This was our first time dining here. Let me tell you it was a great experience and we will be back. They accommodated our party of 12 rather quickly. They took our drink orders and brought our chips and salsa. After the drinks were served they took our orders and the food came out about 20 minutes after. Everything came out really fresh. My son and I had our first experience at El Azteca last weekend. Surprisingly it was not overcrowded as we were seated immediately. The customer service was welcoming and the food was great. I ordered the birria tacos which were amazing and filling. I washed it down with my favorite drink, horchata. He had the taquito platter which he enjoyed. my husband and I stopped by here for dinner maybe a year ago and it was so good but I felt the need to come here and rave about it after stopping in to get take out last night-- they now have a full bar with an excellent drink menu!! I sat alone and had two regular margs (and some complimentary chips and and salsa!) while waiting on my take out (I asked they hold the order til I was closer to being ready to leave lol) and it was so nice. Perfect classic margarita!! My American style chicken tacos were awesome and so dank I had to save one for later (order of 3 and they are a good size!) my husband said his steak California burrito was banging and we both loved the Mexican fries. And they gave us more complimentary chips and salsa! Can't beat the price point for authentic fresh Mexican food the bill was under $60 before tip. You feel welcome as soon as you come in with beautiful smiles. The family business transports you quickly to the warm atmospheres of Mexico with warm tones and energetic art decorations at each seat! The salsa is outstanding and you can't get enough of it. The chips are fresh and crunchy. I tried the chicken soup and it didn't disappoint. The Birria is out of this world though! So fresh and delicious with deep tomato flavors. The fresh cilantro and onions add a beautiful layer of tanginess and rich flavors. The service is amazing and very friendly. OH MY GODDDDD I LOVE THIS PLACE! Even though they changed to this new location, I have been eating at their restaurants since I was a child. I promise you that you will not regret it if you eat here. Warning !!! Do not eat food from here....me and my bf got food poisoning from this spot yesterday. The beans was spoiled and he even mentioned it to the server and manager and they didn't do anything about it but smile and charge us. The rice was over cooked and tasted old we also mentioned this it was so bad we didn't touch it from our platter at all. I wish I took a pic of our pics at the ending of us trying to eat. They need to close down the shop to be honest they barely had any customers, you could even tell they aren't doing well to not have their liquor license but they allow byob. They charge for candy at the front 25 cents for mints when they should be free after eating the horrible food. The cheese crab dip made me go straight to the bathroom even after a few bites... I should have know this was a red flag. Me and bae was so hungry because we were fasting we pushed through. Lilian the server tried to be nice but you can tell she wasn't even happy working there. We passed this place a few times and noticed not that much traffic and now we see why. Our horrible meal came out to 70$ for a low class Mexican restaurant this was disappointing. For my platter platillo Jalisco I received a few shrimps and mos def not a ribeye steak it was a cheap flank steak that was drowned in cheese sauce and a bunch of onions, peppers and mushrooms...Again the rice was basura!!!! The jumbo fajita that bae got he literally did not touch anything but the quesadilla and he didn't hold his tongue. I'm still in disbelief that the manager asked how it was and we were honest and he did nothing but cheese...like was this purposely done???? The entire day after our stomachs were in pain...we were vomiting and I had such a bad taste in my mouth, even today being the next day I had to get medicine for my stomach and we both can't even fathom ever going back to this spot. Please beware! I wouldn't wish this restaurant on an enemy just close it down and try again, maybe new management...a new cook or nothing at all. Will never ever come back here ever again. I'll start with placing the order, super easy and efficient way of ordering online! I ordered like 20 meals for coworkers at my job and everything was ready within 30 minutes of placing my order. The lady even called me to get clarification on a order so they made it correctly! The food was Phenomenal, and they had freshly bagged tortilla chips! Just a FYI the Birria Taco's aren't like the ones melted on the grill, the birria meat is put in a container and then they give you the corn tortillas on the side. But they were still so good and flavorful! All the ordered were correct and correctly bagged so that was a relief to me when needing to divvie up food to my hungry coworkers! Nice new clean Mexican food spot in NE Philly we went to on a whim the other night I've been wanting to try since we saw it was opening. We were welcomed right away into a completely renovated restaurant (for those who remember the old Pizza Hut, you won't even recognize it). The service was very nice and welcoming, even made some good suggestions; oh and you are welcomed right away with chips and salsa (you know that's a good sign ;) ). My mom had the chicken quesadilla platter and she really isn't big into Mexican food, but she is adventurous to try this and she enjoyed it. I had the Jefe Especial with a Chicken Quesadilla and a beef enchilada (I think) and it was really good. Only think I wish was there was more cheese inside the quesadilla but it was STUFFED with chicken with was nice. Oh and we got churros to go which were good, just wish there was more than 4 small churros for the price. They are working on getting their liquor license so when that happens I know I'll be back to enjoy an ice cold margarita with my meal. read more
