There are few things in this world that are perfect. El Azteca has created such a dish. The "Queso Cangrejo" (Queso cheese, salsa picante, pico de gallo, and real deal crab) is amazing in it's own right, with their house made chips, and wash that down with a Pina Jarritios. I guarantee you will be in bliss. The Chile Relleno's, Jumbo Burrito are fantastic. Another one of my favorite's from there is the "Camarones Vallarta" You get about 15 huge garlic shrimp on a bed of lettuce and rice, mixed with pico and queso cheese. Their refried beans are also the best I've ever had. The house made salsa is pretty good too. You get a pretty damn big portion for the price. They have take out and you get exactly the same amount as if you were to eat there. This place is authentic as you can get. oh my god....i have been coming to el azteca for years...at least 10. what happened to the couple that owned this place? the couple with the little boy who would run around and help you eat your chips. wow this place went down hill. i just had lunch there. the beans were so watery you could not pick them up with your fork. the rice was bland. the relleno was so greasy i had a puddle of at least a 1/2 cup of grease on my plate? even the salsa was bad. the queso con greajo which was my favorite was also runny and watery. the waiter, which we have seen for years was rude, uncaring and the only one there...what a shame...what a mess...what a mistake...and when we paid he actually added up in his head quickly what the tip was and made a rude comment...we shouldnt have tipped at all but left him 15% anyway. we will never be back...such a shame....i have been there too many times to count...never again. read more

There is a time when shit and meat mix and this is that place; I went with a school trip and the chicken enchiladas, the refried beans were old and had a thick crust layer, and the enchiladas had a weird sauce on them. My family had lunch here while exploring Philadelphia. Service: We were promptly seated and had our drinks within 5 minutes. Our waiter was friendly and quick to keep drinks filled as well as getting any extras we requested. Food: My children thought they had the best queso dip (and that says a lot because they have dined at several Mexican restaurants). They did not care for the ground beef in their tacos and commented that the meat tasted weird. I had one of the vegetarian combinations and was overwhelmed with the portion size. I am big into Mexican food. I guess this is authentic (since the staff seem like they are from Mexico) but its just not good. I ordered a cheese and beef dip that was bland and so watery that I couldn't eat it with my tortilla chips so I took my spoon and ate it like soup after dumping the salsa into it to give it some flavor. The chicken dish had a funny taste and was oily. The rice tasted old and was flavorless. The yogurt was sweet, it tasted like store bought yogurt with sugar added. The place looks like a dump and their children were running around outside kicking a ball into the glass door, repeatedly even after their (father?) asked them to stop. When I went to Azteca I had lots of hopes for this place but it really disappointed. When I think of mexican food. I think of flavor, spicy, cilantro, yum. That was definitely not the case here. I had ordered the Jefe Especial. It came with a beef chimichanga, quesidilla, rice, sour cream, and lettuce. HORRIBLE. I couldnt even go past 3 bites. It was so bland, the rice was mushy, the chimichanga was mushy and a little cold. We're regulars here and probably get our chicken chimichanga fix twice a month. Creatures of habit, we don't deviate much but the soft chicken tacos and beef enchiladas have hit the spot many times. Usually start with the white cheese dip. Yummy! Salsa and chips are always good; smooth blended, flavorful but not hot. Creamy refried beans are always dip worthy.
