Steak Chimichanga with rise and beans
Dominic N.

My wife and I have been coming here ever since the first time we saw the reviews on yelp. This little mexican restaurant is phenomenal. One of the few places in south jersey with real authentic mexican food. Best of all its BYOB!!! Atmosphere: On the inside it is just a basic set up of tables and chairs, nothing fancy. They have some decorations which make it look somewhat presentable. Be prepared to watch and listen to Telemundo because that's all they have on. The waitresses are very polite but do not speak English very well unless you get the daughter who is very young but a wonderful host. Food. The food is out of this world and the portions are ridiculously huge. Any meal my wife and I have ordered we could only eat half, even when we had skipped lunch. Half the stuff on the menu I have no idea what it is. Luckily they have English translation on the bottom of each menu item. Price: You cannot beat the prices. I think the most expensive thing on the menu was $14.00 and it was some kind of Mexican steak. Most items are priced around the $9 to $12 range. That's right we get diner and lunch for the next day for only around $30 a couple. And did I mention it's BYOB. Overall: This is the best little mexican restaurant around. If your looking for something on the fancy side with spectacular service this may not be for you but if your looking for a nice little authentic mexican spot than this has to be your next stop.

I was recommended this place by a friend and I'm telling their Taco Al Pastor is soooo yummy! I only bought 3 but I wish I had an endless supply of the tacos! Will be getting more tonight!

My go to spot for burritos and chicken nachos. The flautas are delicious as well but they need to add one.

This is Los Potrillos' sit down restaurant version of their food truck on G Street also in…read morePhiladelphia. This is my first time trying Los Potrillos ever. Very cute & cozy place! I didn't know much of what to expect, but when I saw they had torta on the menu, my favorite, as well as some other favorites I knew I had to check it out. This one in particular is closer in distance to me. PARKING Parking is street parking only which can be difficult to find with the block that it's on. It's a residential area and it is quite packed. The street itself can be tight. If you're parking further away, be careful when walking around here. The drivers are wild and reckless and won't even stop at stop signs. I parked across the street and one car was driving so fast I didn't even know if he would stop at the stop sign so I could cross. He did, at the last moment, but still. SEATING I didn't sit down or take any pictures of the inside. I wanted to, but I felt like it would have been rude so I opted not to. Maybe one day I'll have a sit down meal or go order something to go in-person and take some photos. Nonetheless, it is a small place. I saw about 6-7 tables, with 4 chairs each. It's cozy. When I came in, there was only about 3 people eating inside on a Saturday afternoon, so quite dead. TAKE OUT I was able to order my food online through their website quite easily and ordered for pick up. My food was ready as soon as I walked in the door, which was a few moments after my designated pick up time. I loved being able to see their full menu online, and they do deliver but I wanted to see the place in person for myself. PRICE Overall all the prices are reasonable, but the churros are a bit much. I honestly much rather spend that money and get a 32oz (large) of horchata next time. Their horchata really tastes so good! The torta I had bought myself was HUGE; I struggled to finish it all in one sitting. Overall I had bought myself: - Carnitas Torta with no beans $12.60 - Churros (3pcs) $8.40 - Horchata (small size 16oz) $3.68 Subtotal: $24.68 + tax $1.97 + service fee $1.89 = $28.54 Funny enough, when I was checking out the service fee was never mentioned in the subtotal. But when I processed my order, and received an email confirmation I saw I was charged a service fee. It does ask for a tip before check out, which is of course optional, and I decided to leave a few bucks. But now seeing they charged an upfront service fee without mentioning it, I'm like aware now that they include their own tip. Your tip in pick up orders is definitely highly optional. But if you're sitting down to eat or getting delivery, be sure to tip! FOOD They have a very large selection of foods to choose from, as well as, beverages which is what makes me want to come back and try more. But since I haven't had a torta in so long, I went for that. The torta was HUGE, like I mentioned above, but I wouldn't say it's the best tasting torta I've ever had. I've had better. The size of the sauces are extremely small. If I knew the salsa verde was going to be that tiny, I would have asked for more. I'm not a fan of salsa roja. Especially for the size portion of the torta, I would have expected and wanted more salsa verde. The horchata was delicious as well. Probably going to be the only thing I come back to get more frequently. Especially when I'm craving horchata. It's my favorite fix on a hot summer day. The churros I had to reheat later in the day because I was too full from the torta for hours on end to eat them while they were hot. They were very greasy that the paper bag they were in was getting soaked while waiting to be devoured. They were still delicious even after reheating, and they give you a lot of chocolate syrup to go with them. I opted for some maple syrup from my own fridge instead, which I think pairs better with the churros. The churros are a little pricey, but I'm not sure if they cost that much everywhere or not. You be the judge. OVERALL This is definitely a 4-star type of restaurant especially for everything I've listed and mentioned here. I will come back and try it out one more time and see if my review still stands. But I might just walk in to order some large horchata to go every so often.

Place is immaculate. Definitely a diamond in the rough, some of the best Mexican food I've had.read more

Booths and bar seating is available as well as a patio on weekends. It is located in a sketchy area but a police car is stationed on the corner. I felt as safe as I do in other areas of Philly. We were greeted as soon s we walked in by both the bartender and one of the owners. Our server brought water as soon as we sat down. She was attentive and helpful with explanations. The food here is authentic! Several different kinds of guacamole are available. We chose the one with pomegranate. It added a nice crunch and flavor. One with grasshopper was available. lol that was a no for me! The trio of empanadas were delicious. We shared a carnitas taco platter and branzino platter. The tacos were tasty. The branzino was cooked nicely with good flavor. The rice and beans and Brussels spouts and mushrooms were all delicious. I'll definitely be back!

The meat in the tacos was so dry that it was hard to chew and swallow. Some of the pieces were cooked to a crisp. No amount of salsa could make them better. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the tacos, but trust me me I get no pleasure from leaving a bad review for this place; I am not lying or exaggerating. I thought they were going to be one of our local gems. I choked down a half a taco, gave the rest to my husband and he couldn't eat them either. The churros actually had raw batter in the middle and the outside was rubbery and hard at the same time. You could barely bite through it. I'm a cook and I know that that is about keeping the oil at an even temperature to get the inside done and not overcook the outside. Someone in the kitchen did not know what they were doing. The thing is, I have had their food before and it was pretty good. I don't know if there is a new chef or what happened, but I can't trust them after this experience.

This is a great place with authentic cuisine. We started with the chicken Empanadas which were crispy on the outside and full of delicious flavors on the inside. The chorizo was so good I got a few to take home. The ropa vieja was beef which was slow cooked to the point of falling apart and melting in your mouth with potatoes and a side of rice. Personally, I would not recommend outdoor seating here because it's right on a very busy Girard Avenue intersection and between the traffic, honking, loud music, and overall noise, it was just too much. It was also chilly outside and the heat lamps were not on. Nathan, our server, was honestly the highlight of the experience hence 3 stars not less. Very personable, funny, attentive, and made great suggestions. We ordered the corn, chorizo fries, a cheesesteak empanada, a bun, and two pitchers of margaritas prickly pear and mango. Unfortunately, the margaritas were very watery and didn't really taste like margaritas to me. The food looked good initially, but most of it lacked lasting flavor. The corn had good cheese and sauce on the first bite, but after that mostly just tasted like plain corn. The chorizo fries needed thicker fries, more cheese, and more chorizo. The cheesesteak empanada and bun were just okay, although the bun became very salty toward the end. My daughter and her girlfriend love this place, especially the Brussels sprout tacos and margaritas, so I can see why others enjoy it. For me personally, though, the flavors just didn't hit the way I expected them to, and I probably wouldn't return.

We ordered a chicken quesadilla, chicken burrito, vegan tinga tacos and shrimp tacos. With tip everything came to about $50. I really don't know if that's good or bad these days. We thought everything was just okay. The burrito tasted more like a grilled cheese sandwich with guacamole to me. I wanted more cumin or paprika or oregano. There wasn't much beyond spice on the tacos. Not that they were bad but they didn't have unique or nuanced flavors. This feels like a good spot for late night tacos maybe but it was just okay for us.
