One word.... AMAZING!!! I have traveled all over the states and this is hands down the BEST BBQ I have ever had! Everyone that works there is very friendly and helpful for 1st time visitors. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and onion rings for my side. Those onion rings were simply delicious! I tried a few of their bbq sauces but preferred their original sauce the best. The BBQ doesn't live up to the all hype sadly. I've heard great things about the food here and we decided to try it on a whim. We were greatly disappointed. Both my husband order the brisket, and such a absolute let down. there was no smoke ring on any of the pieces of brisket from his meal or mine which should have as it's the hallmark of great BBQ. It was also cold, chewy and tasteless. I also had the turkey, which was tough and had a bit of smoked flavor. My husband did love his hush puppies and the fried cheese grits were great. The Mac and cheese is dry and basic. I was not a fan of the sauces, most of them were very similar in taste. The bread that was given at the bottom was stale. The pickles were delicious. I will staff was very nice and friendly and it was fast getting our order. However try the ice cream place in the same parking lot, their ice cream is delicious. read more

Cockeye BBQ is reminiscent of a BBQ place in the south more of a store front versus a restaurant. I drove into town looking for the restaurant. If you blinked you will miss it. If it wasn't for the GPS telling me I have arrived it would be difficult to find. I walk in and was greeted by some very friendly people. The place is small for the volume of people that comes in and out. They could easily double the size and keep it packed. I noticed a lot of take out line was a long as the eat in line. You walk in and are greeted. You are handed a paper menu or stand at the counter and order from the board. They do not have waitress that come to your table to take orders again reminiscent of southern bbq places. I ordered the triple meat with turkey, brisket, and ribs. No big secret anyone who knows me knows that I hate thanksgiving style turkey. But I enjoy a good piece of smoke turkey. The turkey at Cockeye is to die for. It was very moist and a great smoke taste. The brisket is was also great. The ribs on the other hand I was not very impressed. Also, the selection of sauces were phenomenal you have everything from vinegar based to a blackberry that was awesome on the brisket. I must have built up a very strong tolerance for heat because I did not feel much heat from the hot. The taste was great and they know how to do hot correct. It has some heat but if very flavorful. I hate places who is hot sauce is nothing but heat and no flavor. For sides I ordered the cheesy potatoes and fried okra. The cheese potatoes where killer. I was also able to get a sample of the greens. The greens were well seasoned with bacon fat. Next time I would do the cheese potatoes and greens. So they do have the traditional bbq house desserts. They look awesome. But they have a creamery on site. I purchased four pints to take home. I purchased the double chocolate, vanilla bean, butter pecan, and peanut butter pie. When I got home I had the butter pecan and it was awesome. This is place is an hour and some change from my house. I would make the journey anytime I have a hankering for bbq. The combination of food and service makes the place five star. There is no way in heck, even the pickiest eater, you could not find something that you would enjoy. You definitely have to bring an appetite. You need to eat from appetizer to dessert and roll out the door in a food coma. read more

A nice surprise on our way home from a flea market. The menu had a lot of good offerings. The sides were varied and we especially enjoyed the corn casserole and fried green tomatoes. The sauces were delicious and accented the meats perfectly. Lots of pops and lemonade highlight the drinks. The portions were generous. The restaurantand bathrooms were clean. The only disappointment was it came up in a search for outdoor dining and the seating is strictly indoors. read more

My husband and I drive a hour to eat at Cockeye BBQ! We love love love this place. The owners are wonderful. The staff is amazing . The food is also amazing. Clean, nice decor ! Since I love plants I love how there's one plant that is growing all over a pipe on the ceiling. They have a lot of cool beers and pop in a bottle to choose from. The deep fried grits is amazing ! Mmm I could eat that all the time. Now there's a ice cream store around on the side to enjoy desert after. I love family ran restaurants. Oh Em Gee. I was driving between Cleveland and Youngstown looking for a place to eat when I spy this restaurant with very high ratings on Yelp. Every single one of those 5 star ratings is deserved. Cockeye barbecue is a great place for at least a dozen reasons. Fast service, owner at the counter processing orders, Friendly and helpful staff, efficient food delivery system, the best brisket I've had in a long time, packed house full of happy customers, charming Decor and branding. I know that's only nine reasons, but if I went back again, I'm sure I could find three more. This is worth the hour drive from Cleveland. If you're looking for great BBQ, this is a place to consider. Tried this place for the first time. Driven by it several times over the past 3 years or so. It's true BBQ. Can't wait to stop in again while I visit my family but I'll grab some to go while on my way back to Cleveland. I didn't see wings on the menu but I see them on reviews so they have them but just not on our visit. I opted for a patty melt - it was huge but not a ton of flavor. Onion rings were bangin...... Typically, our meals take HOOOOOURS to finish, because we are too busy talking to eat in an orderly fashion. With Cockeye, I'm fairly certain you could sit me at a table with Thomas Jefferson, Karl Marx and Issac Newton; I would be too busy eating pork and chicken to hold a conversation. DC doesn't have anything on this BBQ. Lord Almighty is their brisket delicious. And their buttermilk pie is to die for. I brought some back with me so my partner (from North Carolina and Oklahoma) could try it and realize that Hill Country BBQ is only pretty good and somehow it all accidentally ended up missing. Not even the sauce was left. Just smells and memories of the best BBQ I've had. Add in the best ice cream in Ohio and you've got it made. He said the brisket and ribs here were some of the best he's had, and I agree, The meat was so tender and flavorful, but still held together for a nice bite to it. The sauces were all so good, and we bought both their seasoning and rub to take home to Arizona. We also had the hush puppies, Cajun fries, okra, Mac n cheese, and cheesy potatoes- all so good. We left totally stuffed because the portions were nice sized and we couldn't put the forks down! We would have tried dessert or the home made ice cream but we were just too full. We found Cockeye BBQ a few months ago and we are addicted. We can't go anywhere else without wanting to go back to Cockeye. My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich with the toasted bun, but now I've tried the cajin catfish and shrimp and now I'm hooked. They have specials every month, like the tenderloin or mashed potatoes that will knock your socks off. Seriously, you will love this place. The best is the ice cream place next door, which is ran by their son I think, and he is a prodigy when it comes to ice cream. I'll be there tomorrow at 11am for more! read more

First off don't get me wrong this is not a negative review. I thought the ribs could be a little more tender. Other than that everything was excellent. They have many delicious sides to choose from, and many sauces that I have never even heard of but were all sooo good. At least 3-4 different employees came up to us and offered to help with ordering and to answer any questions we had. The food was tasty as hell!!! Highly recommend this joint. We had a craving for BBQ and drove up to Cockeye from Poland as we had heard such good things about them. It was well worth the 30+ minute trip. We each got a 2 meats/2 sides so we could maximize what we tried. Ended up with pulled pork, brisket, sausage and catfish with mac and cheese, cole slaw, baked beans and corn casserole as sides. Everything was really tasty and some of the better BBQ I have had anywhere and definitely the best in NE Ohio. The sausage was the best bite of the 4 things we tried with the pulled pork a close second. Our serving of pork was a little small as compared to the other 3 portions and I really wished it had been a tad bit bigger to share. Of the sides, the beans and casserole were the stars, the other two were good but nothing that you could not get elsewhere. Next visit we want to try the ribs as they looked great! I chose Cockeye BBQ based solely on the reviews of my fellow Yelpers. My wife & I are not from the immediate area & wanted to break free of the chains. We arrived at around 6:30 on a Sunday evening. The exterior of the building doesn't grab your attention but we're here for the food, right? When we walked in, we were promptly greeted by the super-friendly counter staff. Acknowledging we were first timers, the staff went over the menu, daily specials, & explained we were to obtain our beverages, place & pay for our order, then take a table where our food would be brought to us. The price points are average. The dining room is small but clean and decorated in a southern BBQ motif. Even the background music reflects a rural southern charm. Six or seven minutes later, we received our order in carryout containers. I ordered the "2 meat" dinner choosing sausage & turkey. Cheesy potatoes & corn casserole were my sides. The cheesy potatoes were excellent! The sausage has some spice which sneaks up on you. The turkey & corn casserole were a tad bit dry but nothing to get upset over. My wife had three ribs, baked potato & coleslaw. All were very good. The BBQ sauce has a blackberry base which some may find too sweet. Both of us liked it but anyone expecting a Sweet Baby Ray's type of sauce may be disappointed. I wish I had left room to try the strawberry-rhubarb pie. Overall, a good experience! read more

Holy moly, this place is astounding! I tried it for the first time less than a month ago and was totally blown away. My sister and her fiancee ordered takeout for the family and I was having a hard time trying to decide between the pulled pork, brisket melt and turkey, then I saw I could have all three in one with the Barnyard "handheld" sandwich, which is misleading because it was so massive I had to use a fork and knife. It was quite a challenge to put it all down, but I somehow managed to finish it on top of the onion rings I had on the side. The portions are very generous in relation to the price and I wouldn't be afraid to call this the best barbeque I've had in northeast Ohio. Highly recommended, went here on a Saturday night right around 5pm there was a line about 3 feet from being outside and the seating area was pretty full... this is a good sign!!! Decided not to eat in and just do take out. I had 2 meat and 2 sides (pulled pork and brisket) and it was fantastic! Sides were great too... everything tasted homemade; as if you were out at a family members home for a cookout and everyone made their best dish. The absolute only problem was that the meat had some sauce on it.
