. A little sweet for my taste, but it did have a nice cilantro flavor to it. They also have tableside guacamole on the menu but sadly I didn't order it. I was craving a tortilla so I got the Carne Asada Burrito. It comes with cheese sauce and isn't folded on the ends, so you definitely have to eat it with a knife and a fork. The cheese sauce was reminiscent of some sort of artificial cheese, I couldn't pinpoint it. Regardless, it still tasted good, just weird on top of a carne asada burrito -- it seemed out of place. The carne asada (steak) may have been a little overcooked because it was not at all tender. It was a little difficult to cut when trying to eat the burrito. My friend ordered a different burrito that was supposed to just have chicken, but it ended up having steak and shrimp inside of it too. Cool bonus I guess?
