Stopped into La Cita for lunch on a long road trip along the East Coast and was blown away by this little gem! While it's a small spot, we were able to be seated right away during Friday lunch hour. We were given chips and beans with some salsa as a free app, and then we had the esquites, which were delicious! Full of lime and rich flavor without being too weighed down by mayo. I've been wanting Mexican food for a while. They hit it out of the park! I've driven by here a few times and finally stopped in for lunch. I had 3 different tacos and couldn't have been happier. Barbacoa was on the menu and I had to try it. There is something about tacos that are so satisfying when they are made right. All the meat was cooked perfectly with those little charred bits. First, the hostess greeted me like I was her long-lost cousin finally returning from a years-long salsa sabbatical. The waitress was equally delightful, dropping knowledge about the menu like a tortilla-wrapped encyclopedia and making me laugh so hard I almost snorted my horchata. Let's talk food. The tortillas? Softer than a puppy's ear and more comforting than my abuela's hugs. Each bite was like being wrapped in a carb-cloud of happiness. The sauces (or should I say, "sauces of the gods")? They didn't just add flavor-they added personality to every dish. I'm convinced the guacamole is made with avocados harvested from the Garden of Eden. I came here for lunch with my family. The waitress was quick to assist us and the other tables that were there. There was only one server so she had her hands full with dine-in, take-out and mobile orders. This place is ideal for small and large groups. The tables are pushed together to accommodate for larger groups. Make sure to call ahead to allow for her to set up for your large group however. Because the facility is small, it can be a bit loud at times. The food came out in about 15-20 minutes. The La Cita platter is best when you don't know what to get or can't decide on an appetizer for a large group. My family ordered tacos, enchiladas, a burrito, platter, and torta--a little bit of everything from the menu! The bill came out to around $160 for 5 people. Came in on a snowy evening in the mood for some authentic Mexican food. I had heard some good things about this place from some South Jersey locals, and I decided I'd give it a try. The space is pretty small, but still cozy and cutely decorated. We were greeted by a server who gave us some menus. After quite some time, she came over to take beverage orders and service out table. I would definitely say that La Cita isn't too focused on the quick or friendly customer service category. Once she had come over, we had given her both our food and beverage orders. Our Empanada appetizer came out about 10 minutes after we ordered it. I did really enjoy this appetizer, which had Chicken Tinga as the filling of the day. It was very crispy, flaky, and fresh-tasting. It also had a decent amount of flavor to it. I also tried a Horchata beverage, which I felt was very good and authentic-tasting. After about 25 minutes from our appetizer, the food had come out. I had ordered a mixed fajita entree containing shrimp, chicken, and steak. Like most restaurant fajitas, the platter came out hot and sizzling. The meat also sat on top of a bed of peppers and onions. It was also accompanied by some corn tortillas, rice and beans, and sour cream and cheese that I had asked for. I had also ordered a side of Sweet Plantains. They came out drizzled with fresh crema and cheese. As for the taste of my entree, I felt that the fajitas were very lacking in spice and flavor. The meat quality was mediocre, and some of my steak slices had chewy and fatty pieces that I had to pull off. The rice and beans were also somewhat flavorless. I did enjoy the sweet plantains, and found them above average compared to places that I have tried. Overall, I didn't find my experience to be anything above average. Service was OK, and food was also subpar compared to other Mexican spots that I've tried. I expected a bit better for a small-owned, authentic-looking Mexican spot. read more

Loooooooved this place! What a great surprise. I've spent a lot of time in Central and South America and lots of years on the West coast where divey authentic Mexican restaurants are cheap and plentiful. La Cita isn't cheap, but dang, it's good. I love that their water is served in an empty Patron bottle. Loved the complimentary little plate of chips with refried beans and cheese with the two delightful different dipping sauces. I thoroughly enjoyed the $15 sampler plate. I'm a huge fan of queso fundido, and their version did not disappoint. I loved pretty much everything they threw onto that plate and it was really filling, even split between two people. Also shared a pork dish with my dining partner, but by then I was getting full. Enjoyed the plantains. That spicy little concoction in the little lava dish nearly killed me though - holy heat bomb! Fair warning. Everything was flavorful including the chips with salsa verde and red salsa. Pork was moist and falling apart. Plantains were crispy and sweet with fluffy rice. I'm not a big fan of beans so I left them alone. I definitely recommend splitting the La Cita sampler for two or picking as a main meal. It was fresh and tasty! This is a great neighborhood Mexican place. While it is small inside, it's cute and my wife and I eat here relatively often. When we go I can tell they do a pretty good takeout business as well. I have not had anything bad yet, the molcojete is probably my favorite although my wife says the tacos are top notch. It's a BYOB so if you're looking to booze it up this might not be your place. Driven by this place more times than I can remember but never stopped in. Finally decided to try it out. Ordered the 5 taco platter, side orders of rice and beans and a slice of the tres leches cake. The tacos were decent I ordered fish, al pastor, steak, beef tongue, and pork. Honestly with the exception of the fish they all kinda tasted the same to me some flavor, cooked fine but nothing distinguishing each one. Rice and beans were good but you can't really screw that up. I was a little disappointed because I placed an order for here through GrubHub, but when I got there, I could tell that they had not even looked at my order at all. The person working told me they had just received the order, but it was clear that they just had not checked their GrubHub account to see that the order had came in at all. Regardless, they were able to get me my meal quickly, but it was cold. Which was strange since they literally made it when I got to the restaurant. The tacos were a little small and the tortillas were not as fresh as I would have liked. Overall, though they did taste not bad. La Cita is a welcomed addition to the area! The brightly colored exterior opens to an airy indoor space. The restaurant is the size of many of the smaller BYOB's in Philadelphia and the food is amazing! Some Truly authentic Mexican mixed in with some Tex Mex favorites. As a group of 4 we were seated immediately (went early on a Saturday evening) and to start we were given some fresh tortilla chips topped with delicious refried beans and amazing sauces. (The spicy orange sauce is amazing!) As a table we ordered enchiladas, the taco sampler, and a couple burritos (again, they do have some great tex Mex options for anyone who is in the mood for that) and a plate of nachos to share. The tacos were on delicious corn tortillas, made fresh on site and the sauces that came with it we're great. I highly recommend you try out this food. Finally they are a BYOB and you can bring your own tequila and add it to the non- alcoholic margaritas they make in house. Great unique Mexican food. We are from Colorado and to be honest, I didn't know what to expect from a northeast state Mexican food, but it was so good and unique. The chips tasted homemade. I am not sure if they were, but tasted like it. The birria tacos were very tasty. My daughter had enchiladas and she thoroughly enjoyed them. We also had the nachos. Thru open table I made a reservation which ended up being a good thing as they did fill up while we were having dinner. The menu is large with lots of usual and some unusual items. The hot lava bowl being one of the unusual options. So glad we got it. It was delicious. It came out boiling hot with so many different ingredients: shrimp chicken sausage beef cactus cheese etc. With regards to the taco sampler the pork with herbs and the steak were my favorite. The chicken taco wasn't very flavorful and the pork taco with pineapple well let's just say I didn't see or taste the pineapple.
