Stumbled upon the cutest delicious brunch spot during a random walk in Montreal Quebec …read more Portions were generously massive. The ambiance was lively but still comfortable enough to have a conversation with your company without screaming or repeating. Servers were very polite and knowledgeable. My friend and i underestimated how much food we ordered and the were kind enough to move us to another table and assisted with us getting seated seamlessly without being responsible for carrying anything over. They really know how to describe what eat dish was and what to expect when ordering the specific items. During the summers they have a cutie patio where you can enjoy your coffee brunch and just enjoy the outdoor air and feel the sun it's such a nice feeling. Don't be intimidated by the french, the menu still has english on it but if you need a better description that's where the server fills in the blank. I'm definitely revisiting when i'm in town again!

Café Parvis ended up being the perfect choice for my birthday meal during a solo trip to Montreal--…read moreexactly the vibe I was hoping for. I sat at the bar and had a lovely vegetable soup, a burrata appetizer, and a glass of wine. Everything was simple, well executed, and comforting without feeling heavy. It felt intentional and relaxed -- ideal when you're dining alone but still want something special. The bartender struck the perfect balance: friendly and attentive, but not overly chatty. It made the experience feel easy and welcoming without being intrusive. If you're traveling solo or just want a great spot to enjoy a quiet, quality meal at the bar, Café Parvis is an excellent choice.

Our first day in Montreal and we were walking down the street looking for lunch. We stumbled on…read moreKYK's and liked the look of this classic pub. So in we go! There was a nicely selected set of local beers on the menu. We had a few and they were great. I won't detail them as I think the selection changes routinely. It was tough to decide what to get. I was poutine-curious but was unsure about the foie gras gravy. Andrew ordered the poutine with the duck confit. He loved it and said it was among the best poutine he has had. I went for the traditional mussels as Andrew said this is a thing to get in Montreal, they will do it well. He was right, the bowl was huge and the mussels and sauce were excellent. The only thing I would change is I like a baguette with mussels more than fries so if that is an available substitution I would be all in. I loved this place, I would go back again when I return to Montreal.

NYKS has a proper Guinness pint, which I can appreciate. I ordered the French Onion Soup and the fish and chips. Both were AMAZING. The French onion soup was good, hot, very beefy. The fish and chips had a light but crispy batter on the outside and perfectly flaky fish. Top notch. The place really cleared out by the time we were done at eight, so might recommend coming later if you don't want to wait. Overall, great place. I would definitely recommend.

We chose to be inside and were seated immediately at one of the windows without reservation for this late lunch. Our concierge recommended Vallier and she was on point with the rec. I ordered their cucumber margarita and encourage Vallier to incorporate mezcal into their offerings for an even better margarita. The tequila marg was still very good and quite refreshing. Our server, Max, was doing his best to respond to all our questions and requests. I ordered the poutine with duck confit. We split a great Caesars salad, punctuated with anchovies and grated cheese. It was fresh and very good! This was my first time having poutine and I was not disappointed. For $46 CAD, this was a great value and perhaps the best value of anything I experienced in Montreal while attending the Jazz Fest. I can well imagine this would be best during the cold of winter, because this will stick to your ribs and you will not need to eat for another eighteen hours. The components were good individually: crispy fries with fluffy interior, savory gravy, rich cheese curds, and crisp duck leg that pops with savory flavor matching the gravy. You will be challenged to eat it all in one seating. That confit remains in my culinary memory. It all comes together nicely and the ensemble of flavors and textures is very satisfying and many would find this great comfort food. At $85 CAD and change, this was a great value and leaves one with great satisfaction in a beautiful bistro. It is one of those places that delivers above its weight and will have you return. If I lived in Montreal, Vallier Bistro would be in my regular rotation. 3.8 stars!

Our waitresses recommendations were fire. We enjoyed: Complementary bread: it was soft on inside and appropriately crunchy but not overly so on the outside. Plus two huge pieces cut into 4 pieces individually. Beef tartare: at 20 cad it was a little pricy for how much you got but the taste was great and I'm a fan of comte cheese. Plus it didn't have capers which imo overwhelms tartares. Duck with carrot: as a Chinese person I've had my share of duck but this might be the best duck I've ever had in my life. The texture and cook on it was awesome! First it came with three pieces of breast. It was the perfect cook, not over like most of the places I've had duck. Then the leg had the perfect crispy fatty skin to meat ratio. Yum yum this is a can't miss dish here Burger: husband got this. I took a bite. It had a nice smoke to it and was perfectly medium rare. I was too distracted by my duck to analyze it further. Raspberry jelly for dessert: as the waitress had mentioned, it was light and a perfect sweet but tart bite. Was great! Would come here again, we had l'express earlier in this trip and place carmin blows that place out of the water.

I chose the seafood entrée, which turned out to be a mistake. After speaking with several others who ordered the same dish, it seemed that we all had a similar experience. The clams and mussels did not taste particularly fresh, and some even contained sand. I wish I had ordered the duck instead, as it appeared to be a much better choice. I ended up eating not much of my main course because of the seafood quality.

The menu had…read moreplenty of tempting options, including a Grand Marnier French toast that my mom was extremely tempted by but ultimately passed on in favor of the protein-packed meat trio breakfast--bacon, ham, and sausage. She swapped the lyonnaise potatoes for fruit (a $4 upcharge), and it was worth every penny. This wasn't your sad cantaloupe situation--we're talking dragon fruit, pineapple, grapes, blackberries, blueberries, golden berries, mango, banana, watermelon, and strawberries. The portion was so generous I ate half of it myself. Both meals came with fresh buttered sourdough toast, and we splurged on fresh-squeezed orange juice. Our server was fantastic, keeping our coffee cups perpetually full--and when he noticed how much we loved it, he sent us off with to-go cups as we left. That's service. The place was packed and buzzing--understandably so on one of Montreal's first warm weekends after winter. The patio opens onto a pedestrian area and was completely full of people soaking up the sunshine. It was a bit loud with the crowd, but that's the price of popularity. We're in town a few more days and will definitely try to come back.

I found myself at Le 9E for an impromptu breakfast. I was staying in Downtown Montreal, and since I…read morehad made plans to visit the Museum of Fine Arts later that day, I wanted to grab something to eat within walking distance. After comparing a few places, I ultimately landed on this spot - I was able to make a last-minute reservation so we headed over to check it out. Le 9E is somewhat hard to find if you don't know it exists. It sits on the 9th floor of a building in the Downtown area, with little to no signage indicating where it is. Once we got off the elevator, though, we were greeted with aesthetics. The space is large and open, with high ceilings, large windows, and a bar in the center of the room that serves as a focal point. I was a fan of the art deco decor, and the soft music playing in the background tied it all together. The breakfast menu had a good variety of items without being overwhelming. It definitely leaned more towards classic dishes with nothing too out of the ordinary. They started us with some complimentary canary melon which was sweet and juicy mmm. For my actual breakfast, I went with the pancake and a side of sausage (because protein). The pancake was much grander than I expected; it was a single cake that was topped with butter, fruit compote, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. This really exceeded my expectations - the cake was huge and super thick with the perfect amount of components; it was definitely a more cakey pancake if that makes sense. The sausage was good as well, it was stuffed with cheese which complemented the sausage meat well. Service was great, our waiter was attentive but not all over us which I appreciated. Overall, I thought Le 9E was a good find; I'm not running back though, as I would like to try other breakfast spots in the city first, but regardless you'll get a solid meal here with great aesthetics.
