Quesadilla and Chimmy order

Really enjoy this place! I have lived here for almost 25 years and have gone since I was a kid. Always has been reliable, and this type of Mexican & tex-mex crossover has gotten harder to find. Not here though! The dishes are large, the attention from the staff is genuine, and the vibes are perfect. I really enjoy that you can get just about any combination of Mexican food that you want here. Very thankful this kind of business exists! Will be recommending to others.

Not too many folks eating lunch on a Saturday, so we did not feel the lack of staff too badly. This simple Mexican joint is near the Jersey Turnpike. The stewed chicken in the taco salad and quesadilla was flavorful, but overcooked, and overloaded with juice. My enchiladas verdes were fine, but lacked pizazz. Cocina Aztecs is best classified as fine, not great, just fine.

Fajitas de Camarones

Popped in to this BYOB on a Saturday afternoon and was seated immediately. The decor is vibrant and kitschy! Service was friendly and food was served fairly quickly after ordering! Loved how big the servings were as I was able to take the rest home for lunch the next day - I had the shrimp fajitas and my dining companions tested our nachos and the biggest quesadilla I've ever seen! Totally with a visit if you're in the area!

I associate Mexican food with bright, fresh flavors - lime, cilantro, heat & spices. My dinner had huge portions but unfortunately, almost completely bland. The appetizer of guacamole was $5.25 and came in a small bowl with the tiniest fleck of cilantro with no discernible flavors. The carnitas arrived on a huge platter and had the best flavor for $14.50. The restaurant is tired and needs refreshing. Music was loud from the speakers then they turned on the TV when more diners arrived. You know, sometimes the best Mexican food comes from hole in the wall places, cooked with love. Not so much here.

I've been by El Azteca (now Cocina Azteca) so many times over the years, but never came and ate here. They have take-out, or you can eat in and BYOB (so we came in with a couple six packs). No wait to be seated on a Saturday evening, either! Chips and salsa were brought out pretty quickly, and tasted really good! A bit of mild heat to the salsa, and chips tasted freshly made. Our water was also brought quickly, and refilled without us having to ask (or even really being low on water). I ordered the enchiladas verde without the meat. They didn't come with beans or rice, but they did come as a count of four. First, they brought me the wrong order (it wasn't verde, and had chicken), but then when I mentioned this, they brought the correct order super quickly). My fiancé had the jumbo burrito, and man was that thing huge! He actually didn't finish it, which never happens (though he didn't feel well the rest of the night, and thinks maybe the meat was undercooked?) My only other complaint was that we saw a girl coughing her head off on the way out, and she was waiting on tables and refilled our chips. Maybe stay at home next time if you're sick?

10. 3 Beef Tacos Combo Dinner

Overall I was disappointed in the food and service. My water glass was never refilled and I only got another glass after asking for a refill long after my glass was empty. The beef in the tacos was so fine it was mushy and my companions both felt it was too salty. The fajita combination was a nice mixture of beef, shrimp, chicken and Mexican sausage but lacked flavor. The carnitas was the best thing on the table. Sorry to say I won't be back

Set in the center of a quiet shopping center, I HAD to post this review because I need people to know this exists. While I was expecting typical guacamole, tacos, chimichangas, and burritos, this was NOT that. The menu gives off an upscale Mexican vibe that is completely unexpected. The dining area is much larger than we realized upon entering the restaurant. We were given homemade chips with salsa and salsa verde. We started with the queso with chorizo. It arrived in a little skillet with soft tortillas for dipping. The dip was basically all cheese and chorizo. It needed to be lifted or pinched into the tortilla and was not dippable. I wasn't a huge fan of this, but this was the only thing I didn't love. I then did the roasted beets with cream cheese, avocado, pistachio, jalapeños, and fig reduction. This was out of this world with fresh ingredients and an amazing blend of flavors. For my entree I did the Pollo Poblano which was thinly sliced chicken breasts with roasted poblano peppers, cheese, crab, and a tequila cream sauce. It didn't come with any sides so I did the rice and beans. The rice was creamy and had bits of corn and herbs. It was almost like a risotto. The refried beans were black beans rather than your typical pinto beans. My bff had the veal enchiladas and said they were okay, but I didn't try them to give a full synopsis. We were too full to do dessert, but I had this chicken 4 days ago and I am still fantasizing about it. I need to go back. Definitely check this place out!

We went here the other day for the first time and it lived up to our expectations! We placed an…read moreorder online and it was ready within 10 minutes! We ordered the mini chicken burrito and the steak burrito. Both were very fresh, had great flavor and were a good size! We will be back again for another lunch or dinner!
