When I walked in, I was hit with the smell of cigarette smoke. They apparently have a smoking section that is separated from the non-smoking section by a swinging door. I don't think the door was doing its job, I immediately smelled smoke and smelled it as I ate. So, I sat as far away from the smoking section as I could. There were maybe 3 tables seated, and 2 more walked in while I was eating. I was the only non-regular. Every other patron knew both the waitresses and they acted like they'd known each other a long time.
My server was very friendly, she immediately brought me an ice water, a menu, and some butter/jelly. I perused the menu, which includes the basic breakfast options you would expect, and decided on a scramble with eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, and gravy. I got the gravy on the side and added home fries.
My breakfast took about 8 or so minutes to arrive. It was definitely fresh, everything was hot. In fact, the home fries were so fresh that the larger pieces of potato weren't cooked all the way through and were still too crunchy. This was a plate of the the most basic breakfast food possible. I'd be surprised if the biscuits were homemade, they seemed too perfect in their size and shape and too dense to be homemade. But, I could be wrong. The eggs were fine, the sausage was overdone and the bacon was fine. The home fries, in addition to not being cooked completely, were not seasoned well and only had a couple of pieces of onion and pepper. I hit them hard with salt, pepper, and hot sauce. The breakfast was cheap ($5.99), but you get what you pay for I suppose.
The gravy was above average, easily the best part of the meal. First of all, you get a massive bowl. I didn't even eat half of it. Secondly, while it was a little thinner than I prefer, the consistency and flavor was spot on. Very creamy and peppery. No issues with the gravy.
Service was great, both women were very friendly and prompt. But, the food is just so below average I had to give Favorites 2 stars. I think it must have a strong following of regulars, because it's always got at least half a dozen cars out front when I pass it on the way to work. Were I to return, it probably wouldn't be for some time.
